  • Forget Elf on the Shelf: ‘Game of Thrones’ Fans Need ‘Lannister on the Bannister’

Call now and get Targaryen in an Aquarium absolutely free!

“Jimmy Kimmel Live” just created a new holiday tradition for families sick to death of the destructive powers — and high maintenance — of the Elf on the Shelf. Jimmy told his audience the elf was tearing his family apart. “But fortunately, there’s a new little sentry for children of all religions that’s based on a very popular series on HBO.”

Cue “Game of Thrones” star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, aka Jaime Lannister, as “Lannister on the Bannister” in his own creepy little ad.

Cheerful ad voice-over: “No one can escape the Kingslayer’s watchful eye!”
Jaime Lannister: “You steal that candy, and I’ll chop your hand off … LIKE THIS!”

The one-handed man goes on to terrorize the two children in the ad, while hitting on their mother. “Now, you remind me of my sister…”

    Check it out:
That violent, mutton-eating demon is clearly superior to any elf. And what a great deal to get a Dany aquarium at the same time, for only four monthly payments of $19.99. “A Lannister always pays his installments.”

(By the way, if you call that 1-800 number, it takes you to Santa’s Naughty or Nice hotline.)

“Game of Thrones” Season 8 is now filming, for a (probable) 2019 release on HBO.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8 Takes Every Character to New Places

It’s a whole new ballgame on “Game of Thrones.”

The eighth and final season will push all of them into new territory, as John Bradley (Sam Tarly) told TV Guide. And it will push the actors to explore new depths.

“These characters are so detailed and so rich, you can feel that you’ve got a pretty good handle on your character,” he said. “You can predict how your character will react in any given circumstance, but when you place these characters in a new environment, it’s always putting them under a microscope, and you constantly have to reexamine your character.”

He added, “Each of the characters this year is placed in a completely alien environment at some point in the season that they’ve never been placed in before. The thrill is seeing how they react to it and how they respond… This season, I think, more than any other is stretching these characters.”

Season 7 already shifted many of the characters around. Daenerys finally reached Westeros and flew north of the Wall; Jon sailed to Dragonstone and met (and bedded) the Targaryen queen; Cersei saw a White Walker firsthand; and the Stark children reunited for the first time since Season 1.

Bradley acknowledged that the final season will have even more to do to wrap up the story.

“We are kind of feeling the pressure to get it right because we want to satisfy people,” he said. “We want to give people a payoff that they’re going to be happy with.”

“Game of Thrones” Season 8 is expected to debut in 2019.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8: Sophie Turner on 2019 Premiere & Sansa’s ‘Passionate Fight’

Premiere Of HBO's 'Game Of Thrones' Season 7 - Red CarpetYou didn’t REALLY think the final season of “Game of Thrones” was coming in 2018, did you? Oh you sweet summer child…

Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) talked to Variety about filming the end, saying they started in October and are “maybe a tenth of the way through” filming. That was a joke, though, and she added that they have about six or seven months left of shooting, which keeps them on track to end in the summer of 2018 as expected.

HBO has yet to release a Season 8 premiere date, but here’s what Turner told Variety in answer to a question about her future projects:

Variety: Are you excited for next year, with “X-Men: Dark Phoenix” and season eight of “Game of Thrones” set to premiere?
Sophie Turner: Yeah, I’m really excited. “Game of Thrones” comes out in 2019. “Dark Phoenix” is in November. Then I have a couple indie movies coming out. I’m a producer on my next movie [“Girl Who Fell From the Sky”]. So I’m really excited about the future.

(Side note: Speaking of “Dark Phoenix,” the first photos of Turner and company just came out.)

There are only six more episodes left to “Game of Thrones,” but they will be intense. On that note, Variety asked Turner how Sansa Stark will handle what’s ahead without Littlefinger as her adviser:

“It’s going to be tricky for her, because at the end of last season, she felt that she had everything set up. She had her family back together. They were in control of the North again. This season, there’s a new threat, and all of a sudden she finds herself somewhat back in the deep end. And without Littlefinger, it’s a test for her of whether she can get through it. It’s a big challenge for her, without this master manipulator having her back. This season is more a passionate fight for her than a political, manipulative kind of fight.”

Variety asked if that’s because she “faces less a political threat and more an existential, zombie sort of threat?” but Turner wouldn’t say. She can’t tell us everything.

The six episodes ahead will surely be filled with White Walker threats, since Season 7 ended with the destruction of The Wall, and Winterfell is the first stop on the way down through the Seven Kingdoms.

The Lady of Winterfell is going to be tested, for sure. She has to protect her people in the North and her homeland. But if her fight is more passionate than political, that suggests that she’s not dragged into whatever machinations Cersei Lannister has planned next. Maybe that will be left to Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow.

“Game of Thrones” Season 8 will premiere in 2019. Not “officially” from HBO, but just get used to seeing it that way so it hurts less each time.

  • Stephen Dillane Slams Own ‘Game of Thrones’ Performance: ‘I Didn’t Know What I Was Doing’

It’s weird how many “Game of Thrones” stars don’t seem to *get* “Game of Thrones.”

Remember Ian McShane and his dismissal that “it’s only tits and dragons”? Stephen Dillane (Stannis Baratheon) didn’t use the same words, but he too seems to have missed the fandom boat when it comes to George R.R. Martin’s novels and the hugely popular HBO series.

At least Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth) is a true fan, and he tried to help Dillane understand the GoT plot. But it wasn’t enough, at least for Dillane, who does not look back fondly on his own performance.

Here’s what the Stannis actor told The Times of the U.K. of his time on “Game of Thrones”:

“I’ve flicked it on [since leaving] to see if I could figure out what was going on, but I couldn’t. Liam Cunningham is so passionate about the show. He invests in it in a way I think is quite moving, but it wasn’t my experience. I was entirely dependent on Liam to tell me what the scenes were about — I didn’t know what I was doing until we’d finished filming and it was too late. The damage had been done. I thought no one would believe in me and I was rather disheartened by the end. I felt I’d built the castle on non-existent foundations.”

Well, that’s sad to hear. Dillane didn’t immediately come across as the Stannis of GRRM’s novels, but he grew into the role. He even added some shades of grey to Stannis’ black-and-white philosophy when it looked, briefly, like he might be a good dad to his daughter Shireen after all. That did not last.

The Tony-winning star (fun fact, he’s the father of Frank Dillane of “Fear the Walking Dead”) told the Times one good thing about his time on “Game of Thrones” is that the money holds him over while he looks for the stuff he really wants to do.

“I’ve adapted a couple of things and started putting one out there to see if anyone’s interested, but it’s a very strange, uncommercial screenplay. I can only work with what attracts me, and unfortunately that’s often not what attracts anybody else. ‘Game of Thrones’ pays for all this looking around and waiting.”

This is not the first time Dillane has shared these sentiments.

In 2016, he told the French magazine Liberation (via Newsweek) of GoT, “I did not understand the series, or its success while I was in it. The experience was very bizarre, it slipped through my fingers. For me to like a role I need to be able to be interested in it, which was really not the case. I was a bit overwhelmed by the events.” He also told Radio Times, “Money is the main thing I got out of it.”

He may feel like he didn’t know what he was doing as Stannis, but that kind of brutal honesty is actually very Stannis. He did his duty.

“Game of Thrones” Season 8, the final season, is now filming.

Netflix was a big winner, too, with its supernatural drama “Stranger Things” landing at No. 2 overall and other originals like “13 Reasons Why,” “Orange Is the New Black,” and “House of Cards” dominating the streaming-only list.

In the movie category, the superhero blockbuster “Wonder Woman” lassoed the honors. “La La Land” took second place, possibly after the mix-up that briefly awarded it the Oscar for Best Film (which was actually won by “Moonlight”).

  • Jason Momoa Says ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8 Will be ‘Greatest Thing Ever Aired on TV’

Premiere Of Warner Bros. Pictures' 'Justice League' - ArrivalsIt’s going to be a while before fans get to see the final six episodes of HBO series “Game of Thrones,” but one former star is promising that season eight will be worth the agonizing wait.

Jason Momoa, who played Dothraki king Drogo on season one of the hit fantasy show, chatted with Entertainment Weekly about a recent visit he paid to the “Thrones” set in Belfast, Ireland, where he was catching up with his pals in the cast and crew. According to the actor, his visit inadvertently revealed some spoilers about how the series wraps, and though he’s disappointed he won’t be surprised by certain developments, he teased that audiences should be thrilled by what’s ahead.

“Just knowing how amazing this season is going to be — it’s going to be the greatest thing that’s ever aired on TV,” Momoa told EW. “It’s going to be unbelievable. It’s going to f— up a lot of people.”

The actor also addressed the rumors that pop up seemingly every time he appears in an Instagram photo with his pal and former love interest, Emilia Clarke, suggesting he’s somehow set to reprise his role as Drogo. That’s not in the cards, according to Momoa.

“I just showed up to see [producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss] and I just happened to see people on set,” the actor told EW. “I haven’t been over there in a long time. You just want to see your friends and you end up make headlines going, ‘Drogo’s back!’ and I’m like, ‘He’s dead! He can’t come back, it wouldn’t work.’”

This could very well be some elaborate misdirection (see: the unsurprising Jon Snow surprise revival) on Momoa’s part, though with the recent Jon-Dany romance development, it would certainly be an awkward time for Drogo to return. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

There’s no premiere date yet for “Game of Thrones” season eight, though it’s likely to debut sometime in 2019. Stay tuned.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Star Liam Cunningham Calls Out HBO for Being Late With Season 8 Scripts

Premiere Of HBO's 'Game Of Thrones' Season 7 - ArrivalsSer Davos isn’t afraid to call people out, and neither is Liam Cunningham, the actor who plays him.

The “Game of Thrones” star recently filmed a video for Rolling Stone in which he responded to fan theories, and while he was at it, he told viewers that “the bastards at HBO” didn’t send him the Season 8 scripts on time.

“At this moment, the bastards at HBO have not sent me the scripts for the final season,” Cunningham said. “They promised me the scripts earlier this week, but they haven’t sent them.”

We don’t know whether Cunningham has since received them, but either way, that comment set the tone for the rest of the video. In it, the actor wasn’t shy about sharing strong opinions, including his belief that Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) should be seen as a serial killer rather than a role model for young girls.

“A lot of young ladies are using her as a role model,” he said. “In five, 10 years time, let’s not examine where that may go.”

    Watch more below.

“Game of Thrones” Season 8 is expected to premiere in 2019.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Earns First Grammy Nomination

“Game of Thrones” is one step closer to an EGOT.

But seriously, the HBO drama hit a new milestone today when it received its first-ever Grammy nomination for composer Ramin Djawadi’s work in Season 7.

Djawadi — who previously received a Grammy nomination for his “Iron Man” score — will face off against Jóhann Jóhannsson for “Arrival,” Hans Zimmer for “Dunkirk,” Justin Hurwitz for “La La Land,” and Benjamin Wallfisch, Pharrell Williams, and Hans Zimmer for “Hidden Figures.”

The Season 7 finale featured a brand-new theme, “Truth,” that played over scenes between Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow, as well as the revelatory wedding of his true parents, Lyanna Stark and Prince Rhaegar Targaryen.

“It’s supposed to be its own thing,” Djawadi told Entertainment Weekly. “The trick with this theme is that it really had to be a love theme but when we played it in earlier episodes, you don’t want to give away the love too soon. So it had to be a theme that could be a little bit mysterious, a little moody, and you could play it darker at times. I know everybody was expecting [them to get together] but we really had to be able to do this slowly. That was the most important thing for me.”

Interestingly, Djawadi’s “Game of Thrones” music has only been Emmy-nominated once, for the Season 4 episode “The Mountain and the Viper.” He has, however, earned Emmy nods for “Westworld,” “Prison Break,” and “FlashForward.”

How he did not get one for the “GOT” Season 6 finale composition “Light of the Seven,” we don’t understand:

  • HBO Finally Found the Alleged ‘Game of Thrones’ Hacker, But Can’t Arrest Him (Shame!)

They may need to send in Arya Stark to finish this job.

You must remember HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” Now someone has been charged for the crimes, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York’s office announced. However, they don’t actually have him in custody yet.

Behzad Mesri has been charged with wire fraud, computer fraud, aggravated identity theft, and interstate transmission of an extortionate communication. The hacker claimed he had 1.5 terrabytes of information, and tried to extort HBO for $6 million in bitcoin. HBO did not pay.

Acting United States attorney Joon H. Kim said Mesri, who used the online name Skote Vahshat, “conducted his attack on HBO in a methodical way.” Mesri is accused of leaking internal HBO emails, documents, financial information, GoT scripts, and episodes of “Ballers,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and more. Kim said Mesri also had a history of hacking on behalf of the Iranian military.

Here’s the snag: Mesri is in Iran. He’s on the FBI’s Most Wanted list, and his name and photo are now out there…

… but they technically haven’t caught him yet. There can’t be a trial (by combat?) until he’s arrested.

“We are unfortunately unable to arrest him today,” Kim told reporters, adding, “He will never be able to travel outside of Iran without fear that he will be arrested on these charges.” He was indicted, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. If convicted, Variety reports, Mesri faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for wire fraud; up to five years for each of the four charges related to computer fraud; a two-year mandatory sentence for aggravated identity theft; and up to two years in prison for the extortion charge.

Chances are, he’s not going to leave Iran. But at least HBO can have some amount of closure.

  • Emilia Clarke Defends ‘Game of Thrones’ Nudity: ‘People F—- For Pleasure’

68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - Arrivals“Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke is fed up with the outrage over nudity in the hit HBO drama.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the actress said, “There are so many shows centered around this very true fact that people reproduce. People f— for pleasure — it’s part of life.”

From the start, the show has been criticized by some for including so many nude scenes. Clarke herself has been part of a few iconic ones, including when Daenerys rose from the ashes with her three baby dragons in Season 1 and when she emerged from the fiery Dothraki khal tent in Season 6.

And of course, there was the “boat sex” scene between Daenerys and Kit Harington’s Jon Snow in the Season 7 finale.

“I’m starting to get really annoyed about this stuff now because people say, ‘Oh, yeah, all the porn sites went down when Game of Thrones came back on.’ I’m like, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale?’ I fucking love that show, and I cried when it ended because I couldn’t handle not seeing it. That is all sex and nudity,” she said.

Clarke has defended the show’s use of nudity before, telling Elle in July, “I get a lot of crap for having done nudes scenes and sex scenes. That, in itself, is so antifeminist. Women hating on other women is just the problem.”
