  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Fans Have a Predictable Reaction to Season 8’s 2019 Premiere Date

HBO is not casting its light upon us: The network has confirmed that “Game of Thrones” Season 8 isn’t due out until 2019.

You can imagine how well the series’ die-hard fans took that news — about as well as a flaming arrow to the chest. Since the announcement earlier Thursday, there has been a lot of venting on Twitter. Fans feelings toward HBO right now are awfully similar to those of King’s Landings residents toward Cersei Lannister during her walk of shame.

Fine, that might be a little extreme, but you get the point: People are sad, disappointed, and angry, and they’re using GIFs and memes to show it. Below are some of the best reactions to the long gap between seasons.

As bad as “Game of Thrones” fans think we have it, we have to remember that it could always be worse. Readers waiting for George R. R. Martin’s upcoming book “The Winds of Winter” have been doing so for years and they still don’t know when they’ll be able to get their hands on a copy.

Of course, that’s no consolation for fans of both the TV and book series…

We’re definitely in for a long wait, but at least we expect it will be worth it.

  • HBO Confirms ‘Game of Thrones’ to Return in 2019

After months of speculation about when the final season of “Game of Thrones” will premiere, we finally have an official (if still pretty vague) answer: HBO confirmed on Thursday that the hit fantasy series will return sometime in 2019.

That’s in keeping with what the cast and crew alluded to in recent interviews, acknowledging that a delayed production schedule (thanks in part to Kit Harington and Rose Leslie’s upcoming nuptials) necessitated pushing the premiere date back. Now, the premium cable outlet has made that assumption official, though of course, we still don’t have a concrete premiere date (or even a rough timeline, like earlier or later in the year).

What we do know, however, is that the final six episodes of the series — all directed by veterans of the show — will be more than worth the wait. Even former stars of the series are raving about the amazing conclusion, which provoked the cast to weep and give a standing ovation at a recent table read. We have a feeling that fans will have a similar reaction once the show wraps.

Now, we just have to wait for 2019 to hurry up and get here already. Keep watch here for more information about season eight of “Game of Thrones” as it becomes available.

  • 10 ‘Game of Thrones’ Characters Just Got Their Own Postage Stamps

A Girl does not always wish to send a raven.

Arya Stark and the direwolves now have their own stamps, along with the Night King, White Walkers, dragons, giants, and several “Game of Thrones” human characters.

The snag, though, is that they’re through The Royal Mail of the U.K. So the U.S. Postal Service — and other countries — don’t have them at this point. Still, they’re worth collecting, if you can get them. And if you can’t mail them, all the more reason to just keep them.

Here’s the announcement on the Royal Mail site:

“The Game of Thrones Stamp Collection is coming.

We’re celebrating Game of Thrones in an epic, new stamp collection. Ten stamps feature characters from houses Stark, Targaryen, Lannister and Tyrell. And five more stamps on a Stamp Sheet feature characters such as The Night King and White Walkers, plus the coveted Iron Throne itself.

Like the show, they’re going to be popular. Some gifts and collectibles are limited to a run of 1,500 so pre‐order before 23 January.”

As you can see, the 10 characters to earn their own stamps are Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), Jon Snow (Kit Harrington), Ned Stark (Sean Bean), Olenna Tyrell (Diana Rigg), Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance), Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).

In addition, there are stamps for five non-human characters.

(Maybe someday they’ll add Joffrey, Robb, Catelyn, Bran, Brienne, Ygritte, Theon, Sam, Littlefinger, Davos, Margaery, Tormund, Missandei, Jorah, The Wall…)

There are special “presentation packs” available, too, featuring HBO’s map of Westeros and illustrations.

“Game of Thrones” is now filming Season 8, the final season, and those six episodes will officially premiere on HBO in 2019.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Star Maisie Williams and Boyfriend Got the Best Trivial Pursuit Question

Q Awards 2017Trivial Pursuit almost started another “Game of Thrones” war of sorts.

Actress Maisie Williams was playing the game with her boyfriend, Ollie Jackson, when he ended up with a hilariously perfect question: “In ‘Game of Thrones,’ what is the name of the tomboy daughter of Ned and Catelyn Stark?” That upped the stakes for him, because not knowing the answer would mean that he’d missed some of the most basic information about his girlfriend’s TV character.

“He’d better get this one right,” Williams wrote on Instagram, adding a sword emoji.

He’d better get this one right ???? #trivialpursuit

A post shared by Maisie Williams (@maisie_williams) on

Let’s hope he did know the right answer. That is too crucial a crucial detail about her job for him to miss unless he wasn’t even paying attention. They met in school and had been dating for “over a year” when she spoke with InStyle in April 2016, so that’s long enough that he should be an expert on all things Arya Stark by now. When it comes to something like this, he can’t be Jon Snow and know nothing.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Star Rory McCann Hasn’t Watched the Entire Show: ‘I’m Way Lost’

It turns out it is possible to watch only part of “Game of Thrones” without getting hooked — and one of the show’s stars, of all people, is proof.

Rory McCann has starred in the acclaimed HBO series as Sandor Clegane (aka the Hound) since Season 1, with the exception of Season 5, but he still hasn’t felt compelled to watch the show all the way through yet. He recently revealed to SFX magazine (via its sister publication GamesRadar+) that he’s “way lost” — to the point that he has met fellow “Game of Thrones” stars without realizing they appeared in the same show.

“I haven’t actually watched all of it,” he said. “I’m way lost! I’ve met actors in ‘Game of Thrones’ and have no idea who they are, and apparently they’ve been there for years.”

It’s hard for us to fathom only watching some of the series, but at least McCann said that he intends to get through it all eventually and just hasn’t “got round to it” yet. That said, we found it ironic that his co-star Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth) told SFX that “there’s not a person on the show that isn’t a fan of the show.” McCann’s level of fandom seems pretty weak, but it’s hard to complain given how much his character has added over the years.

The actor also reminded us that we can’t trust the show’s cast members to be honest when they talk about what lies ahead in Season 8. McCann shared how he had to hide the fact that the Hound wasn’t dead when he looked likely to be at the end of Season 4.

“I had to do a couple of Comic-Cons where I was out of the show, and I was just lying, lying, lying,” he said.

It’s still hard to believe that he’s not lying about having not caught up on all the episodes, but at least his character is still alive. Once Season 8 wraps up the series, he’ll have plenty of time to watch “Game of Thrones” and relive its glory days.

The final season is expected to premiere in 2019.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Star Talks ‘Very Satisfying’ Season 8: ‘We’re Going out With a Bang’

When “Game of Thrones” Season 8 finally premieres, Ben Crompton thinks we are going to like what we see.

The cast still hasn’t finished shooting the hit HBO drama’s final season, but Crompton, who plays Night’s Watch steward Edd, spoke to Metro and shared that he thinks it will be “very satisfying.” He acknowledged that, no matter what, there are bound to be fans with their own opinions about how the show should have ended, but he expects most to enjoy it.

“I’d be surprised if people are disappointed because there’s a lot of effort and love gone into this, and I think it’s very satisfying,” he said.

Crompton spoke more on that hard work, highlighting how long they’re spending on Season 8 in spite of the fact that the chapter will be shorter than all of its predecessors.

“Even though there’s only six episodes, there’s a lot to shoot because it’s the last one,” he said. “We’re going out with a bang.”

Unfortunately, Compton didn’t say how much of him we’ll see in Season 8 or what lies ahead for Edd. His role wasn’t huge in Season 7, but the actor feels fortunate to have made it so deep into the series. As Crompton pointed out, “Game of Thrones” is a series “where characters get killed off so regularly”; just surviving from Season 2 through Season 7, as Edd did, is quite a feat.

We’ll see the remaining characters continue to battle for power and try to survive White Walkers when “Game of Thrones” Season 8 premieres, likely in 2019.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Star Calls Jon and Dany Situation ‘Very, Very Dangerous’

We could use a Three-Eyed Raven right about now to answer our burning “Game of Thrones” questions, and luckily for us, Isaac Hempstead Wright is again playing that role. The actor recently spoke to CinemaBlend about where Season 7 left us, including the awkward situation involving Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).

Spoilers ahead if you haven’t watched “Game of Thrones” Season 7.

The finale left us with a big revelation courtesy of Bran Stark (Hempstead Wright) and Samwell Tarly (John Bradley). With their combined insight, they realized that Jon and Daenerys — who were in the midst of consummating their relationship — are related. The information changed the game, surprising even Bran, who has been mostly unflappable since becoming the Three-Eyed Raven. Hempstead Wright discussed his character’s reaction, namely the fact that he thinks “this is going to be very, very dangerous.”

While some fans were extremely put off by the incest factor, Hempstead Wright says that won’t be Bran’s biggest concern.

“What will bother Bran more is the fact that it could end up being a very, very tricky situation with this new queen and the person who’s actually the king and they’re in love,” he said.

Bran actually took the information well considering that the last time he uncovered an incestuous couple it led to a near-death experience. Hopefully, things will turn out better for everyone involved this time.

“Game of Thrones” Season 8 is expected to premiere in 2019.

  • Emilia Clarke Warns Fans About ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8 Leaks

68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - Press RoomIt’s not just Jon Snow who knows nothing this time. The reports of multiple endings for “Game of Thrones” Season 8 appear to be true.

The final season is now filming, and there’s “a very strict social-media ban this year” for the cast. So we probably won’t get more adorable behind-the-scenes photos from Emilia Clarke in her final season as Daenerys Targaryen.

Emilia recently chatted with the Telegraph of the U.K. about her career, and the paper mentioned how — last season — her Instagram was filled with photos and videos goofing around on set with Kit Harington. No more.

Here’s part of the Telegraph‘s report:

“We have a very strict social-media ban this year because people need to stop spoiling it for everyone,’ she says, pouting slightly. ‘It’s really frustrating.’ Even Emilia doesn’t know what’s planned for her character (the TV series has now gone past the point George RR Martin’s books have reached).

‘They’ve written a number of different endings,’ she says. ‘So none of the cast know what the actual ending is. If there’s ever a leak of any kind, don’t believe it because it’s probably not true.’”

HBO Programming President Casey Bloys previously said the showrunners were “going to shoot multiple versions so that nobody really knows what happens.”

That sounds expensive, just to try to avoid spoiler leaks that are probably inevitable. (And that’s not even accounting for hackers, or HBO’s own contractors, leaking entire episodes online.) Then again, they can always pop the “alternate endings” onto the final season Blu-ray and make it even more of a must-buy.

But Emilia said they wrote a number of different endings, which makes sense. That keeps the cast/crew in the dark and prevents a spoiled ending if the scripts get leaked. Will they film all of the different endings? And by “endings,” do they mean the exact final scene, or a final climactic ending scenario?

Season 8 will film through the summer of 2018, which is why most fans expect Season 8 to premiere in 2019 instead of 2018. But HBO has not released a premiere date. And we shouldn’t expect many teases, it seems, from the cast or maybe even the show itself.

Spoiler fan sites like Watchers on the Wall are still staking out the Belfast set to get hints, but they were not the ones to spoil Season 7. That entire season was spoiled in a rundown several months in advance — before filming was even done — by someone on the inside. And then HBO had that business with a hacker. So, in fitting “Game of Thrones” fashion, it’s their own allies they really have to be wary of, not the fans.

  • The ‘Game of Thrones’ Cast Was ‘Applauding and Crying’ After Season 8 Table Read

As “Game of Thrones” fans prepare to say goodbye to the hit HBO fantasy series, its cast is finding it difficult to let go, too. (Well, some more than others, anyway.) And that was especially true after the emotional table read of the final batch of episodes, according to one of the show’s stars.

Sophie Turner, who’s played Sansa Stark on the Emmy-winning drama since the beginning, spilled the beans about the ensemble coming together to read through the season eight scripts, revealing in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that the event was an emotional rollercoaster. Rather than read one episode at a time, Turner said, the cast decided to plow through all six episodes of the final season in one long, marathon session.

“We closed the blinds and shut ourselves off from the rest of the world and had six hours in this room just reading it through and crying and laughing,” the actress told EW.

    The verdict?

” … [A]t the end of it, we were all on our feet, applauding and crying,” Turner said. “We had everyone there, everyone who’s had any part in this. It was amazing.”

It certainly sounds like an amazing experience, though the actress admitted that putting themselves through the emotional wringer so early before production even starts has its pitfalls.

“We had our emotional bit and then we thought, ‘Well now we’ve got eight months. We’ve still got a while to get through!’”

At least that gives viewers plenty of time to prepare themselves for end. And stock up on tissues.

“Game of Thrones” season eight is expected to debut sometime in 2019.

  • Amazon Tells UK ‘Game of Thrones’ Fan That the Night King Delayed Their Blu-Ray Delivery

The Night King is responsible for all kinds of problems, not least of which apparently include the delay of “Game of Thrones” Blu-ray deliveries.

A U.K.-based fan known on Reddit as Daft_Dragon was entertained by Amazon and posted about it on Monday. The “Game of Thrones” aficionado shared an email that came from Amazon as an update on a Season 7 Blu-ray order. The message informed the customer that the package would arrive “one or two days later than expected” for an interesting reason: “adverse weather conditions caused by the arrival of the Night King.”

[NO SPOILERS] It seems Amazon UK have a sense of humour when it comes to delivering Season 7 in the snowy conditions right now from gameofthrones

Daft_Dragon seemed to take the delay in stride, and instead of complaining, wrote that “it seems Amazon UK have a sense of humour about delivering Season 7 in the snowy conditions.” We like that attitude. When winter comes, you just have to be glad to avoid White Walkers.

We reached out to Amazon UK and got confirmation that the email was a “genuine Amazon email.” Alas, the message we got was not “Game of Thrones”-themed, too.

This post has been updated with Amazon’s confirmation.
