  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Stars Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington to Compete for Lead Acting Emmys

Season seven of “Game of Thrones” featured some pretty heavy lifting from stars Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) and Kit Harington (Jon Snow) as their respective characters came together for the first time. So naturally, the pair is trying for another first this year.

According to Gold Derby, both Clarke and Harington will submit themselves for consideration in the lead drama acting categories at this year’s Emmys. Previously, the actors had been up for the supporting categories, with Clarke nabbing three supporting actress noms (in 2013, 2015, and 2016) and Harington earning one supporting actor nod (in 2016).

As Entertainment Weekly notes, this move makes sense for the duo, whose dramatic overlapping storylines dominated this past year of “Thrones.” While the majority of the show’s cast members have sought supporting actor nominations in the past, the rapidly shrinking population of Westeros means that more characters have gotten a significant bump in screen time recently, allowing for some more wiggle room when it comes to Emmy categorization.

Gold Derby also has the scoop about the other “GOT” actors that HBO will be submitting for Emmy consideration, and in which categories they’re seeking nods. They are: Lena Headey, Sophie Turner, and Maisie Williams (supporting actress); Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Peter Dinklage (supporting actor); and Diana Rigg (drama guest actress). More names could be added to that list in coming weeks, the site says.

Nominations for the 2018 Emmys are set to be announced on July 12.

  • Watch Emilia Clarke’s Hilarious ‘Game of Thrones’ Set Tour (With ‘Boring’ Kit Cameo)

Win a chance to visit the “Game of Thrones” set, for a good cause!

The Mother of Dragons is also The Mother of Tour Guides. “Game of Thrones” queen Emilia Clarke is effortlessly charming and funny in this Omaze video offering a tour of the Belfast, Northern Ireland set. It’s not exactly a detailed set tour, since she’s forced out of every room, and she can’t even read out the final script to us without being bleeped.

The whole point is to get fans to donate to her Omaze campaign to support the Royal College of Nursing. If you donate, you and a friend/whoever get a chance to visit the set and *really* go behind-the-scenes. You also get to have lunch with Daenerys Targaryen herself.

    Watch the video, it’s perfection:
She’s so darn cute. And, for the record, Kit Harington and his six-pack abs aren’t the least bit “boring” to us.

“Game of Thrones” Season 8 only has six episodes, but the show is continuing to film until at least June. The final season airs on HBO in 2019.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Star Maisie Williams Celebrates Show’s 7th Birthday: ‘A Girl Is Well Excited’

“Game of Thrones” star Maisie Williams celebrated a special holiday on April 17. No, not Tax Day but something much better: the hit HBO show’s seventh birthday.

On April 17, 2011, the now-iconic series aired its first episode. Williams was just 14 at the time and has grown up with the show, so it’s not surprising that she was thrilled to mark its latest milestone. She posted a message on Twitter and included a funny nod to her character.

“A girl is well excited to celebrate the 7th birthday of ,” she wrote, in part.

She also encouraged her followers and fans of the show to join her in honoring the series, and they soon delivered. Many began posting their favorite moments with the hashtag she’d directed them to use, #7Years7Kingdoms. The answers were varied, but not surprisingly, her character, Arya, got a lot of love. A girl is a badass, after all.

Meanwhile, the official “Game of Thrones” Twitter account got in the game, too, inviting fans to join in the celebration of the show’s “7th Nameday.”

Oh, how quickly the time has gone. At this time next year, “Game of Thrones” may very well be kicking off its eighth and final season. The show is slated to return in 2019.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Producers Thank Cast & Crew After Epic 55-Night Battle Shoot

The Looooong Night will be dark and full of terrors.

“Game of Thrones” Season 8 has been filming for ages (OK, since October 2017) and will continue into summer. There are only six episodes, and at least one will be captured in an epic battle.

GoT always has “epic” battles, but this one is “something that’s never been done before.” It was so special, the producers shared a special thank you for the cast and crew. That was shared online (then deleted) by assistant director Jonathan Quinlan.

    Here it is:

Quinlan had shared this caption with his post:

“Says it all. 55 consecutive nights. 11 weeks. 3 locations. You’ll never again see anything like it.”

There’s a social media blackout for Season 8 (or Season VIII, as they put it, “Star Wars” style). So it’s surprising to have seen that producer note at all.

Maisie Williams had previewed 12 weeks of night shoots, suggesting Arya Stark has a role in what’s ahead. Everyone we know probably has some kind of role, since the White Walkers will be heading south.

Watchers on the Wall has ***MINOR SPOILERS*** about this battle, and what else is ahead:

These two and a half months of shooting more than double the previous record for a Game of Thrones battle shoot—which likely already was a TV record, as well. Unless the upcoming King’s Landing shoot dethrones it, which seems unlikely, this battle of Winterfell will be the biggest, most expensive action scene we’ve ever seen on TV. Of course, shooting time doesn’t necessarily translate to screen time, so this may or may not be the longest battle in the show, but it will certainly be the most elaborate.

Cannot wait to see the first photos and video clips from this episode. But, really, we’ll settle for any clips at all.

Head to WotW for more spoilery details on the locations of this battle.

“Game of Thrones” Season 8 will premiere on HBO in 2019.

  • Joe Dempsie Hints to Larger Role for Gendry in Final ‘Game of Thrones’ Season

From rowing to running — we can’t wait to see what’s next for Gendry.

“Game of Thrones” Season 8. There are only six episodes to the final season, and Dempsie’s Gendry just returned last season after a loooooong time spent rowing.

But not only is Gendry back, Dempsie told Digital Spy he’s been doing “a fair bit” of filming for the final season:

“I’ve done well out of it this year, for sure. As with all these things, we never shoot in chronological order – so you might have people coming in at the beginning and at the end, but it doesn’t necessarily mean they make it all the way through. […]

Not even necessarily just from a character point-of-view, [but] from a personal point of view – to be stood there on the set when they’re making that ending… that end game. So yeah, I’m very happy to be involved and be on set for Season 8.”

Dempsie said he never took for granted that he’d be returning in Season 7 (never mind Season 8) even though that was always the showrunners’ plan. He said he’s glad to no longer be asked (daily, constantly) when Gendry will return to the show:

“However, there’s a whole raft of new secrets that I now have to keep, so it never really lets up, the pressure to keep your mouth shut when it comes to anything to do with ‘Game of Thrones.’”

We’re hoping one secret he’s keeping is a reunion between Gendry and Arya Stark. We’ll find out when “Game of Thrones” Season 8 premieres in 2019 on HBO.

  • Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Teases a New Look for Jaime in ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8

From “Game of Thrones” Season 8, it’s clear beards are very much in. (Are mustaches out?)

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is currently filming “Game of Thrones” Season 8 for its 2019 premiere on HBO. During a recent talk with ShortList, he answered questions on Jaime’s hair transformations through the series, and his current set-up.

Here’s that part of the ShortList Q&A:

You’re the face – literally – of L’Oréal’s new campaign. What’s the beard situ at the moment? Long, short, non-existent?

I’m shooting the last season of Thrones. Generally speaking, I’m not crazy-hairy, but I have a full beard. Call me Hairy Styles.

Fans are split on whether they liked your character, Jaime Lannister, with long or short hair. What’s your verdict?

He was due a haircut. Especially after spending two seasons dragged through the mud. There was a big change in the character, so a haircut is a way to signal that.

It’s true that Jaime has run the hair gamut from Seasons 1-8, including some very rough looks for the handsomest man in the Seven Kingdoms.

Coster-Waldau confirmed that he did not wear a wig, that was all his own hair every time. Based on his new comments — and the photo at top, of three GoT stars at a Golden Globes after-party in January — it sounds like Jaime will be much hairier in Season 8 than Season 7.

There are only six episodes ahead in the final season, and Jaime’s beard will probably not be the biggest change we can expect. Season 8 will film until June, and we’re on standby for some kind of first teaser or official set photo.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Star Iain Glen Predicts Mixed Response to Series Finale

As “brilliant” as “Game of Thrones” star Iain Glen finds the show’s conclusion, he doesn’t expect the series finale to be universally loved.

The hit HBO show is headed into its eighth and final season, and fans have high hopes for the finale. As the actor who portrays Ser Jorah Mormont, Glen already knows how it will conclude. He recently told The Indian Express that he considers the ending “brilliant” and satisfying.

“When I read it, I thought it was rather brilliant,” he said. “I am a bit of a fan of the series as well, and it satiated my expectation and hopes.”

Yet, as much as he liked it, the actor acknowledged that he doesn’t expect everyone to share his reaction. With a show as big and beloved as “Game of Thrones,” Glen says that “you cannot please everyone.”

It’s a fair point. Glen’s co-star Ben Crompton expressed similar sentiments in late December, telling Metro that everyone would have their own opinions. That said, Crompton also told the publication that he would be “surprised if people are disappointed.”

However the show ends, there is guaranteed to be a lot of action and excitement ahead. Glen teased surprises as well, so we’re preparing ourselves already for an intense and exhilarating season.

“Game of Thrones” Season 8 will premiere in 2019.

  • HBO Exec Hints at Everyone’s Deaths in ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8

“When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground,” Cersei Lannister once said. And it seems her words will prove prophetic.

The eighth and final season of “Game of Thrones” was always likely to feature some deaths of beloved characters. But at the INTV Conference in Israel, HBO SVP of drama Francesca Orsi teased many, many the deaths.

“It was a really powerful moment in our lives and our careers,” she said of the table read for the last six episodes.

“None of the cast had received the scripts prior, and one by one they started falling down to their deaths.”

At the conclusion of the table read, the cast and crew applauded for a 15-minute standing ovation, Orsi said.

“It was amazing. By the very end, everyone looked down and looked up and tears were in their eyes.”

“Game of Thrones” Season 8 is likely to premiere sometime in 2019.

  • Lena Headey: ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8 Ends Filming in June

Now hit the chalkboard and solve the equation of when we’ll get the first trailer.

The final season of “Game of Thrones” only has six episodes but it’s taking forever to film. They started production in October and we knew they’d continue into the summer. There were rumors that they might go on through August, but that wasn’t confirmed.

Actress Lena Headey (Queen Cersei Lannister) just got more specific during an interview with the Press Association (via the Independent):

“We’re filming till the end of June and it’s all very exciting and very large.”

Still on the size note, she said the final season would be “bigger and better than ever.”

Headey said all that at the premiere of her husband Dan Cadan’s new film “Walk Like a Panther.” There’s really not much the stars can say, even though they are constantly asked, “What can you tell us about the final season of ‘Game of Thrones’?” So that’s why they have to stick with the go-to “big” and “exciting” comments.

The “end of June” bit is new, though, and gives a timeline of when the footage will be in for the 2019 premiere. Maisie Williams just talked about the show doing 12 weeks of night shoots, among the other major footage they’ve been putting together. The early seasons premiered in April, so we already had a trailer by now and were ready to watch the episodes.

It’s hard to say when we’ll get the first footage from Season 8, but hopefully something “official” will be shared in the next couple of months — perhaps tied to the premiere of “Westworld” Season 2 on April 22?

  • Rose Leslie Doesn’t Want Kit Harington to Spoil ‘Game of Thrones’ For Her

As Game of Thrones” star Rose Leslie should have some pretty excellent access to spoilers for the show’s upcoming eighth and final season. But as the actress explained in a recent interview, she doesn’t want to know anything about what’s to come on the hit fantasy series — and has a system in place to make sure Harington doesn’t spill any beans.

While chatting with Entertainment Weekly, Leslie admitted that it’s hard to be around Harington when he’s reading “Thrones” scripts at home, because even the slightest change in his facial expression could tip off the actress about a plot point.

“I for sure ask Kit not to show me his excitement after he has read an episode, simply because I don’t want to read anything in his eyes,” the actress told EW. ” … So when he’s at the other end of the room and reading the episode, it’s like, no … we are not going to have eye contact for a long time. Go make a cup of tea. Calm down.”

It’s probably best that Leslie doesn’t know anything, both so she can be surprised along with other fans (unlike fellow former “Thrones” star Jason Momoa), but also so she doesn’t have to bear the burden of keeping spoilers under wraps herself.

“I know the anticipation is killing a lot of people, and my God the build-up is fantastic,” Leslie told EW. “I can’t wait until next year.”

Neither can we. The final season of “Game of Thrones” is set to premiere sometime in 2019.
