  • Sophie Turner & Joe Jonas Are Engaged, and Fans Are Freaking Out

Premiere Of HBO's 'Game Of Thrones' Season 7 - Red CarpetAnother “Game of Thrones” wedding is coming, and we have to hope it’s better than Sansa Stark’s previous two nuptials.

Over the weekend, singer Joe Jonas, 28, and GoT and “X-Men” actress Sophie Turner, 21, revealed their engagement through the same Instagram photo, with different “said yes” captions:

    She said yes.

    A post shared by J O E J O N A S (@joejonas) on

    I said yes.

A post shared by Sophie Turner (@sophiet) on

Nick Jonas was happy for his brother, but everyone else seemed to embody the gaping mouth emoji, fighting through mixed emotions:

Total agreement with that last one.

Turner’s engagement closely follows the engagement of her on-screen brother/king Kit Harington (Jon Snow), who popped the question to former co-star Rose Leslie (Ygritte) just last month.

Airbnb's New York City Experiences Launch EventThis may seem fast, since Turner is only 21 and that’s relatively young for an engagement these days, but they’ve been dating since late 2016. And when you know, you know. Over this past summer, Turner toured with Jonas’ band DNCE, taking their new adopted dog along with them.

The final season of “Game of Thrones” is now in session, with the cast gathering in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and doing the first table read back on October 9. There are only six episodes, but filming is meant to continue until summer 2018.

  • Jason Momoa Apologizes for ‘Distasteful’ ‘Game of Thrones’ Rape Joke

CinemaCon 2017 - Warner Bros. Pictures Invites You To 'The Big Picture', An Exclusive Presentation Of Our Upcoming SlateA cringe-worthy joke “Game of Thrones” has come back to haunt him.

The joke was made during the GoT panel at San Diego Comic-Con in 2011, but it went viral six years later on Twitter, with many fans just seeing it for the first time.

    Here’s what Momoa said:

“But as far as Sci-Fi and Fantasy, I love that genre. There’s so many things you can do, like for instance rip someone’s tongue out of their throat, and get away with it, and rape beautiful women.”

Here’s the video of him saying it:

(Did you hear that loud obsequious laughter after the joke? You wanna be mad at someone? Be mad at those enabling fools, too.)

Reaction to the revived joke was mixed — some fans were disgusted that Momoa would say something like that at any point, and others said it was six years ago and just a joke as opposed to actions.

Momoa didn’t ignore the debate. Instead, he jumped in with an apology on Instagram:

    I APOLOGISE Aloha j

A post shared by Jason Momoa (@prideofgypsies) on

Momoa’s fans are mostly defending him, saying he shouldn’t have felt compelled to apologize at all, since it was just a joke — not actions, unlike the Harvey Weinstein scandal — and it all happened six years ago. But words matter, and reputations matter to Hollywood stars promoting their film projects. He also probably genuinely regrets the comment, since people do mature over time, and he’s now a superhero role model kids will be looking up to after “Justice League” and “Aquaman.”

    “Justice League” opens November 17th.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Star Says Actors Won’t Get Season 8 Scripts: Truth or Joke?

The security level on “Game of Thrones” is turning up to 11.

Star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime Lannister, said that after the script leaks that plague Season 7, the HBO drama is doubling down — to the point where even the actors aren’t getting them.

“Now we’re not even going to get the script. Now we are going to do a scene, we will be told what’s going to happen and then we roll,” he told Scandinavian talk show Skavlan.

“We’re all going to have earpieces for the scene and then someone’s going to tell you the line and then you’re going to do the line.”

OK, so, Coster-Waldau is probably joking, since his co-star, Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth), told IGN that he’s read most of the scripts. Still, security is very tight for the eighth and final season — the scripts come in digital-only form and can only be opened inside Belfast’s Titanic Studios.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Star Kit Harington Makes Dirty Slip Explaining Proposal to Rose Leslie

Premiere Of HBO's 'Game Of Thrones' Season 7 - Arrivals“Game of Thrones” star Kit Harington was so excited to talk about how he proposed to fiancee Rose Leslie, his words came spilling out too fast and he inadvertently made a dirty slip.

Harington and Leslie first met on the set of “Game of Thrones,” when she played fiery wildling Ygritte. Their on-screen romance then moved off screen, and the two dated for five years. So, there was quite a build-up and Harington made elaborate plans to propose.

“I was going to string up some lights in some trees and do all the romantic stuff, but we were in the country and we were under this beautiful night sky and had a log fire burning and red wine and I blew my load early,” he said.

He quickly realized the sexual connotation of his words.

“Sorry! That’s a really bad expression,” he laughed. “What I meant to say was, I popped my question a bit early.”

The final season of “Game of Thrones” is set to begin production next week. The lengthy filming schedule, as well as post-production work, likely means that fans won’t see it until 2019. And Harington and Leslie’s wedding may just delay the premiere even more.

“I rang [a producer] and I said, ‘I’m getting married and it’s your fault actually,’” he said. “I was like, ‘You need to factor in a ‘Game Of Thrones’ wedding by the way. [The cast] have all got to be there so the whole thing has got to shut down!’”

  • Marco Rubio on ‘Game of Thrones’: ‘It’s Got a Lot of Good Strategies’

President Trump Delivers Remarks On US-Cuba Relations In MiamiThe world would be infinitely scarier if politicians started asking themselves, “What would Cersei do?”

Fortunately, Marco Rubio was joking when he suggested that watching “Game of Thrones” would have improved his political career. The U.S. senator from Florida was speaking at the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute’s sixth annual trade symposium at the Canadian Embassy on Wednesday when he quipped that he should have started watching the hit HBO fantasy series sooner.

“If I’d have watched [‘Game of Thrones’] two years ago, I would’ve been president,” he joked. “It’s got a lot of good strategies.”

We wouldn’t want to see anyone try out “Game of Thrones”-style tactics in real life, especially given how ugly last year’s presidential election already was. Rubio was part of the large Republican field that battled for the GOP nomination during the primary last year before ultimately losing to now-President Donald Trump. Among the low points were Trump nicknaming Rubio “Little Marco” and the two infamously exchanging jabs about penis size during a March debate.

Unpleasant as politics in the United States can be, at least we can say we haven’t hit the lows of Westeros, where characters scheme, manipulate, and murder to the n-th degree.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Star Iain Glen Provides Update on Season 8 Progress

We’re counting on “Game of Thrones” updates to get us through the extra-long wait for Season 8, and Iain Glen has delivered.

The actor, who plays Ser Jorah Mormont on the hit HBO series, was at Comic Con Stockholm in mid-September, but Watchers on the Wall just recently tracked down a still-relevant video of his Q&A session. During the event, Glen revealed that the first “Game of Thrones” Season 8 read-through is schedule for Oct. 9 in Northern Ireland.

At the time of the Q&A, Glen was just as in the dark as the rest of us as to his character’s fate, and he didn’t expect to find anything out before the read-through.

“I suspect that will be about the first time that us as actors find out what’s going on,” he told fans. “They don’t trust us. Something like that.”

Glen also shed light on why the final season of the series is expected to take so much longer to shoot than the previous ones, even though it will be the shortest. In his view, the major factor is that they’ll be down to a single filming unit for the first time. In the past, when characters were more spread out, they could use two and even three units to film in different locations simultaneously.

“I think this last season will take much longer to shoot because they can only use one unit because we’re all in the same sort of scenes,” he said.

It’s logical, but let’s be honest: We wish we didn’t have to wait.

You can watch the full Q&A below.

“Game of Thrones” Season 8 is expected to premiere in 2019.

  • ‘The Simpsons’ Premiere Spoofed ‘Game of Thrones’ (With the ‘Real’ Jaime Lannister)

“The Simpsons” launched Season 29 last night with a fantasy-themed episode featuring “Game of Thrones” star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

The Jaime Lannister actor voiced, naturally, a Jaime Lannister-esque twin to Marge Simpson.

The episode — called “The Serfsons” — didn’t just play off GoT, it also referenced other fantasy TV shows, books, and films, including “The Lord of the Rings.”

“It’s a sprawling epic fantasy episode that’s worthy of a 9-hour movie trilogy — 10-and-a-half hours after you count the extended edition,” “Simpsons” executive producer Matt Selman told EW. “Setting an episode in a fantasy world allowed us to tell a deeper, more emotional story that had huge surges of emotion and feeling but also is really silly. It has a lot of satire and asks interesting philosophical questions — and makes fun, pointed political commentary.”

GoT fans noticed more than just Jaime Lannister, there was also a three-eyed raven, regular-eyed ravens sending messages, Marge’s mom as a White Walker, and a Ned head on a spike, among other things:

IndieWire broke down the premiere’s many references to “Game of Thrones,” “Lord of the Rings,” “Dungeons & Dragons,” “Magic: The Gathering,” “The Chronicles of Narnia,” and more.

“The Simpsons” Season 29 airs Sundays on Fox. “Game of Thrones” Season 8 starts filming this month for a premiere in 2018 or (more likely) 2019 on HBO.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8: New Role Spoilers Confirm Summer 2018 Filming, 2019 Premiere?

Ugh. The rumor that “Game of Thrones” Season 8 may not premiere until 2019 is looking more likely by the day.

The final season of HBO’s most popular show only has six episodes left to its name. Variety just reported that each of those episodes will cost $15 million each — which is more than usual, and hopefully means each episode will indeed be feature-length. The Hollywood Reporter also slipped in a note about the filming schedule:

“Production on the fantasy drama’s eighth season is slated to begin in October and run as late as August 2018, sources say. That could push the return of the abbreviated six-episode final run into 2019 with a more than 16-month gap between seasons.”

For comparison’s sake, last year’s seven episodes started filming a bit later than previous seasons, at the very end of August/early September 2016, and finished in February 2017. That later filming schedule — which doesn’t include the huge amount of post-production work — is how Season 7 ended up premiering in July instead of April, like previous seasons.

So if they start in October and film into the summer of 2018, you can imagine how far back that could push the final season’s premiere.

HBO hasn’t confirmed the production schedule, but Watchers on the Wall just shared details on seven new roles the show is looking to cast for Season 8. Check out the dates on this one:

“According to our sources, GoT is looking for a Mercenary, aged 35 – 50. He’s described as an authoritative, fit, cool and charismatic military type. He’ll be appearing in 2 episodes of season 8. The role requires he be able to ride a horse- no surprise for a mercenary on Thrones! The actor will be rehearsing in October, filming the week commencing December 11th, and then once again in May and June of 2018.”

As they note, the mercenary role sounds like a member of the Golden Company that Euron Greyjoy went off to find in the Season 7 finale. But the filming dates are also interesting — this character is expected to film into June 2018. June is not August, but it’s summer, and it’s the latest we’ve ever seen for GoT filming. It’s possible that June role will be for the final episode, but maybe not, if they do film “as late as August 2018.”

So it is looking more likely that the final season of “Game of Thrones” will not air in 2018 — unless HBO can squeeze it in at the very end of the year, which they are more than welcome to do. The shortest season may take the longest to complete, and we’ll just have to be patient for it to show up.

Read more about the other parts WotW says they’re now casting. They previously told us about these two other young roles.

  • Kit Harington & Rose Leslie Confirm Engagement With ‘Cute and Old School’ Notice

The Olivier Awards 2017 - VIP ArrivalsIt’s official! And it’s adorable.

Yesterday, “Game of Thrones” real-life couple Kit Harington (Jon Snow) and Rose Leslie (Ygritte) were engaged. The news came from a “source,” though, and there had been a previous engagement rumor that was later shot down.

But the newly engaged couple confirmed the news themselves by posting a notice in the Times newspaper in the U.K.:

Kit Harington And Rose Leslie Announce EngagementWhen “Game of Thrones” Season 8 starts filming, everyone on set should insist on calling him “Mr. K.C. Harington.”

That simple but definitive notice won the hearts of a cynical modern fandom:

But, OK, maybe others were less charmed:

True. A wedding is the last place any “Game of Thrones” fan should want to be.

GoT Season 8 is now in pre-production and will reportedly start filming in October and continue at least until June 2018 and potentially till August, which would certainly suggest a 2019 premiere. Jon Snow was revealed to be Aegon Targaryen, and he’s now dating his aunt Daenerys. It’s weird, but that’s OK, as long as Jon doesn’t get killed a second time and Dany doesn’t suffer Ygritte’s fate.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’ and Other TV Shows Have Insane Budgets, Thanks to Peak TV

Peak TV may be great for viewers, with endless series to choose from, but it’s a giant headache for studios, which have seen costs soar in recent years. A new report from Variety breaks down why expenses are so high, and reveals the jaw-dropping numbers behind some of the most popular shows on television. (Not-so-surprising spoiler alert: A certain HBO fantasy series is insanely expensive to produce.)

According to Variety, each episode from the upcoming eighth and final season of “Game of Thrones” will cost a whopping $15 million — and potentially more. That’s a far cry from the show’s first season, which had an average price tag of around $6 million per episode.

With “Thrones” specifically, such a dramatic increase in budget is thanks to the production growing more elaborate as the show has gained in popularity, with filming now spanning four continents and an ever-growing roster of actors and crew members to employ. But while that series is a bit of an outlier, making up for such wild spending with a solid revenue stream, some anonymous execs who spoke with Variety worried about the precedent set by such lavish spending — and how the industry would keep itself afloat in the wake of the ever-increasing glut of programming.

The report notes that streaming platforms are by far the biggest spenders, shelling out huge sums to secure big name talent. But while A-list film stars and award-winning directors come with a high price tag (Robert DeNiro, for example, is expected to make $775,000 per episode for his untitled David O. Russell crime drama on Amazon), that’s only one piece of the increasingly-expensive puzzle.

    Variety reports:

… [C]osts are soaring for everything from location scouting to renting equipment to securing post-production facilities. A wide range of services takes longer to secure and costs more even when it’s in hand — particularly transportation-related expenses.

Another reason production costs are rising: a lack of experience on the part of showrunners and crews in making the most of every hour of production time. Industry insiders privately speculate that the strain on the talent pool of line producers and technical, craft and stunt crew members has been a factor in what seems to be a jump in the number of on-set accidents in recent months.

Simply put, it’s impossible to have seasoned people at the helm of every show when the volume of scripted series production spiked 71% between 2011 and 2016 — or from 266 series in 2011 to 455 in 2016, according to FX Networks Research. The 2017 tally is projected to top 500.

We suppose it’s comforting to know that even those who are making Peak TV are overwhelmed by it, too.

The entire report is fascinating and worth a read. Check it out over at Variety.
