  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Stars Kit Harington and Rose Leslie Are (Finally!) Engaged: Report

Premiere Of HBO's 'Game Of Thrones' Season 7 - ArrivalsAfter sparking marriage rumors this summer, former “Game of Thrones” costars Kit Harington and Rose Leslie have now reportedly made things official: Sources tell People that the couple is indeed engaged.

According to People (which, for what it’s worth, is the most reliable celebrity gossip outlet on the market), a source “confirmed” the news, though neither Harington (who plays Jon Snow on the HBO series) nor Leslie (who played Ygritte) has publicly commented on the report yet. The pair — who played love interests on “Thrones,” and shared a steamy season three sex scene — started dating in real life in 2012, briefly broke up, and then reconciled, before making their public debut as a couple in April 2016.

Back in July, a tabloid report claimed that Harington had popped the question, though a rep for the actor later debunked that rumor. In June, Harington briefly touched upon his future with Leslie in an interview on “The Late Late Show With James Corden” — egged on by none other than Nicole Kidman — and said that the actress had recently moved into his house.

    Congrats to the soon-to-be-newlyweds!

  • Here Are the ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8 Directors

The final season of “Game of Thrones” will be directed by veterans, including two Emmy winners.

Season 8 is comprised of six episodes. At least one will be overseen by Miguel Sapochnik, who won an Emmy for helming Season 6’s iconic “Battle of the Bastards.” He also directed the fantastic finale “The Wind of Winter,” in which Cersei blew up the Sept of Baelor and Daenerys sailed for Westeros.

David Nutter is also returning after taking off Season 7. He also won an Emmy for directing an episode, the Season 5 finale “Mother’s Mercy.” He was responsible for the game-changing Red Wedding episode “The Rains of Castamere,” as well.

Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss will reportedly take the reins on the highly-anticipated series finale. They directed Season 3’s “Walk of Punishment” and Season 4’s “Two Swords.”

“Game of Thrones” directors usually pull double duty, overseeing two episodes in a season. It’s unclear if Sapochnik, Nutter, and D&D will split Season 8 evenly.

Filming on the final season begins in October, with some sources saying it will last through next summer. HBO has yet to announced a potential return date for its fantasy drama, but it’s highly possible it won’t be back until 2019 (sob).

  • Jay-Z Watched Leaked ‘Game of Thrones’ Episode Like Everyone Else

NBA All-Star Game 2017Celebrities, they’re just like us — and download leaked episodes of “Game of Thrones”!

Rapper Jay-Z proved even pop culture gods are mere mortals when it comes to the HBO drama. In an interview with BBC Radio 1, Jay admitted he watched a leaked episode.

“I feel bad, I feel guilty. I actually stole a little episode they put out that leaked,” he said. “I was coming on the plane, I think I deserved that. I was flying on a plane, I watched an episode. What you want me to do? People bootleg my album. I’m old a little bit.”

But guys, he totally watched the actual broadcast, so it’s OK!

“I’ll watch Sunday and give them the ratings thing,” he said. “I’m not gonna do them like that.”

The real betrayal is that Jay may have watched the leaked episode without Beyonce. And we know she’s a fan since star Emilia Clarke has said that he bought his wife one of the coveted dragon eggs from the set.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Fifth Spinoff Will Be Written by a Guy Fans Know Pretty Well

The last of the five “Game of Thrones” prequel series writers has been revealed: He’s a longtime GoT scribe, and — at one point — a controversial one.

According to Entertainment Weekly, GoT co-executive producer Bryan Cogman has joined the list of spinoff writers.

Here are the previous four writers revealed:

    • Max Borenstein (“Godzilla,” “Kong: Skull Island”)
    • Jane Goldman (“Kick-Ass,” “Kingsman” and “X-Men” franchises)
    • Brian Helgeland (“Mystic River,” “A Knights Tale”)
    • Carly Wray (“Mad Men,” “The Leftovers”)

Cogman is the only writer that was part of the “Game of Thrones” family from Season 1, when he started as an assistant to showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Cogman has written 10 episodes of GoT, including the well-regarded “Stormborn” (Season 7), “The Laws of Gods and Men” and “Oathkeeper” (Season 4), and “Kissed by Fire” (Season 3). However, he also wrote Season 5’s “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken,” the Sansa/Ramsay/Theon wedding night episode that polarized fans. It is the lowest-rated episode of the series to date on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb.

HBO's Post Emmy Awards Reception - ArrivalsAuthor George R.R. Martin is working with all of the prequel series writers, and he has already said it’s unlikely that all of them will find their way to the screen. He revealed there would be five writers back in May, although he didn’t name Cogman at the time. Martin did gush, though, “He’s a really terrific addition, however, a great guy and a fine writer, and aside from me and maybe Elio and Linda, I don’t know anyone who knows and loves Westeros as well as he does.”

GRRM also revealed, at the time, that the “sucessor shows” (his preferred term, over spinoffs) would NOT follow Robert’s Rebellion or Dunk & Egg. It remains to be seen what any of the five prequels in the works will cover, or which ones will progress the fastest and actually arrive on screen.

All of that will happen after the final season of “Game of Thrones,” which is now in pre-production, with Season 8 set to start filming in October to premiere … sometime. HBO hasn’t revealed the premiere date yet, but it’s hoped to be in 2018 and not 2019.

  • Emilia Clarke Is Ditching Her Daenerys Wig for ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8

Most “Game of Thrones” fans know by now that the white-blonde hair sported by Daenerys Targaryen on the HBO fantasy series is actually a wig, since star Emilia Clarke is a natural brunette in real life. But for the upcoming eighth and final season of the show, Clarke is ditching the fake follicles and reaching for the bleach instead.

In a post on Instagram, the actress revealed that she recently did something a little drastic to her ‘do: She chopped it off, and dyed it blonde. And yes, it was intentionally done for “Thrones.”

“Mother of dragons meet Emilia. Emilia meet mother of dragons,” Clarke captioned her post, using her character’s nickname.

The actress also gave a shout-out to “Thrones” hairdressers Kev Alexander and Candice Banks, who crafted the Khaleesi’s iconic (fake) locks over the past seven seasons, and who helped her with her new haircut. Clarke’s hashtags — which she always uses to hilarious effect — also make it clear that she’s about to start shooting season eight of the series. “Coming home never felt so good,” she wrote in one.

“Thrones” fans probably feel the same way. We’ll be eagerly keeping our eye on Clarke’s Instagram account for more behind the scenes peeks as season eight continues production.

“Game of Thrones” is currently slated to return for its curtain call on HBO sometime next year.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Spoilers: Season 8 Now Casting Two Intriguing Young Roles

Potential spoilers ahead from “Game of Thrones” Season 8.

“Game of Thrones” is down to its final season, but new roles are still being added for the final six episodes. Or are they existing roles with younger actors? Watchers on the Wall just shared some intel on casting taking place this week in the U.K., with the HBO show looking for two standout child actors — one girl, and one boy. Are they younger versions of characters we know, or brand new for Season 8?

Pre-production is already in session, with the actors meant to return for filming in October. These new roles are scheduled to start filming in November and December.

Here are the casting breakdowns from WotW:

NORTHERN GIRL: “The first role we’ve learned about is for a Northern Girl. The character will be around age 8, but they are open to seeing actresses older than this, up to age 10. The role is described as being a straight-talking Northern-accented girl, someone remarkable for her dauntlessness and integrity. According to the write-up, she’s been brought up in a family of soldiers and shares their fearlessness. The part is said to be a ‘very nice stand-out part for a strong-minded young girl with a fighting spirit.’ The role of the Northern Girl is currently set to shoot during the week commencing November 17th.”

BOY: “Game of Thrones is also searching for a Boy aged 8 – 12, with a physically fit and agile look, someone with a good, distinctive face. He’s described as being from a poor background, a boy who has to fight to make his way in the world. The description we saw mentions that they need an actor who can ‘completely own the scenes that he appears in,’ hinting at multiple scenes. No coloring or height was noted, for what it’s worth. The young actor is currently scheduled for filming the last week of November and the last week of December, but as always with Game of Thrones, things can change.”

The Northern girl sounds like both Lyannas we know — Mormont and Stark. Could we be getting Lyanna Stark flashbacks to her youth? If not, who is this girl and her standout part? A wildling? Daughter of Tormund?

The boy. Some fans think that might be young Varys. Or Bronn? Or the boy could be one of the “little birds” who provide information. We’ll see.

“Game of Thrones” Season 8 has no premiere date at this point, but we recently heard that they’ll be shooting multiple endings to try and avoid the usual spoilers. What they really need to do is figure out how to avoid an entire season rundown leaking from their own camp in advance. And then don’t let the HBO contractors leak the episodes the week before they air.

  • Twitter Has a Field Day With Hillary Clinton’s Awkward ‘Game of Thrones’ Comparison

US-POLITICS-CLINTON-BOOK-SIGNING“What Happened” isn’t just the name of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s new book — it’s probably the question she’s asking herself after seeing the reaction to a “Game of Thrones” comparison she made in the memoir.

The section of the book in question technically only likens the shouts of Trump supporters at rallies to the cries of the religious zealots of “Game of Thrones” during Cersei Lannister’s Season 5 walk of shame. However, most people realized that this would put Clinton in Cersei’s place, which makes the comparison pretty counter-productive if her goal was to improve her public image. The topic got Twitter in a frenzy, for once aligning people who normally disagree over political issues.

While some Clinton opponents were only too happy to run with the Cersei comparison, the majority of people just couldn’t believe she made it in the first place. As “Game of Thrones” fans know, Cersei Lannister isn’t really a person you want to be likened to.

Let this be a lesson to future memoirists: Be careful with your pop culture references.

  • Multiple ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8 Endings Will Be Filmed

After a “Game of Thrones” season of rife with leaks, hacks, and spoilers, HBO is turning to trickery to maintain its secrecy.

The show’s producers are planning to film multiple Season 8 endings, according to HBO Programming President Casey Bloys. He explained the reasoning while speaking last week at Moravian College in his hometown of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, as the Morning Call reports.

“They’re going to shoot multiple versions so that nobody really know what happens,” Bloys said.

Secrecy often presents a challenge on long-running shows, as fans are extremely invested in plot lines and how they will unfold. As such, HBO’s multiple endings tactic is necessary.

“You have to do that on a long show. Because when you’re shooting something, people know,” Bloys said. “So [producers are] going to shoot multiple versions so that there’s no real definitive answer until the end.”

That strategy has been used successfully for HBO series in the past, including for “The Sopranos” and its iconic finale. However, for “Game of Thrones” and its huge audience, the tactic will be perhaps even more important. Not only is the show’s audience bigger, there have been recent high-profile hacks at the premium network.

As we’ve seen, the fandom’s thirst is insatiable, so keeping the finale under wraps will likely be difficult for HBO even with multiple endings. We’ll see how it goes when “Game of Thrones” Season 8 premieres in late 2018 or early 2019.

  • Why Sebastian Stan Feels Like Jon Snow on the ‘Avengers’ Films Set

ENTERTAINMENT-CANADA-FILM-FESTIVALBucky Barnes and Jon Snow are both warriors of few words with strong ties to winter and no clue whether they’ll live long enough to take on a new leadership role.

Sebastian Stan plays Bucky/The Winter Soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently completing his work in “Avengers: Infinity War” and now doing whatever it is that he’s doing for “Avengers 4.”

Stan is also a big “Game of Thrones” fan, and compared his on-set status to a Jon Snow scene in Season 6’s “Battle of the Bastards.” Unfortunately, he was describing the scene to an MTV News reporter who was not familiar with the show. But since the whole thing was taped, you can watch Stan describe it and understand what he was trying to say.

SebStan was at the Toronto Film Festival to promote “I, Tonya,” but got into a conversation about “Avengers: Infinity War” and the as-yet-untitled “Avengers 4.” Here’s what he had to say about “Infinity War”:

“It certainly is the biggest culmination of anything and everything that they’ve done so far. It’s just going to be bigger and crazier than anything. I mean the footage that I saw at Disney D23 was just mindblowing. […]

I think that was my biggest question: How does everybody interact with each other? My guy is just figuring out — as usual — figuring out where he’s at.”

Stan was asked if he had been able to read the entire scripts for both movies. Hard no on that.

“I only read whatever they gave me on the day. It’s usually like a day-to-day thing. I certainly don’t know what I have to do next.”

The MTV reporter asked if he was surprised or excited by the arc for Bucky or Cap, wondering if we can expect to see Bucky transitioning into the Captain America role.

“I honestly have no idea. Like, I really don’t know what I would say to somebody asking me that. I don’t know.

We just gotta all survive this war, first of all. Sometimes it’s questionable. I feel a lot like that Jon Snow character. Remember ‘Battle of the Bastards’? First of all, ‘Battle of the Bastards’ was one of the best episodes. […] For anyone that knows out there, when there’s that shot of Jon Snow, from the back as horses are charging at him, and he’s just standing there — that’s kind of how I feel on set at times. I’m like, ‘Will I make this stampede or not?’”

Hopefully he has Jon Snow’s incredible luck on that front — or a sibling like Sansa Stark.

“Avengers: Infinity War” opens May 4th, 2018. “Avengers 4” is scheduled to open May 3, 2019.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 Had the Least, But Most Equal, Amount of Nudity

“Game of Thrones” Season 7 was the shortest so far, and it also had the fewest naked characters. However, it was the first season to have an equal 50/50 ratio of male/female naughty bits. Maybe that’s what happens when you have queens in power?

Broadly has been keeping track of every instance of death, rape, and nudity on GoT. Since Season 8 will only have six episodes, it’s likely that Season 1 is going to retain its title as the most nude season. (Season 1 also tied Season 4 for the most rapes.) However, Season 2 had the highest female ratio, with every nude body being female and none male. Women have better luck when it comes to staying alive, though, with Broadly’s count of onscreen deaths showing only 5.8 percent of them have been women.

Here’s a breakdown of the nudity, season by season:

    • Season 1: 33 naked people (88% women, 12% men)
    • Season 2: 16 naked people (100% women, 0% men)
    • Season 3: 19 naked people (79%, 21% men)
    • Season 4: 23 naked people (91% women, 9% men)
    • Season 5: 28 naked people (68% women, 32% men)
    • Season 6: 22 naked people (91% women, 9% men)
    • Season 7: 6 naked people (50%, 50% men)

And here’s Broadly‘s methodology to get those stats:

“I wanted to count both men and women’s nipples with equal weight, but it’s clear that this show doesn’t value them the same way. I counted women as naked if they bared at least one nipple, their buttocks, or genitals. I counted men as naked if they exposed their buttocks or genitals. This graph illustrates the percentages each season contributed to the 144 total naked people, as well as their percentage breakdowns by gender.”

    Here’s the graph:

It’s fitting that the season that introduced Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow, and ended with their first love scene, also had the first equal amount of nudity. You break that wheel!

“Game of Thrones” Season 8 is now in pre-production, with that final season airing in either 2018 or 2019.
