  • ‘Teen Wolf’ Will End After Season 6

teen wolf, season 6, final season, series finale, MTV

MTV series “Teen Wolf” is coming to an end, with the cast and crew revealing the news during a panel at Comic-Con this week.

Series creator and showrunner Jeff Davis made the big announcement on Thursday, surrounded by stars Tyler Posey, Holland Roden, Dylan Sprayberry, Cody Christian, and Khylin Rhambo. (Star Dylan O’Brien was unable to attend.)

“These next 20 episodes will be the final episodes of ‘Teen Wolf,’” Davis told the SDCC crowd of the upcoming sixth season.

The series finale, set for sometime in 2017, will also mark the show’s 100th episode. Davis later released a statement commenting on the news.

“‘Teen Wolf’ has been an extraordinary journey, one that captured the hearts and imaginations of fans more than we could’ve ever imagined,” the showrunner’s statement said. “We’re eternally grateful for the support we’ve received over these past six years and we’re excited to take our brave fans on one last, thrilling adventure.”

The “Teen Wolf” panel also featured the debut of a new trailer for season six, which you can watch below.

There’s no official release date for season six yet, though it’s slated to premiere sometime in November. The 2017 series finale date has also not been set. Stay tuned.

  • Fox Cancels Comic-Con Panel Over Piracy Concerns: Report

Comic-Con International 2015 - 20th Century FOX PanelFilm fans excited to see 20th Century Fox’s presentation at this summer’s Comic-Con may want to get a refund on their tickets: The studio is reportedly pulling out of its planned Hall H panel over piracy concerns.

According to TheWrap, Fox “feels it cannot prevent the piracy of custom trailers and exclusive footage” that it normally debuts during the annual San Diego celebration, and thus is taking the precaution of not holding an event at all. The studio declined to comment on TheWrap’s report.

Last summer, footage from Fox’s hotly-anticipated “Deadpool” screened at the convention — and then promptly showed up online a few days later. That was also the case for the studio’s “X-Men: Apocalypse,” as well as rival Warner Bros.’s “Suicide Squad,” prompting SDCC officials to release a statement bemoaning the violation of trust.

While Fox’s decision seems like a drastic one, it’s apparently not alone: TheWrap reports that Disney is also considering canceling its promotional presentation. (A representative for Disney told the trade that that claim was not true.)

It’s unclear from TheWrap’s report if Fox’s cast and crew panel discussions — long a popular draw — will be affected by this move. Those Q&A sessions traditionally happen during studios’ marquee Hall H presentations; does that mean that those are out, too — even if participants would stick to talking, rather than rolling footage?

We’ll have to wait and see what the studio’s game plan will be moving forward. We just hope this decision doesn’t affect attendees’ overall con experience — and that it doesn’t become a trend.

  • Melissa Benoist Feels a Responsibility to ‘Stay True’ to ‘Supergirl’

It runs in the family: she’s faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound just like her famous Kryptionian cousin. But as both a superheroine and as a young woman still coming into her own, “Supergirl” has a lot to learn about the world.

For the new CBS series debuting in the fall, actress Melissa Benoist (“Glee,” “Whiplash”) takes on the iconic mantle of the Ingenue of Steel and her alter ego Kara Danvers, and during her first trip to Comic-Con International in San Diego she revealed all sorts of Super-details, from learning to throw a punch during her super-workout to dancing through the sky to a particularly constraining portion of that caped costume.

Moviefone: Taking on this character, there’s all the comic book history, there’s Helen Slater’s interpretation from the ’80s, the animated version, Laura Vandervoort on “Smallville” — what do you want to make out of this?

Melissa Benoist: Wow! Well, obviously, there’s a daunting feeling to arrive at a point where this is a character that is so developed and so many people already love. So there’s responsibility, and I arrive wanting to just stay true to a lot of that. But what I want to bring is: I love her humanity, even though she is an alien. I love that she really has a lot of discovering to do and growth and makes mistakes. I think she’s so relatable, and I just want to stay true to that.

Did you audition with a Kara scene or Supergirl scene?

I’m trying to remember. I think the auditions were Kara and Jimmy. Kara and Winn, for sure. And Kara and Cat. So I don’t think there were any Supergirl [scenes].

Once you got the role, did you immediately run to the gym?

    [Laughs] Kind of!

What did you do to get in Supergirl shape? Did you have to step up your workouts?

Oh, yeah, I did. I immediately [did] — I am such a pacifist in my everyday life. I don’t think I’ve ever hit anyone before, and so I definitely had to learn technique. Like, how to actually punch someone and not hurt yourself more than you’re hurting the person you’re punching. And so boxing was part of it, and core work and Pilates and biometrics — a lot of it.

Did it change your mindset, getting yourself physically transformed?

Yeah, yeah, the motivation there, and the drive, it definitely affects. Because I don’t have a choice, and I can’t sit down and be like, “Oh, I’m done. I want some popcorn.” Like I have to stay on top of my game.

What about the wirework for the flying sequences?

It’s hard. The wirework is really difficult, but so fun. And when you get it right, watching the result is exhilarating. It’s a really, really cool feeling to know what it felt like, the energy I had to exert to create those flying scenes. And then the way they look is really rewarding.

How did it feel to see yourself in the costume?

There’s this internal feeling. Something changes. It’s this transformation, almost, to the point where I don’t recognize myself when I’m in it. I feel like a different person.

On a practical level, what do you love about the costume and what do you not love?

That’s a really good question [laughs]. I love that -– I grew up as a dancer, so it feels like a leotard and skirt and tights that I wore when I was a ballerina. But what is impractical or sometimes painful — even though I think I’m very lucky in terms of my suit; I know a lot of people have masks that sweat and don’t breathe at all — mine has a corset. My cape is a corset, and so that sometimes when I’m on the wire is like… it’s constricting.

Are you doing your own stunts?

I’m trying to do a lot of them because I want to. I think they’re so fun. There are some that I just can’t — I really could get injured. But I’m trying to. My stunt double is amazing. She was Jen Garner’s on “Alias.” She’s all over the place, and she’s so cool. I wish people could see what they go through. It’s insane.

Are you trying to bring that dancer’s grace to the flying and to the movement?

Of course. What I think is cool is to try to bring kind of a femininity to her strength. You see Superman and it’s obviously this solid thing. But I do like the idea of bringing in like a grace to it, and a fluidity and kind of this femininity to flying. It’s fun.

When you did this pilot, did you think this was a show that would get a series order?

Yes and no. I think I was 50/50. I really believed in it. And I think I knew deep down that people would like it, especially like young girls. That’s who I really wanted to affect. But, of course, there’s always that moment where you’re like, “Oh, man, I don’t know what’s going to happen.” But now, I’m fairly certain that people are really excited, from what everyone’s been saying.

  • This Is the Most Badass Rancor Costume You’ll Ever See

The Rancor from “Star Wars” was already an amazingly memorable beast, but now it’s officially been immortalized in the “Next-Level Insane” tier of the Comic-Con cosplay canon. (It’s a thing. Look it up.)

Effects artist Frank Ippolito pulled off an insanely detailed costume rendition of the carnivorous reptomammal based on references from an original test costume used for the “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi” production team. What’s more? The Tested team put together a vid to show you exactly how it was made. Fascinating stuff.star wars rancor costume%Slideshow-303859%

  • Here’s Why ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ Will Not Have a Director’s Cut

Joss Whedon‘s first cut of “Avengers: Age of Ultron” was way longer than what aired at 2 hours, 22 minutes. But even though the eventual Blu-ray/DVD will include special features, there will be no official director’s cut — or anything like Bryan Singer’s new “Rogue Cut” for “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” Why not? While at Comic-Con this past weekend, Joss was on a NerdHQ panel moderated by Zachary Levi, and a fan asked about the possibility of an “Age of Ultron” director’s cut.

    Here’s Joss’s reply:

It has always been my ambition never to do a director’s cut of anything and always to make the movie with the studio that we both want to make. ‘Ultron’ was very complex and there was a lot of back-and-forth. My instinct is no. Just as an artist, I’m super f-cking lazy and that sounds like I’d have to go back, it would be hard. I don’t think there’s interest in it, right now. You’ll see a bunch of stuff on the DVD in extras that were meant to be there, but, you know, the narrative came together very close to the way that I hoped that it would and I don’t think it needs me to constantly tweak it. I feel you put something out and there it is.”

Watch his whole panel here (the director’s cut answer is around the 2:30 mark):

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige talked to Cinema Blend about Joss’s original cut of “Age of Ultron” and seemed to agree with Joss about people not really wanting to see the footage they cut:

Most films you can put an assembly together and it can be two hours and 45 minutes to three hours. I think the longest version of this was two hours and 45 minutes, thereabout. The longest version of ‘Ant-Man’ was three hours, but nobody wants to see those versions of the movie.”

Not quite true. There are definitely fans who would love to see full director’s cut versions, and not just deleted scenes or alternate endings. But we have to trust that the directors and studios know what they’re doing in just sticking to theatrical versions with a crapload of other extras to sell those DVDs.

  • Jesse Eisenberg Compares Comic-Con Experience to Genocide

Comic-Con International 2015 - Warner Bros. PresentationIn comments that he’ll no doubt attempt to clarify and and correct and ultimately apologize for a few days from now, actor Jesse Eisenberg somehow thought it was a good idea to compare his experience at Comic-Con to genocide.

The “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” star was reflecting on his first time at the fan convention when he told the Associated Press that sitting on a panel, surrounded by excited, adoring fans, was apparently too much for him.

“It is like being screamed at by thousands of people,” Eisenberg told the AP. “I don’t know what the experience is throughout history, probably some kind of genocide. I can’t think of anything that’s equivalent.”

We can’t fault the first portion of Eisenberg’s remarks, since that’s literally what happens at every Comic-Con panel at Hall H. But we’re not quite sure how or why the actor thinks screaming fans are equivalent to genocide. (CinemaBlend notes that perhaps he was going the method route, and will chalk up those comments to coming from his villainous “Batman v Superman” character, Lex Luthor. Only time will tell.)

After trashing the convention, we’re not sure if Eisenberg will ever want to go back (or will be allowed in, for that matter). But maybe he can take a cue from Bill Murray’s Comic-Con handbook for future reference?

  • SDCC: The ‘Suicide Squad’ Comic-Con Trailer Is Finally Online

suicide squad, the joker, jared leto, suicide squad trailerThere were plenty of descriptions of the new “Suicide Squad” trailer that debuted at Comic-Con this weekend (and plenty of bootleg versions, too), but now, the official clip has finally made its way online for your (legal) viewing pleasure.

Earlier reports suggested that the introduction of The Joker (Jared Leto) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) evoked the biggest reactions from the Comic-Con crowd, and it’s not hard to see why. Quinn gets the most screen time of the two in the extended clip, first appearing as an ethereal figure trapped in a cage by Squad assembler Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), dangling from the enclosure like an acrobat; later, she licks the bars in a move that’s both sexy and creepy as hell (no doubt the intention of filmmakers).

Waller describes Quinn and co. as “the worst of the worst,” explaining that by forming a “taskforce of the most dangerous people on the planet,” the U.S. can basically do whatever it wants to the rest of the world, and blame it on the bad guys — and essentially leave them to die — if things go south. “We’re the patsies,” Will Smith‘s Deadshot tells the rest of the villains. “We’re some kind of Suicide Squad.”

The trailer is packed with slick shots of the crew defying death (and even battling Batman), sowing chaos and leaving plenty of destruction in their wake. There are firefights, fistfights, car chases, and more — and then, finally, there’s The Joker.

Saving the spookiest for last, the clip ends with the introduction of Leto’s iconic character, who utters the line, “I’m not gonna kill ya. I’m just gonna hurt ya really, really bad.” He bares his silver teeth and stares straight into the camera with his soulless eyes before the screen goes black, leaving plenty of questions — and plenty of chills — in his wake.

Check out the action-packed trailer below. “Suicide Squad” is due in theaters on August 5, 2016.

  • Watch Daniel Radcliffe’s Cheeky Acceptance Speech for ‘Rear of the Year’ Award

Harry Potter has a nice tush — and he’s flattered that you noticed!

Daniel Radcliffe was at San Diego Comic-Con to promote “Victor Frankenstein” — his upcoming movie with James McAvoy — but E! News also asked him about his recent win for Rear of the Year. This is a genuine thing with British celebrities. It started in 1976 and was just given to women at first, until going equal opportunity with male and female winners every year. Most of the past winners are probably celebs Americans aren’t too familiar with — but this year DanRad himself was honored for his bum.

E! asked if he campaigned for the award. “I’ve been campaigning for years,” Dan joked, then explained a bit about Rear of the Year. “It’s a thing we do it in England. You don’t do it in America, right? … I was going to say, if you don’t do it here in America, maybe my award counts kind of globally.” It does! He seemed genuinely flattered to get the award, and even gave a little acceptance speech:

Thank you to everyone who voted for me for Rear of the Year. It’s a very prestigious honor. And I promise to just get it out a lot more in the future.”

There it is — on the record. It’s coming out more. It’s not like he’s been shy up to this point, which is probably why he won to begin with, since he showed it all on Broadway in “Equus” and bared his butt in “Kill Your Darlings.” But it’s great to see him have such a sense of humor about the whole thing. Even when he has a serious role, he never takes himself too seriously.

    Watch his speech here:

And if you’re curious about “Victor Frankenstein,” Collider has a full recap of what was discussed during the Comic-Con panel.

  • ‘Once Upon a Time’ Spoilers: Merida’s Arrival Tied to Emma’s Journey

UPDATE: Dark Swan rules again. It sounds like Merida’s arrival will be part of Emma’s storyline. Here’s how the showrunners broke it down in a spoiler chat with Entertainment Weekly:

So wait, Merida is NOT Rumple’s mom on Once Upon a Time? — Trisha
Correct! The producers were hoping to keep the surprise of Merida joining the show intact by throwing fans off with fake casting sides. “The only way to throw the press off and our fans off of this being Merida was to say we’re casting Rumple’s mother,” EP Edward Kitsis says. “It honestly worked because for once, this was not spoiled.” Fear not, EP Adam Horowitz says Rumple’s mother is a character they eventually want to introduce. As for Merida, “We’re going to meet her through Emma,” says Kitsis. Adds Horowitz: “It’s certainly a part of Emma’s journey as the Dark Swan and dealing with her darkness. All that is tied with how we explore the world of Camelot this year.”

    Previously…

ABC’s “Once Upon a Time” is going to be very “Brave” in Season 5. The cast took to Comic-Con this weekend to talk about the new season — which starts September 27 — and there was a sneak peek introducing Merida, who will be played by Scottish lass Amy Mason.

    Check it out:

After the OUAT Comic-Con panel, cast members Colin O’Donoghue, Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Morrison, Josh Dallas, Lana Parrilla, Emilie de Ravin and Rebecca Mader talked to TVLine about various Season 5 themes — including Dark Swan and Regina and Emma “flipping” their roles as villain and savior — and discussed the intro of Merida.

TVLine asked the group if they had any idea what would be happening with Merida and who would get to play with her. The cast answered, pretty much in unison, “Someone in this room.” Jennifer Morrison finished that with “… interacts with her.” Lana Parilla added, “And you’ll see her in the first handful of episodes.” So we’ll see the “Brave” archer in the first few episodes (and possibly more, but it’s good to know she’ll have an early intro) and she’ll interact with a main character.

The whole interview is awesome and hilarious. Watch it here:

But which character in that room will Merida interact with — and will it be a friendly interaction or not? Maybe she’ll hang out with Snow White, since she too knows her way around a bow and arrow.

Comic-Con also featured a chilling “Dark Swan” sneak peek, so don’t miss that:

You may have also seen the first Dark Swan photos, plus the showrunners summing up Season 5 in one word. Dark Swan. Camelot. Merida. Zelena’s baby. Regina as the savior. It’s shaping up to be a fascinating season.

  • Behold Epic ‘Superhero Selfies’ With ‘X-Men,’ ‘Gambit,’ ‘Deadpool’ Casts

While David Ayer was mocking Marvel over at DC Comics’ “Suicide Squad” Comic-Con panel, the Marvel team took some epic shots of their own at the 20th Century Fox talk.

Check out Chris Hardwick’s photo with the great Stan Lee himself, backed by some familiar faces like Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Channing Tatum, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence and more. As Chris noted: “Panel 10 – Hall H, @20thCenturyFoxPanel – I mean this HAS to be some kind of damn record. Most superheroes in one selfie? Casts of Wolverine, X-Men, Deadpool, Gambit, and Fantastic Four PLUS the Generalissimo!!!” You can quibble over whether this is really “selfie” or just a group photo but here’s the shot:

Channing Tatum tweeted his own version of the group photo, sharing his excitement to join the team as Gambit:

And here’s arguably the best shot, from 20th Century Fox:
