  • Alfie Allen Brought a Puppy to the ‘Game of Thrones’ Comic-Con Panel & Won Twitter

Comic-Con International 2017 - 'Game Of Thrones' Panel And Q+A SessionThe Wall itself would’ve melted for “Game of Thrones” star shamelessly exploited for cuteness throughout HBO’s Comic-Con panel.

Allen plays Theon Greyjoy, a fascinating, complex character — not quite a hero, not quite a villain — and he joined the cast’s SDCC panel to talk about what’s ahead in Season 7. Kristian Nairn (Hodor) moderated the panel, and asked Allen to introduce his furry friend. Allen then proudly showed off “Abby” to the crowd.

After that, Twitter only had eyes for Abby:

There were others on the panel, too — besides Abby and her papa — including Sophie Turner, Gwendoline Christie, Isaac Hempstead Wright, John Bradley, Nathalie Emmanuel, Conleth Hill, Liam Cunningham, and Jacob Anderson.

Earlier today, HBO also shared a special look ahead at the rest of the seven-episode season. Season 7 continues with “Stormborn” this Sunday, July 23 at 9 p.m. on HBO.

  • 21 Things You Have to See at Comic-Con 2017

Comic-Con International: San Diego is the ultimate pilgrimage for geeks of all stripes. This is the place where hundreds of thousands of people descend to see the latest sneak peaks of upcoming movies, TV, games, and comics. Where they can bump elbows with celebrities and score all the exclusive swag they can carry.

Comic-Con is exciting, but it’s also an exhausting experience for everyone involved. We’re going to try to make things a little easier. Here are the biggest panels and events at this year’s SDCC that are worth battling the crowds to see.

    WEDNESDAY, JULY 19:

    1. Warner Bros: Special Sneak Peek Screenings (6:00-10:00pm Ballroom 20)As usual, Wednesday is “Preview Night” at SDCC, and it’s mostly geared towards collectors lining up to buy exclusive collectibles. But DC fans may want to make room for this event, as WB will be screening a new episode of “Teen Titans Go” and offering an early look at The CW’s “Black Lightning” and Syfy’s “Krypton.”

    THURSDAY, JULY 20:

    2. Anything Goes with John Barrowman (11:00-11:50am Hilton Bayfront – Indigo Ballroom)Anyone who’s ever attended a panel with “Arrow” and “Torchwood” star John Barrowman knows that he puts on a hell of a show.

We don’t know if the actor will reveal anything about his potential involvement in “Arrow: Season 6” at this panel, but it is safe to expect plenty of singing, dancing, and improv as Barrowman entertains his audience. It’s worth venturing outside the confines of the convention center for this one.

    3. 20th Century Fox (11:30am-12:30pm Hall H)This is the first big movie panel of the convention. We’re not sure what properties Fox will be focusing on, but expect new details on upcoming X-Men-related projects like “Dark Phoenix,” “Deadpool 2,” and “New Mutants.” Also, we will see footage from the “Kingsman” sequel.

    4. ‘Battlestar Galactica’ Reunion (2:30-3:30pm Ballroom 20)Last year’s SDCC offered a long-awaited reunion for the cast of 1986’s “Battlestar Galactica” reboot to get back together. If you’re a fan of this series, this is basically a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

    5. ‘Batman: Mask of the Phantasm’: Remastered and Ready (4:15-5:15pm Room 6A)Batman: Mask of the Phantasm” is one of the greatest Batman movies ever made, and it’s finally hitting Blu-ray this month. This panel will feature key players like Bruce Timm, Kevin Conroy, and Alan Burnett as they reminisce about the film and preview some of the remastered footage.

    6. Marvel Television: ‘Marvel’s Inhumans’ (6:15-7:15pm Ballroom 20)The MCU is expanding even further into the TV realm this fall as the Inhumans make their long-awaited debut. Executive Producer Jeph Loeb will moderate this panel as various guest stars stop by to tease what’s to come in the new ABC series.

    FRIDAY, JULY 21:

    7. ‘Young Justice’ Q&A (10:00-11:00am Room 6BCF)“Young Justice” fans finally got their wish earlier this year when it was announced that the animated series will be making its return via DC’s new streaming service.

Creators Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti will be among those attending this panel, as they shed more light on what to expect from the third season and (hopefully) when it’ll be making its debut.

    8. ‘Fear the Walking Dead’/’The Walking Dead’ (11:15am-1:15pm Hall H)Once again, AMC will be taking over the coveted Hall H for a two-hour block as cast and crew members from both “Walking Dead” shows stop by to tease what to expect from upcoming storylines. The first hour will be dedicated to “Fear the Walking Dead,” with the second moving to “The Walking Dead.”

    9. ‘Game of Thrones’ (1:30-2:30pm Hall H)If you can score a seat for the “Walking Dead” panel, you might as well stick around for the next panel. HBO will be shedding more light on the just-premiered seventh season of “Game of Thrones,” with plenty of mystery actors showing up to tease what’s coming as the show moves towards its big finale.

    10. FOX’s ‘The Gifted’ (3:45-4:45pm Ballroom 20)We’re hoping to learn plenty about Fox’s upcoming X-Men movies at Thursday’s 20th Century Fox panel, but if you want to know more about the TV spinoff “The Gifted,” you’ll want to make room for this panel.

    11. ‘Marvel’s The Defenders’ (5:15-6:15pm Hall H)Marvel will follow up Thursday’s Inhumans panel with another TV-centric panel, this time focused on Netflix’s highly anticipated superhero team-up.

Jeph Loeb will again be in attendance, and we’re hoping he’ll be joined by Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, and Finn Jones. Is it too much to hope Sigourney Weaver might pop by, also?

    12. ‘Batman and Harley Quinn’ Premiere (Ballroom 20)DC’s next direct-to-DVD animated movie also happens to be a continuation of the much-beloved “Batman: The Animated Series,” one that forces Batman to join forces with Harley Quinn to defeat Poison Ivy and the Floronic Man.

And if you can’t wait for the movie’s August release date, you’ll get a chance to see it early at DC’s Friday night screening.

    SATURDAY, JULY 22:

    13. Warner Bros. Pictures (11:30am-1:30pm Hall H)JUSTICE LEAGUE (2017) (L-r)†EZRA MILLER as The Flash,†BEN AFFLECK as Batman and GAL GADOT as Wonder Woman Credit: Warner Bros. Pictures/ ô & © DC ComicsExpect this to be one of the more in-demand panels at SDCC this year. The focus will be on upcoming movies like “Justice League.” and “Blade Runner 2049,” as well as next year’s “Ready Player One.” Hopefully we’ll learn more about the next film in the “Fantastic Beasts” series as well. Look for director Steven Spielberg, actor Harrison Ford, and the entire cast of “Justice League” to headline this panel.

    14. ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ (2:30-3:15pm Ballroom 20)CBS’ highly anticipated new “Star Trek” series is getting its own panel. We don’t know which cast and crew members will be in attendance, but no doubt there will be new footage to show and more details about how this series will fit into the larger Trek universe.

    15. Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’ Season 2 (3:00-4:00pm Hall H)The second season of “Stranger Things” just got an October release date, and the series will be making its SDCC debut this year.

Expect various cast and crew to stop by to preview new footage and answer various fan questions.

    16. The CW Arrowverse Panels (3:30-6:30pm Ballroom 20)If you love The CW’s superhero shows and have three hours to kill, you’ll probably want to sit in on this mega-block of panels. All five series — “Supergirl,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” “The Flash,” “Arrow.” and the upcoming “Black Lightning” — will have 40-minute panels dedicated to teasing what’s to come in the fall season. We will also get a look at the new villains that will be threatening the Arrowverse this time.

    17. Robert Kirkman and Todd McFarlane in Conversation (3:30-4:30pm Room 6DE)As much as TV and film announcements have come to dominate SDCC in recent years, this is still a show geared towards comic book fanatics.

If you make a point of attending any comic-focused panel this year, it should probably be this one, where “Invincible”/”The Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman and “Spawn” creator Todd McFarlane have a one-on-one chat about the industry and reminisce about their respective careers.

    18. ‘Westworld’ Panel and Q&A (4:15-5:15pm Hall H)Help fill the wait until “Westworld” finally returns to HBO by attending this star-studded panel that features pretty much every major cast member not named “Sir Anthony Hopkins.” They’ll even be answering fan questions, though we imagine that will only do so much to address the show’s many lingering mysteries.

    19. Marvel Studios (5:30-7:00pm Hall H)Fans who attended the D23 convention this past weekend already got a good look at upcoming MCU projects like “Avengers: Infinity War.” That said, we expect Marvel’s Kevin Feige will have plenty more to reveal at this panel, which promises to be one of the busiest — and biggest — of the show. (Expect to see all or most of the Avengers cast on stage.)

    SUNDAY, JULY 23:

    20. ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’ Animated Series World Premiere (10:15-11:15am Room 6A)Spider-Man is getting a brand new animated series to capitalize on his new movie, and SDCC will be your first opportunity to see how “Marvel’s Spider-Man” stacks up to shows like “The Spectacular Spider-Man” and “Ultimate Spider-Man.” Marvel will be screening the two-part series premiere at this panel.

    21. Doctor Who (2:00-3:00pm Hall H)The BBC pretty much broke the Internet with the announcement that the next incarnation of Doctor Who will be a woman. Expect that announcement to be a big topic of discussion at this panel, which will also basically serve as the final bow for current star Peter Capaldi and showrunner Steven Moffat.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’: Nathalie Emmanuel Wants More Action, Romance for Missandei

Premiere Of HBO's "Game Of Thrones" Season 6 - ArrivalsGame of Thrones” shooting schedule has typically kept her fairly landlocked in the European locations that comprise Meereen, but there’s nothing like Comic-Con International to lure the cast and creators of HBO’s fantasy phenomenon to the sunnier shores of San Diego.

While the actress, who plays Daenerys Targaryen‘s right-hand woman, Missandei, was making the rounds at the pop cultural celebration, she chatted with Moviefone about her role’s increasingly high-profile place in the pantheon of powerful genre women and her hopes to swing a sword or two before too long.

Moviefone: Give me the highlight — the “pinch me, I’m dreaming” moment — of your Comic-Con experience, where you got to geek out over somebody.

Nathalie Emmanuel: Several times throughout the last couple of days. I saw Sigourney Weaver — that made me really happy. I didn’t get to talk to her, but I just admired her from afar and was so happy.

But I got to do a panel with Lucy Lawless. I watched her all growing up, so that was a pretty monumental moment for me. And then she took a selfie and then posted it on her Instagram and tagged me in it, so I feel really cool now. My friend texted me like, “Oh my goodness, it’s you in a picture of Lucy Lawless!” So I was so happy.

What does it mean to you to kind of join this elite group of women in genre entertainment? They were breaking down barriers, things are a little better for your generation, but still you’ve got to fight for the piece of ground you get.

    Absolutely.

So to be a part of that now, and to be with these women who paved the trail — tell me about that experience.

I mean, it was so great. They have so many years of experience and they’ve gone, as you say, for my generation it’s maybe slightly easier, but these women have kind of fought the fight for many, many years, and it’s so inspiring to me, and I just sort of sat with these women like, “Wow!” Yeah, I was in awe of them all really. To be sat next to them and be on a panel as like an equal in a way was just such an honor.

During your “Game of Thrones” panel, you spoke eloquently about the friendship between Daenerys and Missandei. Tell me about your friendship with Emilia Clarke and that partnership at work behind the scenes.

Yeah, Emilia is such a doll. We get along so well. We have a really lovely time working together. I guess in our storyline, it’s mostly guys, and then it’s just us two. And it’s really, really nice to have that female companion and just like friend, and we can take time off set to sort of do girl time and go life download or whatever. So that’s really, really amazing to have.

She’s a really sweet girl, and she’s actually amazing to watch work. I’ve learned a lot from her and I really admire her and her choices that she’s made in her career as a young actress. I’m just so proud to be her friend and work with her. She’s just a wonderful person. And we have so much fun. We have such a giggle.

What’s a goofy off-screen thing that you guys bond over? Is there some shared love of something fun?

Yeah, it’s like Beyoncé and a good cup of tea, to be honest. Just sit and have a good old chat over a cup of tea. Yeah, we really like Beyoncé. So yeah, there’s that.

Do you want more action, or do you want more romance for Missandei? You have a romance with Grey Worm that we got to see it a little bit more than we have recently. What are you hoping for to get to play with her?

I mean, playing some action would be really fun, just because it’s something outside of Missandei’s realm of what she’s done before. War is coming, so maybe she’ll have to. Who knows? She’ll have to learn some sort of skill.

But the romantic side is just such a sweet thing and I love it. Their storyline is so, so, so endearing, and I always enjoy working with Jacob [Anderson]. He’s just wonderful. So to maybe explore that some more would be really fun. It’s so nice to watch. Whenever I see our scenes together, or our little moments together, I’m always like, “yay.” It makes me really happy.

Just to come full circle, what’s the best fan encounter you had at Comic-Con?

Well, there’s been many because everybody’s just showing us so much love! I’ve really just been so happy to have people be high-fiving me and be like, “Yeah, you’re representing strong women.” I had someone high-five me and be like, “Yeah, thank you for representing women of color in ‘Game of Thrones.’”

It’s a real interesting time we’re living in right now. There’s definitely a movement, especially for women and with the most recent unrest with racial unrest and tensions. It’s really, I feel so proud to represent both of those demographics like in “Game of Thrones.” So it’s been so nice to have people receive me so well and like want to high five me and be like,”Hey!” It’s just so great.Thoughts Every "Game Of Thrones" Fan Has On Sunday

  • Secret ‘Blair Witch’ Sequel Unveiled at Comic-Con 2016

By Piya Sinha-Roy and Rollo Ross

LOS ANGELES, July 25 (Reuters) – Participants at Comic-Con that went into a screening for upcoming horror movie “The Woods,” last week were surprised to come out from the movie having watched the sequel to the 1999 found-footage horror film hit, “The Blair Witch Project.”

The subject and title of Lionsgate teaser film “The Woods” was kept under wraps since it began production but was unveiled at San Diego’s pop culture event as “Blair Witch,” the third installment of the franchise, in theaters on Sept. 16.

“Blair Witch, it’s all about the mystery,” director Adam Wingard told Reuters. “I think the way we’re advertising it is in spirit of that.”

The surprise reveal follows in the footsteps of J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot company, which unveiled “10 Cloverfield Lane,” sequel to 2008’s “Cloverfield,” in January, just two months before its release in theaters.

The “Blair Witch Project” was a box office hit in 1999 and ushered in a new era of found-footage horror. The movie featured footage from video tapes found from three documentary filmmakers who went missing in a remote forest as they tried to uncover the local legend of the Blair Witch.

The new “Blair Witch” film follows the brother of one of the missing filmmakers as he takes his friends out to the same forest to search for his sister. Events quickly go downhill when the group loses track of time and their location and get lost in the woods.

“Blair Witch” skips over the events of the 2000 sequel “Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2” that was derided by fans.

“We’ve changed the mythology in a lot of ways just to kind of introduce new features and new ideas,” writer Simon Barrett said.

The original “Blair Witch Project” filmmakers – writer-directors Eduardo Sanchez, Daniel Myrick and producer Gregg Hale – also disregarded the failed sequel and said they are on board with the latest film as executive producers.

“The thing that we liked about this project when Lionsgate approached us, especially with Adam and Simon working on it, is that they really stuck to the original mythology,” Myrick told Reuters.

“They came at it with a very authentic approach to the film which we felt was with love for the first movie so it was all done for the right reasons.” (Reporting by Piya Sinha-Roy and Reuters TV; Editing by Bernard Orr)

  • Brie Larson Confirmed for ‘Captain Marvel’; Watch Her Comic-Con Introduction

Marvel Studios Hall H PanelRumors have been flying for weeks that Oscar winner Brie Larson would be joining the MCU as Captain Marvel, and now, the news is official, with the actress making her debut at Comic-Con to announce the casting.

Larson joined her fellow stars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe onstage during a massive panel at Comic-Con this weekend, with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige announcing her name to wild cheers from the packed Hall H crowd.

Feige later said in an interview with USA Today that the actress “knows and understands and takes to heart the importance of what this role is,” adding that Larson continues the studio’s trend of attracting big-name talent to its arsenal.

“When you start with Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, it’s a high casting bar,” Feige told USA Today. “And Brie is obviously spectacular.”

The actress got in on the excitement on social media, sharing a photo of herself wearing a Marvel hat with the caption, “Call me Captain Marvel.” Later, Larson tweeted, “I’m so excited to be part of the team.”

Larson is just the latest awesome actress to become part of the MCU ranks, as this photo shared by fellow new MCU addition Lupita Nyong’o demonstrates. Cheers to this badass crew, and here’s to the inclusion of many, many more.

  • ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Reveals First Look at New Characters in Exclusive Comic-Con Poster

Thanks to Comic-Con 2016, Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling fans got a shiny new poster for “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”

Warner Bros. revealed the exclusive one-sheet on Twitter, ahead of their Hall H panel this weekend, and the art deco-y design gives us our first look at Samantha Morton and Ezra Miller‘s characters. In the much-anticipated prequel, set in 1920’s New York, Morton plays Mary Lou, the leader of the fanatical Second Salemers. Miller plays her adopted son, Credence.
These two characters have yet to appear in any of the previously released trailers or stills, so not much is known about their roles in director David Yates‘ film, scripted by Rowling. But, according to Entertainment Weekly, Mary Lou “is a fanatical radicalist hellbent on exposing and destroying witches and wizards.”

In addition to those reveals, we get another look at Eddie Redmayne‘s Newt Scamander and, at the top of the poster, a very cool look at the seal of the Magical Congress of the U.S.A. — MACUSA for short. (Think the yankee version of the Ministry of Magic.)

“Fantastic Beasts” takes Hall H Saturday, July 3, at 11:30 PST, and the film hits theaters Nov. 18.

  • ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 7 Gets Premiere Date, First Trailer

The Walking Dead“I don’t know what the hell is going on in the most wonderful way,” Carol says in the new trailer for season 7 of “The Walking Dead.” We are all Carol after watching it.

AMC unveiled the trailer at Comic-Con, and fans likely watched it hoping for some clue on the cliffhanger that ended last season: Who is Negan going to beat to bloody death? Well, that question is not answered in the trailer, and there’s not even new footage of any of the candidates, so we can’t even rule out certain characters.
What we DO see in the trailer is a lot of Negan looking tough and bossing around his cronies. There’s also a new community called “The Kingdom” and its overlord, King Ezekiel (Khary Payton), who has a pet tiger. Yeah, “The Walking Dead” now has tigers!

Season 7 premieres Sunday, Oct. 23 at 9 p.m. on AMC.

  • ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ Comic-Con Trailer Brings on the Zombies

Fear the Walking DeadThe zombie apocalypse is in full force in the second half of “Fear the Walking Dead” season 2.

In the trailer, which AMC debuted at Comic-Con, the main characters scattered to the wind. While Madison (Kim Dickens), Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey), and Strand (Colman Domingo) seek safe shelter in a hotel, Nick (Frank Dillane) wanders on his own and runs into a violent gang. Meanwhile, Travis (Cliff Curtis) is still on the road with his psychopath of a son. The trailer also shows a change in locale, as the survivors head to Mexico.

The cast has teased some “big deaths” and deeper explorations of the characters as season 2 continues. And with the survivors splitting off from each other, we can expect them to run into new people — some of whom they’d be better off not meeting.

“Fear the Walking Dead” returns Sunday, Aug. 21 at 9 p.m. on AMC.

  • Gal Gadot Debuts New ‘Wonder Woman’ Poster at Comic-Con

wonder woman, gal gadot, poster, sdcc

We’re less than a year away from the release of “Wonder Woman,” DC’s first standalone female superhero movie, and fans now have a new image from the flick to get them excited.

Titular star Gal Gadot shared a brand new poster for the film on social media, revealing the gorgeous, strong image ahead of the movie’s Comic-Con panel. The one-sheet features the fitting tagline, “Power. Grace. Wisdom. Wonder.,” and features Gadot-as-Diana Prince silhouetted against a fiery sky.

What’s notable about the image — and what jibes with what fans have seen so far of the flick — is that Wonder Woman’s costume is much more colorful here (truer to her comic roots) than it was in March’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” in which she made her film debut. The red, blue, and yellow shine in the dramatic sunlight, a striking look that’s truly fit for an Amazonian warrior princess.

On Twitter, Gadot called the role “a dream come true,” and based on this instantly iconic imagery, it’s hard to argue with her excitement. We’ll likely learn more about the flick when the Comic-Con panel takes place on Friday. “Wonder Woman” is due in theaters on June 2, 2017. Check out the full-size image below.
