Chris Pine‘s Scottish Robert the Bruce film hits Netflix November 9.
But “Outlaw King” first premiered earlier this month at the Toronto Film Festival, and fans weren’t impressed with the 137-minute pace.
Director David Mackenzie told Deadline he “could feel what the audience was like in the theater. I’m sensitive to the way they felt.” Critics were also largely unimpressed, with some calling out the “bloated running time and narrative tedium.”
So Mackenzie went back to the editing bay and created a new cut with the audience in mind. Now the final cut is under two hours — “but it’s still very much an epic” — and he invited critics who weren’t into it the first time to give it another shot.
“I can’t understand why people get worked about that,” Mackenzie told Deadline. “I made 10 films and most of them had male frontal nudity; it’s a bathing scene and people do tend to get out of the bath without clothes.”
Bless him for equal opportunity nudity, but when a Hollywood Chris goes nude — when *Captain Kirk is in the nip* — yeah, it’s going to get attention. Apparently it got A LOT of attention. But if the other attention was on the film’s sluggish pace maybe they should be glad Chris Pine became a marketing tool.
“Outlaw King” will screen October 17 at the London Film Festival, and stream on Netflix November 9.

Melissa Joan Hart and Sean Astin are making a sitcom together at Netflix. They play parents in “No Good Nick,” a multi-camera comedy which Netflix has already given a 20-episode commitment.
And according to Melissa, the first episode show night is tonight:
According to Deadline, they play married couple Liz and Ed — described as a “hyper-competitive career mom” and “lovable but dorky ‘fun dad’” — who welcome 13-year-old Nick (Siena Agudong) into their home, only to discover that she’s a “street-smart con artist with a secret agenda.” Kalama Epstein and Lauren Lindsey Donzis co-star as Liz and Ed’s children.

Melissa Cobb, vice president of Kids and Family at Netflix, shared a statement:
“Melissa Joan Hart and Sean Astin are beloved by millions of fans around the world, and we are delighted to bring them together as parents for the very first time. We hope to entertain kids and families with heart, mystery and a lot of fun when No Good Nick comes to Netflix.”
So it’s a show aimed at kids and families — and aiming to match the success of Netflix’s “Fuller House.”
“Lord of the Rings” alum Sean Astin is no stranger to Netflix after playing Bob Newby in “Stranger Things” Season 2. Melissa Joan Hart has a long list of TV credits — from “Clarissa Explains It All” to “Melissa & Joey” — but she will always be Sabrina Spellman to “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” fans. And now that she’s part of the Netflix family, maybe she can cameo in Netflix’s “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”?
There’s no premiere date yet for “No Good Nick,” but Netflix will keep everyone posted.
“Daredevil” Season 1 premiered on Netflix in 2015. Season 2 arrived in 2016. Season 3 … skipped 2017, and it wasn’t clear until today when it would arrive.
Now we know.
And it’s soon!
Add it to the list of dark material streaming your way this October — October 19, 2018 to be exact.
“Daredevil” teased out the date reveal with two biblical posters:
It was previously announced that Vincent D’Onofrio will reprise his role as Wilson Fisk in “Daredevil” Season 3. Stream it all on Netflix in just a few weeks on Friday, October 19.
Netflix and chilling! A truly haunting version of Crosby, Stills & Nash’s “Our House” plays through the official trailer for “The Haunting of Hill House.”
If you wanted a horror fix for Halloween 2018, here it is. “Stranger Things” Season 3 isn’t coming until next summer, but this new 10-episode series arrives Friday, October 12.
Are you ready?
The dark, tense, creepy trailer is ready for you.
“On October 12th, you’re expected. ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ is a modern reimagining of the iconic novel, about 5 siblings who grew up in the most famous haunted house in America.”
Based on the 1959 novel by Shirley Jackson, this “Hill House” TV series adaptation follows the 1963 film and the 1999 film.
Netflix’s “The Haunting of Hill House” was written and directed by Mike Flanagan, who previously directed “Gerald’s Game” for Netflix, and is also directing “The Shining” sequel “Doctor Sleep.”
“The year is 1905. Thomas Richardson travels to a remote island to rescue his sister after she’s kidnapped by a mysterious religious cult demanding a ransom for her safe return. It soon becomes clear that the cult will rue the day it baited this man, as he digs deeper and deeper into the secrets and lies upon which the commune is built.”
Yeah, good luck with that, Matthew Crawley!

That is just stunning.
“Apostle” — not to be confused with the 1988 film “The Apostle,” although that was a great film — streams Friday, October 12 on Netflix.

70th Annual Emmy Awards (Monday on NBC at 8 p.m.)Television Academy
It’s TV’s biggest night! Michael Che and Colin Jost — aka “Saturday Night Live” Weekend Update co-anchors — are tag-teaming the hosting duties this Monday, Sept. 17. Yeah, it’s kind of weird to have the Emmys on a Monday, but it’s happening. Here’s the list of nominations. And check out this Emmy voter’s ballot, which is happily pro-“The Americans” winning the top honor.
“9-1-1” Season 2 Premiere (Sunday on Fox at 8 p.m.) Fox’s hit first responders show is returning for Season 2, with a two-night premiere starting this Sunday, Sept. 23 and then continuing into the following Monday, Sept. 24. Here are the details on Sunday’s Part 1:
“On one of the hottest days of the year, the first responders feel the pressure as harrowing incidents keep happening around the city, including a road rage accident involving a van full of tourists, an emergency at an auto-repair shop and a veteran with a live grenade embedded in his leg. Meanwhile, Buck gets a surprise visit from his sister, Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt). Also, Athena questions her relationship with Bobby. Then, at the fire station, handsome new hire Eddie (Ryan Guzman) jeopardizes Buck’s chances of being chosen for a fireman calendar.”
“I Feel Bad” (Wednesday on NBC at 10 p.m.) This new comedy comes from executive producer Amy Poehler. Sarayu Blue stars as Emet– “the perfect mom, boss, wife, friend, and daughter. Okay, she’s not perfect. In fact, she’s just figuring it out like the rest of us. Sure, she feels bad when she has a sexy dream about someone other than her husband, or when she pretends not to know her kids when they misbehave in public, or when she uses her staff to help solve personal problems. But that’s okay, right? Nobody can have it all and do it perfectly.”
Debates are raging in comments over the merits of the show. Some fans can’t believe Netflix would renew “Insatiable” while canceling other shows like “Everything Sucks!” “Gypsy,” “Sense8,” and even “Shadowhunters” even though “Shadowhunters” is not even a Netflix show. “Shadowhunters” fans are just that passionate and that frustrated at all the other stuff that gets to return when their show was axed by Freeform.
But as many fans have pointed out, it comes down to who watched. The cancellation petition probably backfired and got more curious rubberneckers to watch the series.
That’s how shows get renewed — it’s not impassioned tweeters, it’s eyeballs on the screen.
A chilling rendition of “Happy Birthday” plays through this first look at the new show, as Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka) celebrates her 16th b-day.
Unlike some teens, the young witch doesn’t have a Sweet 16 party — it’s more like a Scary 16 party:
Other key cast members include Jaz Sinclair as Sabrina’s best friend Rosalind Walker; Ross Lynch as Sabrina’s boyfriend Harvey Kinkle; Bronson Pinchot as Baxter High’s puritanical principal; and of course Salem the cat.
Stream the first season when it arrives on Netflix Friday, October 26.
