  • X-Men Spinoff ‘New Mutants’ May Add ‘Stranger Things’ Star Charlie Heaton: Report

Netflix FYSEE Kick-Off Event - ArrivalsThere may be more strange occurrences in Charlie Heaton‘s future.

The actor, who plays Jonathan Byers in “Stranger Things,” is in talks to join the X-Men spinoff film “New Mutants,” Variety reports. Although it doesn’t take place in Hawkins, Indiana, it will bring equally bizarre phenomena to screen. The film centers on a group of teenagers with mutant powers, including Heaton’s reported would-be character, Sam Guthrie. Nicknamed Cannonball, Sam is invulnerable when he’s in midair.

If the casting becomes official, the actor will join “Game of Thrones” star Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy of “Split,” who have already signed on. Rosario Dawson also looks likely to join and is in negotiations to take on the role of the young superheroes’ mentor, Dr. Cecilia Reyes. The film is going to be a horror flick, with a script co-written by Knate Lee and director Josh Boone, so this could get crazier than the Upside Down.

“New Mutants” is slated to hit theaters on April 13, 2018.

  • Rosario Dawson May Join X-Men Spinoff ‘New Mutants’: Report

Build Presents Rosario Dawson Discussing Her Work With The Lower Eastside Girls ClubIt sounds like Rosario Dawson is ready for another superhero project.

The actress is in talks to star in the X-Men spinoff film “New Mutants,” Variety reports. MCU fans are already very familiar with her thanks to her work as Claire Temple in multiple Marvel series for Netflix. In “New Mutants,” however, she would play Dr. Cecilia Reyes, a character who serves as a mentor for young mutants.

The film is apparently going to be a horror flick centering on teenage superheroes. The cast includes “Game of Thrones” star Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy (“Split”). Directed by Josh Boone, it is intended to be very different from other Marvel movies.

Distinct as the movie will be from the studio’s other projects, we hope to see more of Dawson in the MCU. She’s been a staple of Netflix’s Marvel series, including the most recent, “Iron Fist,” which debuted on the streamer in March. The cross-over series “The Defenders” premieres this summer.

Assuming Dawson takes the part, we’ll see her in “New Mutants” when it opens on April 13, 2018. Here’s hoping!

  • Zac Efron to Play Notorious Serial Killer Ted Bundy in New Film

2017 MTV Movie And TV Awards - ArrivalsThe descriptor “lady-killer” suddenly applies to Zac Efron in a disturbing, new way.

The “Baywatch” actor has signed on to play serial killer Ted Bundy in the upcoming indie drama “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile,” Variety reports. It will be a dark role, that’s for sure; the infamous criminal confessed to the murders of 30 women before he was executed in 1989, and the actual number may be even higher.

Efron seems like a good fit for the part. Bundy was known for being handsome and charming, in spite of the ugly acts he was capable of. We’ll see just that in the film. The story focuses on his turbulent relationship with his girlfriend Liz, a relationship that lasted years in spite of her suspicious that he might be behind the disappearances of women in areas where he lived during that time.

The original screenplay was written by Michael Werwie, and Joe Berlinger is directing the film. Principal photography for “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile” is slated to begin Oct. 9.

  • Chris Rock to Join Adam Sandler in His Next Netflix Movie, ‘The Week Of’

2013 MTV Movie Awards - ShowChris Rock and Adam Sandler are combining their comedic powers once again.

Rock is set to join Sandler in the upcoming Netflix comedy “The Week Of,” according to THR. The two funnymen will play fathers whose kids are getting married and follow the week leading up to the wedding. The script comes from Sandler and Robert Smigel, who doubles as the flick’s director.

“The Week Of” will be the fourth Netflix original movie from Sandler but not the last. The comedian originally had a four-picture deal with the streamer, and they have since gone on to renew it. Meanwhile, Rock has been working on projects for Netflix as well; he has a deal for two stand-up specials.

The two comedians have teamed up multiple times in the past, to hilarious results. Not only did they pull off some LOL-inducing sketches as “Saturday Night Live” cast members in the early ’90s, they both starred in the 2010 comedy “Grown Ups” and its 2013 sequel. Rock even made a cameo in Sandler’s most recent Netflix comedy, “Sandy Wexler.” Seeing them reunited again … well, it will feel so good.

Production is slated to being in Long Island, New York, this summer, and then “The Week Of” will premiere on Netflix in 2018.

  • Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Rampage’ Taps ‘Walking Dead’ Villain Jeffrey Dean Morgan

AMC presents 'Talking Dead Live' for the premiere of 'The Walking Dead'“Walking Dead” character, Negan, and take on a part that doesn’t involve carrying around a barbed wire-wrapped bat called Lucille.

The actor has nabbed a supporting role in “Rampage,” an upcoming film based on the 1980s arcade game, Deadline reports. The move makes him part of a star-studded ensemble cast that also includes Dwayne Johnson, Naomie Harris, Malin Akerman, and Joe Manganiello, among others.

It sounds like Morgan might get to be on the side of the good guys this time, though we’re just guessing at this point. He’ll play the swaggering Agent Russell, a member of the secret government division OGA. Plot details are still limited, but the gist of the story is that the military will have to take on three giant monsters rampaging around North America. Maybe he’ll need Lucille after all.

“Rampage” is expected to hit theaters on April 20, 2018.

  • Michael C. Hall Is Joining ‘The Crown’ Season 2 as an Iconic American Politician

Hyundai Mercury Prize 2016Michael C. Hall is taking over the Oval Office — on TV at least.

The “Dexter” vet has been cast as President John F. Kennedy in “The Crown” Season 2, THR reports. With the series heading into the 1960s, the plot will add in some drama from the opposite side of the Atlantic. Hall will play the iconic U.S. politician while Jodi Balfour portrays his wife, Jackie.

“The Crown” follows the reign of Queen Elizabeth II (Claire Foy), starting with her early days on the throne. Season 1 focused heavily on the queen’s new marriage as well as her sister’s controversial engagement. When the show returns for its sophomore season, the scandal will keep on coming. We’ll see the fallout from an illegal war in Egypt, a prime minister lose his job, and apparently, the Kennedys.

The royal family has proven exciting enough to keep us captivated on their own, but we won’t say no to the American first family when “The Crown” Season 2 arrives.

  • Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Fighting With My Family’ Adds ‘Game of Thrones’ Star Lena Headey

67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - ArrivalsThe cast of “Fighting With My Family” has just added another tough lady to the mix.

“Game of Thrones” star Lena Headey will join him in the upcoming wrestling comedy-drama. He welcomed the “brilliant/bad ass” actress to the cast via Twitter on Wednesday. She’ll star alongside Johnson, Florence Pugh, Jack Lowden, and Nick Frost.

The film is based on an actual family — that of WWE star Paige, whose real name is Saraya-Jade Bevis. The story follows her and her brother Zak as they try to make it in the WWE after previously performing in small European venues with their wrestler parents, Ricky and Julia. The project was inspired by the British TV documentary “The Wrestlers: Fighting With My Family.”

After years of ruthlessness on “Game of Thrones,” Headey should be well-prepared to take on the world of professional wrestling. Although Johnson’s announcement didn’t specify which part she’d play, our guess is that she’ll play Julia while the also recently-cast Frost will play Ricky. Pugh and Lowden are portraying Saraya and Zak, respectively.

We look forward to the fighting ahead.

  • Taraji P. Henson Signs on to Play a Hit Woman in ‘Proud Mary’

US-ENTERTAINMENT-CNN HEROES ALL-STAR TRIBUTE-ARRIVALS“Empire” to one that’s an actual killer.

The actress has boarded the upcoming thriller “Proud Mary,” Variety reports. She’ll star as a hit woman whose perspective is shaken after she meets a young boy. Apparently, he brings out her previously undiscovered maternal instincts, which we suspect will complicate her life and brutal job.

Henson is coming off the success of “Hidden Figures,” a film in which she starred as one of the African-American women who played a key role in the space race. The film has been nominated for a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and has been making a splash at the box office. Meanwhile, “Empire” has just been renewed for its fourth season.

“Proud Mary,” which was written by John Stewart Newman and Christian Swegal, still needs a director. Assuming all goes according to plan, Screen Gems aims to start production in April.

  • Woody Harrelson Officially Boards the Young Han Solo Movie

2016 Toronto International Film Festival - 'LBJ' Premiere - ArrivalsIt’s official: Woody Harrelson is headed to a galaxy far, far away.

The actor is set to join the famed Star Wars franchise with a role in the still-untitled Han Solo spinoff movie, StarWars.com reports. The announcement came from the film’s directors, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who were clearly thrilled to announce Harrelson’s involvement.

“We couldn’t be more excited to work with an artist with as much depth and range as Woody,” they said in a statement. “His ability to find both humor and pathos, often in the same role, is truly unique.”

Their enthusiasm is warranted. He comes to the project with a long and successful career that includes roles in “The Hunger Games” films, the HBO series “True Detective,” and more. On top of that, he’s “very good at ping pong,” the directors added. What’s not to like?

Sadly, the directors didn’t spill any details about the role Harrelson will play in the film, but we do know that he joins Alden Ehrenreich, who will star as young Han Solo himself, as well as Donald Glover (“Atlanta”) and Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”). The film will explore an earlier part of Han’s life, picking up with the smuggler’s story prior to the events of “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.”

The Han Solo movie is expected to open in theaters in 2018.

  • ‘Predator’ Reboot Adds ‘Moonlight’ Star Trevante Rhodes to Cast

The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences Hosts An Official Academy Screening Of MOONLIGHTKey details about Fox’s “Predator” reboot are still few and far between at this point, but one more has just been revealed: “Moonlight” star Trevante Rhodes has boarded the project.

The actor joins a cast led by Boyd Holbrook, according to Variety. Rhodes’s character will reportedly be the best friend of the one played by Holbrook. Unfortunately, that doesn’t give us much to go on in determining what that means for the plot as details are still under wraps.

Whatever his part in the reboot, Rhodes comes to the film fresh off the critical success of “Moonlight.” As the adult version of drug dealer Chiron, he pulled off a breakout performance. The drama has earned multiple Golden Globe nominations and is expected to be an Oscar contender as well. Rhodes is also slated to star in the upcoming drama “Song to Song,” starring Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara, Michael Fassbender, and Natalie Portman.

Meanwhile, “Predator” will continue the sci-fi horror film series that kicked off in 1987. Directed by Shane Black, the reboot is slated to open on Feb. 9, 2018.
