’13 Reasons Why’ Star Katherine Langford Lands Lead Role in Upcoming Netflix Series ‘Cursed’

“13 Reasons Why” gave us — and painfully took away — Katherine Langford as Hannah Baker. Now, however, the Australian actress is set to return to Netflix.

Langford has been cast in the upcoming series “Cursed,” THR reports. She’ll have a starring role as Nimue in what is described as a coming-of-age story. The series is based on Tom Wheeler’s upcoming book of the same name, which is illustrated by Frank Miller. Both Wheeler and Miller are executive producing.

“Cursed” tells a new version of the legend of King Arthur from the perspective of Nimue, according to Deadline. The teen character is destined to become the Lady of the Lake, an enchantress who plays an important role in certain King Arthur stories. In this one, she’ll confront destruction, war, and more.

As you can imagine, Langford is thrilled about her latest role. The actress shared a screenshot of the THR report about her casting via Instagram and added an enthusiastic message.

“So excited to finally announce this!” she wrote. “A total dream being asked to lead this series with such legendary creatives. Can’t wait to start.”

This is Langford’s first TV role since “13 Reasons Why.” Her character was a key figure in the first two seasons, but sadly for fans, Hannah is not coming back in Season 3. Furthermore, her “Cursed” character is described as “tragic,” a term that definitely also applies to Hannah Baker. We’re getting more of Langford, but that probably also means more tears.

“Cursed” is also being executive produced by Zetna Fuentes (“How to Get Away With Murder”). She’ll also direct the first two episodes.

So far, Netflix hasn’t announced when “Cursed” will premiere, but rest assured that you’ll see more of Langford soon.

“To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” fans were hoping star Lana Condor‘s next film would be a sequel to the Netflix rom-com, but for now, they can get excited about another project.

Condor has joined the cast of the sci-fi thriller “Warning,” Deadline reports. She and “Gotham” actor Benedict Samuel are the most recent additions to a cast that already includes James D’Arcy, Mena Massoud, Charlotte Le Bon, Laura Harrier, and Alex Pettyfer.

Details are limited at this point, but “Warning” sounds very different than “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.” The film is said to take place in a near future and involve multiple stores that weave together. Some of the themes that it explores are loneliness, the meaning of life, and death, according to Deadline. “Warning” is based on a screenplay by Agata Alexander, who is directing, as well as Rob Michaelson and Jason Kaye.

So far, we don’t know when “Warning” will be released, but we look forward to learning more about Condor’s latest project.

There’s a revolving door of guest stars on “Grey’s Anatomy,” and Alex Landi is soon to walk through it.

The actor is taking on a recurring role in Season 15, TVLine reports. Landi’s character, Dr. Nico Kim, is gay, male, and a surgeon, which is a first for the series. While there have been characters who are gay or bisexual on the show in the past, none of them have been male surgeons, according to TVLine.

So far, much of the information surrounding Landi’s role is being kept under wraps. ABC confirmed his casting to TVLine but chose not to divulge other details, such as how long he’ll be on the show. We do know, though, that Dr. Kim is one of at least two new faces at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Actor Chris Carmack will play an “ortho god” and apparently will be “bringing the sexy.”

Landi acting resume is still growing, and this is his highest-profile role to date. He previously has had roles in the TV series “Childlike” and “Bull.”

    “Grey’s Anatomy” returns Thursday, Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Season 15 will kick off with a two-hour episode.

The buzzed-about star of “Eighth Grade,” Elsie Fisher, has landed another role.

The actress will voice a character in the upcoming animated film “The Addams Family,” THR reports. She’ll provide the voice of Parker Needler, the daughter of the family nemesis, Margaux.

This isn’t 15-year-old Fisher’s first rodeo. She previously lent her voice to 2010’s “Despicable Me” and its 2013 sequel. As in those films, her upcoming role will have her working alongside big-name actors. Her voice cast mates include Bette Midler (Grandmama), Charlize Theron (Morticia Addams), Allison Janney (Margaux Needler), Oscar Isaac (Oscar Addams), Chloe Grace Moretz (Wednesday Addams), Finn Wolfhard (Pugsley Addams), and Nick Kroll (Uncle Fester).

Fisher should be able to hold her own. She garnered critical acclaim with her work in “Eighth Grade,” and she’ll have a chance to do the same in “The Addams Family.” The film was written by Matt Lieberman and is being co-directed by Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan.

Production has already begun, and the film is scheduled to be released on Oct. 18, 2019.

  • Ed Sheeran Got to ‘Kind of Learn How to Act’ in Upcoming, Still-Untitled Film

Ed Sheeran Got to ‘Kind of Learn How to Act’ in Upcoming, Still-Untitled Film

Ed Sheeran is better known as a singer than an actor, but he may one day change that.

The Grammy winner has finished filming his biggest acting role to date, the Associated Press reports. His work is part of an upcoming, still-untitled film directed by Danny Boyle and written by “Love Actually” scribe Richard Curtis. In it, Himesh Patel stars as a fictional singer-songwriter who wakes up and discovers that no one else remembers the Beatles; Sheeran gets involved in the story as he, playing himself, discovers the up-and-comer and brings him on tour.

The film is “very clever,” Sheeran told the AP, and he said it gave him the chance to “actually kind of learn how to act.” He noted that his roles in HBO’s “Game of Thrones” Season 7 and the short-lived FX historical drama series “The Bastard Executioner” were small parts, so he was really just “popping in for a day” each time.

The singer actually faced some fairly intense social media criticism after his “Game of Thrones” cameo. In the wake of it last September, he told MTV News that “no one wants to see [him] back.” Luckily, he hadn’t envisioned it as more than a one-time nice gesture for star Maisie Williams, who is a big fan of his.

His new film, though, threw him right into the deep end, it sounds like. Sheeran said he was working “like full 12-hour days” — all in the midst of his tour. It made for “a very intense two months” as he split his weeks into four days doing music-related work and three days shooting the film.

We’ll see if his hard work pays off when the film comes out in September 2019.

  • David Schwimmer Joins ‘Will & Grace’ Season 10 for Multi-Episode Arc

David Schwimmer Joins ‘Will & Grace’ Season 10 for Multi-Episode Arc

    AMC

A “Friends” revival is still just a dream we hope comes true, but in the meantime, one of the stars of the iconic sitcom will appear in the 10th season of another beloved comedy that is in the midst of its a second run.

David Schwimmer is set for a recurring role on “Will & Grace,” THR reports. The actor will appear in five episodes, according to Deadline, and he’ll play a new character that romances Grace (Debra Messing). He’s one of multiple guest stars that will pop up over the course of the show’s 10th season, so there’s a lot to look forward to.

Messing celebrated the news with a tweet Wednesday. She tagged Schwimmer and wrote that “Grace is getting a new [love] interest,” using the heart emoji in place of the word love and a slew of exclamation marks.

That’s bad news for fans still pulling for Grace and her ex-husband, Leo (Harry Connick Jr.), but at the very least, it’ll be fun to see Schwimmer on the show. It feels like early 2000s sitcom worlds are colliding, and we like it.

In addition to Schwimmer, fans will see Alec Baldwin, Chelsea Handler, and Mary McCormack on the show, so Season 10 should be an exciting one.

“Will & Grace” returns Thursday, Oct. 4 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.

Every superhero needs allies, and now Vin Diesel has a new one for “Bloodshot.”

“New Girl” alum Lamorne Morris has joined the upcoming superhero flick, Variety reports. He’s set to play scientist Wilfred Wigans, who is described as “an unlikely ally” to the film’s protagonist. He joins a cast that already includes Michael Sheen, Sam Heughan, Toby Kebbell, Eiza Gonzalez, Talulah Riley, and Alex Hernandez.

Morris’s most recent film was 2018’s “Game Night,” but he is perhaps best known for his seven-season stint on Fox’s “New Girl.” He played the hilarious Winston Bishop until the show ended earlier this year. His recent work also includes the movies “Sandy Wexler” and “Barbershop: The Next Cut.”

“Bloodshot” is based on the Valiant comic series of the same name and centers on a former soldier with superhuman abilities, such as shapeshifting, healing, and shooting nuclear energy blasts, among others. The comics were created by Kevin VanHook, Don Perlin, and Bob Layton, and the film is set to be directed by Dave Wilson. Neal H. Moritz is producing, while Dan Mintz is executive producing.

So far, Sony Pictures has not announced a release date for the film.

  • ‘Set It Up’ Star Zoey Deutch Joins Indie Flick ‘Buffaloed’

‘Set It Up’ Star Zoey Deutch Joins Indie Flick ‘Buffaloed’

    The Orchard

With the success of Netflix’s “Set It Up” behind her, Zoey Deutch already has yet another project lined up.

The actress has signed on to star in and produce the upcoming independent film “Buffaloed,” Variety reports. She’ll play Peg Dahl, a woman who gets into debt collecting as a way to deal with her own money problems. However, she ends up with a new problem when she crosses paths with a character described as Buffalo, New York’s “‘kingpin’ of debt collecting.”

The film is slated to begin shooting this month, so Deutch should have her hands full with the project soon, if not already. She’s generally been keeping busy lately; her recent work includes the films “The Disaster Artist,” “Flower,” and “The Year of Spectacular Men,” among others, and she’ll appear in the upcoming “Richard Says Goodbye.”

“Buffaloed” comes from screenwriter Brian Sacca, and Tanya Wexler is directing. Deutch produces alongside Sacca as well as Mason Novick and John Finemore of Lost City, and Jeffrey Katz and Michael Bannor MacGregor of Bold Crayons. The film’s executive producers are James Hoppe, Elizabeth Grave, Brooke Davies, Phil Quartararo, Mary Anne Waterhouse, and Kirsten Ames.

So far, “Buffaloed” doesn’t have a release date.

  • ‘Dune’ Close to Landing Timothee Chalamet as Its Star: Report

Timothee Chalamet in Call Me by Your Name
    Sony Pictures Classics

The polarizing ’80s sci-fi film “Dune” is getting a remake of sorts, and it’s hero seems to have been chosen.

Timothée Chalamet is reportedly boarding the project. The French-American actor is in late-stage talks to star as Paul Atreides in Denis Villenueve‘s take on the epic story, according to Deadline. That makes him the one to take up the baton from Kyle MacLachlan, who portrayed the character in the David Lynch-directed original.

“Dune” originally came out in 1984 and was based on Frank Herbert’s 1965 sci-fi novel of the same name about a young man fighting to maintain control of a desert planet. Although the books have had enormous success, the movie was considered a bust at the time, as SyfyWire notes. It has, however, since gotten more credit for what it accomplished given the technological context.

Villeneuve will have the benefit of today’s technology for the upcoming version of the futuristic story, and now he has quite the leading man, too. Chalamet earned an Academy Award nomination for 2017’s “Call Me by Your Name,” and he also starred in “Lady Bird,” a film nominated Best Picture last year.

So far, we don’t know much about Villeneuve’s version of “Dune,” but we’re definitely curious to see how it compares to the original.

  • ‘Black Panther’ Star Chadwick Boseman to Star in ’17 Bridges’

    Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

After making a splash in the MCU, Chadwick Boseman is ready for another role.

The “Black Panther” star has lined up a new project. Boseman is set to star in “17 Bridges” from STXfilms, Variety reports. He’ll also produce the action-thriller.

We most recently saw Boseman as a superhero, and it sounds like his “17 Bridges” character will also have a shot at saving the day. The actor reportedly plays a disgraced detective in the NYPD who is trying to redeem himself. He’ll get involved in a massive manhunt for a cop killer. The film is described by STXfilms Chairman Adam Fogelson as “a thrilling new take on the race-against-the-clock crime-drama.”

Boseman isn’t the only big name tied to the project. His “Avengers: Infinity War” directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, are producing through their banner, Agbo. STXfilms highlighted that fact, with Fogelson saying the company has “assembled a dream team of collaborators on ’17 Bridges.’”

Adam Mervis wrote the script, and Brian Kirk will direct. Logan Coles is also set to produce, while Drew Simon and Kate Vorhoff are overseeing production for STXfilms.

The movie is expected to start shooting in September, so we’ll look forward to seeing more of Boseman soon.
