  • Julia Roberts to Star in Her First TV Series, ‘Today Will Be Different’

"Money Monster" Photocall - The 69th Annual Cannes Film FestivalJulia Roberts is trying something a little different: headlining a TV series.

The Academy Award-winning actress has boarded the limited series “Today Will Be Different,” reports Variety. Based on Maria Semple’s best-selling novel of the same name, the TV adaptation will be written by the author herself. In it, Roberts will play the protagonist, Eleanor Flood, a woman who attempts to spend a day knocking items off her “to do” list, only to face unexpected obstacles.

As you’d imagine, Semple is thrilled that Roberts signed on. She described her reaction as “giddy” and predicted “a fun ride.” Roberts’ duties also include executive producing through her banner Red Om Films, alongside Semple and Annapurna Pictures’ Megan Ellison and Sue Naegle.

The series has yet to be nabbed by a network, but according to Variety sources, it will be shopped around early next year. Given that Roberts found the project tempting enough to dive into TV, we don’t think they’ll have trouble drumming up interest.

  • ‘Jurassic World’ Sequel Adds ‘The Get Down’ Star Justice Smith: Report

13th Annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards - Arrivals“The Get Down” star Justice Smith may soon be doing more screaming and running than making music.

The actor has reportedly been cast in the upcoming “Jurassic World” sequel. Sources tell Variety that he’ll join stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard in the dinosaur action flick as a young scientist. Smith’s fellow newcomers include Rafe Spall and Toby Jones.

“Jurassic World 2” has T. rex-sized shoes to fill. Its predecessor was a box office mega-hit in 2015, drawing in more than $208.8 million in its domestic debut alone, according to Box Office Mojo data. It went on to gross $1.67 billion worldwide. Clearly, everyone loves rampaging prehistoric creatures.

The sci-fi sequel will be quite a departure from Smith’s role on the Netflix music series “The Get Down,” but his past work makes us think he can handle it. The film will be directed by J.A. Bayona, who is working from a script by “Jurassic World” director Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly.

The “Jurassic World” sequel is slated for release on June 22, 2018.

  • Netflix’s ‘Seven Seconds’ Lands ‘American Crime’ Star Regina King

FYC Screening Of ABC's "American Crime" - ArrivalsIf it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

A crime drama worked for “American Crime” (just look at her Emmy win), so it’s no wonder she is sticking with the genre, at least for now. The actress is set to star in the upcoming Netflix series “Seven Seconds,” reports Variety. The show will center on the aftermath of an injury-inducing incident involving a police officer and an African-American teenage boy in Jersey City.

Tension will escalate in the community, but the incident will hit particularly close to home for King’s character. As Latrice Butler, she’ll be the mother of the injured teen, Brenton. What she learns about her son in the aftermath will shock her, not to mention affect her life and her marriage.

King’s co-stars include David Lyons, Michael Mosley, and Patrick Murney, and they’ll be directed by Veena Sud. The “Seven Seconds” premiere date has not yet been announced, but 10 episodes are on the way.

  • ‘Magic Camp’ Bewitched by Gillian Jacobs Casting

5th Annual Critics' Choice Television Awards - Show“Magic Camp” has pulled another rabbit out of its hat: The Disney comedy has cast “Community” star Gillian Jacobs.

Jacobs joins Adam DeVine (“Pitch Perfect”) and Jeffrey Tambor (“Transparent”) in the film, which centers on a retired magician (played by DeVine) who heads back to the magic camp he used to attend as a counselor in hopes of getting his career back on track. Tambor will play his mentor, camp owner Roy, while Jacobs’s will play the protagonist’s former partner

Steve Martin was originally attached to star as the mentor, according to Variety; he even wrote a previous draft of the screenplay before leaving the project. However, the most recent draft was penned by Dan Gregor and Doug Man. Mark Waters (“Mean Girls”) is attached to direct.

Jacobs comes to the project with a lot of comedy experience under her belt. She played Britta Perry on the acclaimed sitcom “Community” for six seasons and went on to star in the “Love,” which is set to return for a second season. Her credits also include the upcoming “Life of the Party,” alongside the likes of Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, and Julie Bowen.

We can’t wait to see what other tricks “Magic Camp” has up its sleeve.

  • Daniel Radcliffe to Play Drug Smuggler in ‘Beasts of Burden’

'Imperium' Premiere - 12th Zurich Film FestivalDaniel Radcliffe has locked down another role: The actor is set to star in “Beasts of Burden.”

Before you get too excited, the film is in no way connected to “Fantastic Beasts” series, which is a Harry Potter offshoot. “Beasts of Burden” is an action-thriller, and Radcliffe will play a drug smuggler. The plot centers on a drug-running pilot who comes into conflict with both the DEA and drug cartels.

Radcliffe’s role sounds like another intense one. He’ll next appear in a similarly dangerous situation in “Imperium,” as an undercover cop infiltrating a white supremacist group. The actor also recently appeared in the heist thriller “Now You See Me 2.”

“Beasts of Burden” is set to begin shooting late next month in Savannah, Georgia. Adam Hoelzel penned the script, and Jesper Ganslandt is directing. MGMT Entertainment’s Pal Schiff and Michael Diamond are producing alongside Green-Light International’s Chad Moore and Jeff Elliott.

  • ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Taps Marika Dominczyk for Season 13 Guest Role

41st Annual Gracie Awards Gala - Arrivals“Grey’s Anatomy” Season 13 is focusing on the show’s remaining original stars, but there’s still room for new characters.

“Brothers & Sisters” alum Marika Dominczk is headed to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital for a guest role on the hit medical drama, reports Variety. Her character is named Eliza Minnick, but unfortunately, that’s all we know at this point. It hasn’t been revealed when her character will first appear, for how long she’ll stick around, or — most importantly — how she’s connected to the “Grey’s Anatomy” gang.

Speculation has already begun that Eliza could be a new love interest for Arizona (Jessica Capshaw). Given that show creator Shonda Rhimes teased new romance for the doctor, it certainly seems like a possibility. However, Eliza isn’t the only potential option; Arizona’s former love interest Leah (Tessa Ferrer) is set to return, so she could be the lovely lady in question.

Whether it’s Eliza, Leah, neither, or both trying to woo Arizona, there’s definitely going to be enough drama coming in the weeks ahead for everyone to play a part in it.

“Grey’s Anatomy” airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
