  • ‘The Grinch’ Trailer Sees the Green Grump at His Grouchiest

Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who’s the Grinch-iest of them all? This guy!

The first trailer for “The Grinch,” an animated movie from the people behind the “Despicable Me” franchise, is here to ruin your Christmas good cheer. Benedict Cumberbatch voices the curmudgeonly green monster, who grumbles his way through the day.

First, he swats at his radio alarm clock because it’s playing “Happy” by Pharrell. Later, at the town grocery store, he purposely breaks a jar of jam another customer wants.

Don’t even get us started on what he does with a jar of pickles. He’s the worst! And yet, somehow so charming.

Dr. Seuss’ classic and beloved tale has been adapted into numerous movies and TV specials, the most recent of which was Ron Howard’s live-action 2000 film starring Jim Carrey as the Grinch.

Cumberbatch doesn’t get much play in the trailer, but his distinctive, deep voice seems perfect for the grouch.

“The Grinch” opens in theaters November 9, just in time for him to steal Christmas.

  • Benedict Cumberbatch to Star in New Showtime Limited Series ‘Melrose’

Marvel Studios Hall H PanelBenedict Cumberbatch is all about book-to-TV adaptations.

The “Sherlock” star is headlining “Melrose,” an upcoming miniseries that Showtime has just picked up, Deadline reports. The limited series is based on Edward St. Aubyn’s semi-autobiographical novels, which center on the fictional Patrick Melrose’s childhood and adulthood struggles and evolution. Five episodes are planned, with each corresponding to a book in the series.

While Melrose and Sherlock Holmes are both literary figures, their stories are very different. Melrose is no detective; he’s a playboy with a painful past, a history of substance abuse, and an excellent sense of humor. His stories take place in different parts of the world, including New York, London, and the south of France.

Cumberbatch is executive producing the series alongside his SunnyMarch TV partner Adam Ackland, and the two shared that they are “huge fans of these books.” They also like what they’ve seen of screenwriter David Nicholls’ adaptations — they’ve called them “extraordinary.”

We don’t know when we’ll see the series on Showtime yet, but we’re looking forward to it.

  • Benedict Cumberbatch Producing, Starring in Grieving Parent TV Drama

GEANCO Foundation's Annual Hollywood Fundraiser - ArrivalsBenedict Cumberbatch is returning to the small screen.

The actor is producing and starring in a 90-minute TV movie adapted Ian McEwan’s award-winning novel “The Child in Time,” Deadline reports. Cumberbatch is reteaming with BBC One and Masterpiece, who are also behind “Sherlock,” which recently aired its fourth season.

In “The Child in Time,” Cumberbatch will play Stephen Lewis, a successful children’s book author whose daughter goes missing. Losing their child drives a wedge between Stephen and his wife as they take diverging paths in their struggle with grief. The story is described as a “lyrical and heartbreaking exploration of love, loss and the power of things unseen.”

One of Cumberbatch’s first film roles was in the McEwan adaptation “Atonement.”

In a statement, the actor said of “The Child’s Time,” “I read the novel years ago and it stayed with me — profound, beautiful and very moving. Only Ian McEwan could write about loss with such telling honesty. We’re very excited to have Stephen Butchard’s subtle and brilliant adaptation, and in Julian Farino we have an extraordinary director who delivers emotional truth. I’m so proud ‘The Child In Time’ will be the first drama produced by SunnyMarch TV.”

  • New ‘Sherlock’ Season 4 Preview Teases Demons and Dark Secrets

“Sherlock” Season 4 continues to look dark in the series’ latest preview.

When we pick up with the adventures of Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman), expect them to be intense. The new preview, released this weekend, reinforces the message we saw in an earlier teaser — that “it’s not a game anymore.” It also takes the warning a step further. From what the 40-second video shows us, there are demons that have been lying in wait and a chilling villain, played by Toby Jones.

The preview offers interesting glimpses at the episodes to come. We see the titular detective in strange circumstances n various intriguing scenes: in front of a burning house, sprawled out on a table, and clutching a gun. Yet, after all the darkness, the trailer ends on an unexpected note: Sherlock looks straight into the camera and declares, “I love you.”

“Sherlock” premieres on PBS Masterpiece on Jan. 1.

  • ‘Sherlock’ Star Martin Freeman Teases Baby Watson: ‘Stakes Get Bigger’

    SherlockBaby on board!

When “Sherlock” returns for its fourth season on Jan. 1, a new baby will be part of Sherlock Holmes’ (Benedict Cumberbatch) life. His friend and partner, John Watson (Martin Freeman), has had a kid with wife Mary. And judging by Sherlock’s expression in the photo above, this is one thing he can’t puzzle out.

The new baby brings out some changes in Watson’s life, and therefore, Sherlock’s, Freeman told Entertainment Weekly.

“Stakes get bigger. What might have been a little bit of fun three weeks ago is now kind of serious, because you are responsible for someone else’s life,” he said.

While the friendship between the two men remains, Freeman added, “I think obviously what happens when one friend has a child and gets buddied up with somebody else then that immediately has a dynamic effect on the friendship. I don’t want to give anything away, but there are some changes afoot.”

Not only are the stakes bigger for Watson now that he has a child, more danger abounds in the form of a new villain played by Toby Jones.

“That character is maybe the most dark-hearted character that we’ve ever had, including Magnussen and Moriarty, maybe even. He’s someone who truly turns Sherlock and John’s stomachs and who they really do want to bring down. They want to take him down.”

  • Watch the New ‘Sherlock’ Season 4 Teaser: ‘It’s Not A Game Anymore’

A new case will be open soon, and “it’s not a game anymore.”

That cryptic message is the main takeaway from and the title of a new “Sherlock” Season 4 teaser trailer. The BBC dropped the short preview Wednesday in preparation for the show’s January return. Before you get your hopes up too high, though, know that the teaser keeps a tight lid on any plot points to come. As always, any hints are ridiculously hard to figure out.

At least we get a look at our favorite crime-solving duo. The teaser shows Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman) taking a moment to sit down together. Whether they’re resting or working is anyone’s guess, but it’s still nice to get a peak.
The teaser doesn’t offer much, but it will have to tide us over until the next time the BBC decides to drop us some breadcrumbs.

“Sherlock” Season 4 premieres Jan. 1 on PBS Masterpiece with the episode “The Six Thatchers.”

  • Watch Eddie Redmayne Perform Magic For Benedict Cumberbatch, Bryan Cranston

26th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala - After PartyEddie Redmayne doesn’t just play a wizard in the upcoming “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” — he can perform magic in real life, too!

In an appearance on “The Graham Norton Show,” the Oscar winner showed off his magical abilities to fellow guests Benedict Cumberbatch and Bryan Cranston. He takes an ordinary coloring book — which starts off with completely empty pages. Then, he asks Cranston (his fellow Oscar nominee last year) to blow on the book. Suddenly, it’s filled with drawings!
Oh, but Redmayne wasn’t done. Then, he asked Cumberbatch (his fellow Oscar nominee two years ago) to blow on the book. Guess the “Sherlock” and “Doctor Strange” star didn’t blow hard enough, because Redmayne was forced to take out his wand — and you’ll never believe what happened next!

The segment is totally adorable. We could watch these Oscar and Emmy winners behave like amazed kids all day.

  • ‘Doctor Strange’ Clips: Benedict Cumberbatch Gets Hit With Sorcery and Sass

Critics have already revealed that “Doctor Strange” is an extra “trippy” addition to the MCU, and thanks to two new clips, we can see for ourselves.

Both clips center on the titular character: Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), a neurosurgeon who discovers the mystic arts and trains to become the Sorcerer Supreme. As you can imagine, his course changes drastically when that happens; luckily, we get a hint of the progression through the clips.

Life look pretty normal for him in the first of the sneak peeks. We see Dr. Strange at work, where he engages in flirty banter with his co-worker Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams) and invites her to attend a speaking engagement with him. The colleagues definitely have history — in fact, she tells him that she doesn’t date co-workers because of her “Strange Policy.”
Meanwhile, the next clip features a very different encounter. Dr. Strange, now bearded and unkempt, refuses to listen when the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) tries to help him “see more.” When he continues to reject what she says, she’s forced to push back — literally — in a very, well, “trippy” way.
“Doctor Strange” opens on Nov. 4.

  • This Video of Benedict Cumberbatch Drinking Water Will Make You Thirsty

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" - European Film Premiere - Red Carpet ArrivalsBenedict Cumberbatch, aka the Internet’s Boyfriend, induces a passionate thirst in his many, many fans. Well, Cumberbabes, you’re about to get thirstier.

The actor graces the cover of Vanity Fair this month, and to accompany the main story, he filmed this little scene where he drinks and performs magic with a bottle of water. Has water ever been hotter?

Seriously, though, Cumberbatch — who stars in the upcoming Marvel superhero flick “Sherlock” — is amused and a bit bewildered by the Cumberfrenzy. Like when he’s told that a fan imagines him eating apple fritters shirtless, he said, “I don’t know, it makes me giggle. I don’t look at myself in the mirror and go, ‘Yeah, absolutely! I see what they’re saying!’ I see all my faults and everything that I’ve always seen as my faults.”

The hysteria surrounding him does trouble the actor, though, especially conspiracy theories that his marriage to stage director Sophie Hunter and their son, Kit, are PR stunts. “I think really it’s to do with the idea that the ‘Internet’s boyfriend’ can’t actually belong to anyone else but the Internet. It’s impossible he belongs to anyone but me,” he said. “And that’s what stalking is. That’s what obsessive, deluded, really scary behavior is.”

Might need to dial the Cumbermania down a few notches, people!
