  • Benedict Cumberbatch Says ‘Sherlock’ May End After Season 4

“Sherlock” fans have been waiting for what feels like forever for the show to return, and while season four will finally arrive next year, it may be the last we ever see of the modern day Sherlock and Watson.

That word comes courtesy of titular star Benedict Cumberbatch, who’s been working steadily on the big screen in recent years, landing an Oscar nomination and nabbing what’s said to be his big breakout role in the newest Marvel flick, “Doctor Strange,” due out in November. In an interview with British GQ in promotion of that latter project, Cumberbatch admitted that the new “Sherlock” episodes awaiting fans “might be the end of an era.”

“It feels like the end of an era, to be honest,” the actor continued. “It goes to a place where it will be pretty hard to follow on immediately.”

While Cumberbatch noted that “We never say never on the show,” and that he’d “love to revisit” the series some day, he acknowledged that his and his fellow “Sherlock” cast and crew members’ other commitments made it difficult to coordinate filming additional episodes. (Something fans are do doubt already familiar with, what with the notoriously-long wait between new seasons that has been the norm recently.)

” … [W]e’ve made something very complete as it is,” the actor explained to British GQ, “so I think we’ll just wait and see. The idea of never playing him again is really galling.”

Stay tuned. Season four of “Sherlock” is set to air in the U.S. sometime next year.

  • Benedict Cumberbatch Interviews Pal Tom Hiddleston Like a Fanboy

Benedict Cumberbatch Tom Hiddleston“Thank you for being a friend, Benedict Cumberbatch,” Tom Hiddleston is saying, probably.

Cumberbatch quizzed his fellow British actor and longtime friend for “The Night Manager,” and filming his movie “Kong: Skull Island.”

One thing they did NOT talk about: Taylor Swift.

“There’s another weight of us being in the public eye, which is this presumption that, because your work and your promotion work is very public, your private life should be, too,” Cumberbatch said at one point.

“And, without getting into a huge debate, I just want to say that I’m not going to ask questions about my friend’s personal life just because there are unsolicited photographs of him and a certain someone, in a relationship or together. I’m not going to get into that. So that door is closed, dear reader.”

Hiddleston chuckled in response. No doubt he also send Cumberbatch a bottle of scotch as a thank you (and for his upcoming birthday). #FriendshipGoals

  • ‘Sherlock’ Season 4 Portrait Puts Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman in Darkness

SherlockThe night is dark and full of terrors on “Sherlock.”

Season 4 of the show promises to be its darkest yet. And a recently-released portrait image of Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as John Watson indicate troubled times ahead for the partners in crime-solving.

The men are dressed in dark tones, set against a dark backround. As Sherlock peers skeptically at the camera, eyebrow quirked, Watson gazes off to the side. Maybe he’s on the lookout for some unknown danger? Or is he just he fed up with his BFF’s usual, persnickety ways?

Who knows, because the creators have revealed very little about season 4. At Comic Con, Steven Moffat did say “it is explicitly a darker season.” And that the new villain played by Toby Jones is the worst. ” This guy is the purest evil,” Moffat said. “Sherlock is actually appalled by him. He’s the most evil villain we’ve had.”

“Sherlock” season 4 is expected to air sometime in 2017.

  • ‘Doctor Strange’ Sneak Peek Goes Behind the Mystical Scenes

Doctor StrangeA new sneak peek at “Doctor Strange” provides some fresh insight into Marvel’s upcoming film.

The video is included in the “Captain America: Civil War” Blu-ray release and focuses on supporting characters Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), who teach Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) in their magical ways.

The video also introduces villainous leader Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen). There are glimpses of the stars filming scenes and flashes of some psychedelic concept art, but very little in the way of new footage, beyond what was in the first trailer.
Still, though we don’t get to see much, it’s exciting to check out the immense talent they’ve rounded up for the movie. Swinton raving about the Ancient One’s use of “real, proper magic” might soothe some fans who were angered by her casting.

“Doctor Strange” also stars Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Benjamin Bratt, and opens in theaters November 4.

  • ‘Sherlock’ Has a New Best Friend in First Photo From Season 4

SherlockSherlock may have solved the case of the “Hounds of Baskerville,” but there’s a new hound on the scene to confound him.

BBC One shared the first photo from “Sherlock” season 4 on Twitter, and it shows Sherlock with a new four-legged friend. Watson had better watch out.

The dog is a blood hound, and Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) appears to be pointing at something for the dog to see or chase down. Watson (Martin Freeman) is not pictured.

The first look comes just a day after the Christmas special “Sherlock: The Abominable Bride” nabbed six Emmy nominations, including one for TV movie and one for Cumberbatch as lead actor in a limited series.

Not much is known about season 4. It’ll run three episodes, as usual. Toby Jones has joined the cast as a new villain, and there’s been speculation that Watson and Mary will contend with parenthood.

Co-creator Steven Moffat teased, “Ghosts of the past are rising in the lives of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson and terror and tragedy are looming. This is the story we’ve been telling from the beginning and it’s about to reach its climax.”
