  • Amy Schumer Responds to Critics of Her Grammy Nods & ‘Barbie’ Casting

Amy Schumer feels sorry for the trolls out there “who are in more pain than we will ever understand.” She also thanked them for making it clear with their comments that she was a good choice for her two Grammy nominations and new “Barbie” movie.

Yep, she’s going for a Kill Them With Patronizing Kindness approach!

Schumer is a magnet for both praise and criticism, but like many people on social media, she tends to have the strongest reaction to the criticism. She was just nominated for two Grammys — one for Best Spoken Word album for “The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo,” and the other for Best Comedy Album for “Live At the Apollo” — and she’s currently in talks to play the lead and co-write the script for a live-action “Barbie” movie.

In an inspiring new Instagram post, she thanked her supporters for their positive responses, and dismissed the “trolls” who insist on letting her know that they don’t think she’s attractive or funny:

A photo posted by @amyschumer on

“Very very honored to be nominated for 2 Grammys and to be considered to play an important and evolving icon. Is it fat shaming if you know you’re not fat and have zero shame in your game? I don’t think so. I am strong and proud of how I live my life and say what I mean and fight for what I believe in and I have a blast doing it with the people I love. Where’s the shame? It’s not there. It’s an illusion. When I look in the mirror I know who I am. Im a great friend, sister, daughter and girlfriend. I’m a badass comic headlining arenas all over the world and making tv and movies and writing books where I lay it all out there and I’m fearless like you can be. Thanks to everyone for the kind words and support and again my deepest sympathy goes out to the trolls who are in more pain than we will ever understand. I want to thank them for making it so evident that I am a great choice. It’s that kind of response that let’s you know something’s wrong with our culture and we all need to work together to change it. Anyone who has ever been bullied or felt bad about yourself I am out there fighting for you, for us. And I want you to fight for yourself too! We need to laugh at the haters and sympathize with them. They can scream as loud as they want. We can’t hear them because we are getting sh*t done. I am proud to lead by example. ‘I say if I’m beautiful, I say if I’m strong. You will not determine my story. I will’ #thegirlwiththelowerbacktattoo”

Her post has earned a lot of positive feedback, so hopefully she sees that her fans have her back and appreciate that she is leading by example. No one should be holding out for universal popularity — heck, even Betty White probably has a “hater” out there — and some criticism is worth considering for its merits. But, you should never let it crowd out the praise.

  • Amy Schumer in Talks to Star in and Co-Write ‘Barbie’ Movie

People<a href=Amy Schumer might be a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world.

The comedian and actress is in talks to star in and co-write the script of Sony’s live-action “Barbie” movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie is described as a “a contemporary spin on beauty, feminism and identity.”

Sony and Mattel have been developing the project for some time. Last year, they hired three writers to turn in scripts, and ended up choosing Hilary Winston’s. Schumer and sister Kim Caramele are expected to rewrite it. A director has yet to be hired.

The story begins with a woman in a land of perfect Barbies who realizes she doesn’t fit in. She journeys to the real world, where she finds being unique is an asset. Schumer’s casting seems to indicate Mattel wants to shake up Barbie’s image of stick-thin beauty.

  • Amy Schumer Clarifies the Status of ‘Inside Amy Schumer’

What happened to “Inside Amy Schumer”? As it happens, just a major delay for “the next year at least” so Amy Schumer can tour. But for a minute there it looked like the show had been cancelled/unrenewed.

In January, Comedy Central picked up the series for Season 5, a few months before the premiere of Season 4. At the time, Schumer said in a statement, “We are so excited to get picked up. I’ve gotten picked up many times, but this time feels the best.”

But the funny quips stopped this past week, amid controversy with one of the show’s former writers, Kurt Metzger. He’s a friend of Schumer’s, credited with writing several episodes of her show. He posted a note on Facebook in response to the Upright Citizens Brigade allegedly banning comedian Aaron Glaser when he was accused of sexual assault. You can get a full rundown at Variety, the takeaway is that Schumer tweeted that she was “saddened and disappointed” in her friend Kurt, but added that he does not work for her, which initially left some “Inside” viewers confused.

That was a surprise. She also retweeted this note from a fan who said she’d miss the show:

That got the Internet speculating that the show was cancelled, so Amy returned to Twitter on Thursday morning to clarify:

Comedy Central has yet to release any kind of statement on “Inside Amy Schumer,” but chances are good that, if/when Season 5 premieres, Kurt Metzger won’t be on the writing staff.

  • Amy Schumer Had the Perfect Response to Her ‘Gilmore Girls’ Shout-Out

We’re still freaking out over Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life,” which dropped yesterday afternoon and featured a reunited Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Rory (Alexis Bledel) snacking on Pop Tarts and chatting about pop culture as if they’d never left us. And now, one of the subjects of their conversation has responded to the shout-out.

In the clip, Lorelai wonders aloud whether or not Amy Schumer would like her. Rory responds that Schumer probably wouldn’t, since the comedian is always photographed enjoying “watersports,” a.k.a. jetskiing and other in-the-water activities (like on her high-profile vacation with new pal Jennifer Lawrence last summer).

Vulture tweeted about the trailer, and Schumer replied to the site’s post, saying, “I would love her!” in reference to Lorelai’s query. She followed up with another tweet, clarifying that pics of her hitting the waves are very much an exaggerated view of her preferred vacationing activities.

“I’ve only done 2 water sports and they took pictures of it both times,” Schumer tweeted. “I promise I usually just lay there (sex too).”

It’s comforting to know that celebrities are just as excited as we are for the return of “Gilmore.” Now we just have to make it through the interminable wait before it debuts.

“Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” finally hits Netflix on November 25.

  • 5 Best Comedy Roasts of All Time

Comedy Central Roast Of Donald Trump - ShowIf Betty White has taught us anything, it’s that being old doesn’t mean you’re not hilarious. It also doesn’t mean you’re not really, really vulgar when the battlefield of comedy needs you to drop some serious F-bombs.

By entertainment standards, the roast — a concept originated by the Friar’s Club fraternity way back in 1907 — is an absolute dinosaur. But it’s like a T. rex that assaults you with politically incorrect character assassination and ridiculous celebrity humiliation instead of killer jaws and tiny arms — old as it is, the roast walks the razor’s edge of “too funny” and “too far.” Here are five times the comics got that balance exactly right.

    1. Charlie Sheen (2011)

“I respect Charlie Sheen, I do … not his body of work … it’s all been very Christian Slater-ish … he sucks, but he’s good, but he sucks at the same time.” And so it was that the late Patrice O’Neal immortalized Charlie Sheen at his own 2011 Comedy Central roast. The whole night was lightning in a weird bottle, mixed with tiger’s blood and Twitter meltdowns, and shaken till it foamed over. “How do you roast a meltdown?,” asked Jeff Ross. You do it just like this: A madman who set his own world afire giggles along as the sharpest comics in the industry point and laugh at the blaze.

As a bonus, this one helped put the brilliant Amy Schumer on the map. We’ll take that.

    2. Joan Rivers (2009)

The late, legendary Joan Rivers was made to be roasted on Comedy Central. She had the perfect combo of comedic icon status paired with plenty of ammo for her roasters, from her famously numerous plastic surgeries to her cringe-worthy red carpet interviews.

“Joan, I loved you in The Wrestler.” With that intro, Whitney Cummings summed up what made Joan’s roast the perfect dish — the veteran comedienne’s night in the chair not only cemented her well-earned relevance, it shined the world’s spotlight on new talent. Even though most of that spotlight was focused on jokes about Joan’s vagina.

    3. Hugh Hefner (2001)

Hef’s New York Friar’s Club roast could’ve been a disaster. The nation was still reeling from 9/11, and the minefield of cliched old-man jokes just seemed too obvious. But thanks to the power of comics like Drew Carey and Sarah Silverman, it turned out to be the cream of the roast crop. Carey started out with a cathartic string of mega-profanity aimed at none other than Osama bin Laden, priming the audience for a combo of airhead-Playboy Bunny gags and old-age digs that moved at a clip and somehow managed to avoid any semblance of cliche. Silverman solidified the one-two punch with a short set centered on — wait for it — butthole waxing that was so left-field, it was clear she’d be a comedy queen by the time the roast ended.

    4. William Shatner (2006)

Sometimes, it’s the truth behind the jokes that makes a roast truly great. And it’s that dose of reality that made Star Trek” co-stars like George Takei and Nichelle Nichols certainly had enough USS Enterprise drama to load their comedic cannons, completely apart from the former Captain’s bizarre forays into spoken word albums and TV commercials. When Takei looks right at Bill and straight-up says, “Fuck you and the horse you rode in on” in that outrageous baritone of his, we laugh, because we know it comes from a place of truth. Feels good to let it all out, doesn’t it, Mr. Sulu?

    5. Donald Trump (2011)

We’ll admit it. The thing that makes Donald Trump’s Comedy Central roast so great is that it’s a catharsis for the audience — in 2011, we loved seeing the uber-rich, business tycoon get his just deserts, and in 2016, we love seeing it even more.

But it wasn’t just seeing Trump get towered that made the night a standout — it was the evening’s completely unexpected roasters. A Marlee Matlin / Gilbert Gottfried double-team isn’t something we knew we wanted till we got it, and Snoop Lion (aka Snoop Dogg) once again proved his comedic prowess with razor-sharp jabs like, “Donald says he wants to run for president and move on into the White House. Why not? It wouldn’t be the first time he pushed a black family out of their home.”

    Enough said, Snoop. Enough said.

  • Amy Schumer Lashes Out at Glamour for Putting Her in ‘Plus Size’ Issue

US-ENTERTAINMENT-CINEMA-CRITICS-CHOICE-AWARDSAmy Schumer picked up a copy of Glamour and saw she was in the magazine — which may sound good in theory, but it was apparently dedicated to “plus size” women, and she was not happy to be included. Why? Because of her own size, and the message she feels it sends to other women and girls.

The “Trainwreck” and Comedy Central star shared an Instagram post on the subject, which was met with some interesting comments, some agreeing with her point and others challenging it.

Here’s what she wrote, with a photo of the magazine cover:

“I think there’s nothing wrong with being plus size. Beautiful healthy women. Plus size is considered size 16 in America. I go between a size 6 and an 8. @glamourmag put me in their plus size only issue without asking or letting me know and it doesn’t feel right to me. Young girls seeing my body type thinking that is plus size? What are your thoughts? Mine are not cool glamour not glamourous”

Here are some of the comments:

ariewoo You’re feelings are totally validated and for those that keep saying why do you care if there’s nothing wrong with being plus sized, If Glamour had a “great personalities” issue and featured less attractive celebrities, wouldn’t it be natural be angered and hurt by that? We are constantly being judged on the superficial, it’s only human to feel upset by being labeled, especially when they are calling you plus sized when clearly you are not.

auntietretre Size 6/8 is NOT plus sized! Although I can see why they would want to include you, for having such a positive body image but it was not appropriate for their topic of plus sized. You’re right, if that is portrayed as plus-what do the poor young women interpret that as?!?

mikebreslin815 Why do you ladies even tolerate the whole size thing? I mean, as a guy, I am measured by tangible things – waist, height, etc.

mrscrotty Plus size issue? Yikes! Should’ve just called it “woman who don’t fit our rigid mould” issue. Sigh. I guess they thought saying “women who inspire us” would soften the reference to their body weight. Weight should not define anyone.

brittney_king_ I’m a size 10 and would kill to be a 6. I still am not plus size so you most definitely are not! It’s like they’re saying if you’re not a size 2 you’re plus size. That’s absurd. You shouldn’t be in that magizene.

However, here’s a good point from someone taking issue with this entire argument:

allisonmkirk Amy’s reaction to being included in the special issue and the many many comments in this feed that support her reaction, or that are flat out shaming her are proof that being considered “plus size” either by intention or association, is very much an insult to a lot of American women. As a self-identified, plus size women (for lack of a better term), I find this very depressing. It’s like saying I love and admire my fat friend, but I would never want to be her.

Yes. But however people feel about the term “plus size” or Amy’ inclusion, she returned to social media to thank fans for (some of) their feedback:

After Amy’s posts, Glamour Editor-in-Chef Cindi Leive tweeted an apology/clarification:

“We love Amy Schumer, & would never want to offend her. To be clear, @glamourmag special edition never called her plus-size. Her 2015 cover story was included in the edition, aimed at sizes 12 and up, with the coverline “Women who Inspire Us” bc…her longtime message of body positivity—& talking back to body haters—IS inspiring. (To me, too!) To be clear, size 6-8 is not plus. (Even size 12—frequent size of “plus” models—is smaller than average American woman!). But women of all sizes can be inspired by one another’s words. So sorry if implication was otherwise, Amy.”

  • ‘Inside Amy Schumer’ Season 4 Promo Spoils Jon Snow’s ‘Game of Thrones’ Fate

inside amy schumer, amy schumer, season 4, promo, game of thrones, jon snowOne of the most beloved shows on cable is returning later next month, and whether you immediately thought of either “Game of Thrones” or “Inside Amy Schumer” will reveal whether or not you will enjoy the semi-spoilery joke at the heart of the new “Schumer” season four promo.

The clip features Amy Schumer in her best “Thrones” garb, riding a horse and proclaiming that she knows what happens to Jon Snow, the character who may or may not have been killed off on the HBO fantasy series. (And if you’re at all a spoiler-phobe concerning “Thrones” news, you may want to stop reading now in case the comedienne’s pronouncement is actually true.)

“No spoilers, but Jon Snow is definitely alive,” Schumer says, “’cause he said no to doing our show.”

We’d say that promising that Kit Harington won’t show up on “Inside” could be considered a spoiler anyway (after his surprisingly hilarious turn in HBO mockumentary “7 Days in Hell,” we think he’d be a perfect fit for the sketch series), but that’s a minor quibble. Hopefully “Thrones” fans don’t read too much into it.

Season four of “Inside Amy Schumer” premieres on Comedy Central on April 21.

  • Amy Schumer’s Book Gets August Release Date

The 21st Annual Critics' Choice Awards - ArrivalsAfter news broke last fall that Amy Schumer scored a huge advance for a book deal, fans have been waiting for word on when the tome would actually hit shelves. Now, the book has an official title and an official release date, and we are officially excited.

Schumer revealed the news on social media this week that the book, dubbed “The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo,” will be released on August 16. She teased the title on Twitter with the double-entendre quip, “If you write it, they will come,” and previewed the book’s cover on her Instagram account.

    Yay! Book!

A photo posted by @amyschumer on

The official blurb on the comedian’s site says “Lower Back Tattoo,” a collection of comedic essays, “will feature personal and observational stories from Schumer that range from the raunchy to the romantic, the heartfelt to the harrowing.” Publisher Jennifer Bergstrom, of Gallery Books (an imprint of Simon & Schuster), praised Schumer in a statement, saying, “Amy Schumer is not an entertainer who can actually write. She’s a writer. Who also happens to entertain.”

We can’t wait. “The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo” is currently available for pre-order through Schumer’s website.

  • Goldie Hawn May Play Amy Schumer’s Mom in Vacation Comedy

2015 Glamour Women Of The Year Awards - BackstageTwo comedy giants may be joining forces: Goldie Hawn is reportedly in talks to play Amy Schumer’s mom in an upcoming mother-daughter vacation comedy.

Vulture reporter Kyle Buchanan was the first to break the news that Hawn was circling the role, which would be her first since way back in 2002, when she co-starred with Susan Sarandon in “The Banger Sisters.” Since then, Hawn has been in semi-retirement, so landing her for the Schumer project would be a major coup.

According to TheWrap, the flick in question is an untitled project from director Jonathan Levine (“50/50,” “Warm Bodies,” “The Night Before”), produced by hitmaker Paul Feig and written by frequent Feig collaborator Katie Dippold (“The Heat,” “Spy,” this summer’s “Ghostbusters”). It’s based on Dippold’s relationship with her own mother, per TheWrap, and centers around “a family vacation gone wrong.”

So far Hawn’s involvement has not been confirmed by studio 20th Century Fox, but we’re hoping this is one rumor that pans out. Pairing Schumer with Hawn would be a brilliant bit of casting, and we’re excited to (hopefully) see them face off against each other.

    Stay tuned.

  • Feel the Beer With Amy Schumer and Seth Rogen’s ‘Bud Light Party’ Super Bowl Ad

America has seen the light, and there’s a “Bud” in front of it! You may have seen Bud Light’s teaser last week, featuring Amy Schumer and Seth Rogen and the promise that “The 2016 Bud Light Party is Coming.” It came today — with a really big caucus — in the official “Bud Light Party: Super Bowl Commercial 2016.”

The one-minute ad shows Schumer and Rogen stumping around the country, promoting Paul Rudd and beer as the nations great unifiers. Rudd himself is showcased in the ad, as is Michael Pena, who declares himself “really inspired” after Rogen ends his speech with quotes from “Independence Day.”

Amy Schumer: “My fellow Americans, they say we’re a nation divided. They say we disagree on everything.”

Seth Rogen: “That’s not true. We agree on a lot.”

Schumer: “Like Paul Rudd. Everybody loves Paul Rudd.”

(Rudd, at a Lakers game: “I didn’t know that was going to happen!”)

Rogen: “You know what else everyone loves? … Beer!”

Schumer: “That’s why we’re forming the Bud Light party. Just wait till you see our caucus.”

Rogen: “We’ve got the biggest caucus in the country!”

Schumer: “But it’s not, like, TOO big. You can handle it.”

    Heh. Here’s the full commercial:

Obviously, a lot more Super Bowl commercials will be coming with the game this Sunday, February 7, but what do you think of this one? Does this campaign have your vote?
