    • The first look at Netflix’s crime novel adaptation ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ has landed.
    • Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren and Ben Kingsley lead the cast.
    • The movie hits Netflix on 28th August.

We’ve known for around a year now that Netflix and Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of the popular ‘Thursday Murder Club’ series by TV host/producer-turned-author Richard Osman is on the way, ever since the film announced casting with Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie landing the lead roles.

    s9q2deZnwTHZAtRmWmG6c5

That’s quite a murderer’s row of casting –– pun entirely intended, since the book and resulting film will fall cleanly into the cozy murder mystery genre that the UK does so well –– and cements the latest big move for Osman, whose novel series has been a massive bestseller.

With Chris Columbus calling the shots, we now have the first look at the movie, and particularly the leads in the middle of their latest case. And if this one is a success, we can surely expect more.

Other books in the series include ‘The Man Who Died Twice,’ ‘The Bullet That Missed,’ and ‘The Last Devil to Die,’ as well as the newest installment ‘The Impossible Fortune,’ which is released later this year.

Here’s Osman’s statement on his inspiration for the stories –– spending time at his own mother’s retirement home:

“You just sit and chat with these people and they’ve lived these extraordinary lives. You hear these amazing stories and gossip and wisdom. You think, ‘These people are so overlooked.’ The idea that these people with their wisdom and their invisibility would be the perfect people to solve a crime is exactly where ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ comes from. Take these people who are underestimated but who have these incredible skills, put them together, and they can achieve anything.”

What’s the story of ‘The Thursday Murder Club’?

Osman’s book, the first in a series follows four irrepressible retirees –– Elizabeth (Mirren), Ron (Brosnan), Ibrahim (Kingsley) and Joyce (Imrie) –– who spend their time solving cold case murders for fun.

When an unexplained death occurs on their own doorstep, their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn as they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands.

And this is no ordinary group of retirees –– they all bring a particular set of skills to the table. Mirren’s Elizabeth is a former spy, Kingsley’s Ibrahim worked as a psychiatrist, Brosnan’s Ron spend his days as a union activist and Imrie’s Joyce was a nurse.

Here’s what Columbus said about that main cast:

“This is the finest cast I’ve worked with since ‘Potter.’ They’re just so incredibly well-prepared, and it’s because they do everything. They do theater, they do television, they do film, and they’ve developed those sorts of muscles.”

Osman sold the rights to Spielberg’s Amblin company in 2020, shortly after the first book became a hit, and development quietly proceeded along.

So, who did the company chose to adapt a popular series of novels set in the UK it hopes will spawn a successful franchise (and has form working with Spielberg)? That would be Columbus, who helped kick off the gigantic ‘Harry Potter’ film series!

With Osman aboard as an executive producer, production happened last year and the first trailer should be on the way before we know it.

And though the concept might seem more niche than the adventures of a boy wizard, the casting will certainly help push the idea here and beyond.

While it originally looked like Columbus would pull double duty and also write the script, the adaptation instead come courtesy of actor and ‘Good Luck to You, Leo Grande’ writer Katy Brand and Suzanne Heathcote, whose credits include ‘Fear the Walking Dead,’ Apple TV+ series ‘The Crowded Room’ and a season of ‘Killing Eve.’

Who else is appearing in ‘The Thursday Murder Club’?

Beyond that starry main cast, we also have the likes of Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, David Tennant, Paul Freeman, Geoff Bell, Richard E. Grant and Ingrid Oliver.

And we have a few character details for some of those…

Ackie is Donna De Freitas, a local police officer and good friend to the Club’s members.

Jonathan Pryce plays Stephen, husband to Mirren’s Elizabeth.

Tom Ellis will be as Jason Ritchie, Ron’s (Brosnan) son and a retired boxer.

Sarah Niles has the role of Patrice De Freitas, Donna’s mother.

Ingrid Oliver will be Joanna Meadowcroft, Joyce’s (Imrie) daughter.

When will ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ be on Netflix.

Along with the first look photos, Netflix has announced that the movie will head to its servers on August 28th.

    • The first image of HBO series ‘Lanterns’ is online.
    • This new series adapts the ‘Green Lantern’ DC Comics, but in grounded fashion.
    • Leads Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler feature in this initial look.

The ‘Green Lantern’ comics are famously the story of a human drawn into a mighty, galaxy-spanning force who use rings with the power to conjure up all manner of creations in their fight for justice.

You might be surprised then, to learn that the latest small screen incarnation of the story has an initial promotional image featuring two men walking down a dusty road somewhere in America.

Yet if you’ve been following the production history of new HBO/DC Studios series ‘Lanterns,’ you probably won’t be shocked, since the show is designed to be a more grounded take on the story.

    TTnEJuPqjhfJlD4RHwA8l2

Here’s Chris Mundy, executive producer and showrunner on the tone for the show:

“From the start, our driving force has been to deliver a layered drama –– rooted in nuanced storytelling and rich world building –– that balances tension and mystery with honest, authentic emotion. The goal is to create something that feels timeless and grounded without sacrificing the magic of the source material.”

Let’s not also forget that the cameras have only just started rolling on the show, and even if (more likely when) the characters get to use their powers in service of the mystery, those visual effects take time to bring to screen, even for a still image.

And now we know what stars Aaron Pierre (who recently led ‘Rebel Ridge’) and ‘Friday Night Lights’ actor Kyle Chandler look like when they’re not clad in green or dishing out jewelry-based justice.

What’s the story of ‘Green Lantern’ in comics form?

Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps from DC Comics. Photo: DC Comics.
Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps from DC Comics. Photo: DC Comics.

Created in its first incarnation (a Lantern named Alan Scott) in 1940 by Martin Nodell and Bill Finger, the concept of the ‘Green Lantern’ comics is that of a super-powered, police force, battling evil doers with rings that allow them to channel energy into different forms. There are many Lanterns, who patrol the known and unknown universe.

‘Green Lantern’s history on screen has been seriously mixed. Though different takes on the character have flourished in animated movies and series, their live-action counterparts have had less luck. Ryan Reynolds played the Hal Jordan version in a 2011 movie that didn’t triumph at the box office, and there have been fleeting glimpses on the small screen.

Even Zack Snyder didn’t manage to realize his chosen Lantern –– John Stewart –– in his mammoth Snyder Cut of ‘Justice League’. Despite shooting a cameo with Wayne T. Carr as Stewart, Warners asked him to remove the character because of the studio’s own plans. In the end, Snyder swapped in Martian Manhunter.

James Gunn and the cast of 'Superman.'
(Center) James Gunn and the cast of ‘Superman.’ Photo: James Gunn’s Instagram Account.

James Gunn has Nathan Fillion playing the Guy Gardner incarnation in his ‘Superman’ movie, which lands on July 11th.

And the show had been in development before Gunn and Safran made their big DC Studios announcement. Back in 2020, ‘Pride and Prejudice and ZombiesSeth Grahame-Smith hopped aboard to write and run what HBO Max (as the streaming service was then called) was picturing its most expensive series to date, a space-set ‘Green Lantern’ drama whose focus would be the Alan Scott and Guy Gardner iterations of the character among the first and most popular versions.

‘Lanterns’ will follow the Hal Jordan (Chandler) and John Stewart (Pierre) characters, as new recruit Stewart and Lantern legend Jordan are described in the latest official synopsis as “two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”

So, think ‘True Detective’ meets ‘Green Lantern’. But comic book fans may recognize the basic story from the popular 1970’s arc ‘Hard Traveling Heroes’, which focused on Hal Jordan and his friend Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) traveling across America . Stewart was also featured in that story, and the producers are likely swapping out Queen for Pierre’s character.

But there will be some powerful antagonism involved, as Ulrich Thomsen is playing Sinestro a former Green Lantern who turned rogue and is described as ruthless yet charming.

His manipulative nature drives his enduring obsession with his former mentee, Hal Jordan. The character was created by John Broome and Gil Kane and first appeared in the comic book “Green Lantern, Volume 2, #56” released in 1961.

The cast also includes ‘No Country for Old Men’s Kelly Macdonald, ’12 Years a Slave’ actor Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan (who appeared in (‘The Night Of’), and the aforementioned Thomsen.

    Who is working on ‘Lanterns’?

Mundy, whose resume includes stints on Netflix’s ‘Ozark’ and HBO’s ‘True Detective: Night Country’, is running the new series, working alongside ‘Watchmen’s Damon Lindelof and DC comics writer Tom King (whose ‘Supergirl’ comic is the basis for the new movie featuring the character).

And James Hawes, who has worked on series including ‘Black Mirror’ ‘Snowpiercer’ and Season 1 of ‘Slow Horses,’ will direct the first two episodes.

He’s not alone –– ‘Watchmen’ veteran Stephen Williams, ‘Under the Bridge’s Geeta Vasant Patel, and former ‘Ozark’ director Alik Sakharov are also handling episodes.

Since they oversee the whole DC Studios arm, filmmaker Gunn and producer Peter Safran are executive producers alongside Ron Schmidt.

When will ‘Lanterns’ be on screens?

We’re still waiting to learn when HBO will premiere the show, though it is reportedly targeting an early 2026 launch.

All together now, let us recite the freshly amended Lantern Corps oath… “In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil’s might beware my power…Green Lantern’s light! On Earth. Probably in a diner.”

    • The first images of ‘The Accountant 2’ are online.
    • Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal and J.K. Simmons are among the stars.
    • Gavin O’Connor returned to direct this one.

Back in 2016, Ben Affleck starred in action crime drama ‘The Accountant,’ which saw him as Christian Wolff, a math savant with more affinity for numbers than people.

Behind the cover of a small-town CPA office, he worked as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations.

But when the Treasury Department’s Crime Enforcement Division, run by Ray King (J.K. Simmons), starts to close in, Christian takes on a legitimate client: a state-of-the-art robotics company where an accounting clerk (Anna Kendrick) has discovered a discrepancy involving millions of dollars. But as Christian uncooks the books and gets closer to the truth, it is the body count that starts to rise…

Directed by Gavin O’Connor from a script by Bill Dubuque, it was a hit, generating more than $155 million from a $44 million budget.

    KgBZQBzXCBFbgEXff1CTi7

It’s perhaps a little surprising then, that it has taken this long for ‘The Accountant 2‘ to arrive, though there are numerous factors at play, including the decline in such mid-budget (at least for Hollywood) movies over the years, the star and director’s busy schedules and the fact that Warner Bros. isn’t as involved this time (though the studio is still listed as a production company and is distributing the film outside the States).

Here’s what O’Connor had to say to Vanity Fair about his eight years trying to get the sequel made:

“It was brutal. It just felt like this flower that was ready to bloom, and then it would stop again and start again. It was so frustrating. It was very important to me to make an exuberant, entertaining movie. I wanted to make an emotional film and also not just an action movie, which I would find wildly boring and uninteresting. An action movie that dealt with human connection and love was something that I really wanted to explore.”

Yet arrive it has –– or will in a couple of months following a world premiere debut at this year’s SXSW Film Festival –– and to prove it, the first images of Affleck and the rest of the cast are now online.

When an old acquaintance is murdered, leaving behind a cryptic message to “find the accountant,” Wolff is compelled to solve the case.

Realizing more extreme measures are necessary, Wolff recruits his estranged and highly lethal brother, Brax (Jon Bernthal), to help. In partnership with U.S. Treasury Deputy Director Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), they uncover a deadly conspiracy, becoming targets of a ruthless network of killers who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried…

The cast for the new movie includes the returning likes of Addai-Robinson, Simmons and Bernthal plus new recruits including ‘Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom’s Daniella Pineda, as well as Allison Robertson.

Here’s Affleck on the enduring appeal of the original film:

“It was a movie that I found that I would hear about from people. It was a movie that stuck around, that people would talk about and say, ‘Oh, hey, I like ‘The Accountant.’ And there seemed to be a lot of goodwill towards it.”

In regard to his character, Christian Wolff, Affleck had this to say:

“This is a guy who wants to have a relationship. He wants to have friends. He’s good at some things and good at others. And I thought that the kind of vulnerability and honesty of that was kind of an interesting risk to take.”

And this is what Bernthal thinks of his character, Brax:

“Underneath it all, I think especially with Braxton, is just this unbelievable yearning to have his brother in his life and this unbelievable loneliness that he’s been trying to fill with all these very empty ways.”

Finally, here’s Addai-Robinson on her return as Marybeth:

“I was always hopeful that I would get to revisit this story and see how Marybeth was doing these days. I was very excited to finally get the call that we were getting the band back together.”

Could there be a third movie?

While all involved certainly want to reunite, we’ll likely have to wait and see how this one performs first.

    Here’s O’Connor:

“I have a lot of thoughts about what to do with the third. I’ve been thinking about it for a lot of years.”

While Affleck strikes a more cautionary note:

“I’m keenly aware of the fact that you kind of have to earn another movie. The worst pitfall is to store a bunch of your good ideas for the next installment. If you don’t create an interest demand the first time out there, you’re just going to be playing that to an empty house.”

When will ‘The Accountant 2’ be in theaters?

The ‘Accountant’ sequel is currently targeting an April 25th release in cinemas, something of a rarity for Amazon MGM studios projects.

    • He’s playing a former President who must investigate a cyber-attack.
    • Eric Newman and Noah Oppenheim created the show, with Lesli Linka Glatter directing.

While movie icon Robert De Niro has certainly guested on his fair share of TV series (‘30 Rock,’ ‘Extras’) and more recently had a bigger role in Argentinian miniseries ‘Nada,’ he’s better known for producing a variety of shows.

But with ‘Zero Day,’ a new Netflix thriller series, he’s stepping up to star in his first Stateside show, agreeing to both lead and serve as an executive producer on the show.

    VJXaY1ltAWlRduERCZmfw2

Created by Eric Newman (who has produced a metric ton of movies and shows and worked on the likes of ‘Griselda’ and the ‘Narcos’ series for Netflix), Noah Oppenheim (who swapped a career in TV news to work on shows and movies) and Pulitzer Prize winner Michael S. Schmidt, it tracks the aftermath of a devastating attack on the United States, and the man leading the investigation into what was really behind it.

Lesli Linka Glatter, a veteran of series such as ‘Homeland,’ ‘Mad Men’ and ‘True Blood’ directed all six episodes.

Here’s what Newman told Netflix’s Tudum sight about the collaboration with the acting legend that is De Niro:

“As a lifelong fan of American cinema, no actor looms larger for me than Robert De Niro. To have him as a producing partner and star in this show is beyond our wildest dreams. I’m grateful to Netflix for their continued faith and support and thrilled to be in business with the amazing creative team of Noah, Lesli, and Jonathan [Glickman] on this timely (and terrifying) series.”

The new series follows respected former U.S. President George Mullen (De Niro), who, as head of the Zero Day Commission, is charged with finding the perpetrators of a devastating cyber-attack that has caused chaos around the country and thousands of fatalities.

As disinformation runs rampant and the personal ambition of power brokers in technology, Wall Street, and government collide, Mullen’s unwavering search for the truth forces him to confront his own dark secrets while risking all he holds dear.

Lest you think he’s just picking up a paycheck on this one, De Niro was, according to Newman, truly involved:

“De Niro very much became our partner in this process — very hands-on, very involved, read everything at every stage, and it’s been an incredible honor and privilege. You can count on one hand the actors and actresses in history who bring this level of gravitas, pedigree, and talent to their work.”

Angela Bassett is President Evelyn Mitchell, the current president of the United States. Mitchell is a brilliant and perceptive political tactician who hires Mullen to take on an unprecedented role in American history.

Jesse Plemons is Roger Carlson, George Mullen’s former aide. Roger is now a trusted fixer and an unabashed hustler who’s seeking a return to the national stage alongside Mullen.

Lizzy Caplan is Alexandra Mullen, a young congresswoman from New York who’s worked hard to distance herself from her father’s political legacy and establish herself in her own right.

Joan Allen is Sheila Mullen, former first lady and nominee to the federal bench. Elegant and always poised, Sheila is a supportive and present wife and mother with strong professional ambitions of her own — and she’s nobody’s fool.

Matthew Modine is Richard Dreyer, a confident, colorful public figure. As the speaker of the house, he’s an adept politician.

Bill Camp is CIA Director Jeremy Lasch, the ultimate insider who seems to know everyone’s secret. He can either be a dangerous enemy or a valuable friend to Mullen and everyone in his circle.

A new action movie? From the director of ‘The Raid’ and its sequel, Gareth Evans? And starring Tom Hardy, a man with no little experience in the genre?

Havoc’ is the example of a movie we figured would be on the fastest of fast tracks, but despite backing from Netflix when it was originally announced in 2021, it has been a slow road to screens for the movie.

    359UqUsOx3lNe1B71Z0im3

Most of that can be chalked up to tricky scheduling –– after an initial shoot, he knew he needed to tweak certain scenes and had some footage he needed to add, but between the in-demand Hardy and the variety of brawlers and other actors in the cast, he had to wait.

Yet Evans, who has also worked on the likes of ‘Apostle,’ sees it as an advantage.

This is what Evans said about that to Empire:

“It’s had a profound effect on the film. It allowed me to better streamline it and make it what it was always intended to be, which is a blistering, fast-paced action-thriller with nods to the Hong Kong cinema that I grew up watching.”

    Here’s Evans talking up Hardy:

“When it comes to a film called ‘Havoc, with me and Tom Hardy, we deliver on the action front. That’s the primary focus. But with Tom, what you get as well is an intensely muscular central performance, and really well-developed character. There’s a lot going on under the hood.”

Back in May of last year, it appeared that the long-gestating reboot of ‘Cliffhanger’ was ready to be born instead as a sequel to the 1993 original, with star Sylvester Stallone pulling on his climbing gear for a return as Gabe Walker.

Yet as these things always seem to do, the project has since evolved back into more of a reboot, with Stallone dropping out (hopefully not down a giant cliff) and the storyline switching to characters played by Lily James and Pierce Brosnan.

And there have also been some changes behind the camera, too.

The first change beyond the stars for the movie is in the script, which is based on a story by Ana Lily Amirpour (who was involved with the film back in another incarnation in 2019). Variety has heard it described as a father-daughter take on ‘Die Hard.’

Brosnan will play seasoned mountaineer Ray Cooper, who operates a luxury chalet in the Dolomites with daughter Sydney.

During a weekend trip with a billionaire’s son, they are targeted by a gang of kidnappers. Ray’s other daughter Naomi (James), still haunted by a past climbing accident, witnesses the attack and escapes. To save her family, she must confront her fears and fight for survival.

While Ric Roman Waugh was aboard to direct the film when Sly was still aboard, the reins have now passed to ‘Non-Stop’s Jaume Collet-Serra, with the producing team of Rocket Science still aboard after all these different iterations.

Collet-Serra is busy rolling cameras on the movie now in Austria and offered up this statement:

“Shooting our movie on location in the Dolomites using large format cameras was imperative for us to show the scope and scale of the story we’re telling. We’re going to bring the audience a truly thrilling and visceral, premium theatrical experience. Lily in particular has gone above and beyond for the role, putting in real training and learning to climb. Her dedication has allowed us to capture some incredible shots we couldn’t have achieved otherwise, and the whole crew is blown away by her commitment.”

When will the new ‘Cliffhanger’ dangle into theaters?

Rocket Science will be offering domestic distribution rights to the movie, with CAA Media selling international.

Which is a longwinded way of saying that there is no studio aboard yet, so we’ll have to wait for any release date details. But the fact remains that the movie shooting at all is a big step forward.

    • The first look at Jeremy Allen White as Bruce Springsteen is online.
    • He’ll star in ‘Deliver Me from Nowhere,’ directed by Scott Cooper.
    • Jeremy Strong, Paul Walter Hauser and Stephen Graham co-star.

The musical biopics continue to arrive, and many of them are choosing to go the segment-of-life route (see: ‘Bob Marley: One Love’) as opposed to the cradle-to-grave approach.

With the cameras now rolling, we have our first look at ‘Deliver Me from Nowhere,’ which will detail the recording of one particular album in iconic rocker Bruce Springsteen’s back catalogue.

Starring as Springsteen is Jeremy Allen White, who knows a little something about playing people who are dedicated to the act of creation after playing the driven Carmy in ‘The Bear,’ even if here, he’s swapping cooking for music.

Scott Cooper, who has made the likes of ‘Crazy Heart,’ ‘Hostiles’ and ‘Black Mass,’ is directing the film from his own script.

Here’s what Cooper had to say about working on the new movie:

“Beginning production on this film is an incredibly humbling and thrilling journey. Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Nebraska’ has profoundly shaped my artistic vision. The album’s raw, unvarnished portrayal of life’s trials and resilience resonates deeply with me. Our film aims to capture that same spirit, bringing Warren Zanes’ compelling narrative of Bruce’s life to the screen with authenticity and hope, honoring Bruce’s legacy in a transformative cinematic experience.”

The new movie will follow Springsteen as he struggles to make 1982 album “Nebraska.” The development of the record, which followed Springsteen’s 1981 “The River Tour,” marked a pivotal time in his life, one that he would only openly talk about decades after its release.

It’s regarded as a landmark in his musical odyssey and a source of inspiration for a generation of artists and musicians. Recorded on a 4-track recorder in Springsteen’s New Jersey bedroom and without The E Street Band, “Nebraska” is considered one of Springsteen’s most enduring works — a raw, haunted acoustic record populated by lost souls searching for a reason to believe.

    • The first pictures from new sci-fi movie ‘The Electric State’ have landed.
    • Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt star.
    • Joe and Anthony Russo are the directors.

Since wrapping up their successful run of movies at Marvel, capped with the huge blockbuster ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ directing/sibling duo Joe and Anthony Russo have seen more mixed fortunes in terms of their filmmaking.

While they set up their own production company, their actual movies have been hit and miss –– the likes of ‘Cherry’ and ‘The Gray Man’ haven’t seen the same pop cultural impact as their time with Iron Man and the rest of the Marvel gang.

Now, before they prepare to head back to the MCU for more ‘Avengers’ action, the pair have an ambitious new science fiction film on the way.

Adapted from Simon Stålenhag’s book by their regular collaborators Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely (who found the source material and wrote a spec script), ‘The Electric State’ finds man and machine typically having trouble co-existing, with Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt starring in the story of a young woman looking for her missing brother.

The first pictures from the new movie are now online.

The new movie is set in an alternate, retro-futuristic version of the 1990s. Brown plays Michelle, an orphaned teenager navigating life in a society where sentient robots resembling cartoons and mascots, who once served peacefully among humans, now live in exile following a failed uprising.

Everything Michelle thinks she knows about the world is upended one night when she’s visited by Cosmo, a sweet, mysterious robot who appears to be controlled by Christopher — Michelle’s genius younger brother whom she thought was dead.

Determined to find the beloved sibling she thought she had lost, Michelle sets out across the American southwest with Cosmo, and soon finds herself reluctantly joining forces with Keats (Pratt), a low-rent smuggler, and his wisecracking robot sidekick, Herman (voiced by Anthony Mackie).

As they venture into the Exclusion Zone, a walled-off corner in the desert where robots now exist on their own, Keats and Michelle find a strange, colorful group of new animatronic allies — and begin to learn that the forces behind Christopher’s disappearance are more sinister than they ever expected.

Besides Brown, Pratt and Mackie, the cast includes Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Woody Norman, Giancarlo Esposito and Stanley Tucci.

And that’s just the people making live-action appearances on screen. We’ll also hear the likes of Woody Harrelson, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Hank Azaria, Colman Domingo and Alan Tudyk lending their voices to mechanized characters.

Brown discussed her character with Vanity Fair in a recent article:

“The note that I would always get is, she’s still human. She’s rebellious and yes, she doesn’t want to follow the rules and she’s incredibly hurt because she’s dealing with a lot of grief. But she’s not invincible. We’re technically both the same age, so I feel like it was just: What are moments that I wouldn’t show my weakness? What are moments that I would? And I just played with that. I really want her to show that she’s made of stone because I want that to be the perception of who she is. But actually, as you get to know her, she softens and she warms up. And I tried to implement as much of my own experiences into her as possible.”

Netflix has yet to confirm when the movie will be arriving, beyond setting it for a 2025 release. Given the scale of this thing, we’d imagine the company will at least grant it a limited theatrical run ahead of it arriving on users’ accounts.

The series, which began life on Britain’s BBC Two in 2013, is a crime drama centered on a family of mixed Irish Traveler and Romani origins based in Birmingham, England, starting in 1919, several months after the end of World War I.

It’s named after the Peaky Blinders street gang and their ambitious, cunning crime boss Shelby. The show has since run for six seasons.

Netflix, spotting an opportunity to pick up a well-loved series, snagged the rights in 2014 and it has since gone on to win multiple awards.

In case you’re wondering, the “peaky blinders” referred to the gang’s sartorial efforts. distinctive fashion sense, including colorful clothing and peaked newsboy caps. At the time, “peaky” was a common term for flat caps with a peak, and “blinder” was a Birmingham slang term for someone who looked dapper. In less legal terms, they were also infamous for pulling the brims of their caps down when they attacked someone so as not to be recognized.

What will the ‘Peaky Blinders’ movie be about?

When we last saw Tommy Shelby, he had killed off his cousin Michael (Finn Cole) and rode off into the sunset on a white steed after handing the reins of the family business to sister Ada (Sophie Rundle).

Nothing has been officially released about the movie’s plot yet, though Knight has previously suggested that it’ll chronicle the gang’s efforts during World War II.

Who is joining Cillian Murphy in the ‘Peaky Blinders’ movie?

Beyond Murphy, we know that Rebecca Ferguson (‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning’) and ‘Saltburn’s Barry Keoghan are aboard, as is Tim Roth (last seen in 2022’s ‘Punch’).

The rest of the cast is yet to be announced, but there has been plenty of speculation that the likes of Rundle, Paul Anderson, Finn Cole, Natasha O’Keefe, and Harry Kirton, who play members of the Shelby family, could all show up.
