  • David Schwimmer Says the ‘Friends’ Reunion Was ‘Lovely’

Cast Members Of NBC's Comedy Series Friends Pictured (L) To R : David Schwimmer As RossAudiences only have to wait a few more weeks before they can watch the “Friends” cast reunion for themselves, and according to one star, the event was as wonderful as you’re imagining.

David Schwimmer spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the gathering, which took place last week at a ceremony saluting legendary television director James Burrows, and featured the casts of several shows Burrows shepherded, including “The Big Bang Theory,” “Frasier,” and “Will & Grace.” The event was taped, and will air on NBC next month.

According to Schwimmer, the experience of reuniting with almost the entire “Friends” crew (minus Matthew Perry, who’s in London rehearsing for a play) couldn’t have been better, and Schwimmer, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, and Matt LeBlanc were all thrilled to be there for Burrows.

“It was just lovely to be in the same room and to honor Jimmy, who we all really love,” Schwimmer told ET. “He is a prolific director and he really, really helped forge the cast as an ensemble, and really clarified all those relationships from the get go. So it was lovely to be there.”

Burrows has directed 1,000 episodes of television since his career began back in the 1970s, including stints on classic sitcoms such as “Taxi,” “Cheers,” “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “The Bob Newhart Show,” and “Laverne & Shirley.” He helmed the “Friends” pilot, as well as many more episodes throughout the show’s first few seasons, including the infamous “The One Where Ross and Rachel Take a Break.”

  • The Most Unforgettable ‘Friends’ Love Interests, Ranked From Worst to Best

    %Slideshow-360191%
It’s no surprise that, during its 10-season run, “Friends” had (nearly) countless love interests. Some of them were awesome, while others… well, they pretty much sucked — and they can make re-watching classic episodes feel like you’re entering the seventh level of hell.

Here, then, is our ranking of the most memorable “Friends” love interests, all the way from “ugh” to “he’s her lobster.”

  • ‘Friends’ Reunion Update: Matthew Perry Won’t Be There for You

1996 THE CAST OF THE TV HIT SERIES "FRIENDS"Sorry, “Friends” fans, but that so-called “reunion” of the six sitcom castmates isn’t really a reunion anymore: One of the main friends won’t be there for you.

Matthew Perry will be absent when production starts on the planned tribute to legendary sitcom director James Burrows, which was to have featured several casts of his famous series, including “Frasier,” “Will & Grace,” “The Big Bang Theory,” and the “Friends” crew. Perry is currently in London rehearsing for a new play, “The End of Longing,” which is set to begin previews in the coming weeks. The Burrows special — which is airing on NBC next month — is set to tape on January 24.

NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt had gotten fans’ hopes up earlier this week when he announced at a Television Critics Association panel that the “Friends” gang — Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Perry, and David Schwimmer — were set to reunite to pay tribute to Burrows, who helmed many episodes of “Friends” throughout its 10-season run (including the pilot, and the infamous “The One Where Ross and Rachel Take a Break”). Greenblatt had said that he was cautiously optimistic that he could wrangle the entire cast together to honor Burrows, but was hesitant to call it a sure thing.

“We’d like to get all six of them in the same room at the same time, but I’m not sure we can logistically pull it off,” Burrows said at the time.

But on Thursday, a representative for Perry told USA Today that Perry simply wouldn’t be able to make it, since he’s tied up across the pond (something NBC reportedly knew before Greenblatt’s announcement).

“Matthew may tape something for the tribute,” the spokeswoman, Lisa Kasteler, told the outlet. “In other words, this is not the reunion people have been hoping for.”

You’re telling us. Could we BE any more bummed? Then again, this was never supposed to be hyped as solely a “Friends” reunion anyway — the special is really all about Burrows and his contribution to the television landscape over many decades (including his involvement with classic series such as “Cheers,” “Taxi,” “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “The Bob Newhart Show,” and “Laverne & Shirley”). We suppose now that Perry will be missing, the focus can shift back to Burrows where it belongs.

The special is set to air on NBC on February 21.

  • The ‘Friends’ Cast Is Reuniting! This Is Not a Drill!

FriendsThe cast of “Friends” will be there for James Burrows.

The six stars of the now-classic NBC sitcom — Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer, — are reuniting on screen for the first time since 2004. If if you’re hoping for a follow-up to the series, sorry! Instead, the cast is getting together to honor veteran director Burrows, who recently helmed his 1,000th episode of television.

Burrows directed many episodes of “Friends,” as well as other hit shows including “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” “Taxi,” “Cheers,” “Two and a Half Men,” and “The Big Bang Theory.” He crossed the 1,000-marker line last November with NBC’s midseason comedy, “Crowded.”

The Burrows tribute is a two-hour-long special being likened to the “Saturday Night Live” 40th anniversary extravaganza. Other luminary casts will also join in the fun, including the stars of “Frasier,” “Will & Grace,” and “The Big Bang Theory.” The special will air Sunday, Feb. 21 at 9 p.m.

    %Slideshow-329369%
During 10 seasons of “Friends,” the gang went through a lot of love interests. While most of them didn’t stick around (they left or were dumped), some of them still hold a special place in our hearts. Others make our monthly annual rewatches slightly unbearable.

Here is our ranking of the most memorable “Friends” love interests, from worst to best. Note: This doesn’t include any of the main six friends, because they would just obviously be the top five.

  • See Lisa Kudrow and Matt LeBlanc’s Emmys ‘Friends’ Reunion

No awards show would be complete without onetime castmates reuniting on the red carpet, and last night at the Emmys, two former “Friends” got together.

The Comeback,” LeBlanc for his leading role on “Episodes”) bumped into each other while doing interviews. As LeBlanc was chatting with “Entertainment Tonight,” he spotted Kudrow walking the red carpet, and beckoned her over to say hello.

The pair adorably complimented each other’s ensembles (LeBlanc protectively tried to button a button over Kudrow’s cleavage) and congratulated one another on their nominations, gleefully sharing in the other’s good fortune as only longtime pals can do. And the twosome revealed to “ET” that LeBlanc was actually the one to tell Kudrow she was up for an Emmy, after texting her his excitement when the nominations were revealed.

It’s a sweet moment, and one we’re glad we got to witness. Check it out for yourself below.

  • See Taylor Swift & Lisa Kudrow Sing ‘Smelly Cat’ from ‘Friends’

taylor swift, lisa kudrow, smelly catLike any good millennial, it turns out that Friends” — so much so, in fact, that she invited star Lisa Kudrow on stage at her show in Los Angeles Wednesday night to sing a Phoebe Buffay classic.

Swift introduced Kudrow as if she was talking about Buffay herself, telling the crowd that the singer she was about to bring out had only ever performed in coffee shops. The songstress then unveiled Central Perk fave Buffay/Kudrow, and the twosome belted out a rendition of “Smelly Cat,” Phoebe’s famous ode to a feline with unfortunate body odor.

As if that in itself wasn’t enough fun, Kudrow also riffed on a memorable “Friends” scene she shared with Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde, in which she criticized the singer (playing a rival Central Perk performer) for her lackluster vocals on “Smelly Cat.” Kudrow and Swift replayed that bit, with the former encouraging the latter to “really feel the lyrics,” and Swift obliging with a raspy take on one of the verses.

It’s all (mostly) captured in the clip below, which is a bit shaky but still manages to give fans who weren’t there in person an impression of how the performance played out live.

Swift has taken a bit of gentle ribbing for her penchant for parading out her famous friends while on tour, but this is one “Friend” we’re glad she shared. And according to Kudrow, the feeling is mutual.

  • Matthew Perry & Matt LeBlanc Weren’t Invited to Jennifer Aniston’s Wedding

Were they not really friends after all?

Friends” costars Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc.

The actors revealed that shocking omission this week during an interview with People at a Television Critics Association event in Los Angeles. But according to the former Chandler and Joey, there are no hard feelings.

Both actors wished Aniston and Theroux well, with LeBlanc calling the newlyweds “a great couple.”

“I think she’s happy. And that’s all I care about is that Jen’s happy,” LeBlanc told People, revealing that he also missed the actress’s first wedding, to ex-husband Brad Pitt, back in 2000, because he was off shooting a movie in Austria.

“If she wanted me there, I would have been there,” LeBlanc said of Aniston’s marriage to Theroux.

As for Perry, he told People that the pair’s surprise nuptials — the couple used the ruse of a birthday party for Theroux to gather pals together, before springing the wedding ceremony on the guests — were also a surprise to him, though he had nothing but good things to say about his former castmate and her new husband.

“They’re a lovely couple, and I’m happy for them,” Perry told People. ” … I wasn’t invited. So what can you do?”

As Chandler would say: Could they BE any more gracious?

No word yet from David Schwimmer, the only other “Friend” whose guest list status is unknown. Both Lisa Kudrow and Courteney Cox were in attendance for the hush-hush August 5 ceremony.
