  • This Is How Much Coffee the ‘Friends’ Drank in 10 Seasons

The “Friends” sure did love their coffee.

Of course, since the gang — Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler, and Ross — liked to hang out at Central Perk, they naturally consumed a lot of java. But just how much?

London writer Kit Lovelace tallied up the characters’ coffee intake in a handy chart that he tweeted:

Not only that, Lovelace broke it down even further, to track the amount of coffee each character consumed over 10 seasons. The results were interesting — all six of them drank less as time went on. Rachel, in particular, jumped a huge amount from seasons 1 to 5, then dropped again — likely following her employment at Central Perk:

Lovelace even went so far as to tally the cost of all that coffee. And we all wondered how they afforded those giant apartments — clearly, they all had trust funds to pay for them and all that coffee.

  • ‘Friends’ Co-Creator Reacts to That ‘Terrible’ Phoebe Theory

Weirdly enough, one of the creators of “Friends” is not down with the fan theory that the whole show was a “meth-addled fantasy of a homeless Phoebe as she stared through the window of Central Perk.”

That alternate series finale theory — that lonely Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) had to imagine her “Friends” — started making the rounds in August 2015, so it’s not exactly brand new information. The fanfic went viral, but Entertainment Tonight only just got comment from “Friends” co-creator Marta Kauffman at the 2017 ATX Television Festival in Austin.

“That’s the saddest thing I’ve ever heard! No, I never heard that — that’s a terrible theory. That’s insane! That’s crazy, like, alt-television theory. Wow! I’m fascinated. I just think someone needs a life. Someone needs a life, that’s all I’m saying.”

Hey, now. Anyone who helped to create a character who sings “Smelly Cat” has no room to tell others to get a life. It’s a decent theory, if a super-depressing one. Kauffman told ET she’s heard many “Friends” theories over the years, but that one was the most unsettling.

Still, it adds a new layer to your “Friends” experience to re-watch each episode with that theory in mind.

  • Matthew Perry Reveals ‘Friends’ Storyline He Rejected

In 10 seasons, the “Friends” got into plenty of hijinks. But there’s on escapade that didn’t take place, because star Matthew Perry rejected the idea.

On “Watch What Happens Live,” during the “Plead the Fifth” segment, Perry told host Andy Cohen, “There was a storyline on ‘Friends’ where Chandler went to a male strip joint because he really liked the sandwiches. I called up and said, ‘Let’s not do this one.’”

Maybe if it had been Joey, the storyline would’ve gone ahead!

Perry also declared he had never had sex with any of his co-stars. Cohen noted that last year, during a “Friends” reunion to honor director James Burrows (but which Perry did not attend), David Schwimmer hinted that some of the cast had slept with each other.

“I think there was no sex between any of them,” he said, “or at least I was really missing something!”

  • Lisa Kudrow Recalls an Incredibly Rude ‘Friends’ Guest Star

Friends Television Stills TelevisionSomebody out there is overdue for a smack upside the head.

“Friends” star “Watch What Happens Live” — she’s part of the voice cast for “The Boss Baby” and co-stars in “Table 19,” which are both out this month — and she answered a fan question.

The fan asked Kudrow, without naming names, what was the worst behavior she ever saw from a guest star on “Friends”?

    Here’s her answer:

“The worst behavior, off the top of my head? I rehearsed without makeup most of the week, and then on show night, I’m in hair and makeup, and I was told, ‘Oh wow, now you’re —’ Can I say it? ‘Now you’re f*ckable’. That’s bad behavior, I’d say.”

Host Andy Cohen said “Wow,” and the audience ooooohed, although some laughed. Fellow guest Jennifer Beals asked Kudrow if she retaliated against the guest star.

“I told Matt LeBlanc. He’s like a big brother.”

Let’s hope Joey had some choice words for this totally un-f*ckable guest star. Could they BE more obnoxious?

  • Attention, Network Execs: Jennifer Aniston Wants to Return to Television

  • Jennifer Aniston Visits ‘SNL’ to Slam Rachel From ‘Friends’ Impression

The real Rachel from “Friends” just called out the fake Rachel from “Friends” of “Saturday Night Live,” and the result was … well, uh, you know, well, it’s, it’s, it’s, uh, yeah, good.

Vanessa Bayer revived her “Rachel From ‘Friends’” impression on Weekend Update for a segment on ’90s nostalgia, and she was visited by “Friends” alum Jennifer Aniston, who also co-stars with Bayer in the upcoming movie “Christmas Office Party.” Aniston basically confronted Bayer on being her stalker, and argued that the SNL-er’s Rachel impression isn’t exactly “a great bit.”

Jennifer Aniston: “Listen, honey, I know that you love ‘Friends.’ And we had such a great time making our movie together, but you’ve got to really try to stop texting me every day.”

Vanessa Bayer: “I know. I just texted you ’cause I thought we could hang. ‘Cause I think you’re like the best.”

Aniston: “That’s so sweet, honey, and you are too. But ‘Friends’ was like 5 million and 5 years ago. So I think we’ve just got to move on.”

Bayer: “Well, I don’t know. I just thought, since I do this great bit as Rachel, so…”

Aniston: “Is it a great bit, though? It kind of just sounds like all you’re doing is, like, ‘Oh, what?! Oh, me? Oh, wow. No!’”

Their dueling Rachel impressions include Aniston shouting in exasperation, “No, I don’t do that!” and both Rachels sighing “Oh, Ross.”

Watch the Rachel reunion:Aniston was in another sketch that night, with the show’s actual host Emma Stone, plus Sasheer Zamata, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon stealing every scene (again) as Old Hollywood star Debette Goldry:Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook.

  • The ‘Friends’ Cast Did Not Like the Show’s Theme Song

FriendsThe “Friends” cast will be there for you — unless you’re the theme song to the show.

Jennifer Aniston recently revealed on the BBC’s “The One Show that the cast did not like the famous tune sung by the Rembrandts, “I’ll Be There For You,” which played over the opening credits of the mega-hit NBC comedy.

“No one was really a big fan of that theme song,” she said. The actress and fellow stars Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer “felt it was a little … I don’t know. Dancing in a pond? A fountain felt sort of odd.”

So, why did they pretend to have fun splashing around the fountain in the credits?

“We did it because we were told to,” she explained.

OK, maybe the “Friends” cast didn’t like the song, but Aniston also admitted that she’s just like normal people and gets sucked into watching the show when she’s channel surfing.

” “I can’t help it. First, I’m trying to remember which episode it is, and then half the time I’m saying to myself, ‘I don’t remember that,’” she said. “You get sucked into the nostalgia of it.”

    Don’t we all?

  • This Fan Theory Connecting ‘Gilmore Girls’ & ‘Friends’ Almost Works

Someone out there went full “Westworld” on “Friends” and “Gilmore Girls.”

The timelines don’t completely add up in this fan theory — which was actually posted on Reddit months ago and only just recently got picked up by whichever house elf is responsible for making stories go viral. Glamour shared the theory, which originated from Reddit user NotAnAverageTaunTaun in a thread called “[Gilmore Girls / Friends] Paris Geller is Rachel Green’s redemption story.”Yes, the theory surrounds Paris Geller of “Gilmore Girls,” and directly links her name to Rachel Green’s “Friends” storyline.

Put on your tinfoil hat and read away:

“As most of us know by now, the 2004 series finale of Friends portrays Rachel Green famously getting off a plane to Paris (where she was offered an incredible job at Louis Vuitton after working her way up from nothing in the fashion world) for her on-again off-again love interest, Ross Geller.

Meanwhile, another early-2000s show, Gilmore Girls, features a character named Paris Geller — a smart, no-nonsense, career-driven student who blossoms into an extremely motivated adult.

My theory is that, while Paris Geller’s name connection to Friends might have begun as an accident, her character arc is a deliberate flip-side of the coin from Rachel Green’s — a sort of redemption story. While Rachel sacrifices her career for love, Paris’s storyline time and again shows her doing the opposite; especially later in the show, after the Friends finale aired.

When faced with the possibility of her love life detracting from her future career, Paris breaks up with her beloved Yale boyfriend, Doyle — she refuses to let a boy stop her from attending medical school. Unlike Ross Geller in Friends, Doyle makes the choice to support and follow Paris wherever she decides to go, effectively reversing the Rachel and Paris’s respective character arcs.”

The author acknowledges that she might be “grasping at straws” and could just be projecting her own frustration with Rachel’s choice to not go for the Louis Vuitton job.

One of the commenters basically shot the theory down, based on the characters’s different personalities and the conflicting series timelines. As they wrote, “Friends also ended in 2004. That’s when Rachel had the Paris thing going on. Gilmore Girls started in 2000. Paris was not named after Rachel’s potential city of employment.”

Yeah, OK, but the theory can still live on in an alternate universe, like a sideways “Lost” situation. Don’t crush the dreams of inventive fans, they are the ones keeping these shows alive year after year! Without them, we might not get things like the “Gilmore Girls” revival coming November 25 to Netflix.

  • Here’s the ‘Friends’ Theme Song Performed by Movie Characters

More than 20 years after the series premiered, the “Friends” theme song, “I’ll Be There for You,” is still as inescapable as ever. Naturally, that makes it ripe for parody, and one YouTube user took it upon himself to mash it up with a bunch of movie characters reciting the lyrics over the backing track. The result is nothing short of brilliant.

In the clip, shared by user The Unusual Suspect, 49 different movies take a swing at “singing” the Rembrandts tune, through the clever use of dialogue — and some sound effects — to cover all of the lyrics. The clip begins with Tom Cruise in “Risky Business” turning on the stereo, John Belushi in “The Blues Brothers” counting down, and then a host of characters ranging from Kermit the Frog to Wayne from “Wayne’s World” to Anna from “Frozen” begin spouting off the lyrics. And yes, the handclaps are in there, too, thanks to some delightfully-timed cackling from Jim Carrey.

Borat, Elizabeth Banks, Jimmy Stewart, and Arnold Schwarzenegger are some of the many, many stars that make cameos, and featured films include “Zootopia,” “Lord of the Rings,” “Sex and the City,” and “E.T.” It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it jumble movies from different genres and time periods, and it’s absolutely fabulous. • Chandler Dies & Returns as a Ghost in Brilliant ‘Friends’ Mashup

Could this *be* more eerily perfect?

Just in time for Halloween, a creative “Friends” fan conjured a 16-minute mashup called “The One Where Chandler Dies…,” imagining an episode where Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry) dies in an accident with an ice cream truck, then comes back as a glowing green ghost the other friends can’t see. It’s funny, creepy, strangely moving, and amazingly clever.

    Check it out:
Well done, er, “Dogfood”! That’s the name of the YouTuber who posted the video, adding this description to reveal the impressive amount of work it took:

“A loving mashup offering an alternate ending to Friends that’s at once very bleak, but also existential, spooky and uplifting Originally envisioned at a 90-seconds max. duration, the final cut is just 6 minutes shy of the standard 22-min episode length, contains around 125 FX shots and parts of around 125 episodes of the 236 made.”

NBC should seriously make a deal with this YouTuber and air an extended version of the mashup as a special Halloween episode. “Friends” fans are always begging for a reunion episode … well, here you go! (And it’s slightly less depressing than the fan fiction that “Friends” was all in Phoebe’s mind.)
