  • Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow Crushing ‘Friends’ Trivia Is Delightful

The Image Awards“Friends.” The two actresses are genuinely close friends and have supported each other’s projects, but no Cox/Kudrow reunion has been so delightful as their recent appearance on “Celebrity Name Game.”

Cox is an executive producer of the game show, and Kudrow has been on it before. The two played a bonus round on this week’s episode, and it was … “Friends” trivia!

Admittedly, the questions were not hard — though Kudrow did struggle a bit with naming the Ugly Naked Guy. But how adorable is she mimicking Matt LeBlanc while saying Joey’s “how you doin’?” line? Even better is Cox impersonating David Schwimmer’s Ross and his pathetic “hi.” Can these two BE any cuter? The only way the trivia round could’ve been better is if one of the answers had been “Miss Chanandler Bong.”

    Best “Friends” forever!

  • Matt LeBlanc Wants to Catch Up on ‘Game of Thrones’ to See Emilia Clarke Naked

There are many good reasons to watch “Game of Thrones” — which was nominated for 23 Emmys at the 68th annual Emmy Awards — and, you know, nudity might be one of them. If you’re Matt LeBlanc, anyway.

If you’re really up on things, you may recall seeing the “Friends” alum and GoT star Emilia Clarke on the U.K.’s “The Graham Norton Show,” where Emilia revealed she’s a big “Friends” fan and was thrilled to meet “Joey” in person.
68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - ArrivalsWell, fast-forward to the 2016 E! Emmys red carpet, and both the GoT star and the “Friends” alum were interviewed, separately, at the same time. It was clear Emilia was a “Friends” fan, so Matt was asked if he’s a “Game of Thrones” fan. He said he stopped watching after Season 1, then Emilia’s character, Daenerys Targaryen, “got naked,” he now he feels like has to catch up. Ahem!

When the camera cut back to Emilia, she seemed skeptical that Matt had even seen Season 1 (since she was naked right out of the gate and in the finale, which you’d think he’d know). Either way, it sounds like this is a true mutual admiration society … if perhaps for different reasons.

But speaking of “Friends,” again, that sounds like the kind of show Emilia would like to do next, after “Game of Thrones” ends in Season 8. She said “doing comedy — more of that would be wonderful.”

  • ‘Jarring’ ‘Friends’ Fame Made David Schwimmer Want to Hide

Guess we were a little too there for “Friends,” picking up new co-star friends, new loyal fans, and some fat new paychecks. But he felt the overnight fame, coming when he was 27, was a Catch-22 — he had a steady acting job, but the attention ruined his people-watching acting process. Now he was the one being watched.

“It was pretty jarring and it messed with my relationship to other people in a way that took years, I think, for me to adjust to and become comfortable with,” Schwimmer told The Hollywood Reporter. “As an actor, the way I was trained, my job was to observe life and to observe other people, so I used to walk around with my head up, really engaged and watching people. The effect of celebrity was the absolute opposite: It made me want to hide under a baseball cap and not be seen. And I realized after a while that I was no longer watching people; I was trying to hide. So I was trying to figure out: How do I be an actor in this new world, in this new situation? How do I do my job? That was tricky.”

The cast of the NBC television series "Friends" (L-R) Matthew Perry as Chandler Bing, Courteney Cox Arquette as Monica Geller, Matt LeBlanc as Joey Tribbiani, Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe Buffay, David Schwimmer as Ross Geller and Jennifer Aniston as Rachel Green are pictured in this undated publicity photograph. The series received an Emmy nomination as Best Comedy series as Emmy nominations were announced July 18, 2002 in Los Angeles. The Emmy Awards will be presented in Los Angeles September 22. NO SALES REUTERS/Jon Ragel/NBC/HandoutSchwimmer earned his first Emmy nomination for “Friends,” and now 21 years later he is nominated for his role as O.J. Simpson attorney Robert Kardashian in “The People v. O.J. Simpson.” Even taking on new roles, it’s hard for Schwimmer to shake off Ross. He told THR that TV stardom is different from any other kind because of the intimacy of spending one night a week in people’s homes for 10 years.

“There’s less of a barrier than there is with, say, a big movie star — you see them in this other kind of a space with a lot of other people on a big screen and you see that their role changes in every movie, for the most part,” Schwimmer said. “They’re very different people in very different situations, whereas in our show I’m the same guy for 10 years, you can rely on me to be a certain way and you know me — or you think you know me.”

You think you know him. But he’s not Ross. He’s just the rich guy who played him for a while. And now he wants to observe you for his next role, so please keep walking.

  • Sorry, ‘Friends’ Fans, But a Reunion Is Never Happening

Friends Television StillsIt’s been more than 10 years since “Friends” left the airwaves, but fans still can’t get enough of the sitcom. The love runs so deep that this year’s NBC tribute to renowned comedy director James Burrows was immediately branded as “The Friends Reunion Show,” thanks to the cast’s (minimal) involvement. But aside from that gathering of five of the six stars, will there ever be a real, true “Friends” reunion on our TV screens?

The answer, sadly, is an unequivocal “no.”

That’s the latest word from “Friends” co-creator Marta Kauffman, who recently sat down for a lengthy roundtable Q&A with some fellow TV comedy showrunners for The Hollywood Reporter. Kauffman discussed what it was like being pigeonholed after the sitcom went off the air (“After ‘Friends,’ all they wanted me to do was create another multicamera show,” she said), and her distaste for spinoffs (“I’d feel like I was cheapening the original,” she added, though she graciously didn’t mention “Joey” by name). But what about a “Friends” reunion special — say, for Emma Geller’s high school graduation, or Chandler and Monica’s 20th anniversary — instead?

THR jokingly broached the subject with Kauffman, and “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” showrunner Aline Brosh McKenna also chimed in, but Kauffman remained staunchly unmoved. Here’s the exchange:

THR: I know how much you enjoy the questions about a Friends reunion.

KAUFFMAN: Oh, oh, don’t even. I don’t know how many ways we can say no.

BROSH MCKENNA: It’s a [testament] to the love of the show and the renewed relevance of the show.

KAUFFMAN: They can watch it on Netflix!

So there you go: It ain’t gonna happen. At least, like Kauffman said, we’ll always have Netflix. (And endless reruns on cable TV.)

  • Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry Had a Mini ‘Friends’ Reunion in London, Baby!

Cast of FriendsMatt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry held a mini “Friends” reunion in London over the weekend, making us happier than Joey Tribbiani exploring the world capital with with a giant, pop-up map.

LeBlanc, who’s been in the UK a lot recently filming the rebooted version of BBC car series “Top Gear,” took in some theater on Sunday, catching Perry in the play “The End of Longing,” which is currently running in London’s famed West End theater district. (And is the reason why Perry couldn’t make it to NBC’s James Burrows tribute, at which the rest of the “Friends” gang reunited to reminisce about working with the famed director.) The two caught up after the show and posed for a photo, which LeBlanc shared on Instagram, star raving that “[Perry] and the cast were great.”

Went to see The End If Longing last night and ran into this dude. He and the cast were great. Way to go bro.

Of course, “Friends” fans know that LeBlanc and Perry have already hung out in London before: during the epic two-part season four finale in which Ross got hitched in the city, and his pals came along for some fun (and some shenanigans — “I take thee, Rachel,” anyone?). The episode featured Joey and Chandler squabbling over Joey’s overly-enthusiastic approach to being a tourist, leading Chandler to bail on his buddy — and miss out on a big celebrity sighting.

There’s no word on whether or not LeBlanc later ran into a former royal and rubbed it in Perry’s face, though we can only hope something along those lines occurred. London, baby!

  • Watch an Extended Clip From the ‘Friends’ Reunion at the James Burrows Tribute

We’ve seen the photos, we’ve seen the promos, and now, we have our first extended look at the “Friends” reunion, which took place last month at a tribute special for legendary sitcom director James Burrows, and is set to air later this month.

The clip, shared by TVLine, features five of the six main “Friends” stars (minus Matthew Perry, who’s in London starring in a play) reminiscing about their memories of Burrows, who directed many episodes of the longrunning NBC series, including its pilot. David Schwimmer went on to helm several episodes of the show as well, and said during the special that he looked to Burrows for guidance in exploring his newfound interest in directing.

“I asked him if I could watch him and follow him,” Schwimmer said of shadowing Burrows, both on the set of “Friends” and other series. ” … He graciously took me under his wing, and I learned so much from him.”

Co-star Lisa Kudrow reminisced about how Burrows started calling “Friends” cast members by the names of other famous characters from his previous gigs, including dubbing Courteney Cox “Mary Tyler Moore,” Matt LeBlac “Danza” (“Taxi” star Tony Danza), and Kudrow “Reverend Jim” (fellow “Taxi” star Christopher Lloyd).

“He wasn’t saying, ‘You’re as good as Christopher Lloyd,’” Kudrow conceded. ” … But I heard what I needed to hear.”

Check out the full clip above. The entire special, “Must See TV: An All Star Tribute to James Burrows,” airs on NBC on February 21.
