  • ‘Westworld’ & ‘S.W.A.T.’ Halt Production Due to Wildfires

“Westworld” and “S.W.A.T.” are the latest shows to freeze all motor functions due to wildfires.

According to Variety, both TV shows film near Santa Clarita, California. That’s where the “Rye Fire” blaze grew to 1,000 acres by the afternoon of Tuesday, Dec. 5, KABC news reported, with zero percent containment.

Obviously, safety trumps TV production, and both shows are hitting the pause button until it’s OK to continue.

The writers of CBS’s new show “S.W.A.T.” tweeted this update:

“Westworld” Season 2 is still filming for its premiere in spring 2018 on HBO. The cable network shared its own update on Tuesday (via Variety):

“Due to nearby wildfires, ‘Westworld’ stopped production earlier today and will resume filming as soon as it’s safe to do so.”

In October, Netflix’s “13 Reasons Why” Season 2 stopped filming for a few days due to wildfires ravaging Northern California.

“S.W.A.T.” Season 1, starring Shemar Moore, continues with Episode 6, airing December 7 on CBS. “Westworld” Season 2 should still arrive this spring on HBO.

  • ‘Westworld’ Season 2 to Premiere Spring 2018, According to Evan Rachel Wood

“Westworld” is re-opening sooner than expected.

The sci-fi drama premiered on HBO in October 2016 to acclaim, going on to earn 22 Emmy nominations. A second season was immediately ordered, but creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy were very up front that it would not be completed until 2018.

Many fans and industry observers believed HBO would debut Season 2 again in the fall, but star Evan Rachel Wood revealed that the park is coming back to life in the spring:

It looks like “Westworld” is taking the prestige Sunday night spring slot from “Game of Thrones,” which generally premiered in April — until its most recent, seventh season, which debuted this past July. The latter show’s final season will require even more intensive production and will likely not air until 2019 (perhaps retaking its spring slot).

Wood’s news indicates that a recent halt in “Westworld” filming, due to a medical emergency, won’t affect the production’s timeline.

Not much is known about Season 2’s plot. Nolan and Joy have teased the introduction of other “worlds,” and one casting notice appeared to confirm the finale’s brief glimpse of Samurai World. Jimmi Simpson, who plays William aka the young Man in Black, will return, as will Ben Barnes as Logan.

  • ‘Westworld’ Season 2 Filming Interrupted Due to Actor’s Medical Emergency

The “Westworld” family is hoping for a quick recovery for one of its own.

HBO shared on Thursday that one of the two filming units working on Season 2 of the hit show was temporarily suspended after an actor suffered a medical emergency. For the sake of the actor in question’s privacy, the network didn’t reveal the specifics of what happened to prompt the shutdown. We do know, however, that the emergency did not take place on set and that the person has a recurring role on “Westworld.”

“Due to a medical emergency involving a performer in a recurring role on season 2 of ‘Westworld,’ filming on one of the two units has been temporarily suspended,” the network told Deadline in a statement. “The cast member was not on set when this occurred, and out of respect for the performer’s privacy, we have no additional details to share, other than that everyone at ‘Westworld’ sincerely hopes for a quick recovery.”

It is hard to gauge the severity of what occurred, but we, too, hope the actor is doing well. In the meantime, the show’s other production unit wasn’t affected, so Season 2 progress is ongoing.

The sophomore season of “Westworld” is expected to premiere in spring 2018.

  • ‘Westworld’ Season 2: Creators Tease Arrival of Two More Worlds

When “Westworld” brings itself back online, the “intriguing” second season will have more worlds to explore.

Season 2 is now filming for a planned spring 2018 premiere on HBO. A recent casting pretty much confirmed the arrival of Samurai World — or whatever they decide “SW” stood for from the Season 1 finale. And now “Westworld” TV creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy just hinted at the possible arrival of two more worlds: Roman World and Medieval World.

The 1973 movie “Westworld,” written and directed by Michael Crichton, featured the Roman and Medieval parks.

At the start of a panel discussion during the 2017 Vanity Fair Summit, Nolan and Joy were asked why those worlds weren’t teased in Season 1. Here’s Nolan’s response, via Deadline:

“We had to save something for Season 2.”

Is that confirmation, or was he just being flippant? Deadline was there, and reported it as a new parks hint, so we’ll just have to wait and see how that pans out.

Meanwhile, Collider just talked to “Westworld” star Ed Harris (Man in Black/William), who had a lot to say about the crazy filming schedule of both Season 1 and Season 2. In terms of the Season 2 storyline, he told Collider, “So far it’s definitely intriguing. I don’t understand all that’s going on, but I know what I’m doing.” Best you can hope for, especially when he said they’ve been filming with multiple units working on multiple episodes at the same time. “I’m glad that I am not a person who’s trying to schedule the days of filming on this thing, because it’s insane.”

HBO has ordered 10 episodes for “Westworld” Season 2, and they’re expected in spring 2018.

  • This ‘Westworld’ Season 2 Casting Certainly Points to Samurai World

One of the coolest parts of the “Westworld” Season 1 finale is inching closer to full reality for Season 2.

As you’ll recall, Maeve (Thandie Newton) gave us a glimpse of SW — presumably Samurai World — in her tour of Delos. So we know there are other theme parks in this world, beyond Westworld, and a new casting for Season 2 further hinted to visiting said world next year.

According to TV Guide, Hiroyuki Sanada (“Lost”) will play Musashi in multiple episodes of “Westworld” Season 2.

'Life' Premiere - 2017 SXSW Conference and FestivalsAs TV Guide noted, the name Musashi might look familiar if you studied the HBO figurines that debuted at San Diego Comic-Con. Turns out, one of them was something of a character spoiler:

We don’t know anything about the character beyond that visual, but if that doesn’t point to Samurai World, what does?

Back in December, after the end of Season 1, “Westworld” co-creator Jonathan Nolan said he hoped to have Samurai World play out in Season 2.

It’s not clear if Samurai World is also Park 1, but Felix gave Maeve a note that her daughter was in Park 1, so we’re expecting to hear more about that in Season 2. (The original movie “Westworld,” written and directed by Michael Crichton, also featured the parks Roman World and Medieval World.)

Evan Rachel Wood (Dolores) told Variety we’ll be seeing a lot more of what Westworld is capable of, and backstory about why it’s there, in Season 2. She also said Season 2 is twice as ambitious as Season 1, and she’s still shocked by the twist and turns:

A teaser for “Westworld” Season 2 played at Comic-Con:HBO has yet to reveal a premiere date, but “Westworld” Season 2 will arrive in 2018.

Meanwhile, “Westworld” Season 1 tied for the most Emmy nominations of 2017 with 22 nods. See how many it picks up when the Emmy Awards air this Sunday, Sept. 17 on CBS.

  • First Look at ‘Westworld’ Season 2 Ups the Body Count

Even though “Westworld” Season 2 isn’t due to premiere till 2018, HBO is already teasing us with new footage.

The premium network debuted a first-look trailer during San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, and there is already more carnage, including a tiger corpse. That is not the only creepy part; blood pops up multiple times in the preview — on paper, on the floor, and on people. Not that that’s a surprise, of course.

Since the trailer comes so far in advance, the footage is fairly limited. However, we did get interesting glimpses, including of Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) gunning down people from the back of a horse as well as the Man in Black’s blood-spattered face.

“Westworld” Season 1 drew 22 Emmy nominations this year, so Season 2 will look to create similar success. Settle in, though, because it’s going to be a long wait till the show returns in 2018.

  • ‘Westworld’ Adds Jonathan Tucker, Neil Jackson to Season 2 Cast

2017 Outfest Los Angeles LGBT Film Festival - Opening Night Gala of 'God's Own Country' - Arrivals“Westworld” is expanding! Two new actors are joining the cast of HBO’s sci-fi Western drama in Season 2.

Jonathan Tucker (“Kingdom,” “Justified”) will play Major Craddock, “a commanding military officer,” while Neil Jackson (“Sleepy Hollow”) is “a charming and resourceful man who finds himself in uncharted territory.”

They join “Leftovers” alum Katja Herbers as Season 2 newcomers; Herbers plays a seasoned guest of the Westworld park.

Not much is known about the second season. Craddock could be part of the army that has already been a presence in the park, or a “real-life” military man sent to subdue the revolting hosts. As for Jackson’s character, he could be a guest who wanders into a dangerous area of the park — or perhaps even the new area that Maeve got a glimpse of in the finale.

The casting news comes just before the show’s Comic-Con panel in San Diego. The panelists include Ben Barnes, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Ed Harris, Luke Hemsworth, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Simon Quarterman, Rodrigo Santoro, Angela Sarafyan, Jimmi Simpson, Tessa Thompson, Evan Rachel Wood, Shannon Woodward and Jeffrey Wright.

“Westworld” recently received 22 Emmy nominations, including Best Drama and all four of the drama acting categories.

By the time the “Game of Thrones” panel takes place on July 21, fans will have already seen the Season 7 premiere, which airs July 16. “Westworld” Season 2 isn’t expected to air until 2018, so anything the cast and producers can share will be more than welcome to whet fans’s appetites.

  • ‘Westworld’ Stars Come Up With Their Own Fan Theories, Says Evan Rachel Wood

The Paley Center For Media's 34th Annual PaleyFest Los Angeles - 'Westworld' - InsideThis is a serious “stars — they’re just like us!” moment: The cast of “Westworld” comes up with fan theories for their own show.

Evan Rachel Wood, who plays Dolores on the HBO series, revealed to the Los Angeles Times that she and her co-stars were so into the plot while they were shooting that they had a group text chain where they shared their predictions.

“The running joke on set was that everyone thought they were Anthony Hopkins,” she told the Times.

Starring in the show didn’t necessarily make them accurate, though. Wood freely admits that her success rate was not good.

“I think I had about 100 theories and four were right,” she said.

She did, however, guess one major twist early on. Starting with the second episode, Wood developed a strong suspicion that she knew who the Man in Black was. When the theory occurred to her, she thought it would be “messed up” and “so heartbreaking” — which was how she knew she was right.

While the actress doesn’t know yet what will happen in Season 2 yet, she has ideas of what she’d like to see for her character.

“My hope absolutely is that she just takes over,” Wood said. “I don’t know if I just want bloody revenge. I also want her to be just messing with people’s minds.”

This might be one of the occasions when she’s right. We’re in for a long wait, but we’ll see when “Westworld” Season 2 premieres in 2018.

  • ‘Westworld’ Season 2 Won’t Pick Up Where Finale Left Off

The first season of HBO’s “Westworld” ended with an array of android hosts seemingly rising up against their human makers to take over the park. A bloodbath looked imminent.

But when “Westworld” returns for Season 2, viewers may not see that battle — at least, not at first.

“We are definitely not picking up right where we left off,” co-creator Jonathan Nolan told Entertainment Weekly at the show’s recent Paleyfest panel.

Nolan’s wife and co-creator Lisa Joy cryptically explained, “You’re definitely going to see the aftermath and the effects of what happened.”

So, does that mean Season 2 will have some kind of time jump — so we see the park days or weeks (or even months or years … or decades) after that showdown? Season 1 played with different time frames — perhaps “Westworld” will go back in time and explore more of the origins of the park.

Nolan has previously indicated Season 2 would illuminate how the park works, so we may get to know more of the hosts — like the ones played by Louis Herthum and Talulah Riley, who were both promoted to series regulars.

“Westworld” Season 2 is expected to premiere in 2018.
