  • ‘Westworld’ Reveals More Details About Shogun World

Ready to level up on “Westworld”?

The Season 1 finale hinted at other theme parks attached to Westworld and the Season 2 trailer tantalized fans with brief glimpses at Shotgun World. Now, an update from the Delos corporate website reveals more about the Japanese-themed park with this description:

For those for whom Westworld is not enough, the true connoisseur of gore can indulge their fantasies with the slash of a katana. Modeled after Japan’s Edo period, Shogun World offers a chance for guests to embrace their inner warrior, in a landscape of highest beauty and darkest horror. Let your true self take shape in the land where self-discovery is an art form.

This indicates Westworld is a park for beginners and that Shogun World is for guests who want to level up to even more violence and “darkest horror.”

The HBO drama previously announced that Oscar nominee Rinko Kikuchi (“Babel”) is joining the cast in Season 2 as a geisha in Shogun World.

Not much else is known about the plot of the second season. Jeffrey Wright teased that his character, Bernard, will face some “cognitive challenges” and “health issues.” And co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have hinted at the storylines of the Man in Black (Ed Harris) and his younger self, William (Jimmi Simpson), as well as missing programmer Elsie Hughes (Shannon Woodward) and security chief Ashley Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth).

“Westworld” Season 2 premieres April 22 on HBO.

  • The ‘Westworld’ Season 2 Official Trailer Is a Reckoning Set to Nirvana

Unfreeze all motor functions and watch the Shogun World out of the “Westworld” Season 2 trailer.

HBO just released the official trailer for Season 2, which (finally!) premieres April 22. The Super Bowl ad shared back in February was just that — a Season 2 ad specifically created to air during the game. This is different. And it looks like EVERYTHING to us.

    It looks like “a reckoning.”

It also looks like Maeve (Thandie Newton) gets to go to the new park, Shogun World.

“Westworld” always has the best music, and yes that’s genius composer Ramin Djawadi’s cover of Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box.”

“Westworld,” loosely adapted from Michael Crichton’s 1973 movie, launched with 10 episodes in 2016, then took 2017 off to film Season 2. Season 1 followed The Maze, with Season 2’s “title” said to be The Door.

“Westworld” stars the amazing cast of Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Ed Harris, Jimmi Simpson, James Marsden, Tessa Thompson, Angela Sarafyan, Luke Hemsworth, Talulah Riley, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Louis Herthum, Simon Quarterman, and Rodrigo Santoro. Season 2 adds new faces, including Gustaf Skarsgard, Fares Fares, Neil Jackson, and Katja Herbers.

“Westworld” Season 2 premieres Sunday, April 22 on HBO.

  • ‘Westworld’ Fans React to Clue-Filled Season 2 Poster, and Yes, They’re Excited

“Westworld” fans got something Thursday that made them very, very happy: an intriguing, new poster and more clues.

HBO posted the image on Twitter after having sent fans looking for clues that led to it. Luckily, their hunt paid off with a striking poster and additional Season 2 leads. The poster features what looks like a mechanical vulture next to a familiar black hat and blood. In the background, there’s a stormy sky with foreboding gray and red clouds. Above all this is the message, “Chaos takes control.”

Fans seem more than pleased with the fruit of their labor (or perhaps that of others). Numerous people shared their reaction to the new poster on Twitter, and their excitement is palpable. Many of them didn’t even bother with words, letting GIFs say it all.

Some didn’t get swept up in excitement, though. Instead, they kept their detective hats on and looked for still more clues — and found them, of course. Thanks to their sharp eyes, we know now that the poster leads to a video you can watch at the website DiscoverWestworld.com/FindtheDoor, as Refinery 29 reported.

The release of the poster and teaser coincides with the start of the one-month countdown to “Westworld” Season 2. The hit HBO drama series returns April 22 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.

  • Tessa Thompson’s Love of Goats Inspired the Most Adorable Meme

Tessa Thompson is on a serious hot streak — from “Thor: Ragnarok” and “Westworld” to “Creed,” “Annihilation,” and the buzzy upcoming movie “Sorry to Bother You.”

But at heart she’s just a girl who loves goats. And now she’s a girl happily being compared to goats on Twitter.

Thompson recently told ShortList that goats are her favorite animals:

“I’m really, really fond of goats. I want to adopt a pygmy goat and name it Gal Dagoat, because Wonder Woman rocks. Goats are huge now, on the internet, but I’ve been a fan for ages. It’s like when your favorite indie band starts getting recognition. I’m happy, but also… stay away from my goats, you know?”

Her fans doubled-down on the goat love, with someone creating a Twitter feed devoted to “tessa as goats.” Tessa approved:

She asked everyone to follow the account, and other fans picked up the baton and created their own side-by-side Tessa as goats comparisons:

ADORABLE. The blue dress one is just next level.

This is her thing now, so she has to prepare for getting goat comparison tweets from now until eternity. But there are worse fates.

Tessa Thompson’s “Sorry to Bother You” opens in theaters July 6th. “Creed II” opens November 21st. “Westworld” Season 2 premieres April 22nd on HBO.

  • ‘Westworld’ Star Jeffrey Wright Teases Bernard’s Season 2 Challenges, Conflict

In “Westworld” Season 1, Jeffrey Wright‘s character, Bernard, had the “robot bomb” dropped on him, as the actor puts it; Season 2 will show the fallout.

Wright discussed the hit HBO drama’s upcoming sophomore season with Deadline during SXSW, and he shed some light on his character’s journey. Needless to say, Bernard will be facing some challenges and conflict after finding out he is actually a host and then being forced to shoot himself. The turmoil has only begun for the park’s former head of programming.

After the physical trauma of Season 1, Bernard is going to be dealing with “health issues” and “cognitive challenges,” Wright said. On top of that, he’ll have to figure out the emotional side, too.

“He’s in a pretty peculiar, kind of unique position in that he’s got… allegiances to both sides,” Wright said, “and I think that’s part of the consideration for him.”

For Bernard, that in part means having an “awakening” like the other hosts. He’ll have to find an answer to the question of “Where am I in all of this?,” according to Wright. Naturally, the actor didn’t reveal what conclusions Bernard will reach, but we look forward to finding out in Season 2.

    Watch the video below.

“Westworld” Season 2 kicks of April 22 on HBO.

  • Missing ‘Westworld’ Characters Will Be Seen Again in Season 2

It’s a big “Westworld” out there and we’ve only begun scratching the surface.

Season 1 of the sci-fi show ended on a major cliffhanger, with a violent end to the violent delights of Robert Ford’s (Anthony Hopkins) new narrative. He was shot and killed by Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood), the hosts amassed to take over the park, and Maeve (Thandie Newton) nearly escaped to the real world.

Several other characters whereabouts remained unknown, but co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have teased their Season 2 futures to Entertainment Weekly.

Let’s start with programmer Elsie Hughes (Shannon Woodward) and security chief Ashley Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth). Elsie was attacked while exploring an abandoned part of the park. In later episodes, Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) seemed to have memories of strangling her. As for Stubbs, he was taken hostage by Ghost Nation hosts who were able to override his commands.

Both are still alive, the showrunners said, if in difficult situations. “They’re finally getting to experience Westworld as guests and not in the managerial halls, but I’m not sure they’re enjoying their experience,” Joy said.

As for other characters in very hot water, the Man in Black (Ed Harris) was facing a firing squad of angry hosts, but he will survive. “He gets a bit of damage done to him, that’s for sure,” Harris told EW.

And Jimmi Simpson will be back as the younger version of William, as the show explores the early days of the park and sheds light on how he gained so much influence with park owners Delos.

Speaking of Delos, executive director Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson) “causes trouble,” Joy said.

“She went from this controlled person playing this chess game with Ford. He takes out her king and queen in one fell swoop. Now she’s left at the mercy of the hosts like everyone else.”

“Westworld” Season 2 premieres April 22 on HBO.

  • HBO Building Real ‘Westworld’ Outside Austin For South by Southwest

These violent delights have violent ends — though hopefully not at South by Southwest.

HBO is building a version of the iconic park from sci-fi drama “Westworld” outside Austin, Texas during the upcoming SXSW Festival.

Fans will have a chance to “Live Without Limits” in the two-acre themed park that includes re-creations of locations from the show, including The Coronado hotel and the Mariposa Saloon. A teaser video promises, “No guidebook, no orientation, no regrets.”

Visitors will start the experience by getting picked up in a Delos shuttle in Austin and then getting assigned a black or white hat. That’s a nod to how park attendees in the show begin their journey in Westworld; for instance, William (Jimmi Simpson) picks a white hat, but as fans know, he eventually dons a black one when he gets older (and is played by Ed Harris).

The park will be filled with “hosts,” played by actors (who will NOT have sex with guests). There will also be Western-themed food, real horses, and embedded clues to the show’s many mysteries.

The experience will run March 9-11. Visitors must pre-register at DiscoverWestworld.com to get on the list.

“Westworld” Season 2 premieres April 22.

  • ‘Westworld’ Season 2 Trailer to Debut During Super Bowl

The park is about to reopen.

HBO will air a trailer for “Westworld” Season 2 during Sunday’s Super Bowl LII, according to Entertainment Weekly. The sci-fi Western drama is returning sometimes this spring, likely in April.

The trailer is directed by series co-creator Jonathan Nolan and will feature footage exclusive to it — meaning, stuff that won’t be on the show.

EW also shared an image from Season 2 of Jeffrey Wright as Bernard, looking very perturbed as an eerie figure looms behind him. It looks like the initial stage of an AI host’s body.

    Westworld

The “Westworld” Twitter account posted a video of a series of messages from inside the park, one from an unknown user asking for help and others from Delos executive director Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson) insisting all was well on the scene. Of course, all is not well, as viewers know; Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) was shot by Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) after the Journey Into Night narrative’s unveiling.

The Twitter video slyly hinted at the show’s Super Bowl presence by mentioning “boots on the ground in Minneapolis.”

This is HBO’s first Super Bowl ad in two decades; it has only bought two spots before, in 1997 and 1998, to promote the network as a whole.

  • ‘Westworld’ Star James Marsden Urges Fans to Let Season 2 ‘Unfold in Its Own Time’

Spoilers are always out there, but “Westworld” fans won’t go looking for them.

The actor, who plays host Teddy Flood, recently opened up to EW about the acclaimed HBO sci-fi western thriller’s upcoming second season, teasing what’s to come only vaguely. Although he offered general information, Marsden encouraged fans to “let it unfold in its own time.”

“The more that’s kept a secret, the more reward the audience is going to have when they watch it,” he said. “The best way to watch this show is to let it come to you.”

Marsden did, however, promise that fans “will not be disappointed” by Season 2 and explained that it “feels so much bigger.” It has an expanded scope, more filming units, and even a larger cast.

“The world that we created will be completely expanded upon, and the themes and the philosophies will all be taken to the next degree,” Marsden said.

That information is in line with what the show’s co-creator Jonathan Nolan told THR in December 2016 about how they were following up their successful first season.

“We wanted each season to increase in that ambition and in the scope of the show,” he said. “It also follows the story of our hosts. Their lives begin in loops, and then expand and change and grow. It’s an origin of a new species. We want to follow that story all the way to the bitter end.”

Season 2 will definitely be an interesting continuation — it’ll just be up to you whether you want to take Marsden’s advice or not.
