    • The ‘Game of Thrones’ movie is reportedly moving forward at Warner Bros.
    • ‘House of Cards’ and ‘Andor’ writer Beau Willimon is at work on a script.
    • The movie may be impacted by Paramount buying Warners.

Back before ‘Game of Thrones’ wrapped up its small screen run, there was talk that showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss wanted to end the story with three movies in cinemas, a prospect that HBO bosses shot down.

But the idea of a ‘GOT’ movie didn’t go away, and in late 2024 chatter began about new development. Things have been quiet since then as Warner Bros. focused instead on prequel series ‘House of the Dragon’ and the recent launch of ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’, though news has now arrived of someone actually developing a film.

Beau Willimon, no stranger to political shenanigans after developing ‘House of Cards’ for Netflix and to big-scale IP following his contributions to ‘Star Wars’ series ‘Andor’ is, according to Page Six, working on a script.

What’s the potential story for a ‘Game of Thrones’ movie?

HBO's 'Game of Thrones.' Photo: HBO.
HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones.’ Photo: HBO.

Both Page Six and a recent Hollywood Reporter profile of ‘Thrones’ novelist George R.R. Martin have pointed to a focus on Aegon I, who birthed the dragon-happy Targaryen dynasty and united six of the seven kingdoms through bloody conquest about 300 years before the original series (the iconic Iron Throne is forged from swords captured from those his armies defeated in battle).

It’s certainly fertile territory for ‘Thrones’ to explore, and indeed it appears HBO is also looking at a TV take on the idea.

What could impact the new ‘Thrones’ movie?

Perhaps the biggest question hanging over a film is what happens when/if Paramount’s purchase of parent company Warner Bros. Discovery goes through, as new regimes have a bad habit of throwing out projects developed by predecessors.

Still, ‘Thrones’ is one of the prime money earners for Warners, so we doubt the new bosses would want to entirely step away from Westeros.

Given the critical success of the first season of ‘Star Wars: Andor’ in 2022, it’s perhaps not shocking that a key component of that show’s creative team would be snapped up to work elsewhere in Lucasfilm’s universe.
And now, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Beau Willimon –– previously most famous for creating Netflix’s ‘House of Cards’ and who was on Tony Gilroy’s writing team for ‘Andor’ –– is aboard to co-write what is still known as ‘Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi’ with director James Mangold.

‘Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi’ looks to dig into a time a long, long, looong time ago in that galaxy far, far away.

Announced in April last year at Star Wars celebration, the film has been wrapped in secrecy since then.

Here’s what Mangold said at the time:

“When I first started talking to Kathy Kennedy about doing one of these pictures, what occurred to me was thinking about what kind of genre of movie within ‘Star Wars’ I wanted to do. And I thought about a biblical epic, like a ‘Ten Commandments’, about the dawning of the Force. Where did the Force come from, when did we discover it, when did we learn how to use it?”

It’s certainly one we’re excited to see.

What is happening with ‘Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi’?

(L to R) Director James Mangold, Dave Filoni, and director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy at Star Wars Celebration 2023.

Right now, the movie is simply in development as Mangold, who directed ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ for Lucasfilm, is busy making Bob Dylan biographical movie ‘A Complete Unknown’, starring Timothée Chalamet as Dylan (and recently put the first official picture from the movie online).

But with Willimon aboard to co-write, the new ‘Star Wars’ effort should now pick up some momentum.

When will ‘Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi’ be in theaters?

The movie has yet to confirm a release date, though given Mangold’s schedule, we can’t imagine it’ll be before 2027. And Lucasfilm/Disney have been busy filling release dates recently…

While ‘Dawn of the Jedi’ is not yet at a point that it can aim for a release date, Disney has confirmed some the release news for various projects.

Fellow ‘Star Wars’ big screen effort ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ has now May 22nd, 2026, date, with Disney and Lucasfilm figuring that the armored warrior and his little green pal can win the Memorial Day weekend that year.

In Pixar news, ‘Toy Story 5’ will see Woody, Buzz and the gang back for a new entry on June 19th, 2026.

And the live-action version of ‘Moana’ is on the move, shifting later in the year partly because of the release of ‘Moana 2’ (which is out November 27th this year), and the new movie will now land on July 10th, 2026.

Tron: Ares’, meanwhile, is set for October 10th, 2025.

Andrew Lincoln Makes List of World’s Highest-Paid TV Actors for Final ‘Walking Dead’ Season

    AMC

Andrew Lincoln has joined Forbes‘ list of the 10 highest-paid TV actors for the first time.

That time coincides with 1) his final season — only five episodes — of “The Walking Dead“; and 2) Kevin Spacey being dumped from “House of Cards.”

As Forbes noted, the only actor on the 2018 list to drop off the previous year’s ranking is Kevin Spacey, who was axed from his lead role of Frank Underwood in the final season of “House of Cards.”

It’s possible that if Spacey hadn’t been called out for so many alleged misdeeds, and filmed his final season, he would’ve taken Lincoln’s spot.

Apparently Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) made $11 million for his five episodes of “The Walking Dead” Season 9. Forbes suspects Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) will replace Andrew Lincoln on this list next year, since Reedus reportedly negotiated a raise to stay on after Lincoln leaves.

The ranking charts earnings from June 2017 to June 2018. Forbes said the 10 actors on this list made a combined $181 million, down from $185 million in the same period last year. It really is tough out there for men!

Most of these actors are familiar from making this list every year for their high-rated comedy series:

That list is going to break wide open once “The Big Bang Theory” and “Modern Family” end. TBBT is ending after Season 12, so we’ll see how this ranking shakes up after that.

“The Walking Dead” has long been the most-watched and highest-rated cable show, but it has taken MAJOR hits in the past couple of years. This year, so far, is TWD’s lowest-rated yet in that advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic.

AMC has already revealed Andrew Lincoln’s final episode airs in early November. It’s possible the show will slide even further into ratings oblivion without him. Then again, the hardcore fans who watch every week seem to be sticking with it to the end. As long as they stick around, AMC may continue long into the double digit seasons.

House of Cards Season 6 teaser still

The Underwood presidency isn’t going to be any less dramatic just because there’s a new Underwood in the Oval Office.

Netflix released a new “House of Cards” Season 6 teaser, and although the final season is bringing big changes, one thing will remain constant: political chaos. In the teaser, we see Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) delivering a speech about her first 100 days in office, and she describes them as “difficult.”

While Claire’s voters seem to be excited about her, there are definitely people in the political world who aren’t happy. Bill Shepherd (Greg Kinnear), for example, angrily talks to Claire about “promises [that] were made” — ones she reminds him she’s not responsible for. Later, we hear someone say, “Our president scares me,” and somebody else say, “We’ve got to get this woman out of there.”

Claire, however, may not be fazed. She announces at one point in the trailer that the “reign of the middle-aged white man is over” and that “it’s going to be different for you and me.”

    Watch the trailer below.

“House of Cards” Season 6 starts streaming on Netflix on Nov. 2.

Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) clearly isn’t in mourning for her late husband, Francis “Frank” Underwood (Kevin Spacey).

Netflix’s new teaser for “House of Cards” Season 6, the final season, shows the widow at the former president’s grave — revealing they buried Frank in his family’s “backyard,” next to the father he despised.

Claire takes a moment to throw some final shade at her predecessor:

“I’ll tell you this, though, Francis. When they bury me, it won’t be in my backyard. And when they pay their respects, they’ll have to wait in line.”

Ah, Claire. Still cold. Still petty. We missed you.

    So Frank is dead?

    (Like Kevin Spacey’s career?)

It’ll be interesting to see how they kill off the POTUS.

Unless this is a fake-out. But it doesn’t seem like it could be, considering all of the behind-the-scenes drama, and the fact that Kevin Spacey won’t be in this season at all.

What else are they going to do — send Frank into Witness Protection?

Kevin Spacey was fired from “House of Cards” after multiple allegations of misconduct, including from people who worked on the series.

Netflix decided to move forward with a shortened final season without Spacey — and Frank Underwood. So Robin Wright is now at the helm for the final eight episodes, following President Claire Underwood.

“House of Cards” Season 6 premieres November 2 on Netflix.

Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) has assumed her place as the new head of the White House, but nothing ever really goes according to plan on “House of Cards.” And a batch of photos from the Netflix show’s upcoming sixth and final season introduce some new characters who are surely about to put up some major roadblocks for the new POTUS.

The images feature a first look at new characters played by Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear, who star as Annette and Bill Shepard, a pair of siblings who’ve just inherited their influential family’s massively wealth industrial conglomerate, Shepard Unlimited. According to Netlfix, the sister and brother are “powerful behind-the-scenes force in the American political landscape [who] share a vision for the future of America, as well as a complicated past with the Underwoods.”

Considering who the Underwoods are, that “complicated past” language may be a bit redundant. Still, their addition — along with Cody Fern (“American Crime Story,” “American Horror Story”), who’s playing Annette’s “ambitious and devoted son, who represents the next generation of DC power players” — should inject some juicy drama into the streaming series.

“House of Cards” has already weathered its fair share of behind-the-scenes drama during production of season six, which saw star Kevin Spacey fired from the show late last year. The actor was accused of sexual misconduct by fellow actor Anthony Rapp when Rapp was only 14, and many members of the “House of Cards” crew soon came forward with tales of their own harassment and abuse at the hands of Spacey. It was later announced that Wright would assume the mantle of the show’s leading character, and the series would wrap with a shortened sixth season.

That final outing debuts on Netflix on November 2.

The future is female in “House of Cards.”

Netflix revealed the release date for the Emmy-nominated drama: November 2 — just four days before the midterm elections. It also unveiled a poster for the sixth and final season of the political drama and Robin Wright’s Claire Underwood is clearly relishing her role as Madame President.

The poster is an homage to the key art for Season 1, which depicted Kevin Spacey’s Frank Underwood sitting in that chair with bloody hands. Spacey was fired from the show following multiple sexual misconduct allegations.

The final season will focus on Claire’s tenure as Commander-in-Chief. Wright will be joined by new cast members Diane Lane, Cody Fern, and Greg Kinnear, as well as returning stars Michael Kelly, Jayne Atkinson, Patricia Clarkson, Constance Zimmer, Derek Cecil, Campbell Scott, and Boris McGiver.
