  • 5 Things You Need to Know Before You See ‘Deadpool’

%Slideshow-363095% This year’s crop of superhero movies kicks off early with “Deadpool.”

This latest addition to Fox’s X-Men franchise puts the spotlight on the weirdest and most irreverent hero in the Marvel Universe. Plenty of Marvel movies have delivered laughs, but none have done it Deadpool-style.

To help you prepare for this highly-anticipated, completely inappropriate superhero film, here are five things you need to know before you see the Merc With the Mouth in action.

  • A ‘Deadpool’ Sequel, Featuring Cable, Is Now Being Written

If you leave a “Deadpool” showing this weekend, begging for more Merc with a Mouth, you are in luck. Insiders told The Hollywood Reporter that studio 20th Century Fox has already given the green light to a “Deadpool” sequel, with a script now being written by the same screenwriters, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

THR said “Deadpool” director Tim Miller hasn’t signed on (yet) to direct this sequel, but Fox wants to keep the original band together. Obviously that would have to include Ryan Reynolds — who is promoting this movie like his life depends on it. It seems like he’s invested in this character for the long haul, although it has to be exhausting to be “on” as much as he has been in the past few months.

Back in September, producer Simon Kinberg told Collider they were already hopeful that there would be another “Deadpool”:

“We certainly are talking about the sequel—we were talking about the sequel while we were making the movie just because when you make a film like this that’s from a serialized source material, you hope that it’s the first of many. But yeah [Fox is] feeling good about it, we’re all feeling really proud of it, so hopefully before it comes out we will be well into the process of figuring out a sequel.”

At the time, he said the sequel would most likely include the comic book character Cable, but added that talk was “premature.” However, ComicBook.com updated February 9 to confirm the “X-Men” character Cable will be involved in the sequel.

Who is Cable? Here’s ComicBook.com’s description:

“Created by Rob Liefeld, Cable is the son of Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor who made his first appearance in New Mutants #87. A grim, serious character, he’s been a frequent foil for Deadpool, especially in the time since Deadpool was established as genre savvy, the differences between the two make for some interesting chemistry and solid humor.”

Meanwhile, the first “Deadpool” movie — which currently sports an 81 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes — hits theaters this Friday, February 12. The hard R-rated film is meant to have two post-credits scenes, and one of them may just give some hints on what’s to come.

  • ‘Deadpool’ Will Have Two Post-Credits Sequences

A post-credits sequence has become a standard feature of superhero movies, and “Deadpool” is no different. But in keeping with the offbeat flick’s unconventional approach to the genre, the film will feature not one but two special bonus surprises for fans willing to stay in their seats for a bit longer.

That’s the word from the film’s screenwriter and the artist behind the original “Deadpool” comic series, who both said on social media this weekend that there was an additional top-secret scene awaiting moviegoers that not even those who attended previous fan and critic screenings had seen so far. Writer Rhett Reese teased on Twitter, “There’s a second coda that won’t arrive ’til the movie screens in theaters.”

And artist Artist Rob Liefeld — who co-created Deadpool with writer Fabian Niecza in the ’90s — also told fans on the social media site that they should stick around for a double dose of post-credits goodies when the flick hits theaters later this week.

We’re dying to know what was so special — and potentially spoilerific — that the creatives decided to hold it until the actual release day. The wait is almost over: “Deadpool” drops on Friday, February 12.

  • Here Are Some of the Raunchy Jokes Cut From ‘Deadpool’

Nancy Grace: You have multiple name-drops ahead!

First, it was noted that the “Deadpool” trailers show Miller’s character, Weasel, comparing Ryan Reynolds‘s gruesome face as Wade Wilson/Deadpool to “the inside of other people’s a–holes,” a “topographical map of Utah,” and “an avocado [that] had sex with an older avocado,” etc. So Zimbio asked about other ways Weasel described his face that didn’t quite make the cut.

    Here’s Miller’s response:

“Well, we didn’t get one in that I really loved which was, ‘You look like a trucker took a sh-t on your shoulder and shaved the ears off either side.’ That did not make the cut. ‘You look like you pulled the inside of your a–hole out of your back and reached into your neck and pulled your anus all the way through and wrapped it over your head.’ We also have some other ones that are pretty complicated: ‘You look like if all the veins of all the men’s penises in this room jumped onto your head.’ Here’s another one: ‘You look like Nancy Grace. You are just as detrimental to the culture of fear that you’re engendering in America as she is.’”

Gorgeous. Zimbio had a good follow-up, asking Miller, “For the record, what does Ryan Reynolds’ face look like to you?” In real life? Well, Miller answered, “It looks like a less attractive Nancy Grace, if that’s possible.” Somehow we can’t see Blake Lively marrying a less attractive Nancy Grace, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Needless to say, whenever this bad boy drops on Blu-ray/DVD it should have some a–kicking bonus features.

  • First ‘Bourne 5’ Trailer Among Movie Promos Expected at 2016 Super Bowl

Are you ready for your first look at “The Bourne Betrayal”? Or “The Bourne Deception”? Or “The Bourne Something Else Entirely”? Matt Damon‘s return as Jason Bourne is still just being called “Bourne 5,” but the official title and first trailer will supposedly be revealed this Sunday during the 2016 Super Bowl.

That scoop came from author Eric Van Lustbader, who took over the Boune series from Robert Ludlum. The author posted this news on Facebook, then deleted it:

BREAKING NEWS! The first trailer for the new Bourne film will be shown during this year’s Superbowl telecast. At that time I believe you’ll find out the title of the film. (I know it, but I’m sworn to secrecy). So tune in on February 7th to check out all the excitement. I, for one, can’t wait!!!

Not sure why he removed that post, unless he was asked to. Previous to that, he wrote on January 18 that “My new Jason Bourne novel, due out in June will, indeed, be called ‘The Bourne Enigma.’” There are currently 12 books in the Bourne series, and any one of the unused titles could end up the title of “Bourne 5.”

“Bourne” isn’t the only film expected to make good use of the massive TV showcase that is the Super Bowl. The Hollywood Reporter shared a rundown of studios expected to promote upcoming titles.

“Deadpool” will have a major presence, they said, as Ryan Reynolds’s film hits theaters next week. THR said the cast of “Independence Day: Resurgence” — including Liam Hemsworth and Jeff Goldblum — will be at the Super Bowl, and events are planned for that movie, plus “X-Men: Apocalypse” and “Eddie the Eagle.”

THR said Paramount will advertise “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows” during the game. Sources told the site Disney may also promote multiple titles, along they didn’t say which ones. The options include “The Jungle Book,” “Captain America: Civil War,” “Zootopia,” “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” “Finding Dory,” and “Rogue One.” In addition to giving us at least the “Bourne” title, THR said Universal may also promote “The Huntsman’s Winter War” and “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising.”

Basically, keep your eyes open for all kinds of movie trailers, amid the sea of Budweiser ads. And this is your last chance to throw down an official guess for the title of “Bourne 5,” which is meant to follow “Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world.”

  • There’s a ‘Deadpool’ Director’s Cut That’s ‘Even More Raw’

Deadpool” has already landed itself an R rating from the MPAA, and has been banned in China for its graphic violence and nudity. But why stop there? According to one of the film’s stars, there’s also a director’s cut of the flick, and it’s even raunchier than what will be seen on the big screen next month.

That intel comes courtesy of actor T.J. Miller, who was chatting with fans alongside titular star Ryan Reynolds following a fan screening of “Deadpool” in London this week. During the Q&A session, Miller confirmed that director Tim Miller also had an unrated version of the controversial flick up his sleeve, presumably waiting for fans on home video.

“When you see the full director’s cut of it, that’s gonna be even more raw,” T.J. Miller promised fans at the screening. “It’s pretty heavy duty.”

It’s interesting that the director wants to push the envelope even further, considering he was given pretty much endless freedom to depict all the sex and violence he wanted from the beginning (producers promised the flick would earn an R long before it went before the MPAA). But apparently, Tim Miller’s vision for this “X-Men” spinoff really verged on the X-rated at times. Thankfully, if you’re into that sort of thing, you can check it out on Blu-ray and DVD in a few months.

In the meantime, the much more tame, R-rated “Deadpool” is due in theaters on February 12.

  • ‘Deadpool’ Banned From China Release Over Graphic Violence, Nudity

The filmmakers behind “Deadpool” have prided themselves on the flick’s “hard R” rating, promising to deliver a different, more graphic breed of superhero movie to fans. Now, that plan has prevented the film from debuting in China, the second-biggest movie market on the planet.

According to local media reports (as translated by The Hollywood Reporter), Chinese officials have denied “Deadpool” permission to screen in the country, despite its Marvel affiliation. The country often works to assure Marvel movies release in China, since the flicks are quite popular there; unfortunately for “Deadpool,” its self-boasted coarse language and graphic violence and nudity were its undoing.

Here’s how the decision unfolded, per THR:

China’s censorship authorities often work with the Hollywood studios to create cleaned-up special cuts of R-rated movies, but sources close to the Deadpool decision say it wasn’t possible to excise the offending material without causing plot problems.

China has no ratings system, so the country’s media regulator, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT), makes an up-down judgment on all film imports, approving or banning them for consumption by Chinese viewers of all ages.

Though the folks at Marvel (and parent company Disney) are no doubt bummed over missing out on the lucrative Chinese market, we have a feeling that those closely involved in the “Deadpool” production are probably pretty proud of their movie being banned. The Merc With a Mouth would no doubt approve.

“Deadpool,” starring Ryan Reynolds as the titular antihero, is due in U.S. theaters on February 12.

  • ‘Deadpool’ Got You a New ‘Extra NSFW’ Red Band Trailer for Christmas

Guess you were naughty this year — Deadpool certainly was — ’cause you got the NSFW “Deadpool” trailer for Christmas. Deadpool is a different kind of superhero, as he notes in the new trailer; he’s a wise-ass with a smart mouth and his movie is a hard R, so the red band trailers are really the only ones worth watching.

Star Ryan Reynolds, who seems to be having a blast just promoting the movie, tweeted out links to both the nice trailer (boring!) and the naughty one:

Your first clues to the red band status are Deadpool talking about turning someone into a “f–king kebab,” then chatting about his own a–. We get the origin story for Deadpool as a superhero/superslave, offering the rare opportunity for terminal cancer to be treated as funny and badass. “Whatever they did to me made me totally indestructible … and completely unf–kable.” (“You look like the inside of other people’s a–holes.”)
The trailer also shows Deadpool with his new buddies, Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead, the latter being too busy tweeting to help out in a fight.

Watch the trailer. Careful, don’t swallow!

“Deadpool” hits theaters February 12th, 2016.

  • Check Out the Cheeky New ‘Deadpool’ Poster

deadpool, deadpool poster, international poster, ryan reynoldsLike its previous promos and social media posts, the latest bit of “Deadpool” advertising is playful and funny — and quite cheeky, too.

A new international poster for the flick was released by 20th Century Fox UK, and features our hero in a coy pose modeled after the famous vintage Coppertone Baby ads. Ryan Reynolds‘s Merc With a Mouth has his hand on his posterior and is turned ever-so-slightly to the camera, a finger raised to his lips in mock innocence.

The tagline, however, is anything but, touting the hero as “Bad ass. Smart ass. Great ass.” Fox UK’s tweet takes the derriere wordplay one step further, citing Deadpool as “a hero with worthwhile assets.” Indeed.

Despite the lighthearted campaign it’s been waging so far, this flick will be plenty dark, too — so much so that filmmakers guaranteed it would land a “hard R” rating. Producer Simon Kinberg called the movie “graphic,” while director Tim Miller said the majority of the film took place “in strip clubs and dive bars and crappy apartments and far away from the shiny X-Men world.”

“Deadpool” also stars Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T. J. Miller, Gina Carano, and Brianna Hildebrand. It’s due in theaters on February 12, 2016.
