  • Ellen Readies Dakota Johnson for ‘Fifty Shades’ Sequel With Naughty Props

    dakota-ellen-50-shades

Forget about Grey, it was more like Fifty Shades of blushing for Dakota Johnson.

The “Fifty Shades of Grey” actress couldn’t help but to nervously giggle when Ellen DeGeneres gifted her with a round of raunchy toys when she appeared on the comedienne’s talk show to promote an entirely different film, the gangster biopic “Black Mass.”

Though she revealed that filming for “Fifty Shades Darker” begins “sometime in the New Year,” DeGeneres insisted that she be prepared well in advance.

“I want to give you some props,” the host said before brandishing a naughty sex toy, but she failed to think of its name. “This is a flogger,” Johnson explained to her. Of course, as the star of the hit S&M film, Johnson should now be an expert when it comes to intimate novelties.

“And this is, y’know,” DeGeneres said, handing over a whip as Johnson nodded affirmatively. “And then we have the ‘Ellen’ blue handcuffs,” DeGeneres continued, showcasing her logo on yet another bedroom plaything. “These are beautiful,” an impressed Johnson remarked. The props were all light blue with black trim and featured sparkling rhinestones.

DeGeneres concluded the gifts with a blanket with the words emblazoned across the center, ‘Ellen’s got you covered,’ explaining, “If you’re in (a film) and you have hardly anything on and they yell ‘cut,’ we have that (blanket) and they’ll just wrap you in it.”

Johnson catapulted to fame after her sexy flick “Fifty Shades of Grey” proved to be a hit with fans of the E.L. James book series when it debuted over Valentine’s Day weekend. The erotic drama follows Johnson as a naïve college student’s romance with a hunky sadist.

Understandably, Johnson’s mother, Melanie Griffith, publicly said last year that she had no plans to see her daughter in the romp fest.

Still, DeGeneres pried to see if her famous mother and father, actor Don Johnson, ended up watching the movie anyway.

“Has your dad seen it? Has your mom seen it?” she quizzed the brunette, who looked relived to say they had not. “Has your grandmother seen it?” DeGeneres continued, “Yes!” Johnson joked. “Tippi saw it?” referring to Johnson’s maternal grandmother, “The Birds” actress Tippi Hendren.

While she admitted that her grandmother has not watched the film, she said her entire family would be proud of her performance opposite Johnny Depp in “Black Mass.”

She stars as gangster turned FBI informant Whitey Bulger’s (Depp) girlfriend in the drama, which opens Friday.

  • How Dakota Johnson Pulled Off that Baaahhston Accent

Dakota Johnson was under a lot of pressure to nail a convincingly wicked kewl Boston accent.

To pull off Beantown’s authentic sound for her role as Whitey Bulger’s girlfriend in “Black Mass” – playing opposite Johnny Depp – the Austin, Texas native tells Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show” Wednesday that it was a matter of life or death.

“If you mess it up, [Boston natives] might kill ya,” the “Fifty Shades of Grey” star jokingly admits.

Not keen on upsetting Bostonians, Johnson says she practiced with a dialect couch and mingled with the locals. “I have a thing with eavesdropping,” she tells Fallon. “If I was at a restaurant or places, I would just listen to the accent and practice.”

Naturally, the game-loving late-night host puts her ear and tongue to the test with a challenge on worldwide accents, from French to Australian – and she hits the accents out of the pawk.

In the biopic, hunky Depp makes a transformative appearance as Whitey Bulger, a balding, blue-eyed mobster turned FBI informant. Presently Bulger is now incarcerated for life on charges connected to 19 murders, among other crimes.

“It’s about Whitey Bulger,” she explains, “who made an alliance with the FBI to bring down the Italians in Boston and also he did a lot of terrible things.”

    “Black Mass” opens Friday.

Producers of the “Fifty Shades of Grey” sequel are trying to rope in director James Foley.

The 61-year-old is reportedly negotiating a deal to helm “Fifty Shades Darker,” which will see Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan reprising their roles in the hit raunchy flick, Deadline reports.

Foley replaces the S&M film’s first director, Sam Taylor-Johnson, who exited the trilogy in March after it proved to be a hit following its February release. The second installment is due in theaters in 2017.

Previously Foley directed 12 episodes of Netflix’s drama series “House of Cards, but his last full-length big screen feature was Halle Berry and Bruce Willis’ 2007 thriller “Perfect Stranger.”

  • Johnny Depp Is Scary as Hell in New ‘Black Mass’ Trailer

Black MassWho’s worse: a violent, cutthroat gangster — or the law enforcement that lets him get away with murder?

That’s the set-up of the new trailer for “Black Mass,” the movie about notorious crime boss Whitey Bulger (Johnny Depp). The first teaser was all about Depp — gunning down people, menacing others, and generally being a badass gangster.

This one gives us more of the plot: Whitey rises to power in South Boston, thanks to friends in the right places — including his brother, Billy (Benedict Cumberbatch), who’s a star politician. His biggest ally is FBI Agent John Connelly (Joel Edgerton), who looks the other way on Whitey’s criminal activities.

    Watch the trailer.

“How come no one has nailed Whitey Bulger?” wonders Assistant U.S. Attorney Fred Wyshak (Corey Stoll). When Connelly brushes him off, asking what Bulger has done, an incredulous Wyshak replies, “Everything!”

This new trailer shows us more of the other, non-Depp players in “Black Mass,” and they all look good, from Cumberbatch and Stoll to Jesse Plemons and Dakota Johnson. But this is Depp’s movie, and as in the first teaser, he looks incredible. He’s unrecognizable, which is a very good thing. Depp’s become a caricature of himself in recent year, and this could be the performance to bring him back into critical acclaim and awards contention.

“Black Mass” opens in theaters September 18.

  • New ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Book Tells Story From Christian’s Perspective

There are two sides to every kinky sex story, and Christian Grey is about to share his two cents in a new book called “Grey.” Author E.L. James is releasing a special version of the “Fifty Shades of Grey” story, written from Christian’s perspective, on June 18, which is also the character’s birthday.

The original “Fifty Shades of Grey” — which was adapted into a moving starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan — is from the perspective of Anastasia Steele. Author E.L. James issue a statement on the new book (via Variety):

Christian is a complex character and readers have always been fascinated by his desires and motivations, and his troubled past. Also, as anyone who has ever been in a relationship knows, there are two sides to every story. It’s been a great pleasure to return to my happy place-writing, being with Christian and Ana in their universe, and working with the fantastic team at Vintage.”

She also shared a look at the book cover on Instagram:

The “Fifty Shades” trilogy has sold 125 million copies worldwide. The second movie, “Fifty Shades Darker,” is scheduled for a February 10, 2017 release. The third movie, “Fifty Shades Freed,” is scheduled for February 9, 2018. No word on whether they’d make a movie from “Grey” but probably not … right? Would it be too repetitive or be even more enticing than seeing things from Ana’s view?

  • New ‘Black Mass’ Trailer Is Surprisingly Funny, But Does It Glorify Whitey Bulger?

The first trailer for “Black Mass” revealed the danger of sharing family recipes, and the second trailer — released over Memorial Day weekend — showcases Johnny Depp‘s Whitey Bulger making more speeches, killing more people, and charming at least one old lady.

This time, Bulger shares some not-so-wise advice for his son: “It’s not what you do, it’s when and where you do it, and who you do it to or with. If nobody sees it, it didn’t happen.” Dakota Johnson’s Lindsey Cyr responds, “Jimmy, he’s 6. You really think that’s the best thing to be telling a kid?” Bulger’s response: “Yeah.”

Yeah, best to learn early not to get caught. The rest of the trailer is mostly filled with action shots, typical gangster stuff — guns, money, club scene — set to the song “The Devil Is a Lie” by Rick Ross featuring Jay Z, and punctuated by the reminder that this is about “The. Most. Feared. The. Most. Wanted. The. Most. Notorious. Gangster in U.S. History.” Check it out:

They’re definitely going out of their way to make sure we know it’s cool and badass to be a gangster, even beyond casting Johnny Depp — made less attractive by hair and makeup, but still Johnny Depp — as the real-life South Boston criminal. The objective may not be to glorify Bulger, but it’s hard to argue that the trailer doesn’t sell him as a fascinating character while selling Depp as an Oscar contender.

The quip with the kid, and the scene at the end with the old lady, hint to a good amount of humor in the movie. (More shades of Jack Nicholson in “The Departed.”) So far we’re still only getting quick flashes of the supporting cast, including Benedict Cumberbatch, Peter Sasgaard, Joel Edgerton, etc. The trailers focus on Depp, who may indeed get himself awards for this, if he can convincingly portray Bulger and not just distract viewers with his jarring transformation. Those eyes!

“Black Mass” is scheduled for release on September 18.

  • See the Sexy First Photo From ‘Fifty Shades Darker’

"Fifty Shades Of Grey" - UK Premiere - Red Carpet ArrivalsThis is quite a hot-and-heavy week for “Fifty Shades” news. The whole “Fifty Shades” mania started because of author E.L. James, and her own husband, Niall Leonard, was hired to write the script for “Darker.” If you’re interested in getting caught up, the first movie, “Fifty Shades of Grey,” is coming out on DVD/Blu-ray on May 8.

  • ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Stars Are Seeking Big Raises for Sequel

The cost of entry to the Red Room of Pain might get a LOT higher.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, “Fifty Shades of Grey” stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson are asking for hefty raises to film the sequels. The publication’s sources say the actors each received $250,000 for the first movie, and signed three-picture deals. But now that “Fifty Shades” is such a big box-office hit – generating $528 million worldwide – Dornan and Johnson want to renegotiate their salaries for “Fifty Shades Darker” and “Fifty Shades Freed.”

It’s not unusual for stars of blockbuster franchises to ask, and get, more money; that was the case for both “Twilight” and “Hunger Games.”

And with both the first movie’s director, Sam Taylor-Johnson, and writer, Kelly Marcel, not expected to return for the sequels, Universal will likely do what it takes to keep some of the magic-making team together.

  • Best of Late Night TV: Taylor Swift’s Jumbotron Dancing, Britt From ‘The Bachelor’ Defends Herself (VIDEO)

If you’re like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of what happened last night on late night.

Taylor Swift was on “The Tonight Show” Tuesday night, and Jimmy Fallon told her he was really upset because she dances all the time now, but that used to be their exclusive thing. They were “famous Jumbotron dancers.” Jimmy shared “random” Jumbotron footage showing the two of them going for it. Love how they flip the popcorn every time. Funny bit. The people in the background are the best. Taylor and Jimmy also cemented their new BFF status by drawing each other without looking.
Kristen Bell was on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to talk about Dax Shepard’s 40th birthday and their two young daughters, Lincoln and Delta. They almost forgot Dax’s 40th b-day because they were in that new baby haze. Kristen said Dax named their second baby Delta, without knowing there was a woman named Delta Burke. He thought he made up the name for a girl. Kristen also talked about how she was such a stubborn kid as a child and insisted everyone call her Smurfette. Then Matthew. Then Annie. They settled on Annie and some people still call her that. Jimmy Kimmel also video-chatted with Britt from “The Bachelor.” Jimmy said his wife and her friends all want Britt as The Bachelorette, and she seemed very happy about the idea. Did Britt have any idea that Carly did not like her? She only found out about the puppet thing when she watched the show back. Britt said she wasn’t lying about her Iowa reaction. She does shower. And she’s still working as a waitress, except now people don’t tip her so much because she’s “famous” and they assume she was well-paid to be on “The Bachelor.” Dakota Johnson was on David Letterman’s show and she told Dave that her mom, Melanie Griffith, told her to tell Dave that she (Melanie) loves Dave. Melanie was on the show a lot and she brought Dave handcuffs one time. Dakota: “So, are you my dad?” They discussed the origin of her name. She thinks her parents stole the name from friends’ parents who were also about to have a baby. She was supposed to be named Ruby but Don Johnson thought Ruby Johnson sounded like a stripper’s name. Jack McBrayer and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog were on “Conan” to promote their new show, and Conan O’Brien called out the puppeteer as the worst “f–king puppeteer” ever.” Triumph shared his censored NBC jokes and there are also web-only Andy Richter jokes. “The Walking Dead” star Lauren Cohan was also on “Conan,” talking about her first Hollywood job as a waitress. She was in over her head, and had one customer who was a real jerk. When he left the table to use the bathroom, his own friends told her to pretend to have a nervous breakdown when he came back. She went for it with a full meltdown – and someone from CBS casting was actually in the restaurant and told her to call. Lauren also said she wants a zombie apocalypse Fitbit to count all her steps on TWD. Conan thinks the zombies should wear them, since all they do is walk. Lauren thinks zombies should advertise the Fitbits. Brilliant! Taraji P. Henson was on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and Seth decided to audition for “Empire” on the spot. He wants to be in Cookie’s posse. He said her father inspired her character. Matthew Perry was also on Seth’s show and he talked about how he almost turned down “Friends” in 1994 because he was committed to another show called “LAX 2194” about futuristic LAX baggage handlers. Haha.
