    Paramount

Jean-Luc Picard is welcoming more new people to his upcoming “Star Trek” series.

The CBS All-Access show starring Patrick Stewart has added three series regulars to the cast: Alison Pill (“The Newsroom”), Harry Treadaway (“Penny Dreadful”) and Isa Briones (“Hamilton”).

They join previously announced stars Santiago Cabrera and Michelle Hurd.

Details about their roles have not been released yet.

The still-untitled series focuses on Stewart’s Jean-Luc Picard as the Enterprise captain faces the next chapter of his life.

According to executive producer Alex Kurtzman, Picard’s life is “radically altered” after the dissolution of the Romulan Empire.

The Picard series is one of several developing”Star Trek” series bidding to join “Star Trek: Discovery.” They include a “Discovery” spinoff starring Michelle Yeoh, an animated series titled “Lower Decks,” and a Starfleet Academy project.

CBS All Access Wants ‘One Day at a Time,’ But Netflix Still Has Veto Power

    Netflix

The good news: CBS All Access wants to save “One Day at a Time.” The bad news: Netflix has the power to shut that down.

Vulture reports that CBS All Access has submitted an official bid for at least one more season of the beloved series, which stars Rita Moreno and Justina Machado.

However, Netflix’s deal with production company Sony means it can nix any move to a streaming network for at least two years after cancellation.

“One Day at a Time” executive producer Norman Lear has reportedly  reached out to Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos personally to okay the deal with CBS. (The original series, which ran from 1975–1984, was on CBS.)

As of today, the CBS deal is a no go, alas. But all parties are reportedly still in negotiation.

Outcry over “One Day at Time’s” cancellation – and Netflix’s faux regret over that announcement – were fierce.

Here’s hoping they can work it out.

  • Extended ‘Twilight Zone’ Trailer Gives a Chilling Deep Look into Jordan Peele’s Mind

Extended ‘Twilight Zone’ Trailer Gives a Chilling Deep Look into Jordan Peele’s Mind

    CBS All-Access

This is Jordan Peele’s world and we’re (gladly) just living in it.

The Oscar winner is riding high on the huge success of his second feature, “Us.” And now, he’s about to present his reboot of “The Twilight Zone,” which debuts April 1 on CBS All-Access. April Fool’s indeed.

Peele serves as the executive producer and narrator of the reboot, much like Rod Serling did for the seminal sci-fi/fantasy/horror/thriller series that first ran from 1959 to 1964.

The new trailer features a bunch of chilling new footage, with flashes of some of the later episodes we haven’t seen yet. Most of the characters look anxious or panicked, as they confront strange occurrences, suffer from paranoia, and generally feel like reality is getting warped.

As one character says, “When the world is trying to tell you something, it will repeat itself until you get it.”

The series consists of 10 episodes and boasts an all-star cast including:
Ike Barinholtz, John Cho, Taissa Farmiga, Ginnifer Goodwin, Greg Kinnear, Sanaa Lathan, Tracy Morgan, Kumail Nanjiani, Seth Rogen, Adam Scott, Rhea Seehorn, Allison Tolman, Jacob Tremblay, Jessica Williams and Steven Yeun.

“Twilight Zone” premieres April 1 with two episodes. After that the anthology will air weekly Thursdays starting April 11 on CBS All-Access.

  • Santiago Cabrera, Michelle Hurd Join Jean-Luc Picard-Focused ‘Star Trek’ Series

Santiago Cabrera and Michelle Hurd split
    HBO; NBC

CBS All Access’ untitled “Star Trek” series centered on the next chapter of Jean-Luc Picard has added two new stars: Santiago Cabrera and Michelle Hurd. The two actors join Patrick Stewart, who will reprise his role as Captain Picard from the iconic series “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”

CBS All Access announced the casting Monday but did not reveal character details. The two actors are both experienced, though. Cabrera comes to the project having recently starred in CBS’s “Salvation” and HBO “Big Little Lies.” Meanwhile, Hurd starred in NBC’s “Blindspot” and recently had a role in Fox’s “Lethal Weapon.”

The upcoming series is the latest addition to the Star Trek franchise on CBS All Access. The network debuted “Star Trek: Discovery” in 2017, which is currently in its second season. Executive producer Alex Kurtzman has teased that the new series will be “extremely different,” and sources told Moviefone in August that it is set after the events off 2002’s “Star Trek: Nemesis.”

The new show comes from CBS Television Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Executive producers include Stewart, Kurtzman, James Duff, Akiva Goldsman, Michael Chabon, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth, and Aaron Baiersis set to serve as co-executive producer.

  • Stephen King’s ‘The Stand’ Limited Series Ordered by CBS All-Access

Stephen King’s ‘The Stand’ Limited Series Ordered by CBS All-Access

    ABC

Stephen King’s “The Stand” is finally coming to the screen again.

CBS All-Access has ordered a 10-episode limited series based on the classic 1978 post-apocalyptic novel.

“The Stand” was previously adapted into a miniseries that aired on ABC in 1994, which starred Gary Sinise, Molly Ringwald, and Rob Lowe.

Since then, a movie adaptation has been in development hell. In 2011, director David Yates (“Harry Potter”) was attached to a “Stand” feature film at Warner Bros. After his departure, Ben Affleck circled the project, then Scott Cooper (“Crazy Heart”).

In 2014, Josh Boone (“The Fault in Our Stars”) was reportedly hired to write and direct, with Matthew McConaughey playing one of the lead roles. Boone revealed on Kevin Smith’s podcast that he planned on making four films based on “The Stand.”

But in 2016, Warner Bros. put the feature film plans on hold and rights to the novel reverted back to CBS Films. King himself said in September 2017 that his novel might become a series on Showtime or CBS All-Access.

Now, it’s full steam ahead on the streaming service.

“I’m excited and so very pleased that The Stand is going to have a new life on this exciting new platform,” King said in a statement. “The people involved are men and women who know exactly what they’re doing; the scripts are dynamite. The result bids to be something memorable and thrilling. I believe it will take viewers away to a world they hope will never happen.”

“The Stand” is set in a world decimated after an apocalyptic pandemic and embroiled in an elemental struggle between good and evil. The fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old Mother Abagail and a handful of survivors. But they must contend with a man of unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg, the Dark Man.

Come April, your next stop will be “The Twilight Zone.”

The upcoming reboot of the anthology series is headed to CBS All Access, and TCA attendees learned the premiere date during a presentation Wednesday. The show will arrive on CBS All Access on April 1, as Julie McNamara, the service’s executive vice president of original content, announced.

The show is a modern reimagining of the original series from Rod Sterling, which ran for five seasons from 1959 to 1964. CBS announced plans to bring the show back in December 2017, and production began on Oct. 1, 2018 in Vancouver, British Columbia. “The Twilight Zone” comes from CBS Television Studios in association with Monkeypaw Productions and Genre Films. Peele and Simon Kinberg are executive producing alongside Win Rosenfeld, Audrey Chon, Carol Serling, Rick Berg, and Greg Yaitanes.

The first two episodes hits CBS All Access on Monday, April 1, and subsequent episodes will arrive weekly on Thursdays, starting April 11. You’ll have to be a CBS All Access subscriber to watch.

Four more actors are entering “The Twilight Zone.”

Taissa Farmiga, Rhea Seehorn, Luke Kirby, and Ike Barinholtz are set to star in an upcoming episode of the CBS All Access original series, as CBS announced Monday. It is a modern reimagining of the iconic series that ran from 1959 to 1964. So far, character details remain under wraps.

Percy Hynes-White has also landed a key role in the episode, and Jordan Peele serves as the host and narrator. Other actors that have joined the series include John Cho, Greg Kinnear, Sanaa Lathan, Kumail Nanjiani, Adam Scott, Alison Tolman, Jacob Tremblay, Jessica Williams, DeWanda Wise, and Steven Yeun.

The upcoming CBS All Access series comes from CBS Television Studios, Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw productions, and Simon Kinberg’s Genre Films. Peele and Kinberg are both executive producing, as are Win Rosenfeld, Audrey Chon, Glen Morgan, Carol Serling, Rick Berg, and Greg Yaitanes.

“The Twilight Zone” reboot’s premiere date has not yet been announced.

  • Michelle Yeoh ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Spinoff Confirmed by CBS All Access

Michelle Yeoh ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Spinoff Confirmed by CBS All Access

    Russ Martin/CBS

Yet another “Star Trek” spinoff series is coming to CBS All Access, fronted by a familiar face from the new “Trek” universe.

The streaming service has confirmed earlier reports that Michelle Yeoh, who plays Capt. Philippa Georgiou on “Star Trek: Discovery,” will be reprising that character in a new spinoff series centered around Georgiou’s work with the shadowy Starfleet intelligence organization, Section 31. The character will also be appearing in the upcoming second season of “Discovery,” presumably laying the groundwork for this new, as-yet-untitled series.

“I’m so excited to continue telling these rich ‘Star Trek’ stories,” Yeoh said in a statement. “Being a part of this universe and this character specifically has been such a joy for me to play. I can’t wait to see where it all goes — certainly I believe it will go ‘where no woman has ever gone before!’”

Writers Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt are developing the series, and according to executive producer Alex Kurtzman, the duo will “bring a fresh perspective to the world of ‘Star Trek’ … and the next wild chapter in the life of Captain Philippa Georgiou.”

This new drama is one of several “Star Trek” projects Kurtzman is developing for CBS All Access. A series exploring the continuing adventures beloved “Next Generation” character Jean-Luc Picard (Sir Patrick Stewart, who’s reprising his role) is set to debut later this year, and an animated “Trek” series is also in the works.

Sounds like “Star Trek” fans have plenty to look forward to in the coming years. Make it so, CBS.

Buckle up for “Star Trek: Discovery” Season 2.

The new season is slated to arrive in January, so CBS All Access has revealed a featurette called, “What to Expect in Season 2.” Not only does it feature commentary from some of the stars of the show, there is exclusive footage for the new episodes. It looks like there are big developments coming.

One exciting part of the video is that it teases the Discovery coming into contact with the Enterprise. There’s an “awkward” meeting, as Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) describes it, because Star Fleet has ordered him to take command of the ship. That means we’ll get a chance to uncover more of his backstory, and Mount hints it’ll be fascinating.

“Speaking as a fan, we’ve always wanted to know more about Pike,” Mount says in the featurette. “It’s such a mysterious history.”

There’s plenty of other intriguing insight in the video. Watch below.

“Star Trek: Discovery” Season 2 premieres Jan. 17 on CBS All Access.

Two ships, one fight for the future.

CBS All-Access released a new trailer for “Star Trek: Discovery” Season 2, which teams up the titular ship’s crew with the USS Enterprise. Now, this is the Enterprise of yore, led by Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and the young Vulcan officer Spock (Ethan Peck).

They join the Discovery in a dangerous new battle involving the Red Angel, a being that foretold the end all sentient life in the galaxy.

The new mission brings together adopted siblings Spock and Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), who clearly have a contentious relationship.

Into the tense mix come Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh), now a covert ops officer, and Ash Tyler (Shazad Latif), who was revealed to be the former Klingon Voq.

“Star Trek: Discovery” Season 2 premieres January 17 on CBS All-Access.
