  • Colton Haynes Will Return to ‘Arrow’ as Series Regular in Season 7

    He’ll be back — again!

“Arrow” series regular in Season 7.

Haynes debuted Roy Harper/Arsenal as a recurring character in “Arrow” Season 1. That became a main role in Season 2-3, and then a guest role in Season 4 and Season 6.

Haynes just returned to the show in Season 6 episodes 15 and 16, as Roy agreed to accompany Thea (Willa Holland) around the world to destroy the remaining Lazarus Pits. That marked the final episode for Willa Holland’s Thea, but somehow Colton Haynes’ Roy is going to return as a series regular next season.

    Without her? Apparently?

The “Arrow” executive producers shared a statement on the news (via TVLine):

“We’re very fortunate and excited to welcome back Colton to Arrow. While we’ve always enjoyed Colton’s returns to the show, we couldn’t be more thrilled to have him return as a proper series regular — and we’re very excited about all the creative opportunities Roy Harper’s return affords us.”

Colton Haynes added his own simple statement:

“I could not be happier to return to my role as Roy Harper alongside my Arrow family.”

In addition to “Arrow,” Haynes has been busy with “Teen Wolf,” “American Horror Story: Cult,” “Scream Queens,” “The Grinder,” “San Andreas,” and “Rough Night.”

“Arrow” Season 6 is airing Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.

  • The CW Renews 10 Series Including ‘Riverdale,’ ‘Jane the Virgin,’ ‘Supernatural’

Looks like The CW was feeling generous this week: The network renewed 10 of its series for additional seasons.

The buzziest of the bunch is “Riverdale,” the modern-day twist on the “Archie” comic series, which will be back for season three in the fall. And there’s good news for some shows that were on the bubble, too: “Jane the Virgin” and “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” also made the renewal cut, despite dismal ratings.

Both “Jane” (which will be back for season five) and “CXG” (which will be back for season four) are likely to end their runs after those episodes, since producers had previously discussed having those specific number of seasons in mind when planning out their shows’ respective story arcs. Plus, “JtV” star Gina Rodriguez already spilled the beans about her series’s impending end.

Not likely to end anytime soon, though? The CW’s lineup of DC superhero series, which are all returning for the 2018-2019 season. And the Winchester brothers are proving that “Grey’s Anatomy” isn’t the only TV drama that can hang around for over a decade: “Supernatural” has been picked up for a 14th season.

The full list of renewed shows includes: “Arrow” (Season 7), “Black Lightning” (Season 2), “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” (Season 4), “Dynasty” (Season 2), “Legends of Tomorrow” (Season 4), “The Flash” (Season 5), “Jane the Virgin” (Season 5), “Riverdale” (Season 3), “Supergirl” (Season 4), and “Supernatural” (Season 14 ).

The flurry of renewals comes as The CW amps up its original programming, expanding into Sunday nights. No word yet on the fate of the just-moved freshman series “Life Sentence,” though with so much time to fill, the network may yet wind up throwing that show another season, too. Stay tuned.

  • ‘Arrow’ Vet Colton Haynes Is Returning to Show: ‘So Excited to Be Back’

Comic-Con International 2017 - 'Teen Wolf' Press LineSometimes goodbye is really more “see you later.”

That continues to be the case for former “Arrow” star Colton Haynes. The actor hasn’t wanted to stay away, and now he is coming back again in Season 6 … at least for a while. He’ll show up in Episode 15 and stick around for a multi-episode arc, Variety reports.

While back on the CW series, Haynes will reprise his role as Roy Harper, also known as Arsenal. He first took on the role in Season 1 as a recurring character, before being promoted to series regular for Seasons 2 and 3. He decided to leave the show once his contract was up but later returned for an episode during Season 4.

The show’s writers were all too happy to welcome Haynes back, tweeting that they “can’t wait for the fans to see what [they] have planned.”

“Arrow” star Stephen Amell was equally excited, and he took the chance to tweet Haynes, “Welcome Home!”

Of course, Haynes was happy, too, and he wrote that he was “so excited to be back with the [‘Arrow’] fam.”

We suspect it will be a homecoming fans will enjoy.

“Arrow” airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

  • ‘Arrow’ Star Stephen Amell Trolled Crew With Fake ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Spoilers

    These aren’t the spoilers you’re looking for…

“Arrow,” but he turned to The Dark Side on set to troll coworkers with fake intel about “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” The highly anticipated movie opens later this week, but it did have its big world premiere over the weekend. So it was possible that Amell had seen it in advance and knew what happened. It just turns out he was joking.

    Here’s what he confessed:

People who have seen “The Last Jedi” shared some non-spoiler reactions, and they are mostly-to-very positive. See for yourself tomorrow, Friday, or over the weekend — provided there are any tickets left near you.

Meanwhile, Amell’s “Arrow” will return from winter break on January 18, 2018 with Season 6, Episode 10, “Divided.”

  • Arrowverse Showrunner Andrew Kreisberg Officially Fired From The CW Shows

Never mind the “Crisis on Earth-X,” there’s an executive producer crisis to manage.

Andrew Kreisberg was a showrunner on “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” and “Arrow,” also executive producing “Legends of Tomorrow,” and “Vixen.” He also had an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television Group, the studio that produces the shows. All of that is now gone. Kreisberg was officially fired, after 15 women and four men came forward with allegations of sexual harassment/misconduct by their boss.

2016 Summer TCA Tour - Day 16The studio shared a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter), outlining the plan forward from here:

“After a thorough investigation, Warner Bros. Television Group has terminated Andrew Kreisberg’s employment, effective immediately. Greg Berlanti will assume additional responsibilities on both The Flash, where he will work closely with executive producer/co-showrunner Todd Helbing, and Supergirl, where he will work closely with executive producers/co-showrunners Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller. We remain committed to providing a safe working environment for our employees and everyone involved in our productions.”

2016 Summer TCA Tour - Day 16Greg Berlanti and Berlanti Productions’ head of television Sarah Schechter also shared a joint statement:

“Warner Bros. Television Group recently concluded its investigation into the allegations against Andrew Kreisberg. We encouraged and supported this investigation, we believe and support the individuals who came forward, and we agree with the studio’s decision. Nothing is more important to us than the safety and well-being of all our colleagues — co-workers, crew and staff alike.”

According to THR, production wasn’t interrupted, and the top producers visited the Vancouver sites of the four live-action shows to talk to the casts, crews, and others about what happened.

After the allegations initially came out about Kreisberg, and the investigation was launched, The CW stars Melissa Benoist, Chyler Leigh, and Emily Bett Rickards took to social media to support the people coming forward.

The CW just finished its four-way Supergirl/Arrow/Flash/Legends of Tomorrow crossover this past Monday and Tuesday.

  • ‘Arrow’ Star Katie Cassidy Reveals Father David’s Final Heartbreaking Words

9th Annual Family Television Awards - ArrivalsKatie Cassidy, daughter of former teen heartthrob David Cassidy, shared lessons from her father’s death.

“The Partridge Family” star David Cassidy “Arrow” actress Katie, 31, was his eldest daughter, from his relationship with model Sherry Williams. Katie has a younger half-brother Beau from David’s third marriage.

Katie followed in her father’s footsteps into acting, becoming a regular in The CW’s Arrowverse as Laurel Lance/Black Canary/Black Siren. She took to social media to share her father’s bittersweet and heartbreaking final words:

Wow. So much wasted time. David Cassidy had his struggles in life — from alcoholism to dementia and three marriages ending in divorce. But how sad for a man so famous and beloved for decades to wish on his deathbed that he had spent his time differently.

In lighter news, The CW’s superhero crossover starts tonight, with “Supergirl,” followed by “Arrow.”

  • ‘Arrow’ to Honor Billy Joel in a Strange Way

Billy Joel In Concert - New York, New YorkAn upcoming “Arrow” episode will pay homage to Billy Joel in quite the unusual way.

One of the CW series’ executive producers, Marc Guggenheim, is a big fan of the Grammy-winning musician, and because of this, the show will give Joel a dubious honor. When the villainous Cayden (Michael Emerson) decides to blow up a concert venue in an upcoming episode, it will be the Piano Man’s show that he targets.

“We wanted Cayden James to threaten a major event at Star City,” Guggenheim told EW. “A variety of ideas were discussed, but when we settled on a rock concert, I knew it had to be Billy Joel.”

Although some performers might be put off by their name being attached to the fictional threat — especially given recent terrorist attacks — Joel apparently didn’t mind. In fact, he gave Guggenheim permission when the producer reached out to him. Given how excited Guggenheim was about the idea, though, it would have been hard to say no. The producer shared that he’s been a Joel fan since he was 7.

“He’s always been an inspiration to me, personally and artistically,” Guggenheim said. “I told him as much when I wrote to him to ask for his permission to use his concert footage in our episode and when he agreed, it was one of the happiest days of my career.”

Probably no one will be happier than Guggenheim when Joel’s “No Man’s Land” plays in the episode.

“Arrow” airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

  • ‘Supergirl’ & ‘Arrow’ Stars Speak Out After Boss Suspended Over Sexual Harassment Claims

Comic-Con International 2016 - 'Supergirl' Special Video Presentation And Q&A“Supergirl” stars Melissa Benoist and Chyler Leigh, and “Arrow” star Emily Bett Rickards are hoping for a change in the culture.

They posted to social media shortly after Variety released a report on allegations of inappropriate behavior by Arrowverse executive producer Andrew Kreisberg. According to Variety’s report, 15 women and four men came forward with allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate physical contact by Kreisberg over a period of years.

Here’s a piece of that report:

“According to sources who either witnessed this behavior or were subjected to it, Kreisberg is accused of frequently touching people without their permission, asking for massages from uncomfortable female staff members, and kissing women without asking. Almost every source cites a constant stream of sexualized comments about women’s appearances, their clothes, and their perceived desirability.”

One woman said, “The workplace feels unsafe,” and another woman added, “He scares people.” None of the sources — all unnamed — went to HR, “because it seems like nothing’s been enforced.” But as word of Variety’s report spread, the outlet said human resources began interviewing women on the producer’s staff.

Variety's A Night In The Writers' RoomKreisberg denied any inappropriate touching or massages, telling Variety:

“I have made comments on women’s appearances and clothes in my capacity as an executive producer, but they were not sexualized. Like many people, I have given someone a non-sexual hug or kiss on the cheek.”

Warner Bros. TV Group told Variety in a statement that Kreisberg was suspended as they conducted an internal investigation:

“We take all allegations of misconduct extremely seriously, and are committed to creating a safe working environment for our employees and everyone involved in our productions.”

Melissa Benoist plays Kara Danvers/Supergirl herself, and without referencing Kreisberg by name, she shared this post on the harassment culture:

Benoist’s co-star and on-screen sister Chyler Leigh also posted:

Emily Bett Rickards, who plays Felicity Smoak across “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Vixen,” and “Legends of Tomorrow,” also spoke up:

  • The CW Reveals Two-Night Dates for 2017 Superhero Series Crossover

Mark your calendars now! The CW’s 2017 four-way superhero crossover will air across two nights this November, as opposed to four last year.

The CW is at the TCAs today, and they announced the first night of the crossover will be Monday, November 27, with “Supergirl” paired with “Arrow” — which means “Arrow” will move to Monday just for the special event. The crossover ends the next night with “The Flash” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.”

    Here’s a mini cheat sheet:

    • Monday, Nov. 27 (“Supergirl” and “Arrow”)
    • Tuesday, Nov. 28 (“The Flash” and “Legends of Tomorrow”)

Last year, the four shows crossed paths to battle the Dominators, across four nights. However, some fans complained that it wasn’t really a four-way crossover because the storytelling didn’t actually take place across all four shows. The action mostly focused on “The Flash,” “Arrow,” and “Legends,” with one epilogue scene for “Supergirl.” Back in Feburary, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said they were “hoping to do a true four-way crossover” this time.

This week, when addressing the change to two nights, The CW president Mark Pedowitz said (via Deadline), “Last year’s (crossover) was the most successful week in CW history in terms of ratings and everything. We felt in this particular case we had Flash on Legends paired, so it was better to make it two two-hour movies — a miniseries. We thought this was the best way to go. We had a lot of conversations with producers and marketing people. Next year, we might go back to four nights.”

  • 21 Things You Have to See at Comic-Con 2017

Comic-Con International: San Diego is the ultimate pilgrimage for geeks of all stripes. This is the place where hundreds of thousands of people descend to see the latest sneak peaks of upcoming movies, TV, games, and comics. Where they can bump elbows with celebrities and score all the exclusive swag they can carry.

Comic-Con is exciting, but it’s also an exhausting experience for everyone involved. We’re going to try to make things a little easier. Here are the biggest panels and events at this year’s SDCC that are worth battling the crowds to see.

    WEDNESDAY, JULY 19:

    1. Warner Bros: Special Sneak Peek Screenings (6:00-10:00pm Ballroom 20)As usual, Wednesday is “Preview Night” at SDCC, and it’s mostly geared towards collectors lining up to buy exclusive collectibles. But DC fans may want to make room for this event, as WB will be screening a new episode of “Teen Titans Go” and offering an early look at The CW’s “Black Lightning” and Syfy’s “Krypton.”

    THURSDAY, JULY 20:

    2. Anything Goes with John Barrowman (11:00-11:50am Hilton Bayfront – Indigo Ballroom)Anyone who’s ever attended a panel with “Arrow” and “Torchwood” star John Barrowman knows that he puts on a hell of a show.

We don’t know if the actor will reveal anything about his potential involvement in “Arrow: Season 6” at this panel, but it is safe to expect plenty of singing, dancing, and improv as Barrowman entertains his audience. It’s worth venturing outside the confines of the convention center for this one.

    3. 20th Century Fox (11:30am-12:30pm Hall H)This is the first big movie panel of the convention. We’re not sure what properties Fox will be focusing on, but expect new details on upcoming X-Men-related projects like “Dark Phoenix,” “Deadpool 2,” and “New Mutants.” Also, we will see footage from the “Kingsman” sequel.

    4. ‘Battlestar Galactica’ Reunion (2:30-3:30pm Ballroom 20)Last year’s SDCC offered a long-awaited reunion for the cast of 1986’s “Battlestar Galactica” reboot to get back together. If you’re a fan of this series, this is basically a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

    5. ‘Batman: Mask of the Phantasm’: Remastered and Ready (4:15-5:15pm Room 6A)Batman: Mask of the Phantasm” is one of the greatest Batman movies ever made, and it’s finally hitting Blu-ray this month. This panel will feature key players like Bruce Timm, Kevin Conroy, and Alan Burnett as they reminisce about the film and preview some of the remastered footage.

    6. Marvel Television: ‘Marvel’s Inhumans’ (6:15-7:15pm Ballroom 20)The MCU is expanding even further into the TV realm this fall as the Inhumans make their long-awaited debut. Executive Producer Jeph Loeb will moderate this panel as various guest stars stop by to tease what’s to come in the new ABC series.

    FRIDAY, JULY 21:

    7. ‘Young Justice’ Q&A (10:00-11:00am Room 6BCF)“Young Justice” fans finally got their wish earlier this year when it was announced that the animated series will be making its return via DC’s new streaming service.

Creators Greg Weisman and Brandon Vietti will be among those attending this panel, as they shed more light on what to expect from the third season and (hopefully) when it’ll be making its debut.

    8. ‘Fear the Walking Dead’/’The Walking Dead’ (11:15am-1:15pm Hall H)Once again, AMC will be taking over the coveted Hall H for a two-hour block as cast and crew members from both “Walking Dead” shows stop by to tease what to expect from upcoming storylines. The first hour will be dedicated to “Fear the Walking Dead,” with the second moving to “The Walking Dead.”

    9. ‘Game of Thrones’ (1:30-2:30pm Hall H)If you can score a seat for the “Walking Dead” panel, you might as well stick around for the next panel. HBO will be shedding more light on the just-premiered seventh season of “Game of Thrones,” with plenty of mystery actors showing up to tease what’s coming as the show moves towards its big finale.

    10. FOX’s ‘The Gifted’ (3:45-4:45pm Ballroom 20)We’re hoping to learn plenty about Fox’s upcoming X-Men movies at Thursday’s 20th Century Fox panel, but if you want to know more about the TV spinoff “The Gifted,” you’ll want to make room for this panel.

    11. ‘Marvel’s The Defenders’ (5:15-6:15pm Hall H)Marvel will follow up Thursday’s Inhumans panel with another TV-centric panel, this time focused on Netflix’s highly anticipated superhero team-up.

Jeph Loeb will again be in attendance, and we’re hoping he’ll be joined by Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, and Finn Jones. Is it too much to hope Sigourney Weaver might pop by, also?

    12. ‘Batman and Harley Quinn’ Premiere (Ballroom 20)DC’s next direct-to-DVD animated movie also happens to be a continuation of the much-beloved “Batman: The Animated Series,” one that forces Batman to join forces with Harley Quinn to defeat Poison Ivy and the Floronic Man.

And if you can’t wait for the movie’s August release date, you’ll get a chance to see it early at DC’s Friday night screening.

    SATURDAY, JULY 22:

    13. Warner Bros. Pictures (11:30am-1:30pm Hall H)JUSTICE LEAGUE (2017) (L-r)†EZRA MILLER as The Flash,†BEN AFFLECK as Batman and GAL GADOT as Wonder Woman Credit: Warner Bros. Pictures/ ô & © DC ComicsExpect this to be one of the more in-demand panels at SDCC this year. The focus will be on upcoming movies like “Justice League.” and “Blade Runner 2049,” as well as next year’s “Ready Player One.” Hopefully we’ll learn more about the next film in the “Fantastic Beasts” series as well. Look for director Steven Spielberg, actor Harrison Ford, and the entire cast of “Justice League” to headline this panel.

    14. ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ (2:30-3:15pm Ballroom 20)CBS’ highly anticipated new “Star Trek” series is getting its own panel. We don’t know which cast and crew members will be in attendance, but no doubt there will be new footage to show and more details about how this series will fit into the larger Trek universe.

    15. Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’ Season 2 (3:00-4:00pm Hall H)The second season of “Stranger Things” just got an October release date, and the series will be making its SDCC debut this year.

Expect various cast and crew to stop by to preview new footage and answer various fan questions.

    16. The CW Arrowverse Panels (3:30-6:30pm Ballroom 20)If you love The CW’s superhero shows and have three hours to kill, you’ll probably want to sit in on this mega-block of panels. All five series — “Supergirl,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” “The Flash,” “Arrow.” and the upcoming “Black Lightning” — will have 40-minute panels dedicated to teasing what’s to come in the fall season. We will also get a look at the new villains that will be threatening the Arrowverse this time.

    17. Robert Kirkman and Todd McFarlane in Conversation (3:30-4:30pm Room 6DE)As much as TV and film announcements have come to dominate SDCC in recent years, this is still a show geared towards comic book fanatics.

If you make a point of attending any comic-focused panel this year, it should probably be this one, where “Invincible”/”The Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman and “Spawn” creator Todd McFarlane have a one-on-one chat about the industry and reminisce about their respective careers.

    18. ‘Westworld’ Panel and Q&A (4:15-5:15pm Hall H)Help fill the wait until “Westworld” finally returns to HBO by attending this star-studded panel that features pretty much every major cast member not named “Sir Anthony Hopkins.” They’ll even be answering fan questions, though we imagine that will only do so much to address the show’s many lingering mysteries.

    19. Marvel Studios (5:30-7:00pm Hall H)Fans who attended the D23 convention this past weekend already got a good look at upcoming MCU projects like “Avengers: Infinity War.” That said, we expect Marvel’s Kevin Feige will have plenty more to reveal at this panel, which promises to be one of the busiest — and biggest — of the show. (Expect to see all or most of the Avengers cast on stage.)

    SUNDAY, JULY 23:

    20. ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’ Animated Series World Premiere (10:15-11:15am Room 6A)Spider-Man is getting a brand new animated series to capitalize on his new movie, and SDCC will be your first opportunity to see how “Marvel’s Spider-Man” stacks up to shows like “The Spectacular Spider-Man” and “Ultimate Spider-Man.” Marvel will be screening the two-part series premiere at this panel.

    21. Doctor Who (2:00-3:00pm Hall H)The BBC pretty much broke the Internet with the announcement that the next incarnation of Doctor Who will be a woman. Expect that announcement to be a big topic of discussion at this panel, which will also basically serve as the final bow for current star Peter Capaldi and showrunner Steven Moffat.
