  • ‘Breaking Bad’ Movie ‘El Camino’ Gets First Teaser, Release Date

‘Breaking Bad’ Movie ‘El Camino’ Gets First Teaser, Release Date

    AMC

The “Breaking Bad” sequel movie will be here sooner than anyone thought.

Netflix has dropped the first teaser for “El Camino” and announced the film’s release date: October 11. The film is also expected to be broadcast on AMC at a later date.

“El Camino” brings back star Aaron Paul as Jesse Pinkman and follows up on his fate after the AMC series finale. The official description of the movie says, “In the wake of his dramatic escape from captivity, Jesse must come to terms with his past in order to forge some kind of future.”

“Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan wrote and directed the movie.

The teaser features Skinny Pete (Charles Baker, reprising the role) telling law enforcement that he has no clue where Jesse is.

In the series finale, Walter White (Bryan Cranston) sacrificed himself to rescue his former meth-cooking partner Jesse from an neo-Nazi gang. Jesse fled, as Walt lay dying, in a stolen Chevrolet El Camino.

It’s unknown if Cranston or any other “Breaking Bad” alums will make an appearance in the film, via flashback or in the present time.

Fans were surprised recently when Bob Odenkirk, who stars in the “Breaking Bad” prequel series “Better Call Saul, revealed that the movie had already wrapped filming.

But in an interview with The New York Times, Paul confessed that filming had taken place even before the movie’s existence had been uncovered by the media. “The movie had already happened and was in the can. It was done,” he said.

When anyone asked him what he was doing during that time, the actor noted, “I just said I was doing this small little indie out in New Mexico and that was it. No one second-guessed it.”

Paul added, “I definitely had people asking, ‘Are you doing ‘Better Call Saul’?’ And I’d go, ‘Hey, man, I wish I was. But they’re on hiatus right now.’”

  • Bob Odenkirk Says the ‘Breaking Bad’ Movie Is Already Done Filming

    AMC

Turns out the “Breaking Bad” movie (which has nothing to do with Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston’s new line of alcohol), has already wrapped.

Talking to THR, Bob Odenkirk, who stars in the “Breaking Bad” prequel spinoff, “Better Call Saul,” said, “I don’t know what people know and don’t know [about the movie]. I find it hard to believe you don’t know it was shot. They did it. You know what I mean? How is that a secret? But it is. They’ve done an amazing job of keeping it a secret.”

The movie, which will focus on Paul’s character Jesse Pinkman, will debut on AMC and Netflix sometime in 2020.

Filming the movie is the reason Season 5 of “Better Call Saul” has been delayed. (Season 4 ended in October 2018 with Odenkirk’s character, Jimmy McGill announcing he’ll be practicing law under a different name: “S’all good, man.”

If you’ve been anxious to see Odenkirk finally become Saul Goodman, Odenkirk says, “They’ve been building it slowly but it’s turning. Now it’s turning rapidly, I would say. That’s similar to ‘Breaking Bad, too. This very slow buildup as we go up the roller-coaster ramp and then, it starts going downhill, it just cannot stop”

Odenkirk added “Season Five — which we’re shooting right now. — is just everything’s on fire, and it’s just burning down around us.”

He said, “I was worried about the audiences staying with us. We asked people to watch closely and to understand on a deeper level the characters and the plot, and you know what? They did.”

“The audience really impressed the hell out of me,” he said. “But I do think that it was all because of ‘Breaking Bad’ and not just because of the success of ‘Breaking Bad’… when ‘Better Call Saul’ started, they immediately were hooked into watching closely and not worrying about it getting somewhere but trusting that it would.”

  • Some Theaters Will Stay Open for 4 Days Straight for ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Premiere

Some Theaters Will Stay Open for 4 Days Straight for ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Premiere

    Marvel Studios

Marvel fans can’t wait to see “Avengers: Endgame” when it opens this week, and the country’s largest theater chain is leaning into that demand by giving the people what they want: The chance to watch the movie 24/7.

AMC Theatres announced that dozens of its locations across the nation will accommodate ravenous filmgoers this weekend, with several staying open for four consecutive days. The chain credited the unprecedented demand from MCU loyalists — who have already set numerous ticket presale records both domestically and abroad — for making the decision a no-brainer.

“AMC guests have already purchased more tickets to ‘Avengers: Endgame’ than we’ve ever sold in advance of a film’s release – and our first shows aren’t until Thursday evening,” said Elizabeth Frank, EVP of worldwide programming for AMC, in a statement. “With a desire to satisfy as many Marvel fans as possible on Thursday and through the weekend, AMC’s programming team is reviewing ticket sales theatre by theatre and adding showtimes later and later. In fact, there are multiple AMC locations that will be operating around the clock from Thursday night through Sunday.”

Here’s the breakdown of how many theaters will be catering to diehards:

    • 29 AMC theaters will be open around the clock Thursday through Friday
    • 18 AMC theaters will be open around the clock Thursday through Saturday, or Friday through Sunday
    • 17 AMC theaters will be open around the clock Thursday night through Sunday — more than 72 hours straight

To check if your local theater is among those participating in the 24/7 event, visit AMC’s official website.

“Avengers: Endgame” opens in the U.S. this Friday, April 26.

  • ‘Better Call Saul’ Star Says Show Will End After Season 6

‘Better Call Saul’ Star Says Show Will End After Season 6

    AMC

“Breaking Bad” spinoff  “Better Call Saul” may follow in its parent’s footsteps by ending after the sixth season.

Star Giancarlo Esposito, who plays drug lord Gus Fring, dropped the news in an interview with Collider.

Production recently started on Season 5 of the AMC drama, and when asked if it was the final installment, Esposito said, “It’s tricky with [co-creator Vince Gilligan].”

“If you look at the ‘Breaking Bad’ model, he said five years, five seasons … but it was really five and six,” he added, referencing the final season being split into two and broadcast a year apart.

So, like flagship, like spinoff. “There will be six seasons,” Esposito continued. “It seems like that’s the way, the comfortable way, to end this show.”

AMC declined to comment and sources told The Hollywood Reporter that the show’s endpoint is not set in stone. So far, the show is only renewed through Season 5.

Capping the show after six seasons does seem like a good plan. That would put its episode count close to that of “Breaking Bad.” And the timeline would make sense, with two seasons to detail Jimmy’s (Bob Odenkirk) transformation into Saul, what happens to Kim (Rhea Seahorn), the further descent of Mike (Jonathan Banks) as a criminal fixer, and the consolidation of Gus’s power. And there’d be time to flash forward to find out what happens to Jimmy/Saul in the future, when he’s hiding out as Gene the Cinnabon manager.

Season 5 of “Better Call Saul” is slated to premiere sometime in 2020.

Richard E. Grant, Sally Field Join AMC Anthology Series ‘Dispatches From Elsewhere’

    Fox Searchlight/Netflix

Jason Segel’s anthology series “Dispatches From Elsewhere” just added Oscar nominee Richard E. Grant and two-time Oscar winner Sally Field.

The hour-long series is about a group of ordinary people who discover a puzzle “hiding just behind the veil of everyday life”. The series will include “viewer engagement elements across multiple platforms.” So it’s not the next “Bandersnatch,” but maybe viewers will get to vote on plotlines?

The series is created by and stars “How I Met Your Mother” alum Segel. It’s scheduled to begin production on 10 episodes this summer in Philadelphia.

Eve Lindley, who is best known as “Hot Carla” on on “Mr Robot,” has also joined the cast.

Grant’s films include “Withnail and I,” “Logan,” and “The Iron Lady”; he was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for “Can You Ever Forgive Me?

Field (who also has 3 Emmys) most recent played Dr. Greta Mantleray on the Netflix mini-series “Maniac.”
