‘Twilight’ Director Reveals What She’d Change About the Film

    Twilight
    Summit Entertainment

More sparkle? Less lip-biting? Extended brooding? Nope!

Twilight” is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary, and CinemaBlend asked director Catherine Hardwicke what she’d change about the film if she could make it today. She wouldn’t change anything about the performances, or the chemistry between Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.

But, she told CB, she would change the effects:

“I think one thing is, we would have probably had a little bit more money to do some of the fun CGI things that I wanted to do, because CGI costs have come down. We could have done a few more fun stunts and things, because I wanted to do quite a bit more at the baseball stadium. I want to do quite a bit more… I had a lot more storyboarded for the end, the finale sequence. So I think we would have been able to afford a lot of that now. Yeah, that would have been fun.”

    Here’s the baseball scene:

Technology can help in some areas, but not with chemistry. Hardwicke told Us Weekly the fascination Pattinson and Stewart had for each other was clear and “powerful.” So powerful, in fact, that she felt compelled to emphasize to Rob that Kristen was underage at the time:

“You could just tell that they were intensely fascinated by each other. You know? I saw that right there in my own living room [at the first chemistry read]. I was like, ‘Oh, my God.’ I think when Kristen walked away I said, ‘Now, Rob, I want you to know, Kristen is underage. She is 17 and in our country, illegal.’”

The stars later dated, famously becoming “Robsten,” and then broke up. But 10 years have come and gone since the first movie, and everyone seems to have landed on their feet just fine.

“Twilight” is immortal to fans, and they can watch it in theaters once again in just a few days. “Twilight” will play in more than 450 movie theaters nationwide on October 21 and October 23, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. local time. American Horror Story, Jessica Lange
    FX

    Welcome home, Michael.

American Horror Story: Apocalypse” is the crossover season for “Murder House” and “Coven.” We’ve already seen several “Coven” witches, but not too much from the “Murder House” contingent — besides an older version of Antichrist baby Michael Langdon (Cody Fern).

That changes with Episode 6 — airing this Wednesday, October 17. That special supersized episode will take us back to Murder House. The episode is literally called “Return to Murder House,” and it was directed by none other than Sarah Paulson.

This week, we’ll revisit baby Michael’s family — Vivien Harmon (Connie Britton) is Michael’s biological mother, with Tate Langdon, aka Rubber Man (Evan Peters) as the father. Vivien’s husband Ben (Dylan McDermott) and daughter Violet (Taissa Farmiga) will also return.

And of course we’ll get to see Constance Langdon (Jessica Lange), who raised baby Michael.

AHS normally runs an hour, but this Wednesday’s Episode 6 will run for 78 minutes (or 55 minutes without commercials), starting at 10 p.m. on FX.

  • Live-Action ‘Tom and Jerry’ and Animated ‘Scooby Doo’ Movies Coming Soon

Live-Action ‘Tom and Jerry’ and Animated ‘Scooby Doo’ Movies Coming Soon

    Tom and Jerry
    Warner Bros.

    Zoinks!

A live-action hybrid “Tom and Jerry” movie is in the works at Warner Bros., with Tim Story (“Ride Along,” “Fantastic Four,” “Think Like a Man,” “Shaft“) in talks to direct.

Variety shared that news, along with an update on a new animated Scooby-Doo movie: Chris Columbus — director of “Home Alone” and the first two “Harry Potter” movies — has jumped on board as a creative producer.

Warner Animation Group is reportedly aiming for a balance of animation and live-action hybrid movies, with several versions of both in the works.

Space Jam 2” and “Wile E. Coyote vs. ACME” are two other hybrids currently in development. Variety said “Tom and Jerry” is expected to be the first such hybrid to film in 2019. According to their report…

“For that film, the plan is to shoot in the real world with animated versions of the familiar cat and mouse duo. Sources also say that since Tom and Jerry didn’t speak and relied on physical comedy to draw laughs, this version will stick to that style and not cast actors to voice the duo. That decision should also help add to the international appeal of the film.”

    WB

In terms of the animated Scooby-Doo movie, Variety said that one is expected to release in the first quarter of 2020. Chris Columbus will be producing alongside director Tony Cervone.

The Scooby gang was last seen on screen in the 2004 live-action hybrid “Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.” (Fun fact: That movie was written by James Gunn. So was the first “Scooby-Doo” movie in that franchise, in 2002. Gunn said his first cut for that was edgier and rated R.)

Other WB animated features still in development include “Jetsons,” “Flintstones” and “Wacky Races” movies.

  • ‘Fuller House’ May End With Season 4

‘Fuller House’ May End With Season 4

    Fuller House
    Netflix

Fuller House” Season 4 is coming to Netflix later this year. And that may be the end for the “Full House” spinoff/sequel.

Or it may not. When it comes to an official announcement … you don’t got it, dude. Not yet.

All we have to go on so far is the word from TVLine, a reliable source when it comes to TV news.

    According to that scoop

“…TVLine has heard that Netflix is seriously considering ending ‘Fuller House’ with its upcoming fourth season. When reached for comment, a Netflix spokesperson told TVLine, ‘No decision has been made about the future of Fuller House; we’re looking forward to the premiere of Season 4 later this year.’”

No reason for a (possible) cancellation was shared, but it’s worth noting that series creator Jeff Franklin was fired as showrunner between Season 3 and the upcoming Season 4. It’s possible that’s a factor, if the show does end after Season 4. Or maybe they’ve just told all the story they want to tell? Or the actors are ready to move on?

If the series does end, it would be nice for the Olsen twins to show up for a cameo. They probably won’t, and they don’t owe anyone anything, but it would still be nice for them to return to the “home” that made them rich and famous.

“Fuller House” Season 4 was filmed in September, TVLine reports, including guest stars Lee Majors and Lindsay Wagner (aka The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman) as a pair of retired detectives; plus Leslie Grossman; Maria Canals-Barrera; and Josh Peck.

Chris Evans Clarifies That ‘Avengers 4’ Tweet, Gives Big Bucky Tease

    Avengers: Infinity War
    Marvel Studios

Chris Evans is trying to backtrack from his potential Ruffalo.

It had already been reported that Evans planned to hang up his shield as Captain America/Steve Rogers after “Avengers 4.” Evans gave fuel to that fire on October 4 when he tweeted about wrapping “Avengers 4,” adding some poignant notes about playing the character for the past eight years.

It read like a goodbye. It read to many like a goodbye where Captain America probably dies. Fans were in tears. It got heavy.

    Avengers: Infinity War
    Marvel Studios

Evans was put on the spot during an appearance at ACE Comic Con in Chicago. He addressed the tweet and the intense emotional response it evoked (via Comicbook):

“I should clarify that I know I did tweet something that made a lot of people think that it was in someway a spoiler. I should clarify that regardless of how ‘Avengers 4’ ends, I would have tweeted the exact same thing. That last day of filming was a very emotional day and it was the culmination of almost 10 years of filming and 22 movies, this unbelievable tapestry.

You feel a lot more emotions than I think even I thought I’d feel. And I felt it was appropriate to share the gratitude. I know it had a ripple effect but I am neither confirming or denying anything.”

    Uh huh. OK.

Also at the Comic Con event, Evans was asked what it was like for his Steve Rogers to watch his childhood BFF Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) die two times — including Bucky’s dust-busting at the end of “Avengers: Infinty War.” Evans’ answer suggested some serious Stucky feels ahead:

“I think that’s one of the more precious relationships for Steve Rogers, you know. It’s one of the few relationships that’s been able to transfer into modern day. It’s one of the few relationships that he can identify as anything we would call home. I don’t know how far I can go into that response. Yeah, I’m going to have to maybe leave it there.”

Oh if you leave it there the fans will pick it up and run with it. But that’s fun too.

Bucky is “home.” That’s love. Is it also a hint to the “sacrifices” ahead?

“Avengers 4” has officially wrapped reshoots filming for everyone, not just Chris Evans. The film is scheduled to open May 3, 2019. We’re on standby to get the official title and some kind of teaser/trailer/official photos.

  • Batman Prequel Series on Alfred ‘Pennyworth’ Casts Young Star

Batman Prequel Series on Alfred ‘Pennyworth’ Casts Young Star

    Jack Bannon
    ITV

Before Alfred Pennyworth was Bruce Wayne’s right-hand butler/mentor, he was “a boyishly handsome, cheerful, charming, clever young man.”

He was also a killer for the British Army’s elite SAS special forces.

Epix has a 10-episode drama series coming up called “Pennyworth,” following young-er Alfred. The Batman prequel series just cast Jack Bannon (“The Imitation Game,” “Endeavour,” “Fury“) as Alfred for a story set in 1960s London.

At that point, Alfred was a former British SAS soldier who forms a security company with billionaire Thomas Wayne. (Thomas Wayne, aka Batman’s dad, hasn’t been cast yet.)

    Here’s Epix’s description for Alfred:

“Alfred Pennyworth is a boyishly handsome, cheerful, charming, clever young man from London. Honest, open-faced and witty; you’d never take him for an SAS killer. Alfred doesn’t know how to reconcile the kind-hearted boy he used to be with the cold, calculated killer he was forced to become. He’s a man on the make, who doesn’t know what to make of himself yet.”

“Pennyworth” comes from “Gotham” showrunner Bruno Heller but it’s not a “Gotham” spinoff. Unfortunately, Sean Pertwee, who plays a middle-aged (and still handsome) Alfred on Fox’s “Gotham,” will not be involved.

According to Collider, “Pennyworth” starts production on October 22 in the U.K. There’s no Epix premiere date at this point.

  • Lady Gaga Sets New Music Record as ‘A Star Is Born’ Soundtrack Debuts at No. 1

Lady Gaga Sets New Music Record as ‘A Star Is Born’ Soundtrack Debuts at No. 1

    WB

Is That Alright?” You bet it is!

Lady Gaga just reached a new milestone. She and Bradley Cooper co-star in the new film “A Star Is Born,” and they are also the lead artists on the smash hit soundtrack. That soundtrack dropped October 5 and debuted at No. 1, selling 231,000 units in the United States in its first week. According to Billboard, it was the biggest week for a soundtrack in more than three-and-a-half years.

The soundtrack marked Gaga’s fifth No. 1 album, and it’s also her fifth No. 1 album this decade. That marks a new record for women, surpassing her previous tie with Taylor Swift for four No. 1 albums in the ’10s.

    A Star Is Born
    Warner Bros.

Gaga previously had No. 1 albums with “Born This Way” (2011), “ARTPOP” (2013), “Cheek to Cheek” (2014), and “Joanne” (2016). Gaga is now tied with Kanye West, Future, and J. Cole with five No. 1 albums this decade. Justin Bieber has six No. 1 albums so far in the ’10s, and Drake is leading the pack with eight.

    20th Century Fox

“A Star Is Born” is already the third best-selling soundtrack of the year after just one week. The 231,000 units sold included 162,000 pure album sales; that already puts it close behind “Black Panther: The Album” with 223,000 albums sold. Top of the list is still “The Greatest Showman” at this point, with a total of 1.26 million albums sold in 2018, and 1.35 million if you also include its numbers from 2017.

“A Star Is Born” has taken second place on the box office charts for two weeks in a row, behind the Sony/Marvel comic book movie “Venom.”

  • ‘Sherlock’ Creators Making ‘Dracula’ Miniseries for BBC/Netflix

‘Sherlock’ Creators Making ‘Dracula’ Miniseries for BBC/Netflix

    Sherlock
    BBC/PBS

Who should play Dracula? Is it elementary?

Sherlock” creators and “Doctor Who” writers Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat are working on a “Dracula” miniseries with three 90-minute installments. The Bram Stoker adaptation will air on the BBC in the U.K. and Netflix elsewhere around the world.

Here’s a tease from Netflix (via Variety):

“In Transylvania in 1897, the blood drinking Count is drawing his plans against Victorian London. And be warned: the dead travel fast.”

Moffat and Gatiss (who also plays Mycroft Holmes in “Sherlock”) shared their own tease:

“There have always been stories about great evil. What’s special about Dracula is that Bram Stoker gave evil its own hero.”

Here’s more from Charlotte Moore, BBC director of content:

“Genius duo Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss turn their attentions to Dracula for unmissable event television on BBC One.”

And now Larry Tanz, VP of content acquisition at Netflix:

“We can’t wait to bring Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss’ brilliant storytelling to our members around the world and we are eager to collaborate on yet another series with the BBC.”

Maybe it’s too obvious with the “Sherlock” connection and “Doctor Strange” cape, but screw it — Benedict Cumberbatch should play Count Dracula. If you disagree, come up with your own suggestions.

  • Oscar Isaac Says ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ Filming Is ‘Looser’ With More Improv

Oscar Isaac Says ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ Filming Is ‘Looser’ With More Improv

Oscar Isaac, Star Wars: The Force Awakens
    Lucasfilm

Third time’s the charm? “Star Wars: Episode IX” is now filming, with “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams back at the helm.

Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron) praised Abrams to IndieWire, suggesting the more loose feeling on set this year comes from Abrams’ own confidence in his return to set.

Isaac also mentioned less pressure for the film to be “right,” which is probably a good perspective, since the fandom is very passionate but also very divided on what is “right.” Some fans were unhappy with Rian Johnson‘s “Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi.” Others loved it. Some fans also didn’t like “The Force Awakens” any more than they liked George Lucas’ prequels. Other fans loved all of those films. We are not The Borg, linked to one collective hive mind.

Isaac told IndieWire he plans to take a year off after filming “Episode IX,” just to take a break with his family after 10 years of non-stop acting work. But so far, he seems to be enjoying his third film in the Saga:

“The way they’ve been shooting it right now is looser than it’s been for the last two times. It does feel like a relief to get on set and feel like, ‘Oh, we can try things.’ It’s a testament to J.J. coming back and feeling confident. There’s less pressure for it to be right. We just want to make a good movie and have a really good time while doing it. […] Often, you do feel like you’ve got to find your way to make something more alive, but this time, it’s been the opposite. There’s no need to smuggle anything in there.”

Isaac jokingly compared this film’s improv to “Cassavetes in space.” Hopefully there’s a correlation between the enjoyment making the film and the enjoyment watching the film. They know they can’t please everyone, so it’s good that they are loosening the pressure valve and just telling the story they want to tell, with the characters we’ve come to know across three (or more) films.

“Star Wars: Episode IX” will be adding Dominic Monaghan, Matt Smith, and Keri Russell to the existing cast list — led by Daisy RidleyJohn BoyegaAdam DriverBilly Dee Williams, Mark Hamill, Kelly Marie Tran, and Carrie Fisher in previously unused footage.

“Episode IX,” which has yet to reveal its official title, is expected to keep filming until February. It’s scheduled to open in theaters December 20th, 2019.

  • ‘Avengers 4′ Wraps Filming: Fans Try Very, Very Hard to Decode Directors’ Image

‘Avengers 4′ Wraps Filming: Fans Try Very, Very Hard to Decode Directors’ Image

    Avengers: Infinity War
    Marvel Studios

    Avengers 4” has finished filming.

Reshoots = done. All of your favorites = done whatever they are going to do. Now post-production work kicks into high gear and continues into 2019.

But the intense fan speculation has only just begun.

It’s a good thing Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has movies planned until at least 2025. If the whole MCU ended with “Avengers 4” we’d miss the stars and characters, but we’d REALLY miss the obsessed fans.

MCU fans are a special breed — in a good way — and they tackle any clue with gusto. Sometimes they take it very seriously, sometimes they turn it into a joke. No matter what, they make the whole process fun.

The Russo Brothers understand this. They aren’t very active on social media, but when they do post something, they like it to be vague. They did this not too long ago with a black-and-white behind-the-scenes set photo, telling fans to “look hard.” They didn’t even say there were “Avengers 4” title clues involved, but fans came up with title clues anyway.

So Anthony Russo and Joe Russo decided to mark the official end of “Avengers” filming with this photo:

    https://twitter.com/Russo_Brothers/status/1050957806248054785

Those sonsofthunder knew exactly what they were doing. So fans got to work.

    https://twitter.com/sarcasm_goddess/status/1051155126885453824

Seriously. They don’t need to market the film at all. Don’t bother telling us the title. No trailer. Just keep posting random shots of crap around set and we’ll do the rest.

“Avengers 4” is currently scheduled for release May 3, 2019.
