    New on Netflix

This Thursday marks the start of a new month, and you know what that means — a bunch of new titles will be added to Netflix as of November 1, and several more will be leaving.

“Trolls: The Beat Goes On!” Season 4
It’s time to grab your dancing shoes for the new season of DreamWorks’ “Trolls: The Beat Goes On!” Season 4 starts streaming this Friday, November 2 on Netflix.

“Troll Village hosts all new sparkling parties with Poppy, Branch, and the Snack Pack. With colorful, new songs and adventures, the Trolls party it up like never before. Smidge thinks she has magical powers, Guy creates a new invention, Branch gets trapped in a dream, and Poppy hosts the biggest contest of the year for the ultimate hug watch prize!”

Check out this exclusive promo for the new season:

“They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead” (Netflix Original)
Great title. Also great subject, since this documentary — available November 2 — explores a chapter in the life of Orson Welles. “Academy Award winner Morgan Neville (’20 Feet from Stardom”) tells the provocative story of legendary director Orson Welles during the final 15 years of his life, when he struggled to make a Hollywood comeback with one last radical gamble. It’s the untold chapter of one of the greatest careers in film history.” Trailer.

“The Other Side of The Wind” (Netflix Film)
Pssst. If you watch the title above about Orson Welles, you might want to see this one too. It’s a satire of classic and new Hollywood that just debuted in 2018, although it was filmed from 1970 to 1976. “Surrounded by fans and skeptics, grizzled director J.J. ‘Jake’ Hannaford (John Huston) returns from years abroad in Europe to a changed Hollywood, where he attempts to make his comeback: a career summation that can only be the work of cinema’s most adventurous filmmaker, Orson Welles.”  Watch the trailer. This one will be in select theaters and on Netflix this Friday, Nov. 2.

“House of Cards” Season 6 (Netflix Original)
It’s HER turn. The final season of “House of Cards” arrives — sans Kevin Spacey — starting November 2. Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) is in charge, but she’s not finding the POTUS job much easier than her husband did before … *something* happened to him. Netflix is going to have to explain what apparently killed off Frank Underwood between Season 5 and Season 6. Here’s the official trailer.

    “The Holiday Calendar” (Netflix Film)
‘Tis the season for Christmas movies, and Netflix has a bunch of holiday rom-coms coming this month. This one — streaming Nov. 2 — stars Kat Graham as a woman whose life is stuck in a rut until her grandfather (Ron Cephas Jones) gifts her the antique advent calendar that belonged to her grandmother. The calendar is pretty magical, and romantic adventure ensues. Trailer.

    TV Worth Watching

    Halloween” franchise marathon (Monday-Thursday morning)Universal/Blumhouse

Since Wednesday is October 31, aka Halloween, why not celebrate with a “Halloween” movie marathon. AMC is ready to oblige, playing “Halloween” franchise films from Monday morning through Halloween as part of its AMC FearFest 2018 schedule.

“A Very Wicked Halloween: Celebrating 15 Years on Broadway” (Monday on NBC at 10 p.m.)
Tony Award winners Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth — the original Elphaba and Glinda — will reunite to host and perform in this “Wicked” special event celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Broadway hit. The televised concert will feature many special guests, including Ariana Grande.

    “Mickey’s 90th Spectacular” (Sunday on ABC at 8 p.m.)
Happy birthday, Mickey! This one doesn’t have much to do with Halloween, but it’s a two-hour star-studded event bringing in all kinds of Disney/ABC stars to celebrate 90 years of the beloved mouse.

“Outlander” Season 4 (Sunday on Starz at 8 p.m.)
Aye, it’s finally time to welcome Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) to the New World.  The reunited couple start a brand new journey November 4 on Starz. The 13-episode fourth season starts with “America the Beautiful”:

“Claire and Jamie cross paths with Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speleers), a pirate and smuggler who enlists their help. Claire illuminates Jamie on some of America’s history, leading him to wonder if it’s possible for them to lay down roots.”

    New on DVD and Blu-ray

Here’s what’s coming soon to Redbox.

“Teen Titans Go! To the Movies”Teen Titans Go to the MoviesWarner Bros.

Here’s a random idea: Have yourself a Nicolas Cage double-feature with this animated film — in which Cage voices Superman — and “Mandy” below. Two very different films brought together by a very different man. Or you could just watch this film on its own when it arrives on Blu-ray and DVD October 30.

The Blu-ray Combo Pack includes the Lil Yachty Music Video: “Teen Titans GO! Rap”; a sing-a-long with Silkie “DC Super Hero Girls: The Late Batsby” Mini-Movie; Red Carpet Mayhem; “Everything is Fake”: Exclusive song not in the movie; Teen Titans GO! To the Movies: WB Lot Shenanigans; Storyboard Animatics: Time Cycles; The Final Battle’ and more.

    “Mandy”
Panos Cosmatos‘ wild, stylish, critically acclaimed, and blood-soaked horror-thriller arrives on Blu-ray and DVD October 30. Nicolas Cage, Andrea Riseborough, and Linus Roache star in the film, which comes with deleted and extended scenes, and a look behind-the-scenes of the production.

    “Slender Man”
It’s Halloween. So even though this movie was panned by critics and audiences, it still fits the theme of the week. So here goes: Joey KingJulia Goldani TellesJaz SinclairAnnalise BassoAlex FitzalanTaylor RichardsonJavier Botet, and Jessica Blank all deserve better star in this horror film arriving on Blu-ray and DVD October 30. The release includes the featurette “Summoning Slender Man: Meet the Cast.”

Box Office: ‘Halloween’ Still Rules as ‘Hunter Killer’ (Sadly) Sinks

    Gerard Butler in Hunter Killer
    Summit/Lionsgate

    This … isn’t Sparta. It’s a fifth-place opening.

Gerard Butler‘s Hunter Killer was left fighting in the shade while four returning films stole the box office spotlight in the weekend before Halloween.

Despite an A- CinemaScore from polled moviegoers, and very high audience scores vs. critic scores, “Hunter Killer” had to settle for No. 5 on the domestic box office chart with $6,650,000.

Fittingly, the top movie wasHalloween,” itself — picking up $32,045,000 in its second weekend, which is several million more than the next two films on the chart combined.

    Blumhouse

“Hunter Killer” was killed by the same devilish trio that dominated last week, and in the same order — “Halloween,” A Star Is Born,” andVenom.” On top of that, Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween also beat “Hunter Killer,” with the “Goosebumps” sequel taking fourth place.

“A Star Is Born” once again topped “Venom,” even though it was the other way around when they debuted together.

But “Venom” is winning the global war — picking up $321M so far at the foreign box office, on top of its $187M domestic tally, for a total of $508,382,314 so far. “A Star Is Born” just cracked $100M at the foreign box office, but its nearly $150M domestic tally now puts it at $253.3M.

    Venom, A Star Is Born
    Sony/Warner Bros.

“Halloween” opened last weekend to No. 1 by a lot, and it kept the position this week — even with a drop of 58 percent. That’s not that bad.

It’s not even really THAT bad for “Hunter Killer” to open in fifth, considering it played in 2,728 theaters, vs. about 1,000 more theaters each for the top four. (“Goosebumps 2” got a bump of 202 extra theaters this week, to pick up more pre-Halloween family visits, and that helped.)

Then again, that $6.65 million domestic opening is lower than the original estimates for “Hunter Killer,” which reportedly cost around $40M to make, with Gerard Butler picking up about $10M on his own.

    RocknRolla Gif
    Warner Bros.

But considering the positive audience reactions, “Hunter Killer” — which also stars Gary OldmanCommonMichael Nyqvist, and Linda Cardellini  — should at least pick up more interest on Digital/DVD/On Demand. And maybe also at the foreign box office.

In other news, Jonah Hill‘s feature directorial debut Mid90s just scraped into the Top 10 despite only opening in 1,206 theaters.

    Mid90s
    A24

Here are the top 10 weekend estimates for October 26-28:

    1. “Halloween” – $32,045,000
    2. “A Star Is Born” – $14,145,000
    3. “Venom” – $10,800,000
    4. “Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween” – $7,500,000
    5. “Hunter Killer” – $6,650,000
    6. “The Hate U Give” – $5,100,000
    7. “First Man” – $4,935,000
    8.”Smallfoot” – $4,750,000
    9. “Night School” – $3,255,000
    10. “Mid90s” -$3,000,000

Johnny English Strikes Again andIndivisible just missed the cut, opening in 12th and 13th places, respectively, as they played in less than 1,000 theaters. But that’s just over here. Rowan Atkinson‘s comedy sequel has already made more than $100 million at the foreign box office.Suspiria only opened in two theaters, but it managed to take No. 21 on the chart with the weekend’s best per-screen average — $89,903.

All told, the October 2018 box office was one for the record books. According to Deadline, total weekend ticket sales for all films this weekend were up 32 percent from last year. And ComScore reported a new October record of $789.9M, topping October 2014’s $757.1M record.

    What’s next?

Bohemian Rhapsody and The Nutcracker and the Four Realms will be ready, Freddie, on November 2.

  • ‘Avengers 4’ Trailer Confirmed for ‘Before the End of the Year’

‘Avengers 4’ Trailer Confirmed for ‘Before the End of the Year’

    Avengers: Infinity War
    Marvel Studios

Your eyeballs will behold the glory of the first “Avengers 4” trailer at some point in the next two months.

So protect yourself. Don’t do anything stupid and ruin your chances of seeing it. Maybe just stay home the whole time. School/work will understand.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige previously said we’d get the title for “Avengers 4” toward the end of the year, after the first promotion for “Captain Marvel.” Now that we’ve seen the early “Captain Marvel” promotion, it’s looking like the title and trailer for “Avengers 4” may drop together.

Critics Choice reporter Erick Weber just updated that Feige confirmed a trailer by the end of 2018. It’s late October, so two months remain:

Brushing past Namor and the ill-fated “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” … when do you think we’ll get that “Avengers 4” trailer?

Marvel fans are speculating that the trailer could be tied to an upcoming Disney/Marvel Comics release — including “Ralph Breaks the Internet” on November 21; “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” on December 14; or “Mary Poppins Returns” on December 19.

However, ComicBook added this intriguing note:

“Of course, there’s also been another possibility: November 29, 2018. That date marks the one-year anniversary of the first Avengers: Infinity War trailer, which was one of the most highly-anticipated events in cinema that year. The trailer’s release was touted as a major event, and it resulted in one of YouTube’s most-viewed movie trailers of all time, wracking up millions of views in record time.”

November 29 is a Thursday this year. What do you think: “Good Morning America” drop that morning, or “Jimmy Kimmel Live” that night — with an appearance from the cast?

The November guess fits with previous speculation on the release of the first “Avengers 4” trailer. That was also mostly based on what Marvel had done before.

So, if that’s the case, your eyeballs will behold the glory of the “Avengers 4” trailer in just one month. Keep a box of tissues on standby for whenever this thing drops, ’cause there’s no way the follow-up to “Avengers: Infinity War” won’t flex your emotions.

“Avengers 4” is currently scheduled for release in U.S. theaters on May 3, 2019.

  • ‘Halloween’ Writers in Talks for Sequels After Killer Opening

‘Halloween’ Writers in Talks for Sequels After Killer Opening

    Halloween
    Universal

Danny McBride — yes, that Danny McBride — was one of the writers and executive producers of the 2018 “Halloween.” That movie just had a very successful opening, taking a lot of Hollywood by surprise.

As usual, that gets people thinking about more — more movies, more money. The end of “Halloween” seemed to leave the door open for a sequel. But we’ll have to wait and see where they go with it.

Deadline talked to McBride about how he got involved with “Halloween,” which was co-written and directed by his old friend and frequent collaborator David Gordon Green (“Eastbound & Down,” “Vice Principals”).

Here’s the sequel section of that talk:

Deadline: You make movies like this to launch or revive franchises. How far along are you on the inevitable sequel?

McBride: We definitely have ideas of what we would do. I think we did not allow ourselves to really indulge those ideas until the movie came out. We just wanted to put all our hopes and dreams in having this film stick the landing. But we do have thoughts and ideas of what we could possibly do. We hadn’t invested a ton of time on them, but now we’re being asked to figure it out. There are definitely talks on whether we will do more of them and we’re just trying to see what best makes sense.

So now that the film has been out for a week — with a current domestic total of $90,892,300 heading into its second weekend — the writers are “being asked to figure it out.” How to keep this gravy train running with “more of them.” Not just one potential sequel. “Them.”

That’s a good sign for McBride, since he recently told Moviefone he was hoping for a chance to return:

Moviefone: Would you be excited to come back and do another one?

McBride: Of course. It doesn’t get much more fun than this. We were making a movie in Charleston with our buddies based on a franchise that we love dearly and being able to take a swing in this universe and this idea that people respond to it … It’s everything you hope for when you get into this business.

    Universal/Blumhouse

McBride added to Deadline that he has a writers’ room working now on the upcoming HBO series “The Righteous Gemstones,” which will start production early next year, starring John Goodman, Adam Devine, Edie Patterson, and himself:

“We’re writing that right now and developing some other things. But the reaction to this has us thinking about more ‘Halloween’ as well.”

The return of Jamie Lee Curtis, and 40-year anniversary of the first film, certainly helped the new “Halloween” at the box office. But you have to worry that the shine might start to wear off for the franchise — again — if they just head back into the cycle of more sequels. We’ll see.

Sofia Vergara Is the Highest-Paid TV Actress for the 7th Year in a Row

MODERN FAMILY - "Good Grief" - It's another epic Halloween full of costumes, tricks and treats for the Dunphy-Pritchett-Tucker clan as they deal with huge, unexpected news, on "Modern Family," WEDNESDAY, OCT. 24 (9:00-9:31 p.m. EDT), on The ABC Television Network. SOFIA VERGARA
    ABC/Tony Rivetti

Sofia Vergara is the highest-paid star on TV — by so much — for the seventh year in a row.

She’s not just the highest-paid actress, she also topped the list of actors’ pay, which was released yesterday.

But Vergara only makes about half of her $42.5 million payday from “Modern Family.” According to Forbes, the rest of her money is from her many endorsements, plus lucrative licensing deals.

Cameron and Gloria Modern Family gif
    ABC

As Forbes noted, Vergara’s 2017-2018 pay was 73 percent more than the $24.5 million Kaley Cuoco picked up to rank No. 2 on the actress list.  But 95 percent of Cuoco’s pay is from “The Big Bang Theory.” (Cuoco’s total is slightly less than the No. 1 on the actor list, her “Big Bang Theory” co-star Jim Parsons.)

And despite all the hullabaloo about Ellen Pompeo’s new contract for “Grey’s Anatomy” making her the highest-paid TV actress, she’s actually No. 3.

“Scandal” is now over, Perrette has left “NCIS,” and both “Homeland” and “The Big Bang Theory” have announced they are ending soon. So this list, like the men’s list, is going to break wide open in the next couple of years.

  • ‘Fantastic Beasts 2’ Box Office Tracking Close to First Film, Lower Than ‘Halloween’ Opening

‘Fantastic Beasts 2’ Box Office Tracking Close to First Film, Lower Than ‘Halloween’ Opening

    Warner Bros.

First off, early box office tracking is about as reliable as a prediction from Professor Trelawney. But she did get one big one right. So…

The early opening estimates for “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” offer a wide range from $65 million to $75 million. For comparison, “Halloween” just opened above $76 million.

The early estimates for “Halloween” were much, much lower. And the “Grindelwald” estimates may be too low as well. (Or not. We’ll see.) Because why not, here’s my random probably-equally-wrong prediction for the “Fantastic Beasts 2” opening: $82 million.

The second “Fantastic Beasts” movie opens in theaters November 16. Since reviews aren’t even out yet, it’s way too soon to really say how it will do. Some people will be swayed by critical and early audience reactions. It’s very easy and terribly tempting to just stay home and wait for the DVD, rather than head out and spend all that money on something that might disappoint. But if it gets raves, more people might be motivated to head out in the weekend before Thanksgiving.

The first film, which came out in 2016, made $74.4 million in its opening weekend at the domestic box office. Ultimately, it picked up $234 million at the domestic box office, and a whopping $580 million at the international box office for a worldwide total of $814,037,575.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
    Warner Bros.

The global numbers are going to lift “Grindelwald,” too. But for now, the opening North American projections show it earning anywhere from low $60Ms to mid $70Ms.

This film has Johnny Depp starring as dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, with Jude Law as (hot) younger Albus Dumbledore. That’s in addition to the returning “Fantastic Beasts” cast, like Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander. Plus, we get to meet Nagini before she was a snake!  Some people have threatened to boycott the film because of Depp’s casting, but it remains to be seen if that will really happen and affect the box office take.

“Crimes of Grindelwald” is the second of five planned films in this series, and it’s hard to imagine people who watched the first one wouldn’t be curious to continue with the series. But that doesn’t mean they’ll rush out to watch it opening weekend, or in a movie theater at all.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, via EW
    Warner Bros.

“Fantastic Beasts 2” was picked as the most anticipated fall movie in at least one survey. Plus, “Halloween” just opened waaaaay past its own early estimates — which were much lower than the eventual $76+ million.  If an R-rated “Halloween” sequel can do that well, shouldn’t a PG-13 “Harry Potter” prequel sequel top it? Apples to oranges?

“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” opens Friday, Nov. 16, in the weekend before Thanksgiving. Will you head out that opening weekend, or wait till the next week, or later in the year, or till when it comes out on Digital/DVD/Blu-ray? Or will you skip it entirely?

  • ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ Stars Want to Do a Sequel

‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ Stars Want to Do a Sequel

Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz in My Best Friend's Wedding
    TriStar Pictures

Say a little prayer for this to happen!

Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney are both down for a sequel to “My Best Friend’s Wedding.” Now we just need Cameron Diaz and Rupert Everett to jump on board. Oh, and it would be nice to have a script — so maybe Ronald Bass can whip another something up, with P.J. Hogan returning to direct?

“My Best Friend’s Wedding” came out in 1997, with Roberts as anti-heroine Julianne Potter — who tried her best/worst to sabotage the wedding of her best friend Michael (Dermot Mulroney) to sweet Kimmy (Cameron Diaz). She failed.

But through it all was her real BFF George (Rupert Everett), and maybe that’s the pair we could focus on in the sequel? Maybe George gets married and Julianne gets jealous again? Or maybe George gets jealous if Julianne plans a wedding? Or follow a wedding for one of Kimmy’s fun twin bridesmaids (played by Rachel Griffiths and Carrie Preston)?

    My Best Friend's Wedding gif
    TriStar Pictures

Anyway, someone should come up with something good now that Roberts has the door open.

Julia Roberts is on this week’s cover of Entertainment Weekly to promote her new Amazon show “Homecoming,” which also features Dermot Mulroney. EW asked which of her films she’d like to revisit for a sequel, if she could. Here’s her response:

“A lot of people want to follow up with Vivian [of ‘Pretty Woman’].”

But she said she’s like to see where the “Wedding” characters are today.

“I guess I think maybe it’s just because we’re talking about Dermot. But Rupert was so funny in ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding.’ I guess Kimmy and Michael are married and they probably have kids. And then there’s me and Rupert.”

Mulroney told EW he’d like to revisit the team too:

“I’ll tell you that movie has wormed its way further and further under my skin, and I see more and more layers of how it holds meaning and sustains as a piece, and obviously it’s always been irresistible. I think there’s only about four people on Earth that could make a movie like that, and they include Rupert, Cameron, Julia, and me. So, let’s have at it.”

Maybe a bit more than four since you’ll need a script and director, never mind the rest of the production crew.

Speaking of the script, did you know the movie had a different original ending? Apparently test audiences didn’t like it, so they went back months later to shoot the current ending.

What do you think of checking in on these characters more than 20 years later? Obviously we’ll need more songs, dances, and Kimmy’s adorably bad karaoke:

New ‘How to Train Your Dragon 3’ Trailer Will Give You Chills

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World
    DreamWorks Animation/Universal Pictures

The “How to Train Your Dragon” trilogy is ending with “The Hidden World.”

We’ve already been warned this conclusion will be “bittersweet.” We’re (almost) prepared to feel every feel in the feeldom.

The second trailer was just released, preparing us for the major adventure ahead:

The first trailer came out in June. Director Dean DeBlois told Entertainment Weekly this film will wrap up both the trilogy and the TV spinoffs:

“You will understand why Hiccup says, as you heard in the trailer, ‘There were dragons when I was a boy.’ And by the end of this film, you’ll have answered the question of what could have happened to them.”

    We’re not ready!

    Here’s the full synopsis:

“From DreamWorks Animation comes a surprising tale about growing up, finding the courage to face the unknown…and how nothing can ever train you to let go. What began as an unlikely friendship between an adolescent Viking and a fearsome Night Fury dragon has become an epic adventure spanning their lives.

Welcome to the most astonishing chapter of one of the most beloved animated franchises in film history: How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.

Now chief and ruler of Berk alongside Astrid, Hiccup has created a gloriously chaotic dragon utopia. When the sudden appearance of female Light Fury coincides with the darkest threat their village has ever faced, Hiccup and Toothless must leave the only home they’ve known and journey to a hidden world thought only to exist in myth. As their true destines are revealed, dragon and rider will fight together—to the very ends of the Earth—to protect everything they’ve grown to treasure.

For ‘How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World,’ series director Dean DeBlois returns alongside the all-star cast. The film is produced by Brad Lewis (Ratatouille, ANTZ) and Bonnie Arnold (Toy Story, How to Train Your Dragon,How to Train Your Dragon 2).”

The first “How to Train Your Dragon” film, loosely based on the Cressida Cowell book, came out in 2010. The second film was released in 2014.

    20th Century Fox

    Yippee-ki-yay, motherbleepers.

For two days and nights only, “Die Hard” will return — without a vengeance. Because it’s not “Die Hard with a Vengeance,” it’s just the original “Die Hard.”

Bruce Willis and the late great Alan Rickman starred in “Die Hard,” which came out in 1988 and launched a franchise that has yet to die. (Willis is returning for a sixth film, called “McClane.”)

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the seminal action film, “Die Hard” will plays for two days only, November 11 and 14, across 700 movie theaters.

This is all coming from Fathom Events, Turner Classic Movies, and Twentieth Century Fox. There will be new pre- and post-film commentary by TCM Primetime Host Ben Mankiewicz.

Here’s when “Die Hard” will play:

    Sunday, November 11 – 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. (local time)

    Wednesday, November 14 – 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. (local time)

Head to www.FathomEvents.com to see if there are any participating theaters near you.

Might be fun to head out with family before Thanksgiving, even though “Die Hard” is a Christmas movie. Or is it?

  • Chris Pratt in Talks for Taylor Sheridan Film, After Two Major Movie Delays

Chris Pratt in Talks for Taylor Sheridan Film, After Two Major Movie Delays

    Guardians of the Galaxy
    Marvel Studios

Chris Pratt is the guy you want in your movie. (Just ask The Rock.)

Fans may have blamed his Star-Lord for what happened in “Avengers: Infinity War,” but between “Infinity War” and “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” Pratt pretty much owned the 2018 box office.

And yet, he doesn’t have much coming up. He’ll return in “Avengers 4” in May, and his indie Western “The Kid” is in post-production.

But he was supposed to be filming “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” starting in early 2019. Now … Disney/Marvel has to find a new director willing to drink from that poisoned chalice.

Pratt was also supposed to be making the potential tentpole “Cowboy Ninja Viking,” but Universal pulled that from its June 28, 2019 release date.

So that’s two major films down. But he may have found a replacement — and it sounds right up his rugged Manly Man alley.

Variety reports that Pratt is in talks to star in Taylor Sheridan‘s new film, with the working title “Fast.”

Sheridan would be writing and directing the film, which “follows a former special forces commando (Pratt), who’s recruited by the DEA to lead a black ops strike team targeting drug dealers who are protected by the CIA.”

It’s not the most exciting or original premise, but the people involved give us some hope.

Sheridan made a name for himself writing “Sicario,” and then “Hell or High Water,” which was nominated for the Best Original Screenplay Oscar. He made his directorial debut with “Wind River” (starring two other Avengers), which he also wrote. And he’s the writer/director/producer behind “Yellowstone,” starring Kevin Costner, which turned out to be cable’s biggest hit since “The Walking Dead.”

According to Variety, “Fast” — or whatever it is ultimately called — has a budget in the $70 million to $80 million range, so studio Warner Bros. needed a star in order to give it the green light. Now it looks like they have Chris Pratt.

Pratt also has a voice role in “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.” And he’s going to be filming his third “Jurassic World” movie in the next year or so for its planned 2021 release.
