    • Cameron Diaz is starring in a sequel to 1989’s ‘Troop Beverly Hills’.
    • Clea DuVall is directing from her own script.
    • Sony’s TriStar Pictures is backing the new movie.

Keeping her return to movies rolling, Cameron Diaz has been lining up a variety of projects. And she’s adding another to the list, as Deadline reports that she’s teaming up with actor/writer/director Clea DuVall for a sequel to 1989 comedy ‘Troop Beverly Hills’.

DuVall has written a script for the new movie, and will call the shots for Sony’s TriStar arm.

We’re not sure we had either a sequel to the movie –– which celebrated its 30th anniversary back in 2019 –– or Diaz’ involvement on our bingo card, but it could certainly be fun.

The movie follows Beverly Hills socialite Phyllis Nefler (Shelley Long) who is undergoing a contentious divorce and seeks to prove her worth to her estranged husband. She becomes a den mother to a troop of Beverly Hills Girl Scouts that her young daughter belongs to. Her unorthodox ways run her afoul of a rival troop leader (Betty Thomas), but Phyllis and the girls persevere at the regional Jamboree.

We don’t yet know how the new movie will continue the story –– perhaps one of the kids is now grown up and has her own adventure?

Where else can we see Cameron Diaz?

The movie franchise kicked off in 1987 with the first ‘Robocop’ film starring Peter Weller as the titular half man, half machine officer. Weller returned for the sequel in 1990, with Robert Burke taking over the role for ‘Robocop 3’ in 1993.

A reboot starring Joel Kinnaman was released in 2014. There have also been multiple ‘Robocop’ TV shows since then, including two animated and two live-action shows, as well as video games and comic books.

What will the new ‘RoboCop’ series be about?

From the sounds of its official logline, the series will be following a familiar path: “A giant tech conglomerate collaborates with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime — a police officer who’s part man, part machine.”

Will we buy that for a dollar? It remains to be seen…

And now, via Netflix, we have the first look at one of the main cast members, Jamie Bell, who takes over the role of Duke Shelby (as played by Barry Keoghan in the last couple of seasons and the movie).

In this new era of the Peaky Blinders, a decade after World War Two, the race to rebuild Birmingham becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and jeopardy.

At its blood-soaked heart is Duke Shelby (Bell): older, wiser, more ambitious, and most certainly more dangerous.

Here’s Knight talking about the new iteration of his creation:

“I am thrilled that we are announcing a new era of Peaky Blinders, moving the story to post-war Birmingham in the early 50s. We are incredibly fortunate to have Jamie Bell taking the role of Tommy Shelby’s oldest son, Duke, and to have Charlie Heaton also leading the cast. There are more exciting cast announcements to come, and ‘Peaky’ is on the road again.”

    • Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani are also set to return.

Even though Chris Hemsworth‘s Tyler Rake seemed to die at the end of the first ‘Extraction’ movie back in 2020, audiences responded so well to the action thriller that director Sam Hargrave and the team found a way to bring him back for the second in 2023.

And now it appears Hemsworth will return for more, with Deadline reporting that he’s signed a deal to play Rake a third time.

While we know that David Weil (‘Hunters’) is writing the script, the exact plot details are a mystery for now. But we can expect more crazed action from Tyler and the gang as they’re dispatched on another mission.

When will ‘Extraction 3’ hit screens?

Netflix has yet to confirm a debut date for the new movie, but it has scheduled a summer shoot to accommodate the star’s busy schedule (he also has to film ‘Kockroach’ starting this month), so we could predict a spring/summer 2027 release.

  • ‘Thrash’ Interview: Phoebe Dynevor, Djimon Hounsou and More

Moviefone recently had the pleasure of speaking with Phoebe Dynevor, Djimon Hounsou and Whitney Peak about their work on ‘Thrash’, Hounsou’s first reaction to the screenplay, the relationship between Dynevor and Peak’s characters, and the challenges of filming in water.

Moviefone: To begin with, Djimon, what was your first reaction to the screenplay and your character, and did you understand his motivations and how you wanted to play him immediately?

Djimon Hounsou: Yes. My first reaction was a yes. My first reaction was, hopefully, we can bring some awareness about how we’re affecting climate change. That mixed with a bit of a fictional story and a dynamic that plays with these two young ladies. It made it a potentially fun movie and realistic in so many ways as well.

MF: Phoebe, can you talk about the urgency of the situation your character finds herself in at the beginning of the movie, and what she’s willing to do to protect herself and her unborn baby?

Phoebe Dynevor: I think that was the magic of the character and the script for me was this idea of a mother’s instinct and doing whatever they can to save their child. We pictured that (famous) image of the woman holding up the car to save her child. Lisa has no choice but to go. But you can’t control labor, you can’t control when your child is going to be born. It happens and she must face it. So, it’s really about survival and her baby, their survival together. There’s a lot of challenges she must face. It’s like one thing after the next and then balancing the levels of childbirth and how the contractions get more intense, and her surroundings get more intense too. So that was fun to play.

MF: Whitney, can you talk about the friendship that forms between Lisa and Dakota, and what it was like creating that on screen with Phoebe?

Whitney Peak: I think, in a weird way, yes, Dakota does bond with Lisa, but I think a big part of it is how much she relates to Lisa’s baby, in a weird way. Because there’s that scene where Lisa’s talking to her baby, and she’s saying, “It’s not safe yet. It’s not time to come out yet so stay inside.” I think that’s been Dakota’s internal monologue the entire time. I think that relationship really does help her heal herself in a lot of ways.

MF: Finally, Phoebe, what was it like for you to constantly film in water and how challenging was the production?

PD: I was once told by an actor to never shoot in water and now I know why. It was a challenging experience, but it was in a great way. We shot in Melbourne in the middle of winter, so it was cold, but it was fun. The rain and the wind, that was all real, that was all happening. Those were machines that would pump that into our face, so we were acting against those challenges too. But for most of the shoot, we were in a tank with the whole crew. So, everyone was in their wetsuits. We were all in it together. It wasn’t like the actors were going through it and everyone else was just watching. It was very much a team effort.
