  • Michelle Rodriguez Suspects Vin Diesel Will Convince Her to Do More Fast and Furious Films

'The Fate Of The Furious' New York PremiereDon’t count Michelle Rodriguez out for future Fast and Furious flicks yet.

Although the actress has expressed concerns in the past regarding the role of women in the action franchise, she isn’t ruling out a return. In fact, she sounds pretty convinced that she’ll reprise her role as Letty Ortiz in “Fast 9.” During a recent THR interview, she said that producer and co-star Vin Diesel will likely get her to appear in the upcoming film.

“I’m sure he’ll convince me,” she said.

Rodriguez does want to see her concerns addressed, though. Specifically, she wants the franchise’s female characters to be better fleshed out.

“We always see the guys talking, we know what they’re thinking and we know their relationships, but I can count with one hand in eight movies how many times the women talk to each other,” she told THR. “So it’s, ‘Who are they, what are they about, and do you care?’”

Those comments build on what she said in a June Instagram post calling for more “love to the women of the franchise.” Diesel seemed to hear her message, writing in a post shortly thereafter, “We must try to reach higher each time.” He also shared a video in which Rodriguez called him “the biggest supporter of strong women.”

Rodriguez seems confident that Diesel understands where she is coming from and, like her, feels a responsibility to use the franchise’s power for good. We look forward to seeing how they make the most of it when “Fast 9” opens on April 19, 2019.

  • Vin Diesel Gets Emotional Talking Paul Walker’s Impact on ‘The Fate of the Furious’

Fast & Furious 6 - World Premiere - Inside ArrivalsVin Diesel opened up about the impact of Paul Walker‘s death again, so you might want to have some tissues handy.

The “Fate of the Furious” star was at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Wednesday when the topic of his late friend and former co-star came up. Diesel had touching insight to share of the emotional subject, and he was visibly moved while discussing it, according to Variety.

Diesel, who has been forthcoming about how Walker inspires him in the past, highlighted how much continuing the franchise meant to them all, especially in light of a promise Walker had made.

“It was Paul Walker who promised eight,” Diesel said Wednesday. “It played over and over again in my brain.”

The cast and the rest of the Fast and the Furious team haven’t disappointed. In fact, they’re not stopping at eight. “The Fate of the Furious” is just the first in a new trilogy, so we’re looking at a minimum of 10 of the car-centric action flicks.

“I always feel like he’s looking down on us so we didn’t want to let him down,” Diesel said.

Fellow franchise star Tyrese Gibson echoed Diesel’s sentiments, saying that they “move and operate in the memory of Paul Walker.”

Walker, who died in a car accident on Nov. 30, 2013, was a staple in the series. Although he skipped the third movie, 2006’s “Tokyo Drift,” he appeared in each of the other installments through 2015’s “Furious 7,” which was in production when he died. “The Fate of the Furious” is the first in the franchise without Walker since his death, but Diesel made it clear that his friend isn’t truly absent.

“Part of Paul’s legacy lives through every frame that we shoot,” he said.

You probably need those tissues right about now, right?

  • ‘The Fate of the Furious’ Had to Take New Direction to Continue, Says Vin Diesel

With seven movies to its name already, the Fast & Furious franchise had to find a way to stay fresh with “The Fate of the Furious.”

If you’ve seen any of the trailers so far, you already know the big, not-so-secret bombshell: Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) goes rogue. It’s a development fans couldn’t have expected, but one the team felt was necessary. In fact, in a new featurette on the film, star and producer Diesel calls it “the only way we were really going to be able to continue this story.”

The idea was to take what fans had seen before and do something completely different. As such, Dom goes from loyal family man to betrayer, with the help of the “fiercest villain” yet, Cipher (Charlize Theron). It’s an concept we’re still trying to wrap our mind’s around, comforted only by reassurances from Diesel that the film will “blow people’s minds.”

Watch the featurette below for more insight.

“The Fate of the Furious” opens on April 14.

  • International ‘Fate of the Furious’ Trailer Gets Steamy in Cuba

Fate of the FuriousWhat happened to the “Fast and Furious” family?

The first trailer for “The Fate of the Furious,” the eighth installment in the franchise, teased that Dom (Vin Diesel) turns his back on his crew, his family, to team up with the mysterious Cipher (Charlize Theron). Now, a new international trailer provides a little more insight into their relationship.

The trailer focuses heavily on action in Cuba, where Dom and Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) go for their honeymoon. And then Cipher shows up, and works her wiles on Dom to form an alliance with her.

The trailer features a new Pitbull song, “Hey Ma,” as well as some action-packed footage of a race with classic cars in Cuba. But mostly, this teaser focuses on the relationships between Dom and Letty and Dom and Cipher.

“The Fate of the Furious” opens in theaters April 14.

  • Vin Diesel Wants to Make a ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Spinoff Starring Groot

groot, spinoff, guardians of the galaxy, vin dieselWe’re still several months away from the release of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” but that hasn’t stopped star Vin Diesel from looking even further into the franchise’s future, proposing a possible spinoff starring his character, Groot.

The actor teased the potential project during a recent interview with MTV International, in which he spoke about what makes the character so special, and the appeal of a standalone feature, which Diesel seems to think is an “inevitable” development. And he has good reason for being so optimistic: It turns out that the idea of a Groot spinoff is something that “Guardians of the Galaxy” writer-director James Gunn has mentioned before.

Here’s what Diesel had to say about his onscreen alter ego, and his vision for the hypothetical project:

“… It’s something that I know that [Gunn] would love to do. Sure, I think it could be very interesting. I think it’s inevitable, I think that character is so enigmatic. He was already one of the most unique characters in the Marvel universe, and I think what Marvel has done — primarily what James Gunn has done — to realize that character has exceeded beyond any of its expectations. I think he’s just such an interesting character, and there’s so much to learn about him. I would love to go back to his planet and learn more about him, and I think the world would, [too].”

While it’s far from a sure thing (remember, Diesel is the one who famously said “Furious 7” would win the Best Picture Oscar, so he’s a bit prone to hyperbole), the fact that Gunn is on board for the flick certainly makes us hopeful that it could eventually come to fruition. We’ll keep our tree limbs fingers crossed.

  • Vin Diesel Addresses Paul Walker, ‘Fast 8’ Hopes in Bittersweet Post

'Fast & Furious 5' Germany PremierePaul Walker has been gone for over three years now, but his Fast and the Furious family certainly hasn’t forgotten him.

With the franchise’s eighth film, “The Fate of the Furious” (also known as “Fast 8”), in post-production, Walker’s absence has understandably been very much on the mind of his long-time co-stars. Vin Diesel made no secret of the fact when he posted a touching message to his late friend on Instagram Wednesday. The action star reflected on the latest installment’s “arduous road to production” and “the challenging task of filming” it.

Difficult as it has been, Walker has evidently been a motivating force. “You Pablo have given me strength… purpose and resolve,” Diesel wrote to Walker.

Diesel also shared his hope that the film will be one Walker would be proud of and reminded fans, “Family above everything.”

Diesel and Walker starred together in four Fast and the Furious movies over the span of a decade, and were in the process of filming a fifth (the franchise’s seventh) when Walker died in a car accident on Nov. 30, 2013. “The Fate of the Furious” is the first in the series that Diesel has filmed entirely without Walker, so it’s no wonder he still misses him.

“The Fate of the Furious” hits theaters on April 14.

  • Vin Diesel Believes ‘Fast 8’ Could Win Oscars

People's Choice Awards 2016 - Backstage And AudienceVin Diesel isn’t content with the “Fast and Furious” franchise making a gazillion dollars. He wants gold, too — Oscars gold.

The star has always been outspoken about the movies deserving more awards attention, but he’s really playing up “Fast 8” as an Academy Award contender. While promoting his recent movie “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk,” Diesel told Entertainment Tonight that director F. Gary Gray is taking the franchise to a new place — a place with Oscars.

“He is definitely going to get his comeuppance … He should’ve really been acknowledged for ‘Straight Outta Compton,’” Diesel said, referring to Gray’s last film, which was critically acclaimed but only received one Oscar nomination for its screenplay.

“I think he went into making this movie with a little bit of a chip on his shoulder, going ‘Oh, really? OK. Now I’m going to take the biggest saga in the world, and I’m about to throw Oscars at you.’ Wait until you see what he does!”

Big action movies rarely make a splash at the Oscars (“Mad Max: Fury Road” being a notable exception), but maybe “Fast 8” will break that trend. Diesel believes it could, since the movie is “different” from its predecessors.

“It’s very dark,” he explained. “My character is conflicted in a way that is really going to shock you.”

  • Vin Diesel Confirms ‘Fast 8’ Trailer Debut Date

"The Last Witch Hunter" - UK Premiere - Red Carpet ArrivalsMark your calendars for December 11, “Fast and Furious” fans!

That’s when the first trailer for “Fast 8” will debut, a bit of news Vin Diesel first teased earlier this week and then confirmed again with a photo posted to his Facebook.
In his first post on Tuesday, Diesel wrote, “The trailer for F8 is going to blow your mind… New York City December 11th. You will see why there was tension, you will understand the intensity.”

Diesel seems to be referring to the alleged feud between himself and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, which began when the latter called some of his male co-stars “candy asses.” Then again, the purported “feud” could just be a publicity stunt tied to the WWE, so who knows.

The “Fast 8” trailer will debut on a Sunday, and likely be attached to a movie later that week or month. Likely candidates are “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” (Dec. 16) or “Assassin’s Creed” (Dec. 21).

“Fast 8” opens in theaters April 14, 2017.

  • Vin Diesel to Begin Filming ‘xXx’ Sequel

With “Fast & Furious” in his rear view mirror, Vin Diesel will revive his “xXx” character for more action.

The 48-year-old shared on Instagram Sunday that the “time to return has come” and that he will begin filming the “xXx” sequel in December in the Philippines.

Diesel starred as extreme sports athlete Xander Cage in the 2002 thriller opposite Samuel L. Jackson as an undercover agent for the NSA, utilizing his adrenaline-fueled skills like snowboarding, motoring and more.

The announcement comes after “Furious 7” proved to be a hit yet again for the action star, who began the franchise film in 2001, a year ahead of “xXx.” In 2005, Ice Cube filled Diesel’s shoes as the lead in the sequel.

According to Diesel’s IMDB page, the working title for the forthcoming picture is “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage.”
