  • ‘Fuller House’ Is Bringing Back Another D.J. ‘Full House’ Ex

full house, fuller house, nelson, D.J., D.J. tanner, nelson burkhardYet another familiar character from “Full House” will resurface on “Fuller House” for its sophomore season, but he won’t have a familiar face: The series is recasting the role of Nelson, one of D.J.’s (Candace Cameron Bure) high school boyfriends.

TVLine reports that actor and comedian Hal Sparks (best known for a starring role on Showtime’s “Queer as Folk,” and as one of the talking heads of VH1’s “I Love the…” series) will take over the part, replacing actor Jason Marsden. But there’s no bad blood between Marsden and the “Fuller House” crew, and the show did in fact reach out to the original actor asking if he’d like to reprise his role.

In a series of Twitter videos, Marsden said Netflix and the “Fuller House” creative team contacted him several times trying to figure out a way for the actor to return. Unfortunately, Marsden said, things just didn’t work out, but he added that he holds no ill will toward the show, and encouraged his followers to adopt a similar attitude and continue watching the series.

As for how Nelson will fit into “Fuller House,” TVLine writes, “He’ll bump into D.J. at their high school reunion, where she’ll discover that he hasn’t changed one bit — well, except for his face.”

“Full House” fans will remember that Nelson is pretty nerdy but also pretty rich — and has a limo on retainer should anyone need to search for their missing dog. And he absolutely adored D.J., though she ultimately didn’t feel the same.

Season two of “Fuller House” is filming now. No word yet on when the new episodes will hit Netflix.

  • ‘Fuller House’ Season 2 Is Recasting Two Original Series Roles

How rude? According to “Fuller House” Season 2 is bringing back two OG “Full House” characters — both connected to D.J.’s (Candace Cameron Bure) past — but in recasted roles.

Do you happen to remember Nelson Burkhard, the rich guy’s son who dated D.J. back in the day, and even had a date with Kimmy Gibbler when he and D.J. had broken up? Well, he was played by Jason Marsden in the original “Full House” series in the mid-1990s, but TVLine said they are now re-casting for the role in “Fuller House” Season 2.
Netflix is also casting for Kathy Santoni, originally played by Anne Marie McEvoy. Back when D.J. was 12, Kathy was something of a frenemy — a friend but one who occasionally inspired jealousy, competition, and irritation. So not the best of friends.

TVLine said both Kathy and Nelson will be at D.J.’s high school reunion in the new season and, the site added, “you’ll be happy to learn that very little has changed for either of them; Nelson is still obnoxiously wealthy, constantly boasting about his yacht and three houses, while Kathy is every bit as b*tchy and pregnant as we remember her. (That’s right. Go back and watch Season 8.).”

In other D.J. news, you may recall hearing that Season 2 would also include a D.J. “clone” as Steve’s new girlfriend. But don’t worry, Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) won’t be left out — she gets her own weird new boyfriend.

Are you happy to hear that fans will see Nelson and Kathy again, or frustrated that the original actors won’t be returning in the roles? It’s possible the actors just didn’t want to return. But what’s a high school reunion if it doesn’t reveal how our old friends really turned out?

Season 2 doesn’t have an official release date yet, but it should be coming soon.

  • ‘Fuller House’ Has Given Up on an Olsen Twins Cameo

"Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology" Costume Institute Gala - ArrivalsNetflix series “Fuller House,” the sequel show to classic sitcom “Full House,” pulled out all the stops in its first season, featuring the return of just about every major character, with two glaring exceptions: The Olsen twins. While the actresses-turned-fashion moguls declined to appear on the program, the show still left the door open for a potential cameo somewhere down the road. But according to one of the revival’s stars, it looks like that may never actually happen.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jodie Sweetin, who plays middle sister Stephanie Tanner, said that the show has made several ovations to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen in an effort to get them to appear. But Sweetin admitted that it doesn’t look like those pleas will ever work.

“We’ve tried everything,” the actress told ET. “I think we’ve kinda given up.”

That’s not entirely surprising, especially considering that the twins (who famously declared they were done with acting back in 2013) claimed they didn’t even know the revival was happening when it was first announced — an assertion that fellow costar John Stamos called B.S. The show did some creative maneuvering to explain why little sister Michelle was missing, taking inspiration from the Olsens’ real-life fashion careers (and throwing in a pointed silence to really drive home their awkward absence). Maybe the sisters just didn’t think that over-the-top reaction could be topped?

But don’t fret, “Fuller House” fans: According to Sweetin, there will be plenty of other fun cameos waiting for fans during the show’s sophomore season.

“A lot of people that have been talked about for like 30 years are going to be on the show,” Sweetin told ET of season two. “It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

  • John Stamos Reads Mean ‘Fuller House’ Reviews: ‘How F—ing Rude!’

Seth Meyers“Fuller House” may be a viewers’ darling (Netflix has already renewed it for a second season), but it’s definitely not a critical darling, as “Late Night” host Seth Meyers pointed out to star John Stamos last night. The reviews were, shall we say, not glowing.

“I thought it turned out well and people seemed to like it,” Stamos said. “I read a couple nice reviews, but then there were these crazy [ones] and I have nothing against these reviewers. They’ve given me great reviews. ‘Grandfathered’ got love letters — but these were so sort of wacky, and they’re real.”

Meyers read some excepts like one from The Hollywood Reporter’s Daniel Feinberg, who wrote, “It’s doubtful that there will be a more painful 2016 TV episode than the ‘Fuller House’ pilot.”

“How f—ing rude!” Stamos laughed in response.

    Have mercy, critics, have mercy.

  • Netflix Renews ‘Fuller House’ for Season 2, ‘Coming Soon’

Fuller HouseWant more ’90s nostalgia, “Fuller House” Season 1, Netflix has announced a follow-up is go for launch:

No chill for the Tanners! Critics did not take kindly to the “Full House” continuation, but who cares. Fans downed it whole over the weekend, and even though Netflix says Season 2 is “coming soon,” it will probably take them a year, or close to it, to give us another batch of 13 episodes to watch within the space of 24 hours. That’s Netflix for ya! And we love it.

It may seem like tempting fate to give fans a second helping of super-sweet nostalgia — what if they get sick from overload and it taints the whole series? — but the early response to this news has been very positive. This is basically the reaction:

Question: Do you think one or both of the Olsen twins would be willing to make at least a cameo in Season 2, now that they’ve seen the fan response to Season 1?

  • Fans Love the Shade ‘Fuller House’ Just Threw at the Olsen Twins

Ashley (L) and Mary-Kate Olsen arrive aCritics may be mixed (OK, not mixed, they hated it) on “Fuller House,” but #FullerHouse has been trending all day on its February 26 debut, and fans seem charmed by Netflix’s ’90s nostalgia trip.

We were already told that the Olsen twins’s decision to skip the “Full House” sequel would be addressed by noting that their character, Michelle Tanner, was in New York running her fashion empire. But we didn’t quite know that the actors would use that line to break the fourth wall, giving very pointed looks to the camera, and giving the studio audience an early laugh.

Well, the Internet got it, dude, and ate it up like candy:

Candace Cameron Bure told Us Weekly that look into the camera wasn’t written in the script. “We just sort of decided to do it for the writers and producers as we did our run-through. But it was so funny and so poignant that they kept it in! I mean, it’s a fun poke!”

A fun poke, eh? Do you think the Olsens are out there somewhere, watching “Fuller House” or at least being told that the cast just threw some shade their way? Do they care? And what did we as a society do before the word “shade” was used for everything? These are the questions that keep us up at night.

If you happen to watch “Fuller House” and think “I hope there’s more,” well, there’s no official word yet on Season 2, but Bob Saget pitched “Fullest House” to Entertainment Weekly:

“What we’re expecting it to do is be so beloved by the fans that later there will be a ‘Fullest House,’ which will be the children of the new kids on the show. And I will come out of Cryovac cave. [You know] how aliens sleep for a thousand years? They’ll just open some thing, and I’ll still be there. I’ll be able to do it. I can do it from a nursing home. I don’t care. I will never let the legacy be tarnished.”

Yeah, he’s joking, but Bob Saget playing Danny Tanner from a nursing home sounds about right from here.

  • Here Are the Fun Careers Kimmy Gibbler Almost Had on ‘Fuller House’

The Tanners aren’t the only ones returning when “Fuller House” finally arrives this Friday, February 26 on Netflix. DJ’s best friend, Kimmy Gibbler, is stepping into a major role as one of the series’s three leads. Andrea Barber talked to The Hollywood Reporter about Kimmy’s return and how they decided what she’d be doing at this point in time, when the character and the actress are both 39.

The photo above is Kimmy with Fernando, her “estranged” husband, with whom she has a daughter, Ramona. Modern Kimmy is also an entrepreneur with her own party planning business, but that wasn’t always going to be her profession.

    Here’s what Barber told THR:

“We thought at first maybe she should have a very eclectic background that nobody would expect, like maybe she is a translator for the United Nations and she speaks like four different languages. So she comes in speaking Russian and French and she’s a translator for all of these international ambassadors. We thought nobody would see that coming.

Another idea we threw around was Kimmy having a snack-making business at home, like Gibbler’s Nibblers. She ran her own cookie business out of the basement of the home. And eventually we settled on party planning just because it fits so well with the character — there’s so much potential there for elaborate parties and parties gone wrong and parties gone right and theme parties. I’m glad we settled on party planner.”

Gibbler’s Nibblers! Kimmy as a UN translator would’ve been hilarious, but party planner does make sense. Barber also weighed in on the idea of her character being in a complicated relationship with her (hot) husband:

“When they announced the casting of Juan Pablo Di Pace as Fernando, I could practically hear the collective jaw-dropping of Internet about how did Kimmy land such a hot guy as her husband?! (Laughs) So there is some interesting backstory there that the viewers will see on Fuller House.

He’s an estranged husband. He’s not quite an ex-husband yet, but they’re headed that way, but are they headed that way? There’s a lot of great storylines coming up for Kimmy and Fernando, and I can’t wait for everybody to see it because those are my favorite scenes.”

It already sounds like Kimmy and Fernando will probably get back together, but the journey is all, and fans get to see it play out this week. Do you think they should’ve made Kimmy a UN translator, or the owner of Gibbler’s Nibblers which should seriously be a bakery we can visit?

  • You Got It, Dude: Here’s the First ‘Fuller House’ Trailer

Fuller HouseHave mercy! The first full-length trailer for “Fuller House” debuted exclusively on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and it’s the nostalgia-filled trip down ’90s memory lane that we all wanted it to be.

The three main stars of the Netflix revival — Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, and Andrea Barber — stopped by the talk show to unveil the trailer, which hits all the “Full House” moments, from the many, many catchphrases to cheesy jokes to heartwarming hugs.

Bure’s D.J. Tanner is now a single mom of three boys, who’s feeling overwhelmed, so sister Stephanie (Sweetin) and best friend Kimmy Gibbler (Barber) offer to move in to help out — a mirror image of the original series. And beloved cast members Bob Saget, John Stamos, Dave Coulier, and Lori Loughlin all reprise their roles.

“Fuller House” will be available to stream Feb. 26 on Netflix.
