  • ‘This Is Us’ Season 2 Premiere Is ‘Very Heavy,’ Says Creator

    This Is Us - Season 1The “This Is Us” Season 2 premiere is going to cause emotional upheaval, which, frankly, we should expect by now.

    When the NBC drama kicks off its second season, things will get “very heavy,” according to creator Dan Fogelman. He opened up about it to EW, and indicated that Rebecca (Mandy Moore), Jack (Milo Ventimiglia), and family will be dealing with the aftermath of the couple’s blow-out fight and decision to separate.

    “They’ve said stuff they’ve never said,” he told the publication. “They’ve said stuff in the heat of the moment that clearly, they felt for a while. I think it takes a while to buy it back. The first episode is all about the ramifications of those things that have been said, and the regret.”

    The possible silver lining here is that Fogelman’s comment on “buy[ing] it back” may hint that they’ll recover from their big fight. Yet, even if that’s the case, don’t know when we’ll get happier times, because he describes Rebecca and Jack’s storyline at the end of the episode as “very intense.”

    “The end packs just a huge, romantic, sad, beautiful, melancholy wallop,” he said.

    We’re honestly not sure if that is a good or a bad thing. Whatever the case, the show has a lot more to cover, as well, what with their children living adult lives in the show’s other timeline. The pace will move rapidly, and we’ll apparently see a lot happen.

    “We’ve only got 40 minutes and we’ve got eight characters you want to catch up to, so it flies — in a good way,” Fogelman said.

    We’re ready for it — well, as ready as we can be.

    “This Is Us” Season 2 premieres Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.

  • ‘This Is Us’ Promotes Two Cast Members to Series Regulars

    “This Is Us” is expanding its family! The hit NBC drama is promoting Jon Huertas and Alexandra Breckenridge to full-time series regular status for Season 2.

    Huertas appeared in 11 episodes of the first season as Miguel, the best friend and colleague of Jack Pearson (Milo Ventimiglia). A twist at the end of the second episode revealed that he is the present-day husband of Rebecca (Mandy Moore), leaving fans to wonder how Jack’s best friend wound up married to his wife.

    Jack, of course, dies at some point before the present-day storyline, but how and when MIguel and Rebecca get together is a mystery.

    Breckenridge appeared in five episodes later in the season as Kevin’s (Justin Hartley) ex-wife, Sophie — who was Kate’s (Chrissy Metz) childhood best friend. Kevin and Sophie reconnected when he moved to New York to star in a play, but their relationship was left hanging when he took a job in Los Angeles.

    NBCUniversal Press Tour - 2017The stars of “This Is Us” took a family stroll on the streets of New York City with Billy Eichner for the latest installment of his “Billy on the Streets.” And of course, everybody gushed over them.

    The freshman NBC drama was the season’s biggest new hit and a pop culture sensation. “I love it!” one fan exclaimed of the show to Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, Chrissy Metz, and Justin Hartley.

    “Can’t wait!” she added when told the show is returning in September.

    One guy even worked up the nerve to hit on Moore. “Are you single?” he asked.

    “I’m not single,” Moore said, blushing and laughing (the actress has been dating musician Taylor Goldsmith since last year.) The guy shrugged. “Might as well ask.”

    Not everybody had watched the show, though. “Next binge watch,” one passerby promised.

    Plus, Eicher pitches some other TV shows he’d like to see on television (yeah, we’d tune in to watch Michelle Branch as a detective).

  • Milo Ventimiglia Nabbed ‘This Is Us’ Role Despite Being ‘Completely Different’ Than What Producers Wanted

    This Is Us - Season 1You may think Milo Ventimiglia is perfect for his “This Is Us” role now, but producers and directors originally imagined someone “completely different” as Jack.

    Sitting down with actress Freida Pinto for Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series, Ventimiglia revealed he was met with surprise when he first walked in to audition for the part.

    “Apparently I wasn’t who they were looking for,” he told Pinto. “They wanted somebody completely different, and I walked in, you know, with my beard and my long hair, and set my motorcycle helmet down, and they went, ‘Who’s this guy?’”

    Fortunately, they were intrigued, and he soon won them over.

    “I think they just saw something different that someone who had practiced the words,” the actor said. “And they picked me.”

    Interestingly, we may owe Robert De Niro gratitude in a roundabout way. As Ventimiglia explained, his long hair worked for the part, and he had it that way because he emulates the older actor in growing out his beard and hair in between jobs. It sounds like the look helped him stand out, and for that, we are extremely grateful.

  • ‘This Is Us’ Star Chrissy Metz Fires Back Against Body Shamers: ‘I Wear What I Want’

    2017 MTV Movie And TV Awards - Show“This Is Us” star Chrissy Metz is fighting back against body shamers who criticized her outfit at Sunday night’s MTV Movie & TV Awards.

    Metz presented an award with co-star Milo Ventimiglia, and sported a short, shiny, red latex dress. It seems she got negative feedback, because she took to Twitter to declare satisfaction with her look:

    The 36-year-old actress has been outspoken about body shaming in the past. She recently penned a letter in People’s World’s Most Beautiful Issue to her younger self, saying, “Please stop comparing yourself to anyone or anything.”

    And in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar last month, she said, “It’s like, forget you’re on this amazing television show, you’re changing lives and opening discussion… I can’t go anywhere without people talking to me or recognizing me from the show,” she said. “This woman told me she never understood her daughter and her weight issues ’til she saw the show. She got teary-eyed, I started getting teary-eyed… it was beautiful.”

    This Is Us - Season 1Hit NBC drama “This Is Us” continues to break records — this time after a bidding war for its streaming rights reportedly broke out.

    With the network ready to find the show a new digital home, streaming giants like Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu were all interested in landing the popular series. In the end, Hulu was the one to emerge with the prize. The streamer had to pay a huge price tag for the honor, though; THR sources say the deal is record-breaking, with an enormous per-episode fee.

    The great thing for fans is that the deal makes “This Is Us” more accessible than ever. Hulu will be able to offer both current and past seasons of the acclaimed show. On top of that, NBC will share the digital rights, so viewers will be able to choose to use either company’s online platform and apps to catch up on episodes, depending on which they subscribe to.

    “This Is Us” Season 1 ran from late September to mid-March and inspired buzz throughout its run. The emotional roller coaster proved to be addicting, and critics and fans alike sang its praises. The series has already been renewed through Season 3, so Hulu — just like the rest of us — clearly hopes the show’s momentum will hold.

    After showing off a ’70s-style mustache as Jack Pearson on the hit NBC series, Ventimiglia decided to go clean-shaven again. His decision surprised fans and co-stars alike. In fact, Mandy Moore, who plays his onscreen wife, told PeopleStyle that they’ve all been texting about it.

    “We have like a gigantic cast text chain, and we’re like, Who is that young man?!” Moore said. “My first reaction was, like, I don’t know that person! That is not my husband, that is not the person I fell in love with!”

    Even though some of his co-workers may barely have recognized him, the look isn’t so unfamiliar. Ventimiglia spent years playing Jess on “Gilmore Girls” with a mustache-free face. His new (old) look might take some getting used, but we bet that everyone will soon be too distracted by Jack’s dramatic story again to care about his dearly departed mustache.

  • ‘This Is Us’ Isn’t Just Killing Off Milo Ventimiglia, But Taking His Facial Hair, Too

    Looks like “This Is Us” is getting ready to keep breaking our hearts.

    We already know that Milo Ventimiglia’s Jack Pearson dies at some point on the hit NBC family drama (sob). Now, we have to say goodbye to something else Jack-related: his facial hair.

    The show’s executive producer, Ken Olin, tweeted teaser videos from filming on the last four episodes. He wrote that they’ll “go places we’ve never been before.” And apparently, those places don’t have room for Jack’s mustache or beard.

    In another video, the clean-shaven Ventimiglia has a “second job” — working on a car:

    It’s not a huge surprise that Jack would get rid of his facial hair, as fashion and trends evolve from the ’80s into the ’90s. But we’ll still grieve the ‘stache anyway.

  • Watch Milo Ventimiglia Surprise ‘This Is Us’ Fan Who Was Watching the Show

That’s what happened to one lucky man enjoying an installment of “This Is Us,” when actor Milo Ventimiglia dropped by to say hello.

    The actor shared the surprising encounter on his Twitter account, explaining that he and a few other members of the “This Is Us” cast — including the three kids who play the Pearson children as teenagers — were shooting a scene in a Los Angeles neighborhood when they noticed that someone in the next house over was actually watching the series at the same time. Naturally, Ventimiglia decided to stride up to the front door to introduce himself and point out the coincidence.

    “We’re filming next door, and we happened to notice what you’re watching right now,” the actor told the surprised homeowner who answered his knock. “You’re watching us!”

    “Yes, I’m watching you,” the man — who introduced himself as Fred — replied, laughing.

    Ventimiglia and the teen actors all posed for photos with Fred, who seemed absolutely delighted — and no doubt bewildered — by the surreal encounter. Ventimiglia added in a follow-up tweet, “Our crew was as surprised & excited as Fred was.”

    So take note, L.A. area “This Is Us” fans: The next time you hear a knock while watching the show, you could see Jack Pearson on your doorstep.
