  • NFL Stars Read Mean Tweets in Honor of Super Bowl LI

mean tweets, jimmy kimmel live, nfl, super bowl liJimmy Kimmel has rolled out the latest version of his perennially popular — and consistently hilarious — Mean Tweets series, this time featuring a bunch of NFL stars reading a bunch of terrible Twitter comments about themselves.

The segment, timed to this weekend’s Super Bowl LI matchup, features superstar football players like Odell Beckham Jr., J.J. Watt, and Russell Wilson each taking themselves down a peg, with predictably humorous results. Some of the burns were particularly funny — and oddly specific. Watt reportedly “looks like a fat Macklemore,” while Von Miller allegedly resembles “an 80-year-old man from 1974,” whatever that means.

One tweet snarked about Maurice Jones Drew’s weight — while the former player was holding a plate of snacks. (We’re going to assume the “Jimmy Kimmel Live” crew may have had something to do with that coincidence.) And of course, another user got in a good dig about Rob Gronkowski’s intelligence (or lack thereof).

Some athletes seem to handle the criticisms better than others (one tweeter wrote that “Tony Romo sits down to pee”; “Well, what other way is there to pee?” Romo responded), but it seemed that mostly everyone took the comments in stride. After all, it’s probably pretty hard to care what some random Twitter user thinks about you when you’re a famous athlete making millions of dollars per year. (But that shouldn’t stop couch surfers from trying — we’d to see Mean Tweets continue forever.)

  • Watch Adorable Puppies Predict the Super Bowl LI Champs on ‘The Tonight Show’

puppies, puppy predictors, super bowl, winners, champions, super bowl li, super bowl 51, the tonight show“The Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon has continued his annual tradition of having a pack of adorable puppies pick the Super Bowl champions, with another edition of Puppy Predictors taking place on Thursday night’s program. And while the pups clearly had a favorite, really, we’re all winners when watching ridiculously cute canines prance around.

In the bit, Fallon explained that the dogs would be declaring a winner in Sunday’s Super Bowl LI matchup between the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons. The deciding factor: Which of two bowls of kibble — one inscribed with the Patriots’ name, the other with the Falcons’ — attracted more of the nine yellow labrador puppies present.

As Fallon released the hounds (one of them named Gary Frick Jr., in a nod to the host’s own yellow lab), they quickly crowded around the Falcons’ bowl, thus naming them the puppies’ official pick to win it all on Sunday. And Falcons fans should be feeling pretty good about that prediction, since last year, the Puppy Predictors ended up selecting the correct Super Bowl champs, the Denver Broncos.

Super Bowl LI is set for Sunday, February 5. But we can all agree that that matchup won’t be nearly as adorable as this one.

  • Melissa McCarthy Saves the Planet in Kia’s Super Bowl LI Commercial

melissa mccarthy, eco warrior, super bowl, commercialKia has released its commercial for Super Bowl LI a few days early, and the hilarious spot for the car company’s new hybrid model puts superstar Melissa McCarthy front and center.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a McCarthy project without some slapstick thrown in, and the game actress offers plenty in her quest to become the ultimate “eco-warrior,” saving the planet by assisting whales, trees, ice caps, and even rhinos — and, yes, driving a Kia hybrid. But her plans to do so don’t always go so well, especially when she’s being slammed into boats by breaching humpbacks, tossed into canyons by felled trees, or plunged into icy depths by cracking ice formations.

By the time she gets to the rhinos (“Rhinos?” she asks, a hint of incredulity and exhaustion in her voice), it seems that things would just be easier if the actress simply keeps on driving her Kia. Hey, that’s probably what Kia wants consumers to do, too!

Check out the silly ad above (which will probably be easier to watch online today than it will be to view on Super Bowl Sunday, between all the trips to the snack table). And good luck getting “Holdin’ Out for a Hero” out of your head.

  • Lady Gaga Confirms Super Bowl LI Halftime Show Performance

Lady Gaga Sings The National Anthem At Super Bowl 50Adele may not be performing at the Super Bowl Halftime Show in February, but another international superstar will be taking the stage instead: Lady Gaga just revealed that she’ll be headlining the performance.

Gaga, who many had speculated would be performing on the NFL’s biggest night, made the announcement on Twitter on Thursday night, confirming to her Little Monsters that “The rumors are true.”

“This year the SUPER BOWL goes GAGA!,” the singer wrote. She was joined in her excitement by the NFL itself, which used its own Twitter account to tout Gaga’s performance.

“Can’t wait. Let’s do this!” the NFL wrote in reply to the singer’s Tweet. It later posted a video mashing up excited players’ touchdown dances and sideline cheers with Gaga’s “Perfect Illusion” video.

Gaga previously performed at the Super Bowl just this year, where she sang the National Anthem before the big game. Music isn’t the only way the singer has been taking over our televisions, thanks to her Golden Globe-winning performance on “American Horror Story,” which she starred on during last year’s “Hotel” season. She’s also appearing on the current “Roanoke” season, too.

The Super Bowl will take place in Houston on Sunday, February 5, 2017. See you there, Little Monsters.
