  • New ’21 Bridges’ Trailer Tangles Chadwick Boseman’s Cop Up in Criminal Conspiracy

    STX Entertainment

The Russo brothers may be done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (for now), but they’re still working with members of the “Avengers” team.

At a Comic-Con panel today, the filmmaker brothers unveiled a new trailer for their next producing project, the crime thriller “21 Bridges,” starring Chadwick Boseman.

Directed by Brian Kirk, the film follows an NYPD detective who is thrust into a citywide manhunt for a pair of cop killers after uncovering a massive and unexpected conspiracy. Determined to catch the killers, Boseman goes to extreme lengths, including shutting down bridges and closing tunnels — basically locking the whole city of Manhattan down.

Over the course of the night, lines become blurred on who he is pursuing — and who is in pursuit of him.

The movie also stars Sienna Miller, Stephan James, Keith David, Taylor Kitsch and J.K. Simmons.

After “Avengers: Endgame,” Boseman has been very busy. His next projects is Spike Lee’s Netflix join “Da 5 Bloods.” And we fully expect a sequel to “Black Panther” at some point.

“21 Bridges” opens in theaters September 27.

We only recently found out “Terminator: Dark Fate” is definitely going to be R-rated, and now we can see why.

The film had a panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, and with the event came a new featurette. The video shows some of the film’s “grim,” “gritty” footage, and it’s not lacking in action or profanity. It teases what producer James Cameron calls a “fast, white-knuckle ride.”

“It’s R-fated, it’s grim, it’s gritty, it’s fast, it’s intense,” Cameron says. “It follows tonally in the footsteps of T1 and T2 — that adrenaline rush feeling, that sense of terror.”

Cameron, director Tim Miller, and stars Linda Hamilton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Natalia Reyes all weigh in, and they highlight how “intense” the upcoming film is. Hamilton describes the action as “10 times bigger,” while Schwarzenegger notes that it’s all about “work hard and play hard.”

Watch below — and just so you’re warned, this video contains profanity.

“Terminator: Dark Fate” hits theaters Nov. 1.

It’s finally here — the trailer for “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.”

Kevin Smith‘s much-anticipated followup to 2001’s “Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back” opens in theaters this fall, so the actor-director unveiled the movie’s official red band preview on Thursday. Not only does it show the latest adventures of Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith), it’s jam-packed with other well-known actors.

The reboot mocks reboots by having the stoner duo once against try to prevent a movie from being made. This time, its a reboot of the “Bluntman and Chronic” movie from the original.

“We’ve got three days to get to Hollywood and stop this movie from ever happening,” Jay says.

Of course, hijinks ensue, and along the way, we see actors who have previously appeared in the View Askewniverse return. The list includes Ben Affleck, Matt DamonJoey Lauren Adams, Jason Lee, Shannon Elizabeth, Jason Biggs, James Van Der Beek, and more. Plus, there are new cameos. Watch below — and know that it’s very, very NSFW.

“Jay and Silent Bob Reboot” opens Oct. 15.

  • ‘Terminator: Dark Fate’ Director Promises R-Rating

The next Terminator film will definitely not be family-friendly.

“Terminator: Dark Fate” director Tim Miller has announced that the upcoming film will be rated R. He dropped that MPAA rating bomb during a San Diego Comic-Con panel on Thursday, Variety reports. Fans in Hall H were reportedly excited to hear the news.

The franchise started off with a string of R-rated films. In fact, 1984’s “The Terminator,” 1991’s “Terminator 2: Judgment Day,” and 2003’s “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines” all received the rating from the MPAA. However, they were followed by 2009’s “Terminator Salvation” and 2015’s “Terminator: Genisys,” both of which received the more mild rating of PG-13. Fans didn’t approve of the change, and apparently Miller didn’t, either.

“The DNA of ‘Terminator’ is an R-rated f–king movie,” he said at Comic-Con.

The other big news to come out of the panel is that Edward Furlong will be back, reprising his role as John Connor from “Terminator 2,” as CNBC reports. The celebration of both announcements has already begun on Twitter:

“Terminator: Dark Fate” is slated to hit theaters on Nov. 1.

Pennywise is still the scariest clown in town.

The final “It: Chapter Two” trailer made its debut online on Thursday after being unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con the evening before. It’s another terrifying look at the return of Pennywise (Bill Skarsgard) and the havoc he wreaks in Derry, Maine. The preview brings us back into the sewers and into our nightmares.

We see plenty of the Losers. The grown-up versions of Beverly (Jessica Chastain), Bill (James McAvoy), Richie (Bill Hader), Eddie (James Ransone), Ben (Jay Ryan), and Mike (Isaiah Mustafa) remember their oath to stop “it.” Too bad Pennywise has had 27 years to prepare for his horrifying return. Watch below.

Eesh. We’re going to have to make sure we avoid all fairs, balloons, and manholes for the foreseeable future. And sleep with the light on.

The end is nigh for “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

The superhero spy series is set to end after its upcoming seventh season on ABC. The news came before the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel on Thursday, when Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb spoke with Deadline. He shared why they’re ending the show and what fans can expect from its conclusion.

Loeb acknowledged that fans may be disappointed to see the show go, but was quick to highlight that they still have the remainder of Season 6 and all of Season 7 to look forward to. Additionally, he pointed out that by choosing to end the show now, the creative team “can end on our own terms” and “make sure that we come to a conclusion that’s satisfying to the fans, to the cast, to Marvel, and to ABC.”

“When you know that’s what you’re doing, you can take greater risks, of life and death,” Loeb told Deadline. “Those kinds of decisions suddenly now are real on the table because you’re not playing how do we undo this when we get to the next season. You’re playing that this is going to be the end of the story.”

It might be small comfort to fans now, but the show will ultimately end two seasons after it previously was intended to. Loeb noted that they thought “Season 5 was the end” and wrote it that way. So, really, we’re lucky to be getting a seventh season, even if we’d still happily watch more.

“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” has had a good run. It kicked off in 2013, becoming the first of many MCU TV series. And hey, there’s always hope for more in some form in the future. As Loeb said, “Every great Marvel story ends to be continued.”

“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.

  • ‘Rick and Morty’ Creators Reveal Season 4 Details, Episode Count, Voice Cameos

‘Rick and Morty’ Creators Reveal Season 4 Details, Episode Count, Voice Cameos

    Adult Swim

“Rick and Morty” fans have been waiting forever (since October 2017) for new episodes of the Adult Swim animated hit.

They won’t have to wait much longer — last year, creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland signed on to make 70 (!) more episodes. And Adult Swim announced Season 4 will debut in November.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, the creators revealed more details about the highly-anticipated new season. First, Roiland confirmed it will run for 10 episodes.

And in news that should further delight fans, they’ll get to work immediately on the next batch of episodes.

“I think it’s safe to say without fear of being wrong that the gap between seasons 3 and 4 will be the longest and last time that it’s ever so long that it’s ridiculous. I don’t know how fast we can do it, but I know it will never be this long again,” Harmon said.

He added, “We’re literally writing season 5 while finishing season 4 just to force ourselves to commit to a certain schedule.”

As usual, the show will bring in big names for guest starring voice roles.

“We’ve got Paul Giamatti. That’s a hot scoop,” Roiland said. “We got Sam Neil. Taika Waititi does a voice. Kathleen Turner.”

The creators did not tease much in the way of spoilers, but Roiland did suggest fans watch past episodes in order.

“We have serialized stuff we check in on now and then that’s sprinkled over the top of strong episodic episodes.”

The highly anticipated “Game of Thrones” panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 will look different than expected.

A handful of key players have backed out of the event. HBO has updated its list of panelists, and noticeably absent are showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, actors Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont) and Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei), and director Miguel Sapochnik, as Variety reports. HBO chalked the changes up to production and schedule conflicts.

The good news is that there are still plenty of panelists set to participate. Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth), Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm), John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Conleth Hill (Varys), and Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark) are all on the list. The “Game of Thrones” Twitter account promoted their presence in a tweet Wednesday.

This will be a last hurrah of sorts. The eighth and final season of “Game of Thrones” concluded in May, so the event is bound to be bittersweet. The panel is set for Friday, July 19 at 5:30 p.m. in SDCC’s Hall H.

  • Marvel Wins Lawsuit (6 Years Later) Over ‘Iron Man 3’ Poster

Marvel Wins Lawsuit (6 Years Later) Over ‘Iron Man 3’ Poster

    Marvel

Marvel just won a copyright lawsuit over its design for the 2013 movie power for “Iron Man 3.”

On Monday, a New York federal judge delivered a summary judgment victory for the studio.

Horizon Comics Productions, a company run by Ben and Ray Lai,  claimed that the official “Iron Man 3” poster was too similar to their design for a character named Caliban in their comic book series Radix.

    Marvel/Radix

Although they were hired by Marvel in 2002 and worked on various comic book franchises,  U.S. District Court Judge J. Paul Oetken ruled, “there is virtually no evidence in the record that shows any one of these individuals either would have seen the Caliban Drawing or would have been involved in the ‘Iron Man 3’ Poster design, let alone both. Horizon’s arguments that these individuals could provide an access nexus is founded on nothing more than speculation.”

Horizon argued the two works were “strikingly similar,” and produced an expert report discussing anatomical structures, faces and heads, and camera views.

The judge sided with Marvel, who pointed out differences in pose, differing placement of lights, and “significantly different” overall coloring.

The judge’s final thoughts: “In contrast to Horizon’s virtually non-existent evidence of copying, Marvel has introduced unrebutted evidence showing its independent creation of the Iron Man 3 Poster.”
