  • ‘M:I6’ Director Defends Henry Cavill’s Mustache in ‘Justice League’ Spat

Some day the bards will sing of MustacheGate, and “Mission: Impossible 6” director Christopher McQuarrie swears that in exactly one year we’ll understand why it’s happening.

You probably read that Henry Cavill‘s mustache for “M:I6” is causing problems for the “Justice League” reshoots, and Warner Bros. will have to digitally remove the stache so Clark Kent doesn’t look like Clark Gable.

The report included the note that Paramount is refusing to allow Cavill to shave for his mysterious “Mission: Impossible” role. Director McQuarrie referenced the kerfuffle on Twitter, aiming to defend the decision not to ax the stache for Superman:

    Okay…

M:I6 is scheduled to open, as promised, about a year from now on July 27, 2018. Meanwhile, “Justice League” and its reshoots/digital-mustache-erasing is cutting things pretty close, since the movie opens in just a few months on November 17.

  • Henry Cavill’s ‘Mission: Impossible 6’ Mustache Causing ‘Justice League’ Problem

Jaeger-LeCoultre For Gold Cup Polo FinalFacial hair, apparently, is Warner Bros. kryptonite.

A new report from Variety details the various headaches arising from the extensive “Justice League” reshoots, from a ballooning budget to how to credit Joss Whedon, who stepped in for Zack Snyder when the latter exited the project in March after his daughter’s suicide.

And one of those headaches? A mustache. And not the kind twirled by villains.

Henry Cavill, who plays Superman, is also currently filming “Mission: Impossible 6,” for which he grew facial hair. Variety notes he had been expected to be done with that project, but now has to juggle filming on both movies. And Paramount refuses to allow Cavill to shave, which means Warner Bros. has to shell out even more money to digitally remove it in post-production.

Though, how cool would a Super ‘Stache be?

“Justice League” hits theaters November 17.

  • ‘Mission: Impossible 6’ Filming Photos Have Us Intrigued, and Jealous

If you happen to be spending Springtime in Paris, keep an eye out for Henry Cavill. He’s running around out there — literally running, since he’s training for the Durrell Challenge while filming “Mission: Impossible 6.” DC’s Superman is a new addition to the M:I world, joining Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, and director Christopher McQuarrie as they film the sixth movie in the franchise for its 2018 release.

Filming started earlier this month, with Tom Cruise almost immediately up on a roof for a stunt. Both McQuarrie and Cavill have kept fans up-to-date with beautiful Parisian photos to remind us that they are living the dream out there while we’re doing whatever we’re doing.

The photo at top (in full below) with the director, Cruise, and Cavill shows the actors geared up for some kind of night stunt. (Are they about to jump off something?) There’s no official word yet on Cavill’s role, or what Cruise’s Ethan Hunt and Ferguson’s Ilsa Faust will be up to this time.

    Here’s more from the filmmakers:

  • ‘Mission: Impossible 6’ Starts Filming, With Tom Cruise Already Pulling Stunts

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation UK Fan ScreeningYour mission, should you choose to accept it, is to get hyped for “Mission: Impossible 6,” which comes out in July 2018.

Tom Cruise‘s Ethan Hunt is back, along with Rebecca Ferguson, with Jeremy Renner not in play for MI6, but Superman himself Henry Cavill joining the team.

Director Christopher McQuarrie announced the official start of filming:

Henry Cavill took a cuter approach when teasing his film preparation, including his dog in every shot:

That Traveling Bear needs to be in the movie.

“Mission: Impossible 6” started filming April 8, and paparazzi actually got the first shots of the movie when they found Tom Cruise on a Paris roof, surrounding by helicopters (of course). Will this stunt be able to top Tom Cruise’s now iconic plane scene from “Rogue Nation”? In February while prepping this movie, McQuarrie teased the next big stunts to Empire Podcast:

“I may have found something today. I came to Tom with a picture of something and Tom looked at it and said, ‘That’s awesome! I want to fall off of that!’ It’s like, OK, I can see it on a poster, and I can see Tom falling off of it.”

Nice! However, he cautioned that this stunt would not be the opener. “It starts in a very unconventional way. It does not start with action. That was the hardest pitch of this movie.”

McQuarrie also said we’ll see “a very different Ethan Hunt, I can promise you that.” After five films, the director said he didn’t really know Ethan yet, so this time, “I want an emotional journey for this character, and Tom really embraced it.’

“Mission: Impossible 6” is currently scheduled for release on July 27, 2018.

  • ‘Mission: Impossible 6’ Lands Same Release Date as ‘Aquaman’

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to track down a 2018 calendar and circle Friday, July 27 for both Tom Cruise‘s “Mission: Impossible 6” and DC’s “Aquaman” standalone movie starring Jason Momoa.

More movies will be added to that release date as it gets closer, and it’s possible one of these movies will move away in the coming year and a half. But Paramount just announced that Cruise’s sixth “Mission: Impossible” film is set for July 27, 2018. Cruise closed his deal for the movie back in September, after salary negotiations halted pre-production. Filming will reportedly begin in spring 2017.

The fifth film in the franchise, “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,” was released in July 2015 and made $195 million over here and $682 million worldwide. Director Christopher McQuarrie will return for “Mission: Impossible 6,” and Variety reports that he has been developing the script with Cruise. Rebecca Ferguson, a standout in “Rogue Nation,” will reportedly return for the sixth film, too.Meanwhile, Comicbook reports that “Aquaman” director James Wan and stars Momoa, Amber Heard, and Willem Dafoe are heading to the Gold Coast of Australia to start pre-production on that film.

May the best unbelievable stunts win!

  • Tom Cruise Closes Deal for ‘Mission: Impossible 6’

Mission ImpossibleGuess they showed him the money.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Cruise has nearly closed a deal with Paramount to return in “Mission: Impossible 6” after contentious salary negotiations halted pre-production last month. Cruise reportedly wanted to make as much as he did for Universal’s “The Mummy,” but Paramount balked at upping back-end profits for Cruise and fellow producers Bad Robot and Skydance.

But THR now says that “issues have been resolved” and the movie is moving forward with filming beginning in spring 2017. It’s unclear if Cruise got the money he wanted, but considering the last two “Mission” movies each earned nearly $700 million worldwide, he definitely had the leverage.

Christopher McQuarrie, who directed “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,” will return to the helm. Rebecca Ferguson, who played Ilsa Faust in “Rogue Nation,” is also set to reprise her role.

  • ‘Mission: Impossible 6’ Has Stalled Over Tom Cruise’s Pay: Report

    Show him the money!

The next “Mission: Impossible” movie has halted pre-production, The Hollywood Reporter was told, because of a dispute over Tom Cruise‘s paycheck. The actor is now shooting “The Mummy” and sources told THR he wants to match or exceed what he’s getting paid by Universal for that movie. Apparently back-end profit participation is a point of contention, and since the last two “Mission: Impossible” movies both made nearly $700 million around the world — and were also big hits with critics — he’s probably hoping the sixth film in the franchise does even better and he can take home even more pay.

    And why not?

He’s a producer as well as the main star, and he’s known for doing his own stunts, and promoting the holy heck out of each movie. And even though Ethan Hunt’s name isn’t a focal point — like Jason Bourne, James Bond, Jack Ryan, or Jack Reacher (why always a J-guy?) — it’s hard to imagine pulling off a successful MI movie without Tom Cruise.

The movie was prepping for a January 2017, with Christopher McQuarrie writing and directing. THR said this is the second delay for “Mission: Impossible 6” after script issues reportedly pushed the start month from November to January. Actually, last summer Cruise said they had hoped to start shooting MI6 this summer, and that didn’t happen. Now it’s not clear when production will start and if the potential blockbuster will still hit its target of a late 2017 release date.

In April, Cruise promised MI6 would have “… more incredible set pieces, stunts…and what I think is a very entertaining and compelling story.” We look forward to seeing it, and hope it doesn’t self-destruct before we get the chance.

  • Tom Cruise Says ‘Mission: Impossible 6’ Is Already in the Works

Get ready for even more “Mission: Impossible“: On the eve of the release of the fifth film in the hit franchise, star Tom Cruise has revealed that a sixth flick is already in the works.

Cruise made the announcement on Tuesday night during an appearance on “The Daily Show,” where he was promoting this weekend’s upcoming release, “Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation.” In an interview with host Jon Stewart, Cruise said that fans can expect more adventures from Ethan Hunt and co. sooner than normal.

“We’re starting to work on it now. We’ll probably start shooting it next summer,” the actor said of the series’s sixth installment.

Variety notes that that’s an accelerated schedule for the venerable action franchise, which typically has at least a four-year gap between releases. The original “Mission: Impossible” hit theaters back in 1996, and follow-up installments launched in 2000, 2006, and 2011 before this summer’s release.

Studio Paramount declined to comment on Cruise’s announcement, though it makes sense that the star would be bullish about the film’s prospects. The “Mission: Impossible” series has been a huge success since its launch, grossing more than $2 billion combined at the international box office, and buzz for “Rogue Nation” is incredibly loud, thanks to Cruise’s high-profile stunts.

We’ll see if the actor is right about the production schedule, but it seems like a safe bet that audiences will be seeing “Mission: Impossible 6” at some point over the next few years.
