  • Watch Kelly Clarkson Fangirl Over Meryl Streep at the Golden Globes: ‘Can I Meet You?’

NBC's '75th Annual Golden Globe Awards' - Red Carpet ArrivalsThe best of moment of the 2018 Golden Globes happened on the red carpet — it was the beautiful moment in which Kelly Clarkson met her idol Meryl Streep. Seriously, at that point, everyone could have gone home, because there was no topping it.

Clarkson was on the red carpet next to “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest on Sunday when she spotted the legendary actress. Immediately, the multi-Grammy winner morphed into a fangirl, nearly tripping down the stairs and then pointing out the obvious.

“That’s Meryl. That’s Meryl Streep,” she told Seacrest in disbelief.

Her reaction only got more priceless from there. She called down the stairs to Streep, asking her, “Can I meet you? I’m such a fan! … I’ve adored you since I was, like, 8.”

Seacrest was obviously as charmed as the rest of us, and he shared a photo of it on Twitter, captioning it “that moment when @Kelly_Clarkson sees Meryl Streep and freaks out.”

And, of course, fans were living for it, too. People wrote that Clarkson’s reaction was pure, relatable, and all-around heart-warming.

See? The awards show was great and all, but we saw all we needed to on the red carpet.

  • Meryl Streep, Kevin Smith, Judi Dench Speak Out Against Harvey Weinstein

Australian Academy Of Cinema And Television Arts International Awards CeremonyThe fallout continues for Harvey Weinstein after last week’s bombshell report from the New York Times that alleged decades of sexual harassment from the powerhouse producer. After losing his job at The Weinstein Company, Weinstein is now also losing the support of some of the biggest stars that have worked with him in the past.

The most famous among them is Meryl Streep, who released a statement to The Huffington Post blasting the producer’s alleged behavior — which includes exposing himself and asking women to give him massages and watch him shower, among other inappropriate requests — and admitting she was unaware of the wrongdoing. Streep, who has collaborated numerous times with Weinstein, winning an Oscar for his 2011 production “The Iron Lady,” called Weinstein’s alleged actions “disgraceful” and “inexcusable.”

Here’s her full statement to HuffPo:

“The disgraceful news about Harvey Weinstein has appalled those of us whose work he championed, and those whose good and worthy causes he supported. The intrepid women who raised their voices to expose this abuse are our heroes.

One thing can be clarified. Not everybody knew. Harvey supported the work fiercely, was exasperating but respectful with me in our working relationship, and with many others with whom he worked professionally. I didn’t know about these other offenses: I did not know about his financial settlements with actresses and colleagues; I did not know about his having meetings in his hotel room, his bathroom, or other inappropriate, coercive acts. And If everybody knew, I don’t believe that all the investigative reporters in the entertainment and the hard news media would have neglected for decades to write about it.

The behavior is inexcusable, but the abuse of power familiar. Each brave voice that is raised, heard and credited by our watchdog media will ultimately change the game.”

Judi Dench, another actress who won an Oscar while working with Weinstein (for 1998’s “Shakespeare in Love”), also denounced the exec. In a statement to Newsweek, Dench voiced her support for his alleged victims.

    The statement said:

“Whilst there is no doubt that Harvey Weinstein has helped and championed my film career for the past 20 years, I was completely unaware of these offenses which are, of course, horrifying, and I offer my sympathy to those who have suffered, and wholehearted support to those who have spoken out.”

While he has yet to make additional remarks on the subject, filmmaker Kevin Smith also briefly touched upon the Weinstein scandal in a tweet sent out on Monday. Weinstein was an early champion of Smith and helped launch his career, with Mirimax distributing the writer-director’s 1994 debut, “Clerks.”

“He financed the first 14 years of my career – and now I know while I was profiting, others were in terrible pain,” Smith tweeted, responding to a question about the scandal. “It makes me feel ashamed.”

The New York Times reported last week that numerous women — including employees, actresses, and models — have claimed that Weinstein sexually harassed them over a nearly three-decade period. Ashley Judd went on the record to accuse Weinstein, and the Times reported that the exec paid at least eight women, including Rose McGowan, settlements over similar claims.

  • Steven Spielberg Raids Prestige TV Shows For Pentagon Papers Movie

'Five Came Back' World PremiereForget movie starts slumming it in television. Now, TV is where big-name directors go to find talent to stack their films.

Steven Spielberg already signed up legends Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep for “The Papers,” about the classified Pentagon Papers that were revealed in 1971. Now, he’s raiding prestige TV for the rest of the cast, and wow — it looks like he just looked at last year’s Emmys nominations and started calling everyone on the list.

Here’s who is joining the movie: Sarah Paulson (“People v. O.J. Simpson,” “American Horror Story”), Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul”), Matthew Rhys (“The Americans”), Bradley Whitford (“Transparent,” “West Wing”), Carrie Coon (“The Leftovers,” “Fargo”), Jesse Plemons (“Fargo,” “Breaking Bad”), David Cross (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), Alison Brie (“Community,” “Mad Men”), Bruce Greenwood (“American Crime Story”), Tracy Letts (“Divorce,” “Homeland”), Michael Stuhlbarg (“Fargo,” “Boardwalk Empire”, and Zach Woods (“Silicon Valley”).

The Pentagon Papers first came to light in the New York Times. Then, the Washington Post began to run its own series on the information, and had to fight the government for their First Amendment rights. Hanks will play Post editor Ben Bradlee, and Streep will play publisher Kay Graham.

The movie has been fast-tracked to open this awards season, with a limited release on Dec. 22 and a wide release in early January.

  • Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks to Star in Steven Spielberg Drama About Pentagon Papers

SeriousFun Children's Network 2015 New York Gala: An Evening Of SeriousFun Celebrating the Legacy Of Paul Newman - InsideFreedom of the press — and it role as a government watchdog — will be at the heart of Steven Spielberg’s next movie, which teams up two of Hollywood’s biggest stars in Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks for the first time.

Spielberg has signed on to direct “The Post,” a very timely drama about the Washington Post’s role in publishing the Pentagon Papers in 1971. Hanks will play editor Ben Bradlee, while Streep will play publisher Katherine Graham, both of whom engaged in a legal battle with the government over the right to publish the controversial classified study that revealed damning information about the Vietnam War.

The case went all the way up to the Supreme Court, which ruled in favor of the Post and the New York Times on the grounds of the First Amendment.

Streep is coming off her 20th Oscar nomination for “Florence Foster Jenkins,” and is currently filming “Mary Poppins Returns.” Hanks is next seen in sci-fi thriller “The Circle.”

  • Here’s the ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ Plot Synopsis and Full Cast List

The Stars Come Out For The World Premiere Of 'Into the Woods' - After PartyDisney has finally released the official synopsis and confirmed cast list for its upcoming sequel to beloved classic “Mary Poppins,” and it sounds like the flick will be an equal mix of nostalgia-inducing characters from the original, as well as plenty of new people and adventures to delight the next generation of filmgoers.

The cast of “Mary Poppins Returns” will be headlined by Emily Blunt in the titular role, taking over for the iconic Julie Andrews. She’s joined in the star-studded ensemble by Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, and Ben Whishaw. Additionally, young actors Pixie Davies, Joel Dawson, and Nathanael Saleh will star as the children of the grown-up Michael Banks.

Here’s the synopsis released by Disney this week:

“Michael (Whishaw) and Jane (Mortimer) are now grown up, with Michael, his three children and their housekeeper, Ellen (Walters), living on Cherry Tree Lane. After Michael suffers a personal loss, the enigmatic nanny Mary Poppins re-enters the lives of the Banks family, and, along with the optimistic street lamplighter Jack (Miranda), uses her unique magical skills to help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.”

The film will feature “a new assortment of colorful and whimsical characters, including [Mary’s] eccentric cousin, Topsy (Streep),” as well as a cameo from Dick Van Dyke, who played Mary’s pal, the chimney sweep Bert, in the original. In a fun bit of meta casting, Van Dyke will be portraying Mr. Dawes Jr., the chairman of Fidelity Fiduciary Bank; the actor also played that character’s father, Mr. Dawes Sr., in the 1964 flick (with Van Dyke disguised in old age makeup). In “Returns,” Firth’s character, William Weatherall Wilkins, runs the bank’s day-to-day operations.

Production is currently underway in England. “Mary Poppins Returns” is scheduled to hit theaters on December 25, 2018.

  • Meet Fan Bingbing, the Actress Who Makes More Than Jennifer Aniston

    Fan Bingbing
    Fan Bingbing

She made more than Hollywood queens Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts and Angelina Jolie.

So when Fan Bingbing was recently ranked by Forbes as the world’s fourth highest-paid actress of 2015 – with a whopping $21 million payday – the response for many was: Who?

That is, many who don’t live and watch movies in Asia.

The 33-year-old Fan follows Melissa McCarthy, $23 million; Scarlett Johansson, $35.5 million; and the top breadwinner Jennifer Lawrence, who earned $52 million. Of the 18 leading ladies on the annual Forbes list, Fan is the only foreign-language film star.

Internationally, Fan is known as an actress, pop singer and fashion icon. She began her career as a TV star in the late ’90s on the Chinese series “My Fair Princess,” and in 2003 she starred in the highest-grossing Chinese film of the year, “Cell Phone.” Her popularity led to a string of other big international film hits and endorsement deals for beauty products, like her most recent role as spokesperson for L’Oreal Paris. Fan has ranked in the top 10 of the Forbes China celebrity earners list every year since 2006.

And she appears to be making a move for Hollywood recognition, too. The beauty flirted with American stardom after making her Hollywood debut in the 2014 hit “X-Men: Days of Future Past” as Blink and is contracted to reprise her role in the next four sequels, she revealed in an interview last year.

For 2015, she’s slated for more face time with U.S. audiences in the action-fantasy flick “The Moon and the Sun,” opposite Pierce Brosnan.

    See the rankings below.

    Jennifer Lawrence: $52 million
    Scarlett Johansson: $35.5 million

  • Does ‘Ricki and the Flash’ Rock as Hard as Star Meryl Streep?

    rickiflash

Meryl Streep continues to show she really can do it all in “Ricki and the Flash.” Playing a guitar heroine who follows her dreams of becoming a rock star, she was every bit believable for the lead Ricki Rendazzo, critics say.

As for the rest of the film, given a 69 percent rating by Rotten Tomatoes, some reviews found the emotional roller coaster that the characters go on an excellent accompaniment to Streep’s performance – while others say without her, Diablo Cody’s screenplay falls flat.

Also starring Streep’s real-life daughter Mamie Gummer, Rick Springfield, Sebastian Stan, Nick Westrate, Kevin Kline and Audra McDonald, the movie prompted some disagreement over whether the characters connected on camera.

“Streep is just undefeatable no matter what role you throw at her and in this, her third musical feature, she again proves she is as talented in the singing department as she is acting” — Pete Hammond, Deadline

Other reviewers are praising the award-winning actress’ performance as well. But to say they would have “loved” it overall, had it not been for Streep, seems to be an overstatement.

“‘Ricki and the Flash’ struggles a bit with flow, especially as the first half of the film works out a rhythm before things drastically changing course. All of a sudden, you’ll find yourself in a chunk of musical moments with barely any dialogued scenes spaced in between them. Looking at this film from a musical standpoint, that’s what you would call poor planning. Again, this is not Streep’s fault” —Nick Romano, CinemaBlend.com

“(E)ven with its well-observed moments, the movie’s nonmusical interactions, whether reaching for laughs or poignancy, too often feel flat and forced.” — Sheri Linden, The Hollywood Reporter

And kudos went to Gummer, who plays Streep’s daughter, with critics find that the acting chops are in the family DNA.

“Most of the focus is on her daughter, and they eventually come to a peace more out of inertia than enlightenment. Both are smart enough to recognize their similarities. We expect Streep to be marvelous, but her supporting cast, including bandmate/boyfriend Greg (80s heartthrob Rick Springfield) all match her intensity. For Gummer, this launches her to the A-list where she belongs.” —Jordan Hoffman, The Guardian

  • Meryl Streep Says Neil Young Taught Her How to Be a Rock Star

She’s Hollywood royalty. So when Meryl Streep had to learn how to convincingly play guitar for her new film “Ricki and the Flash,” she turned to rock royalty.

“He said crank it up to 11,” the Oscar winner tells Jimmy Fallon of her tutorial with Neil Young during a visit to “The Tonight Show” on Monday. The sage advice from the “amazing” Grammy-winning musician was something that resonated for her role in the musical dramedy. “My first lesson was 45 minutes with Neil. It’s fantastic.”

But the encounter came entirely by surprise.

“Neil Young was inside recording something for his new sound system,” she recalls of what seemed like an ordinary lesson, adding that her guitar teacher said to her, “Come on, Neil would like to meet you and maybe I’ll get him to give you a guitar lesson.”

In “Ricki and the Flash,” Streep plays a failed rock and roll singer. She riffs away with some well-known musicians in the movie, including Rick Springfield. Even so, playing the actual music with other musicians was one of the best things about filming the movie.

“We had a set done in Brooklyn on the docks,” she shares. “We built this very funky club inside and all the extras came in and all day we would play because we did all the music loaded into the front of the shoot. It was sort of like being at a party for eight days. One of the extras said, ‘Man, I wish this was a real bar.’”

“Ricki and the Flash,” co-starring her on-and-off-screen daughter Mamie Gummer, Kevin Kline and Audra McDonald, hits theaters on Friday. Watch the trailer below.
