Yeah, we wanna build a snowman, but we also wanna see “Lip Sync Battle.” Season 2 starts Thursday, January 7 on Spike, and the network just shared a promo for the “Tatum Takedown” with Chan and Jenna Dewan-Tatum — including Channing as Elsa from “Frozen.” The cold never bothered him anyway!
“I just really hope our marriage isn’t over after tonight,” Channing says in the trailer, which promotes the husband vs. wife showdown. Jenna tells her hubby, “We’re a house divided at the moment. We’re going to war.”
Channing and Jenna met while making the dance movie “Step Up,” and even though Chan is the bigger celebrity right now, Jenna is the real dance pro. This could be close … unless the winner is determined by who looks the most ridiculous. Then it’s definitely Chan’s trophy. Just watch:
The promo teases “a full hour of big performances and special guests,” and it has already been confirmed that Beyoncé will be performing alongside Chan. With the power of Queen Bey and Queen Elsa, is there any way he can lose?
Lip Sync Battle” crown again, and is teaming up with his “The Night Before” costars Seth Rogen and Anthony Mackie for an epic holiday special edition of the Spike show.
Gordon-Levitt, Rogen, and Mackie are set to throw down later this month, joining hosts LL Cool J and Chrissy Teigen for some holiday-themed debauchery, complete with Rogen playing a naughty Elf on the Shelf and an appearance from rappers Run-D.M.C., who perform (well, “perform,” since they’ll probably be lip syncing, too) their classic “Christmas in Hollis.” Other special guests are set to drop in, too.
But the real draw will be to see if Gordon-Levitt can once again claim “Lip Sync Battle” glory, following his The Tonight Show,” where he went head-to-head with Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Merchant. While Fallon granted both men the crown, audiences seemingly sided with Gordon-Levitt, and he’s not likely to leave the “Lip Sync Battle” stage this time without sole possession of the championship belt — even if he’s gotta dress in drag as Janet Jackson to do it.
Check out a preview of the fun below. The “Lip Sync Battle” holiday special airs on November 19 on Spike.
What a show! Both “Lip Sync Battle” — and by A-games we mean they both channeled their feminine sides and also played dress-up in ridiculous outfits. They sold their performances. But many fans — even people who would never dream of defending Justin Bieber — think he may have been robbed of a win. Not that Deion slacked, especially in his “Like a Virgin” crawl. That was magic. But JB completely committed to his Ozzy impression in “Crazy Train” and pulled a 180 for a cheeky but heartfelt rendition of Fergie’s “Big Girls Don’t Cry.” Ozzy vs. Madonna was a close one, but when JB put on his “Big Girl” pants, he slayed Deion’s “Play That Funky Music.” The Biebs deserved to win just for the stones to open with that “surprise song,” as host LL Cool J put it.
Watch all four performances and decide who you think should’ve won. Congrats to Deion, but we would’ve gone the other way. Then again, maybe losing at LSB is the kind of thing that will just help Justin’s reputation. A lot of commenting fans seem to think he did a great job and should’ve won. Now, maybe, instead of being seen as a spoiled brat, he’s the unappreciated underdog.
“Lip Sync Battle” is returning to Spike with new episodes this Thursday, and what better way to celebrate than a new clip previewing actress Alison Brie‘s domination of Salt-N-Pepa classic “Shoop”?
Though it’s not the full song — fans will have to wait for the episode to air to see that — the clip still gives audiences a taste of Brie’s impressive lip-syncing skills, and it seems that the petite performer has come to win. Brie makes it clear that she knows the song cold, mouthing the tongue-twisting lyrics with ease, and throwing in some sexy dance moves for good measure. (This isn’t the first time Salt-N-Pepa has appeared on the show, either; the duo came to compete on the show themselves, going head-to-head on a previous episode of the program.)
If this opening shot is any indication, Brie isn’t going to hand over the “Lip Sync Battle” championship belt to competitor Will Arnett without a fight. Check out this teaser — and Brie’s teasing performance — below.
“Lip Sync Battle” is back on Spike on Thursday at 10 p.m.
At a loss for what to watch this week? From new DVDs and Blu-rays, to what’s streaming on Netflix, we’ve got you covered.
TV Worth Watching
“7 Days in Hell” (Saturday on HBO at 10 p.m.)
Bless whoever came up with this random 45-minute mockumentary about an epic seven-day tennis match. Andy Samberg — looking more “Joe Dirt” David Spade than Andre Agassi — and Kit Harington (Jon Snow + comedy = win) are the players, with real tennis stars like Serena Williams and John McEnroe giving commentary.
“The Spoils Before Dying” (Wednesday on IFC at 9 p.m.)
Are you ready for this three-night television event? Not possible! But it’s coming anyway. “The Spoils Before Dying” is the comedy follow-up to “The Spoils of Babylon” miniseries. This spoof once again stars Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig, Haley Joel Osment, Val Kilmer, Michael Sheen, Maya Rudolph and more, this time following a 1950s jazz pianist turned private eye who gets involved in a murder investigation. The miniseries will air over three nights — two hours each night, July 8-10 — on IFC. Here’s the trailer:
“Lip Sync Battle” (Thursday on Spike at 10 p.m.)
The must-see Spike showdown has been on a break since May 28, but it’s back with a vengeance starting July 9 with Alison Brie vs. Will Arnett. The rest of the guests are just as awesome (Justin Bieber vs. Deion Sanders?!) and you won’t want to miss a single note.
“Masters of Sex” (Sunday on Showtime at 10 p.m.)
Showtime is bringing sexy — or at least clinical discussions of sex organs — back for Season 3 of the Lizzy Caplan/Michael Sheen drama. Episode 1 has the great title “Parliament of Owls,” and follows Masters and Johnson as they prepare to publish their study.
New Video on Demand, Rental Streaming, and Digital Only
“Strangerland” (iTunes)
On July 10, iTunes will start streaming four movies that also open on the same day in theaters: “Nowitzki,” “What We Did On Our Holiday,” “10,000 KM” and “Strangerland.” In “Strangerland,” Nicole Kidman and Joseph Fiennes play a couple who discover that their teenage children have disappeared just before a massive dust storm hits their remote Australian town.
“Prime Suspect” (Hulu)
Settle in and prepare to binge on seven seasons of the original Helen Mirren police procedural masterpiece. This puppy got an NBC remake, but nothing compares to the British version, with Mirren as Jane Tennison, one of the first female Detective Chief Inspectors in Greater London’s Metropolitan Police Service. Watch Seasons 1-7 on Hulu starting July 9.
“True Story”
James Franco and Jonah Hill star in this psychological thriller based on a chilling real-life story. It’s available on Digital HD this Friday, July 10, well ahead of its August 4 DVD/Blu-ray release. Hill plays a disgraced New York Times reporter who learns that an accused killer (Franco) has been impersonating him, leading to a fascinating game of cat-and-mouse.
New on DVD and Blu-ray
“Woman in Gold”
Helen Mirren plays a Jewish woman who — with the help of her young lawyer, played by Ryan Reynolds — attempts to reclaim family possessions seized by the Nazis. The Blu-ray includes “The Making of Woman In Gold,” feature commentary with director Simon Curtis and producer David M. Thompson, and the trailer for the documentary “Stealing Klimt.”
“Maggie”
In this father-daughter zombie apocalypse drama, Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a small-town farmer who refuses to accept defeat when his daughter Maggie (Abigail Breslin) becomes infected. Special features include a “Making Maggie” featurette, a deleted scene, cast and crew interviews, and audio commentary with director Henry Hobson.
“Awaken”
If you like your horror twisted, consider this black market body parts thriller starring Jason London, Daryl Hannah, Vinnie Jones and Edward Furlong. A group of young adults wake up on a deserted tropical island with no idea why they’ve been kidnapped, then let go, only to be hunted down like animals. Turns out, this is part of a human organ harvesting operation that picks and chooses from the strongest and most fit survivors. Sick! Ramsay Bolton would love it.
“Chris Tucker Live”
Chris Tucker’s new stand-up comedy special premieres exclusively on Netflix on July 10. The “Rush Hour” star is the latest addition to Netflix’s comedy special lineup, including Aziz Ansari, Craig Ferguson, Nick Offerman, Chelse Peretti and Chelsea Handler.
“Serena”
Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper — who can’t stop making movies together, not that we’re complaining — play newlyweds in this not very well received drama set in the late 1920s. Check it out on Netflix starting July 9.
“The Secret of Roan Inish”
This one started streaming on Netflix on July 1, but there’s not a lot new on Netflix this exact week, so — in case you missed it — you should definitely consider checking out this 1994 John Sayles indie set in an Irish fishing village.
Three mouthed-but-not-vocalized cheers for the return of “Lip Sync Battle”! Spike TV’s epic celebrity showdown, hosted by LL Cool J, was an instant hit when it debuted with Dwayne Johnson vs. Jimmy Fallon back in April. It really picked up steam with the Anne Hathaway vs. Emily Blunt match, traumatized us — in a good way — with Stephen Merchant and later Julianne Hough, then dipped a bit before going on break. Season 1 is not over, but it’s been off the air since May 28. But now it’s back with a vengeance, starting next Thursday, July 9.
Here’s the upcoming lineup:
• Alison Brie vs. Will Arnett — July 9 • Justin Bieber vs. Deion Sanders — July 16 • Andy Cohen vs. Willie Geist — July 23 • Victoria Justice vs. Gregg Sulkin — July 30 • Abbi Jacobson vs. Ilana Glazer — August 6 • Iggy Azalea vs. Nick Young — August 13 • Terrence Howard vs. Taraji P. Henson — August 20
The shows were all pre-taped, so check out Spike’s preview, showing Will Arnett’s “Lego” routine; badass Alison Brie shooting down a photo of her opponent, Arnett (she’s totally winning her battle, you can tell just from the promo); Justin Bieber going full Ozzy, then reviving Deion Sanders; Terrence Howard playing dress up and the “Empire” stars getting back-up from Mary J. Blige herself:
Bring it on! This is serious must-see TV, so you’d better be there. Shows air at 10 p.m. Thursdays on Spike TV, then the best clips are usually posted to the show’s YouTube page.
Spike’s breakout hit show is putting on a one-off, double-header live performance at SummerStage in New York’s Central Park, according to Vulture. It’s meant to be “a big thank-you to our fans,” said executive producer Casey Patterson.
“Lip Sync Battle” has taken TV and the Internet by storm this spring, every week producing viral videos of celebs locked in lip-synching showdowns. This special SummerStage performance will likely include four celebrities in two battles, mouthing two songs each. The celebs in question are currently undetermined, but hosts LL Cool J and Chrissy Teigen will be on hand.
“We’re very interested in seeing [the format] live and seeing what it would look like in a festival model,” Patteron explained. “This is a great way for us to test the waters for that. I think it’s really going to soar in this environment.”
For those “LSB” fans unable to get to New York, alas, the performance will not be streamed. However, the show is talking to “Good Morning America” about a special segment to broadcast that same day, so everyone across the country could get at least a sneak peek.
“Lip Sync Battle” is in preproduction for season 2. The remaining season 1 episodes begin airing July 9.
It’s about time someone pandered to the host of “Lip Sync Battle” with an LL Cool J song — and who better than The Queen? Queen Latifah took on Marlon Wayans in Spike’s May 28 battle. LL said he didn’t know Queen Latifah would be doing his song, “Rock the Bells,” but she did it, and she did it proud. Marlon wasn’t happy about it, but too bad.
As usual, there were two rounds of battle. In round one, Marlon got “Happy” with Pharrell Williams’ song, and the Queen went for a sexy, subtle version of “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It)” by En Vogue. In round two, Marlon got emotional with Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” while Queen Latifah turned it up with “Rock the Bells.” Was that enough to earn her the win? Probably. Marlon Wayans kept saying it was “cheating” but it was playing smart. That’s why she’s The Queen! Want more stuff like this? Like us on Facebook.

Maybe the “Lip Sync Battle” drama bar was just too high after Julianne Hough writhed to “I Just Had Sex” (in front of her brother!) and Stephen Merchant shoved a sock down his leather chaps to get extra “Dirrty.” We had high hopes for Salt-N-Pepa’s May 21 battle — and they were OK, but they did not push it far enough. They did not talk about sex, baby. It was relatively bland.
Cheryl “Salt” James started Round 1 with Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone.” Sandra “Pepa” Denton countered with Katy Perry’s “Firework”:
Too tame. Not nearly the crazy we’ve come to expect.
In Round 2, they both upped their games and brought in back-up dancers. Salt had a good run with “It’s Tricky” by RUN-D.M.C. but Pepa won with her very ’70s version of Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive.” This round was more successful, but still needed more spice.
Next week (May 28) is Queen Latifah vs. Marlon Wayans, so hopefully things get wild again. We’re here for the crazy, people!
Can you imagine watching your little sister bumping, grinding, writhing, and literally crawling on all fours alongside two hot shirtless guys while lip syncing to “I Just Had Sex”? Derek Hough did not have to imagine. The “Dancing With the Stars” pro watched his sister Julianne Hough, a “Dancing With the Stars” judge, do just that on the May 14 episode of “Lip Sync Battle.” It was glorious. She won, obviously, and she left her brother scarred for life, which is a bonus.
There were two rounds of battle, as usual, and Julianne owned both. She had backup from Meghan Trainor herself for “All About That Bass,” which competed against Derek’s “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. The second round could’ve been tough, since Derek upped his game with a wild Sia wig for an appropriately bizarre rendition of “Chandelier.” But it was all over once Jules hit the floor for The Lonely Island’s “Sex” song. When she won, Julianne said she’d put her new trophy up on the fireplace mantel to show it off.
Derek commented on his sister’s win in his TV Guide blog (which he’s keeping through DWTS Season 20):
Speaking of kicking butt, Julianne destroyed me on Lip Sync Battle! Our episode airs Thursday… and I can’t even. She sang the most inappropriate song. No brother should have to sit and watch that! It was so inappropriate and it was just so bad! She did great, but oh, my God! But here’s the thing: As much as I hated it, I had a lot of respect for her. I would never have the balls to do something like that — just something so inappropriate and be so confident about it. What I love about it is that she was like, ‘Hey, this is my sense of humor. I find this song funny and this show is not serious, so I’m gonna go and do it.’ As soon as she started singing, I was like, ‘I’m leaving!’ She played dirty!”
It’s true. Julianne is the more bold of the siblings. If you like what you see here, though, you can watch them together on their live summer tour. Maybe she’ll do an encore?
