  • Keanu Reeves & Molly Ringwald Made a Romantic Thriller Called ‘Siberia’

    Our ’80s dreams are complete.

“Siberia” just found a home with Saban Films, which acquired the movie’s North American rights at Cannes. The romantic crime thriller stars Keanu Reeves, with Molly Ringwald in a smaller role as his wife.

The romance part doesn’t seem to be between them, which is kind of a shame. Instead, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the romance is between Reeves’ American diamond trader and a Russian cafe owner played by Ana Ularu.

Reeves plays Lucas Hill, who sells blue diamonds of dubious origin to buyers in Russia. As the deal quickly begins to disintegrate, he falls into an obsessive relationship with a Russian cafe owner in a small Siberian town while colliding with the treacherous world of the diamond trade.

Saban Films’ Bill Bromiley praised the film while announcing the North American pick-up:

“‘Siberia’ is a fresh departure from your average love story, balancing the high-wire act of being a thriller with pacing that keeps you on your toes till the last frame. Everyone will love this.”

Molly Ringwald talked to The Playlist about her small part in the movie, and working with her fellow ’80s teen superstar:

“‘Siberia’ is a movie I shot with Keanu Reeves where I play his wife. I have a supporting role in that. I haven’t seen it yet, but I had a great time working with him. He’s a really nice guy. And, of course, I’ve been a big fan of his for a long time.”

There’s no set premiere date yet, in theaters or home release, but stay tuned.

  • First ‘John Wick 3’ Set Footage Sends Keanu Reeves on the Run in the Rain

John Wick is back in New York City, and this time he’s facing down tourists.

John Wick: Chapter 3” just started filming in the Big Apple, with cinematographer Dan Laustsen sharing photos from the first couple of days on set.

Visitors — or people who happen to live there who noticed “Holy crap, that’s a bloody Keanu Reeves shooting scenes outside” — also shared photos and footage from the area.

That gorgeous second shot sets the mood of John Wick in the rain, but it’s the fans’ footage that shows John on the run. Not that it’s a spoiler of any kind, since that’s the premise of “Chapter 3,” which appears to pick up directly from “Chapter 2.”

    Here’s the movie synopsis:

“John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is on the run for two reasons… he’s being hunted for a global $14 million dollar open contract on his life, and for breaking a central rule: taking a life on Continental Hotel grounds. The victim was a member of the High Table who ordered the open contract. John should have already been executed, except the Continental’s manager, Winston, has given him a one-hour grace period before he’s “Excommunicado” – membership revoked, banned from all services and cut off from other members. John uses the service industry to stay alive as he fights and kills his way out of New York City.”

    Such a cool guy.

“John Wick: Chapter 3” opens in theaters May 17th, 2019, just a couple of weeks after “Avengers 4.” Keanu is also confirmed for his third “Bill & Ted” movie, which comes out … whenever.

  • Excellent News: ‘Bill & Ted 3’ Is Officially Happening, Right Now

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” came out in 1989, and now Alex Winter (Bill) and Keanu Reeves (Ted) are on track for the third movie to possibly come out 30 years later.

There’s no set release date yet for “Bill & Ted Face the Music,” but during Cannes it was made official that a third movie is now “firmly in the works.” That’s how The Hollywood Reporter put it, adding that the film is currently in pre-production.

We last saw Bill & Ted in 1991 for the sequel “Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey.” Stars Reeves and Winter have been talking about a third movie for a long time, and recently reunited for some amazing photos and more movie talk.

Here’s more on what the film will be about, as written by original creators Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, with Dean Parisot as director:

“‘Bill & Ted Face the Music’ will see the duo long past their days as time-traveling teenagers and now weighed down by middle age and the responsibilities of family. They’ve written thousands of tunes, but they have yet to write a good one, much less the greatest song ever written. With the fabric of time and space tearing around them, a visitor from the future warns our heroes that only their song can save life as we know it. Out of luck and fresh out of inspiration, Bill and Ted set out on a time travel adventure to seek the song that will set their world right and bring harmony in the universe as we know it. Together with the aid of their daughters, a new crop of historical figures, and some sympathetic music legends, they find much, much more than just a song.”

THR shared a statement from Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter:

“We couldn’t be more excited to get the whole band back together again. Chris and Ed wrote an amazing script, and with Dean at the helm we’ve got a dream team!”

Ed Solomon recently previewed the script’s theme to Entertainment Weekly: “I think it’s kind of like ‘A Christmas Carol’ with Bill and Ted. Looking at their lives, and really kind of rediscovering what they’re about.”

Here’s Keanu, last year, talking about the idea for “Bill & Ted 3”:

  • ‘John Wick: Chapter 3’ Reveals Plot Synopsis (and Poster, But Not Really)

He’s thinking he’s back — or will be soon, anyway.

One of the many upcoming films with Just Shut Up And Take Our Money status is “John Wick: Chapter 3.” Lionsgate promoted the movie as part of its CinemaCon lineup, sharing a basic plot synopsis, and a promotional poster.

The poster is only barely worth mentioning, since it’s simply the title of the movie and not up to the standard of what we’re sure they’re going to provide before the movie comes out.

But it exists. So here it is, along with the plot synopsis, both via Collider:

“John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is on the run for two reasons… he’s being hunted for a global $14 million dollar open contract on his life, and for breaking a central rule: taking a life on Continental Hotel grounds. The victim was a member of the High Table who ordered the open contract. John should have already been executed, except the Continental’s manager, Winston, has given him a one-hour grace period before he’s ‘Excommunicado’ – membership revoked, banned from all services and cut off from other members. John uses the service industry to stay alive as he fights and kills his way out of New York City.”

The “John Wick” poster game is too strong to consider that a real poster. It’s just a placeholder for CinemaCon.

We’re hoping for something more like this by the time the film opens next year:

It does sound like the story picks up directly from “Chapter 2,” which makes sense and continues the heightened sense of urgency.

Back in June 2017, director Chad Stahelski talked to the Independent about what elements he hopes to explore in “Chapter 3”:

“We are going to put in something about the High Table, how that all works. We’re going to put in something about where John comes from, and where he wants to go. I don’t want to say too much more, but it will be a nice completion to Mr. Wick’s journey.”

Completion. Don’t forget that there’s also a John Wick spinoff series coming to Starz, called “The Continental.”

“Chapter 3” ends the film trilogy on May 17, 2019.

  • Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter ‘Bill & Ted’ Reunion Photos Give Us Life

EWWe didn’t realize how much we needed these most excellent photos of Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter as older (but still totally rad) Bill & Ted.

The two actors, who played the lovable stoner time travelers in “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” and the 1991 sequel, reunited for an awesome photo shoot for EW‘s Reunion Issue. (Love those Napoleon and Joan of Arc T-shirts.)

They also talked about the long-in-the-works third film, “Bill & Ted Face the Music,” which, is thisclose to finally finding a financier after 11 years of development hell. The film would find now 50-something Bill and Ted married with kids (no, not to each other!) and revisiting their past.

At the end of the first film, Rufus (George Carlin) told them they would write music that would turn the world into a utopia. And that never happened.

“You’re told you’re gonna save the world,” original “Bill & Ted” writer Chris Matheson tells EW. “And now you’re 50 and you haven’t done it.”

According to Reeves, Bill and Ted are given a mandate to step up and fulfill that promise: “Someone comes from the future and says: ‘Not only do you have to save the world, you have to save everything…””

“I think it’s kind of like ‘A Christmas Carol‘ with Bill and Ted,” teases co-creater Ed Solomon. “Looking at their lives, and really kind of rediscovering what they’re about.”

Solomon recently revealed the most heinous truth that many execs would rather fund a reboot than a sequel. To which we cry, “Bogus!”

There’s already a director (Dean Parisot of “Galaxy Quest” fame) and a producer (Steven Soderbergh, no less) ready to go. And William Sadler is game to return as Death. Now they just need the money! C’mon, someone with cash please make this movie happen!

  • Super Bowl Ad: Keanu Reeves Howls, Rides, & Teaches You How to Make a Website

Whoa. That John Wick can be so adorkable.

Keanu Reeves has joined the long list of celebrities appearing in Super Bowl 2018 commercials. He’ll be fronting the website building/hosting company Squarespace. The company posted a few videos with Keanu, including a look at the “Make It Happen” ad that will air on Sunday, Feb. 4.

In one ad, Keanu — an avid motorcycle rider — considers whether he should create a motorcycle website. In “Make It Happen,” he does some stunts while listening to “Adventures in Success” by Will Powers. At the end of that commercial, he rides off into the sky like “Grease” or “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.”

Apparently Keanu did make it happen for his own website, promoting his company Arch Motorcycles.

In another longer video, called “Make It With Keanu Reeves,” Keanu goes into the desert to show how he made his website. He also howls like a wolf and just gets super serious and super goofy in equal measure.

Watch all of the videos: Yes. But how can building a website help us achieve the dream of hanging out with Keanu in the desert? Answer this question, please!

The Super Bowl, with sooooo many crazy ads, airs Sunday, Feb. 4 on NBC. Keanu’s “John Wick: Chapter 3” comes out next year.

  • ‘Bill & Ted’ 3 Sounds Awesome, But Would a Reboot Make More Money?

Bill & TedThere’s a whole new “Bill & Ted” movie ready to go. The script is written and both Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are in. So what’s the problem?

Screenwriter Ed Solomon tells Digital Spy it’s not about lining up talent, “We have been working for almost 10 years to get this thing made: Alex Winter, Keanu Reeves, and [screenwriting partner] Chris Matheson. We have a director — Dean Parisot, who did ‘Galaxy Quest,’ Steven Soderbergh is one of our producers. We have a wonderful assembly of people.”

The third film, called “Bill & Ted Face the Music” would have a now middle-aged Bill & Ted meeting their younger (digital) selves in what sounds like a truly mind-blowing scene. But Solomon says that he’s having issues raising money because “what we get all the time –- all the time –- is people wanting to reboot it.”

He says he constantly hears, “‘Let’s do ‘Bill & Ted with new teenagers,’ but what we wanna do is the story of Bill and Ted as middle-aged men, and tell what we think could be a really funny, and actually really moving, story about their lives and where they are now, their families, their kids…”

Sure, the first two movies didn’t make much money, but they are massive cult films. Solomon says, “I’m certain that whoever invests in this could make their money back, and hopefully a lot more. It’s never gonna be a movie that me and Chris Matheson get rich on. I’ve never made much money off of Bill & Ted. We never get profits from it, our salaries were very small from it, but it’s the one movie in my life that… if I’d never done anything but Bill & Ted, I would’ve been really happy.”

We have to agree when he says, “If the only thing we put into the world ever was this notion of ‘be excellent to each other’, we could look each other in the eye and feel like we did something right.”

Do we need a GoFundMe or a Kickstarter to make this happen? C’mon!

  • Woah: Kylo Ren & Keanu Reeves ‘Face Swap’ Has Fans Demanding Team-Up

BRITAIN-CINEMA-STAR WARSKeanu Reeves + Adam Driver = The blockbuster we’re looking for.

“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” just opened last week, and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) is getting a lot of attention. Someone sort of face-swapped Kylo with Keanu to show they’re basically the same guy — Keanu is just an older (although we know he’s immortal) version.

Deja vu. It’s a glitch in the Matrix. Run!

Seriously, though, it doesn’t appear to be a traditional face-swap; instead it’s more of a partial swap — definitely the eyes (Keanu on the left), but the rest seems to be mostly Photoshop.

'John Wick: Chapter 2' Japan PremiereStill, the resemblance between Adam Driver, 34, and Keanu Reeves, 53, is real, and it left fans feeling a disturbance in The Force:

If only the great Alan Rickman were still with us to add Snape to this equation as Keanu and Adam/Kylo’s older brother:You know what needs to happen? Someone needs to cast Mark Hamill and Sebastian Stan in a father/son movie, alongside Keanu Reeves and Adam Driver. Make it so!

  • 9 Things You Never Knew About ‘Bram Stoker’s Dracula’

We take it for granted now, but it must have seemed positively ludicrous at the time for Francis Ford Coppola — a man who had made a name for himself with “The Godfather,” “Apocalypse Now,” and moody thrillers like “The Conversation” — to tackle something like “Bram Stoker’s Dracula.”

A faithful and old fashioned retelling of the classic novel, it was Coppola at his most wildly unhinged and experimental, but also at his most populist and entertaining. It’s a brilliant, frequently breathtaking film that borders on masterpiece status, and on its 25th anniversary, worthy of appreciation and discussion.

Here are nine things you might not know about the blood-soaked favorite.

    1. It Was Winona Ryder’s Idea
The script, by James V. Hart (who would go on to write “Contact” and, um, “Muppet Treasure Island“) was brought to the attention of Coppola by Winona Ryder, who met with the director to clear the air after her eleventh hour abandonment of “The Godfather, Part III.” (That debacle, which forced a production delay and led a bewildered Coppola to substitute his awkward and unprepared daughter for the Ryder role, is a “Things You Didn’t Know” unto itself.)

Coppola was pondering an adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s “On the Road,” when Ryder nudged him towards this material. Thankfully, Coppola bit.

    2. Coppola Wanted It to Be Super Sexy
The filmmaker told The New York Times, shortly before the movie’s official release, that he wanted the film to resemble “an erotic dream.” Given the movie’s gauzy visuals, he definitely succeeded.

    3. It Was Something of a Redemptive Moment for Coppola
It’s hard to remember what a crucial time “Dracula” was for Coppola; he was following a string of critical and commercial duds that ranged from the epic misfire “One from the Heart,” to more modest failures like the severely under-appreciated “Tucker: The Man and His Dream.”

His company, American Zoetrope, once a hotbed for young creative talent wanting to push the limits of the status quo, was blinking on the edge of bankruptcy. “The Godfather, Part III” had made money, but paled in comparison to the earlier installments. “Dracula” was a chance to make a movie for a big studio on time and on budget, and that’s what he did.

Coppola was “particularly concerned to prove that he could be a good citizen in terms of his responsibility report card,” said Mark Canton, chairman of Columbia Pictures, at the time. Ways of mitigating the possibility for cost overruns was shooting on soundstages at Sony Studios (where adjacent productions were confused about the literal rivers of blood flowing through the lot) and giving Canton weekly progress reports assuring him that all was well.

    4. Keanu Was Hired Because Hollywood
If you’ve ever wondered why poor Keanu Reeves, so pretty and so young, can be seen struggling through a British accent in “Dracula,” well, it’s because they needed a big star and pretty much everybody else was busy. Coppola admitted trying to get a “matinee idol” for the role because “it isn’t such a great part.” Clearly, everybody else was busy.

    5. The Costumes Were Literally Everything
More money was spent on the wonderfully offbeat costumes in “Dracula” (by designer Eiko Ishioka) than on the actual sets. (The costumes had their own lavish coffee table book called “Coppola and Eiko on Bram Stoker’s Dracula.”)

Some of them were inspired by artists like Gustav Klimt, with Coppola insisting that the costumes were the “jewels” of the production. And, like jewels, they needed to be properly displayed, draped over handsome young actors. When a new deluxe edition Blu-ray for the film was issued, one of the documentaries was entitled, “The Costumes Are the Sets.”

    6. Visual Effects Were Purposefully Achieved the Old Fashioned Way
While Coppola might have been a more responsible filmmaker on “Dracula,” that doesn’t necessarily mean he was done with his quirks. Coppola fired noted production designer Dante Ferretti six weeks before production began and hired a young “nobody” (in the words of Entertainment Weekly).

He also insisted on that almost all the visual effects for the film be achieved using antique methods. (Coppola’s son, Roman — who would go on to become an influential director in his own right — worked on many of the effects.) A big talking point when the film was released was that the effects could have been accomplished by the production of the 1931 Bela LugosiDracula.”

    7. Coppola Made an Animated Version of the Movie Beforehand
To give his collaborators an idea for what he was going for, Coppola assembled an animated version of the film comprised of illustrated storyboard, pieces of inspiration (like moments from the French version of “Beauty and the Beast“), and other designs.

Edited together, Coppola felt he could give an aesthetic and tactile glimpse into what he was going for with his throwback-y feature. (Some of this could be seen in various home video releases for the film, beginning with a loaded Criterion Collection laserdisc.)

    8. Nobody Thought the Movie Was Going to Be a Hit
Bad press besieged “Bram Stoker’s Dracula,” like many of Coppola’s films. Much had been made about Ryder and Gary Oldman‘s shared animosity, while other reports had test audiences throwing up from the movie’s graphic content (untrue).

Further rumors had the movie being reshot just weeks before it was scheduled for release, although the castle that reporters saw rising into the sky on the Sony Studios lot was for an Arnold Schwarzenegger film that ended up never happening (Paul Verhoeven‘s incredible-sounding “Crusade”). In fact, there was even an insider-y nickname for the film: “Bonfire of the Vampires,” named after “Bonfire of the Vanities,” Brian De Palma‘s famously unpopular adaptation of Tom Wolfe’s novel.

Instead, “Dracula” ended up being a huge hit, opening at #1 and ending up as the fifteenth most profitable film of that year, grossing more than $82 million in America.

    9. There Was a Bunch of Awesome Merchandise
“Bram Stoker’s Dracula” was released during a time when kick-ass merch could still be produced for R-rated movies. Among the very awesome tie-in materials was a comic book written by the legendary Roy Thomas (a brilliant editor and Stan Lee’s successor at Marvel) and illustrated by future “Hellboy” creator Mike Mignola.

Fans could also get their hands on a fairly challenging (but poorly received) videogame — released for Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Game Boy, Master System, Genesis, Sega CD, and Game Gear. There was also a pinball game, lifelike replicas of the movie’s iconic weaponry, and, of course, the truly unforgettable coffin-shaped collectible VHS release (above).

  • Keanu Reeves & Winona Ryder Are ‘Unpleasant’ Wedding Guests in First Look at Their Romantic Comedy

It’s still “whoa”-worthy that Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder are making a rom-com.

“Destination Wedding” reunites the ’80s-’90s superstars who previously costarred in “Bram Stoker’s Dracula,” “A Scanner Darkly,” and “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee.” Their careers are resurging at the same time, thanks to “Stranger Things” for her, and “John Wick” for him.

They are not the kind of stars you might expect to see in a wedding-set romantic comedy, but Entertainment Weekly said they’ll star in “Destination Wedding” as “two miserable and unpleasant wedding guests, both pariahs at this affair, who develop a mutual affection despite themselves.”

Here’s the first photo from the movie:_J4A9687.CR2They don’t seem so miserable there.

According to EW, filming wrapped on “Destination Wedding” earlier in the summer, and a release date has yet to be announced. (This “Destination Wedding” movie is not to be confused with this other 2017 “Destination Wedding.”)

Meanwhile, HBO just had a very welcome Keanu double feature of “Constantine” and “John Wick: Chapter 2,” which fans can keep watching On Demand. “John Wick 3” just got itself a release date, so you can look forward to more Keanu badassery then. Winona’s Joyce Byers is still worrying herself silly on Netflix, but at least in “Stranger Things” Season 2 she also gets to smile a bit with a new love interest. “Stranger Things 3” is expected next year.
