‘Replicas’ Trailer Promises Keanu Reeves’ Delayed Sci-Fi Thriller Is ‘Coming Soon’

Keanu Reeves is in everything lately — but good luck finding anything in theaters. When he’s not John Wick, he’s The Rock of limited releases.

(Apologies to both for that comparison, but now that it’s out there … maybe make an action movie together?)

Replicas” just dropped an “official teaser trailer” for a sci-fi thriller starring Keanu, Thomas MiddleditchAlice Eve, and John Ortiz.

A longer trailer was first released about a year ago, after Entertainment Studios picked up the film during the 2017 Toronto Film Festival. It’s not clear what happened in the interim, and “Replicas” still doesn’t have an official release date beyond “Coming Soon.” It’s not even clear if it is coming soon to theaters or VOD.

Here is the new teaser from Entertainment Studios:

And here’s the full trailer from October 2017:

The first trailer came with this synopsis:

“In this sci-fi thriller, neuroscientist William Foster (Keanu Reeves) is on the verge of successfully transferring human consciousness into a computer when his family is tragically killed in a car crash. Desperate to resurrect them, William recruits fellow scientist Ed Whittle (Thomas Middleditch) to help him secretly clone their bodies and create replicas. But he soon faces a ‘Sophie’s choice’ when it turns out that they can only bring three of the four family members back to life.”

Talk About a ‘Destination Wedding’: Keanu Reeves Thrills Newlyweds With Excellent Photo

    Destination Wedding
    Regatta

    Woah.

A couple’s wedding day is memorable on its own, but two newlyweds also got the bonus of Ted/Neo/Constantine/John Wick as a semi-guest.

It seems to have happened naturally, but it’s also a nice tie-in for Keanu Reeves‘ new movie “Destination Wedding.”

Leslie Walker and Jarrod Camara got married at the Dream Inn last weekend in Santa Cruz, and apparently Keanu just happened to be at the hotel bar. One of the groomsmen pointed it out, and the couple got a photo with the star.

Jarrod’s mom Darlette shared a photo, and her excitement, with local ABC7 News:

“To have him there was just the icing on the cake so to speak! I was just like, ‘I can’t believe it’s Keanu Reeves, right there. He was just so sweet, the nicest person. We walked in, he was in his motorcycle gear having a drink and coffee or whatever and we interrupted him and he was so gracious.’”

Has anyone ever heard a bad word about Keanu Reeves? It was his birthday on September 2, and as far as we know he’s been the most excellent dude in Hollywood for all 54 years. It’s dangerous to have Keanu at a wedding, though — you might be tempted to run off and marry him instead. (Sigh. If only…)

Keanu and Winona Ryder are currently co-starring as grumpy wedding guests in “Destination Wedding,” which is playing wherever you can find it. Keanu has also been busy filming “John Wick 3,” which hits theaters next May.

Winona Ryder Thinks She and Keanu Reeves Really Got Married Making ‘Dracula’

    Destination Wedding
    Regatta

Two megastars make a movie together and accidentally get married for real during a scene filmed on Valentine’s Day.

How is that not already its own rom-com, starring the two people in question — Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves?

Winona and Keanu were love interests in “Dracula” in 1992. They are now reuniting for the romantic comedy “Destination Wedding,” which we plan to see the minute it opens August 31.

During promotion for “Destination Wedding,” the two stars — no strangers to the word “kooky” — looked back on their “Dracula” time, with Winona musing that they might actually BE married already.

Here’s their convo with Entertainment Weekly:

Winona Ryder: “We actually got married in ‘Dracula.’ No, I swear to god I think we’re married in real life. In that scene, Francis [Ford Coppola] used a real Romanian priest. We shot the master and he did the whole thing. So I think we’re married.”

Keanu Reeves: “It’s lovely to see you again.”

Winona reminded him that they went through the whole ceremony and said “I do.”

    Keanu: “We said yes?”

Winona: “Don’t you remember that? It was on Valentine’s Day.”

Keanu: “Oh my gosh, we’re married.”

Technically they are probably aren’t married, even by whatever standards they had at the time in Romania. It’s just a fun anecdote. But fans are 100 percent behind this ’90s union … except for the ones who are already fake married to Keanu or Winona themselves:

Winona and Keanu — Weanu? Kinona? They deserve a sickeningly cute nickname, even if they aren’t dating/married in real life — also worked together in 2006’s “A Scanner Darkly” and 2009’s “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee.”

“Destination Wedding” follows two grumpy, finicky strangers invited to a mutual friends’ wedding. RSVP for tickets.

  • New ‘John Wick 3’ Photo Shows Return of Two ‘Old Friends’

New ‘John Wick 3’ Photo Shows Return of Two ‘Old Friends’

    John Wick 2
    Lionsgate Films

John Wick isn’t the only one thinkin’ he’s back.

Keanu Reeves and company are now filming “John Wick: Chapter 3,” which has the official title “John Wick 3: Parabellum.” As Reeves has already explained, the title is part of a longer quote, and roughly translates to “Prepare for war.”

The official “John Wick” account just shared a photo of two familiar faces who will part of the coming war. On the left is underground crime lord The Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne), with Continental Hotel manager Winston (Ian McShane) on the right.

It’s going to be fun to see these two powerhouses together in “John Wick 3”:

The third “John Wick” movie will bring back several “old friends” — including Lance Reddick as Continental concierge Charon.

New faces are also joining the team, including Halle Berry, Anjelica Huston, and Asia Kate Dillon.

Keanu Reeves has been spotted filming in New York City, doing a lot of his own stunts, including some pretty cool looking horse stunts.

    Here’s the film synopsis:

“John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is on the run for two reasons… he’s being hunted for a global $14 million dollar open contract on his life, and for breaking a central rule: taking a life on Continental Hotel grounds. The victim was a member of the High Table who ordered the open contract. John should have already been executed, except the Continental’s manager, Winston, has given him a one-hour grace period before he’s ‘Excommunicado’ – membership revoked, banned from all services and cut off from other members. John uses the service industry to stay alive as he fights and kills his way out of New York City.”

“John Wick 3: Parabellum” is scheduled to open in theaters May 17th, 2019.

No dogs allowed? Your favorite sharp-dressed assassin apparently has a new animal sidekick in “John Wick 3,” called “John Wick: Parabellum.”

The third “John Wick” movie has been filming in the streets of New York City, meaning fans have been taking lots of photos and videos of Keanu Reeves in action. In May, we got a good look at John Wick on the run in the rain.

Now fans have been snapping shots of Keanu’s JW riding a horse through NYC at night — *while also shooting a gun.* Because of course. It’s time to take it to the next level of the video game.

Based on the July 15 Hollywood Pipeline video caption, “The action sequence was being filmed under elevated train tracks in Brooklyn in the early hours of Sunday morning.”

At the start of the BACKGRID TV video below, you can see JW shoot a gun at a foe on a motorcycle. Classic Old West justice on the streets of the Big Apple.

There are clearly some John Wick stunt doubles around Keanu Reeves in a few shots, so he didn’t do all of this alone. Plus, he’s attached by wires in some takes. Still awesome.

  • Bogus! Keanu Reeves Says ‘Bill and Ted’ Sequel Not a Sure Thing

Bogus! Keanu Reeves Says ‘Bill and Ted’ Sequel Not a Sure Thing

    Orion Pictures

Last we heard, the third “Bill &Ted” film was finally happening. But now Keanu Reeves says it’s still up in the air.

While out promoting his new action film “Siberia,” Reeves told Yahoo Entertainment,  “I don’t know if it’s a reality.”

That’s a lot more negative than he sounded in a new interview with Moviefone, when he said, “I hope it happens. We’ve been trying to get it made for seven years. But we’re closer…”

When talking to Yahoo, he said the sequel “still has its challenges… part of it is show business stuff — financing, rights, deals. Nothing creatively,” he says.

Before we all start sending Keanu personal checks, it sounds like more is lacking than financing, which was the reason cited in the past as the main obstacle. But if (and apparently it’s a big if) all those problems are sorted out, the rest should be a piece of cake.

“I really love the characters, and I think we have a good story to tell,” says Reeves.  He’s definitely given a lot of thought to how to play an older Ted. “It’ll be interesting to see what that’s like. There’d be a lot about him that would be the same, I’m sure; his kind of optimistic naïveté in the face of the darkness will still be there. He has a child now, so I’m sure he’s matured.”

As Reeves told Moviefone, “It’s not some kind of forced concoction or a money-grab. There’s a great story about what’s going on with them now. It’s funny, it’s moving, I hope we get a chance to make it.”

Please, please, please, let his happen.

  • Keanu Reeves Talk ‘Siberia,’ ‘John Wick 3,’ and ‘Bill and Ted’s’ (Hopeful) Return

    Saban Films

Keanu Reeves is one of the most compellingly watchable actors ever. There’s just something about him that draws you in; he can often be positively hypnotizing. Whether he’s maneuvering the matrix, seeking bloody vengeance for the murder of his beloved puppy, or anchoring a more dramatic role, is one of the finest — and most underrated — actors working today.

His newest film, “Siberia,” is the type of movie they rarely make these days; a romantic thriller that is unabashedly adult. Reeves plays an underworld diamond dealer who gets in over his head while searching for some elusive blue diamonds. While on this quest, he falls in love with a café owner (Ana Ularu in what should be a star-making turn) and, like a dog caught in barbed wire, tears himself apart while trying to break free.

It’s a haunting, elegant film, with an uncomfortably ingenious screenplay by the great Scott B. Smith (who wrote “A Simple Plan” and “The Ruins”) and direction by Matthew Ross that mixes subtle stylization with the naturalistically arctic. (Ross told me that, “Every wonderful story you’ve heard about Keanu is 100% based on truth, I can confirm that. He’s a wonderful partner and a wonderful actor.”) If you want a healing balm from all the summer blockbusters, “Siberia” is your antidote.

We were lucky enough to speak to Reeves about how the film came together, what the appeal was for him, and pried for updates on “John Wick 3,” the next “Bill & Ted,” and what character he’d like to have portrayed one more time.

    Saban Films

Moviefone: How did ‘Siberia’ come together?

Reeves: The idea came from a producing partner of mine named Stephen Hamel. He found the writer Scott B. Smith. And then they worked on a script for a year, a year-and-a-half. And we got the script to a place where we were going out to filmmakers. I had a meeting with Matthew Ross because I really liked his film “Frank & Lola.” We met in New York, he asked what I had going on, I talked to him about a couple of projects. He said, “Send me ‘Siberia.’” So I sent him “Siberia.” And he liked it and we had a big meeting. I really liked his film and we went off and we made a picture.

Was this ever something you considered directing yourself?

For “Siberia?” No. This one, I think just because of the dramatic and romantic nature of it, I needed a director for that.

There aren’t a lot of movies that are made like this, with a kind of romantic thriller vibe. Was it hard to get people on board?

Yeah, from the financial side of it … Well, you never have enough money and you never have enough time. That’s true of every film that’s ever been made. And I would say that it had challenges when it came to financing but we were able to find enough interested people in it to have enough to make the picture.

As an actor what drew you to the story?

Well, speaking to what you were saying, it was kind of a grown-up movie. And what I mean by that is its tone and its ambition. I liked the thriller aspect of it. I liked the romance. I liked that my character, Lucas Hill, is trapped by his own life. He’s trying to hold it together but it’s falling apart and it’s out of his control. And then something else happens – he meets someone and falls in love. He’s a married man but he has this affair and he meets, well, it’s a great term, but his soul mate, somebody he connects with. And I liked that tragedy of it, in a Shakespearean, “Romeo & Juliet” way, that they’re both of different worlds. These worlds are impacting each other. Her family is saying, “get away” and my life is not allowing me to stay with her. So I find it’s a romantic tragedy.

Can you talk about working with Scott? He’s an amazing novelist and doesn’t write that much. So I imagine getting him for something like this was difficult but rewarding.

Yeah, it was really the work of Stephen Hamel. He reached out to Scott and we met. The way that the script is and that humor that’s laced through it, the tension in it, and there’s a lot of dialogue and people are communicating with each other, but I like that everyone is at odds except for the lovers. And Scott I think just really liked the premise. He was a great collaborator and it was a great experience to come up with that script.

    Lionsgate

You’re in New York shooting “John Wick 3,” right?

    I am.

    How is that going?

We have a great cast. We have a lot of action! We have a lot of ambition! We have a lot of new characters. It’s a very intense film shoot for me and physically demanding. But I love the character and I love that he’s fighting for his life. If you’re a fan of the films, we’re opening up the world, we’re learning new things, we’re meeting new people. And there’s some very fun sequences.

    Orion Pictures

And it seems like you’re finally doing “Bill & Ted Face the Music.” How excited are you and what can we expect?

Yeah, I mean I hope it happens. We’ve been trying to get it made for seven years. But we’re closer. I love the character and the writers, Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson, wrote a great script. So there’s a reason to do it. It’s not some kind of forced concoction or a money-grab. There’s a great story about what’s going on with them now. It’s funny, it’s moving, I hope we get a chance to make it.

Steven Soderbergh is listed as an executive producer on the new “Bill & Ted.” Has he helped move it along at all?

I haven’t really been a producer on this endeavor. I know he got involved. There are people who are friends of his. I don’t know to what extent. But thank you, thank you Steven, for all that you are doing!

You’re doing sequels to some of your most popular movies now. Are there any other characters or films you’d like to revisit?

I always wish I’d had a chance to make another “Constantine.” I really like that film. I tried to talk to them about it. But there were so many producers and rights issues and nobody really grabbed the bull by the horns. I guess it didn’t make enough money.

Siberia” is in theaters and on VOD this Friday.

  • Keanu Reeves Confirms ‘John Wick 3’s Official Title

    John Wick
    Summit Entertainment

War is coming to the world of “John Wick.”

Star Keanu Reeves confirmed the title of the third movie in his assassin franchise, telling ComingSoon.net that it would be called “John Wick 3: Parabellum.”

That’s been the project’s working title, but what does it mean?

“Prepare for war,” Reeves explained.  “It’s part of that famous sentence, ‘Si vis pacem, para bellum,’ which translates as, ‘If you want peace, prepare for war.’”

That war is brewing is no surprise given how “John Wick: Chapter Two ended.” A host of assassins will be coming after him now that there’s a bounty on his head for killing a member of The High Table at the Hotel Continental.

The official synopsis reads: John should have already been executed, except the Continental’s manager, Winston, has given him a one-hour grace period before he’s ‘Excommunicado’ – membership revoked, banned from all services and cut off from other members. John uses the service industry to stay alive as he fights and kills his way out of New York City.

“John Wick 3: Parabellum” opens in theaters May 17, 2019.

  • Keanu Reeves Faces Off With Russian Mobsters In ‘Siberia’ Trailer

It’s not the next “John Wick” film, but we’ll take Keanu Reeves as a diamond dealer who finds himself in a tough spot with some Russian mobsters in the first trailer for “Siberia.” (Will he kill them all? Chances are high.)

Early reports of the thriller played up the fact that ’80s “It Girl” Molly Ringwald is in the film, but there’s no trace of her in the trailer. (Unless we blinked.) Instead, Reeves is getting cozy with an actress who was born in the ’80s: Ana Ularu.

Also, there are guns. Lots of guns.

The movie opens in theaters, On Demand, and Digital HD on July 13.

The film was written by Scott B. Smith, who also wrote the screenplay for underrated ’90s crime drama “A Simple Plan” and cult horror film “The Ruins.” Matthew Ross (“Frank and Lola”) directed.

  • ‘John Wick 3’ Motion Poster Says He’ll ‘Be Seeing You’ in One Year

You have a date with Mr. Wick one year from today. Mark your calendars accordingly, and spend the next year picking just the right outfit to match his perfect style.

John Wick: Chapter 3” only recently started filming for its opening on May 17, 2019.

On May 17, 2018, the official account marked the one-year countdown with this cool motion poster:

Loving the JW3 mood so far, after those set photos and videos showed Keanu Reeves fighting his way through the Big Apple at night in the rain.

“John Wick 3” picks up right after the second film. Here’s the synopsis:

“John Wick is on the run for two reasons… he’s being hunted for a global $14 million dollar open contract on his life, and for breaking a central rule: taking a life on Continental Hotel grounds. The victim was a member of the High Table who ordered the open contract. John should have already been executed, except the Continental’s manager, Winston, has given him a one-hour grace period before he’s “Excommunicado” – membership revoked, banned from all services and cut off from other members. John uses the service industry to stay alive as he fights and kills his way out of New York City.”

You know when it opens in theaters. Don’t disappoint him.
