  • Best of Late Night TV: Celebrity Mean Tweets and Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Barbershop Quartet

If you’re like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of what happened last night on late night.

Mean Tweets Week is over on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” and these are the best of the best from stars like Jeff Bridges, Kristen Bell, Benedict Cumberbatch and Emily Blunt. Our favorite of the batch? “Kristen Bell seems like such a bitch, her vagina is probably an Alcatraz for penis.” Yikes.

Chances are you already saw the video of Seth Meyers made her act out what would happen had she actually met Saint Mimi, and it was a hot mess. Not like “Glitter” hot mess, but close.

Finally, the best part of last night on late night? The Rag Time Gals are back! This time singing a barbershop quartet version of “Bitch Better Have My Money” –– with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a surprise guest. Um, amazing. No words. Just amazing.

  • Oliver Stone’s ‘Snowden’ Teaser Leaks No Footage of A-List Cast

For a movie about a guy (in)famous for leaking classified information, “Snowden” is playing its own cards close to the vest. For now. Oliver Stone, who lives for this kind of story, directed the political bio thriller with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as former CIA employee Edward Snowden. The movie comes out on Christmas, which means it’s a capital “B” Big Deal. Also a big deal: the rest of the A-list cast, which includes Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans, Joely Richardson and even — a bit randomly — Nicolas Cage.

The first teaser trailer doesn’t focus on the cast. It doesn’t show them at all. It only lists their names at the end, after a series of facts are shown about the real Edward Snowden (who is also not shown at all). Here’s what we see, amid close-up shots of an American flag, as pensive piano music plays:

    – Army recruit at 20
    – Joined CIA at 22
    – NSA contractor at 26
    – By age 29 the most wanted man in the world

Then we see the upside-down flag, which is meant to be a sign of distress, and also used in the “House of Cards” logo. Check it out:

The December 25 release date suggests Oscar ambitions, but it’s hard to know what to think without any footage. That’s why they call it a teaser!

  • ‘Sandman’ Update: Joseph Gordon-Levitt Says Progress Is Slow But ‘Really Good’

Premiere Of Magnolia Pictures' "White Bird In A Blizzard" - ArrivalsThere hasn’t been too much buzz about Joseph Gordon-Levitt‘s upcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman‘s “The Sandman” comics since the project was first announced way back in December 2013. But while it may seem like behind-the-scenes progress has stalled, Gordon-Levitt has revealed that that’s not the case at all.

In an interview with MTV News, the producer (and possible star and director) of the hotly-anticipated flick said that work on the project has been continuing all this time, and while it’s been a long process, it’s been a fruitful one, too. “It’s slow but steady,” Gordon-Levitt explained to MTV News. He continued:

“It’s a really complicated adaptation because those comics, they’re brilliant. But they’re not written as a whole. It’s not like ‘Watchmen,’ which is a graphic novel that has a beginning, middle, and end. ‘Sandman’ was written over the course of whatever — I forget exactly, six or seven years. One at a time. One little 20-page issue at a time. And to try to take that and make it into something that’s a feature film — a movie that has a beginning, middle, and end — is complicated.”

Those complications sound similar to issues that filmmakers have had with adapting the works of Stephen King (we can’t even count all the starts and stops that have befallen planned adaptations of “The Dark Tower,” and now “It”), but Gordon-Levitt’s confidence in his adaptation — and creative approach to the subject matter — certainly bodes well for its future. The team behind “Sandman” (which includes Gordon-Levitt, “The Dark Knight” scribe David S. Goyer, studio Warner Bros., and oversight from Gaiman) wants to set the film apart from other comic/graphic novel adaptations that came before it, and doesn’t plan to feature ubiquitous action sequences that audiences have come to expect from such flicks. (Translation? The main character, Morpheus, won’t punch anybody.) That ambition poses its own challenges, according to the star, though they’re fun ones to take on.

“It’s going to be like a grand spectacular action film, but that relies on none of those same old ordinary cliches,” Gordon-Levitt explained to MTV. “So, that’s why it’s taking a lot time to write, but it’s going to be really good.”

We’ll be eagerly awaiting more updates.

  • This New ‘The Walk’ Trailer Will Make You Dizzy

the walk, joseph gordon-levittA new trailer for Robert Zemeckis‘s ambitious film “The Walk” will leave you breathless — and dizzy, and sweating, depending on how much you’re afraid of heights.

The flick tells the jaw-dropping true story of French stunt artist Philippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), who’s always looking for a new place to string his high-wire and perform thrilling walks across the air. His latest target is the most audacious yet: A walk between the new Twin Towers at New York City’s World Trade Center.

While his friends think he’s insane (one played by “Parks and Rec” alum Ben Schwartz — yes, Jean-Ralphio — asks if they’re supposed to watch him die), he nevertheless gains a group of supporters to help him pull off this definition-of-death-defying (not to mention illegal) act. All of this is illustrated with the type of mind-bending visual effects you’d expect from a big-budget superhero flick; instead, for this drama, Zemeckis and co. aim to give the audience a bird’s-eye view of every inch of space between Petit and the ground, showing just how far he has to fall should he stumble during his stunt.

“People ask me, ‘Why do you risk death?’ For me, this is life,” Petit explains.

    Consider us hooked.

“The Walk” is due in theaters on October 2.

  • Joseph Gordon-Levitt to Produce, Star in ‘Fraggle Rock’ Movie

2014 Creative Arts Emmys - Press RooJoseph Gordon-Levitt is headed to The Trash Heap!

According to <a href=Variety, Joseph G-L has jumped on board the live action “Fraggle Rock” adaptation. He’ll both star in and produce the feature film, which is based around Jim Henson’s wonderfully quirky children’s show from the 1980s.

“The first screen personas I ever loved were Henson creations, first on ‘Sesame Street,’ and then on ‘Fraggle Rock,’” Joseph said in a statement, adding that he’s never stopped loving Henson’s work and he’s thrilled to be collaborating with Lisa Henson and New Regency.

A movie adaptation has been in the works for almost 10 years, but Variety noted that, with JGL coming on board, it gives the project a major push forward. There’s no word on when the movie might be released, or other details, but the Doozers are probably busy building all the sets so it may be a while.
