Cameras should be rolling in April.
‘The Batman’s Mattson Tomlin wrote the latest draft of the script.
Announced at Lionsgate’s event during last year’s CinemaCon event, the yet-to-be-titled ‘John Wick’ spin-off based around the blind assassin Caine, as played by action legend Donnie Yen is now moving towards production.
With Yen directing as well as starring, the movie is scheduled to start shooting next month.

Here’s Yen’s statement on the new movie:
“What drew me to Caine is the contradiction. He carries love, responsibility, and sacrifice in a world built on consequence. That creates a very different kind of action hero. This film is an opportunity to push the genre forward. My goal is to create the most definitive martial arts-infused action film ever made, one that honors what audiences love about ‘John Wick’ while bringing a new emotional depth and visual language to the story. As both director and actor, I’m excited to shape this chapter in a way that reflects everything I’ve learned over decades in action cinema, while building something that feels entirely new.”

Wade Eastwood, an accomplished stuntman, stunt coordinator and second-unit director is now making the leap to the main chair –– and filming is scheduled to kick off in Madrid next month, with ‘John Wick’ production company Thunder Road involved.
Written by Nicki Cortese and Nick Inglis, ‘Mister’ follows a man (Goggins) who wakes up in a strange house covered in blood and comes to realize his true identity while fighting off contract killers from his past — including everyone from his exes to his best friend. To get out, he teams up with his estranged daughter (Moretz) who also has ended up in the family business, but they will need to repair their relationship in order to survive.

Eastwood said this about his new cast:
“From our first conversations, I knew Walton would bring an unpredictable spark you simply can’t manufacture — he’s electric. Chloë brings an incredible mix of strength, vulnerability and razor-sharp timing. Together, they make Mister exactly what we set out to create: bold, funny and completely full-throttle.”

Henry Cavill has posted the first look at the new ‘Highlander’ movie.
He’s playing sword-swinging immortal McLeod.
Chad Stahelski has started directing the film.
After a long development process, and plenty of casting news drops, the new take on 1986 action pic ‘Highlander’ is officially in production with Chad Stahelski directing and Henry Cavill starring as an immortal warrior who must battle others of his kind.
Cavill’s caption includes the phrase, “this has been quite the journey for me, which I’ll tell you all about when the time is right,” which might be a reference to an injury he sustained while training, which pushed the schedule of the movie back.

The 1988 original revolves around Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert), a Scottish Highlander born in the 16th Century who is somehow immortal. He has survived through the centuries, and learns from Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez (Sean Connery), that he is part of a race of many who can only die when beheaded.
We don’t exactly know what elements the new movie (written by Michael Finch) will utilize, but Stahelski has said the focus will be on modern-day New York and Hong Kong.
When will the new ‘Highlander’ be in cinemas?

Amazon MGM Studios has yet to announce a release date for the movie, but a 2027 date is not out of the question given that cameras are rolling.

Colin Farrell is playing a vengeful priest in ‘Ordained.’
‘John Wick’s Derek Kolstad adapted the script from a forthcoming comic title.
Joe and Anthony Russo will produce.
Can a movie where a priest delivers a touch of the ol’ ultraviolence be considered “faith based”? We’re not sure the target audience for movies with that descriptor would agree, but it makes us chuckle, nonetheless.
‘Ordained’ is based on an upcoming comic book by publisher Bad Idea, created by writer Robert Venditti, illustrator Trevor Hairsine and colorist Dave Stewart.
Farrell will star as Father Roy Craig, a priest who performs last rites on a mob boss who miraculously survives — but not before confessing his crimes to the father.
Soon after, Father Roy finds himself targeted by hitmen, corrupt cops and gangsters — all sent by the mob boss who wants to silence him. But Father Roy secretly has a violent past that makes him a more dangerous target than anyone imagines. (He does, however follow the commandment Thou Shall Not Kill, but we’re fairly sure he’s not above brutal maimings!)
Where else can we see Colin Farrell?

Farrell has had something of a mixed year so far –– he scored plenty of acclaim for 2024’s ‘The Batman’ TV spin-off ‘The Penguin,’ but his 2025 movie work hasn’t fared so well –– ‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’ got bad reviews and did little business at the box office.
Still, Farrell will likely have more luck (even if he has to get back into the prosthetics) when he reprises the role of Oz Cobb for ‘The Batman II’, which should finally begin shooting next year.
This one is a case of waiting to see which company picks it up. The movie is also without a director at the moment (Kolstad may do it, but that isn’t confirmed yet).

Deadline brings word that he’s set to face off against baddies in a new revenge-flavored action movie called ‘Hour of Reckoning.’

You might not be too surprised to learn that this one is being produced by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee and Will Flynn of Thunder Road, which has brought us the likes of ‘John Wick’ and ‘Sicario’ and this new movie certainly feels akin to the ‘Wick’ franchise.

Official synopsis time! When a retired lawman (Sutherland) returns to his dying hometown to investigate his brother’s mysterious death, he uncovers a brutal criminal empire led by a charismatic psychopath who rules through fear and corruption.
As he digs deeper into a web of drug and human trafficking, his pursuit of truth ignites a violent war for justice — pitting one man’s code against an entire town. ‘Hour of Reckoning’ is a gritty, high-octane revenge thriller that turns one man’s hunt for the truth into a scorched-earth war against corruption. So now you know…

While ‘24’ fans eagerly await news on more potential time with Jack Bauer, Sutherland has been keeping busy with other projects.
He’s currently at work on drama ‘Father Joe,’ which co-stars Al Pacino, and has others at various stages of production, including comedy drama TV movie ‘Tinsel Town’ (due November 28) and action thriller ‘Sierra Madre’ (which has yet to lock down a date).
When will ‘Hour of Reckoning’ be on screens?
The production team has the rights to distribute the movie up for sale at this year’s American Film Market, so once it lands a home, we’ll know more about when it could head to theaters (or streaming).

He has survived through the centuries, and learns from Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez (Sean Connery), that he is part of a race of many who can only die when beheaded.
The power of the slain immortal is absorbed into the victor, and they are all competing for “The Prize” –– enough power to rule Earth forever. Connor’s biggest threat is the Kurgan, a murderous brute of an immortal who wants that power for himself and Connor must face him at an event known as The Gathering.

Stahelski on the story for the new movie

Here’s what Stahelski had to say about the plot and changes:
“We’re bringing it forward from the early 1500s in the Highlands to the beyond present-day New York and Hong Kong. There’s big opportunity for action… and it’s a bit of a love story — but not how you think.”
Finch’s script is the most recent draft, and it is taking some diversions from the original as it builds out a more complex and deeper world.
Cavill is MacLeod, with Crowe as a version of Ramirez. Bautista is playing the Kurgan, the movie’s top villain, while Gillan is MacLeod’s Scottish and very mortal wife. Djimon Hounsou is an immortal warrior from Africa, while Abela is MacLeod’s modern romantic interest. Max Zhang and Drew McIntyre are also in the cast, with McIntyre taking the role of Cavill’s brother.
Irons will be the movie’s other antagonist, the leader of a secret order called The Watchers, who are keeping an eye on the immortals and see them as a threat to humanity.
When will the new ‘Highlander’ be on screens?
Amazon MGM Studios has yet to confirm a release date for the movie, and it may yet appear later given the production delay.

The genre of “seemingly downtrodden/ordinary guy reveals badass side to himself” has become a busy one of late, with the likes of Bob Odenkirk and Ke Huy Quan proving to be more than able to throw a punch or six.
And while we’re not sure that ‘Weapons’ star Josh Brolin exactly falls into the category of “unexpected” kick-ass hero (he always seems like he can handle himself –– he took on the Avengers!), he’s now aboard a new action-comedy called ‘Mister’.

In the director’s chair for this one is Wade Eastwood –– no relation to the growling acting/directing legend, he’s actually an accomplished stuntman, stunt coordinator and second-unit director now making the leap to the main chair –– and filming is scheduled to kick off in Spain early next year.
Written by Nicki Cortese and Nick Inglis, ‘Mister’ follows a man (Brolin) who wakes up in a strange house covered in blood and comes to realize his true identity while fighting off contract killers from his past — including everyone from his exes to his best friend.
To get out, he teams up with his estranged daughter who also has ended up in the family business, but they will need to repair their relationship in order to survive.
“Having the opportunity to collaborate with Josh is everything I could have hoped for. His presence and gravitas define ‘Mister’ and bring the film to life in every way. What excites me most about this project is the depth of the characters and complexity of their relationships, which allows me to build action around story, without ever losing the intensity the genre demands.”
Production companies Bright White Light and ‘John Wick’ team Thunder Road are shepherding this one.

But we’ve also brought in elements of all the TV shows, and we’re trying to do a bit of a prequel, a setup to The Gathering, so we have room to grow the property.”

It spawned several sequels (including the much-maligned ‘Highlander II: The Quickening’, which attempted to introduce the idea that the immortals are aliens), various spin-off TV series plus comics, video games and a host of other merchandise.
While Stahelski clearly loves the original, he’s not above pointing out its flaws:
“There’s not a lot that happens in the second act, It’s mostly about bitchin’ flashbacks with Sean Connery mugging the camera. You watch the movie, and it has no business being good or cool or interesting, but for whatever reason — the fisheye lenses, weird sword fights, f****d up dialogue, and the Queen soundtrack make it one of the funnest movies you’ll ever watch.”

And how he pitched it to his leading man, per Collider:
“My selling point to [Henry] was, look, you’ve got a guy that’s been alive for over 500 years. He’s the last person in the world that wanted to be in this situation. So you get to cover quite a broad spread of a character arc… and you get to experience someone that’s trained over 500 years and sort of played [with many types of] martial arts.”

Who are the new recruits playing in the ‘Highlander’ re-imagining?
(L to R) Aaron Taylor Johnson and Russell Crowe in Columbia Pictures and Marvel ‘Kraven the Hunter’. Photo: Sony Pictures.
According to current reports, Crowe will be a take on the “Spaniard” Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez, as brought to life by Connery (with zero hint of a Spanish accent!)
So Crowe could be showing up as a veteran immortal warrior who helps Cavill’s character achieve his destiny.
As for Abela, she apparently has one of the other lead roles, a new characters for the story, an immortal who is a teacher of swordplay and one of MacLeod’s past loves.
Despite Amazon MGM’s clear enthusiasm for the movie, it is not yet at a point where the company can set a release date, but ‘Highlander’ is apparently destined for theaters rather than direct to streaming.
