‘The X-Files’, originally created by Chris Carter, aired on Fox from 1993-2001 before being revived at the network for two more seasons in 2016 and 2018. It starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, who investigate cases that lean towards the paranormal and otherwise unusual.

Two movies were made based on the original show, but there’s no word yet on whether either Duchovny or Anderson will appear in any capacity. As for the new potential series’ logline? “Two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.”

Deadwyler and Patel will be playing a new original characters –– we’re assuming at this point they’ll be the main agents.

Coogler is aboard to write and direct the pilot, but should the show go to series, ‘The Copenhagen Test’s Jennifer Yale will be overseeing it.

Coogler, an avowed fan of the supernatural, has spoken previously to Variety about his feelings for the show:

“Like my relationship with ‘Rocky’ with my dad, ‘The X-Files’ is one of those things with my mom. My mom means the world to me…so this is a big one for me. I want to do right by her and the fans. My mom has read some of the stuff I wrote for it. She’s fired up.”

    • Stephen Amell will lead the new ‘Baywatch’ series.
    • It’ll follow the adventures of a grown Hobie Buchannon.
    • Fox has handed the show a 12-episode initial order.

The effort to take classic TV shows and rework them for modern audiences continues with word that the new Fox ‘Baywatch’ series from ‘Burn Notice’ creator Matt Nix has found its star.

Stephen Amell, formerly of ‘Arrow’, is aboard to play Hobie Buchannon, the son of David Hasselhoff’s iconic Mitch Buchannon and the role played for most of the original show’s run by Jeremy Jackson.

This could be what Amell’s post-DC TV career could use, particularly after the solid but little-seen ‘Heels’ jumped out of the wrestling ring after two seasons and ‘Suits LA’ could only manage one poorly-rated run.

Following its 1989 debut and a swift cancellation by NBC after one season, the original series became the most-watched show airing in over 200 countries, and at its peak, reached more than a billion viewers every week. Hasselhoff led the series as lifeguard Mitch Buchannon and helped launch the careers of actors including Pamela Anderson.

In the new series,  the wild child Hobie Buchannon is now a Baywatch Captain, following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Mitch. Hobie’s world is turned upside down when Charlie, the daughter he never knew, shows up on his doorstep, eager to carry on the Buchannon family legacy and become a Baywatch lifeguard alongside her dad.

Nix seems to think the casting will work:

“From the first conversation, Stephen Amell brought exactly what this new chapter of Baywatch demands: heart, intensity, and that undeniable hero energy. He’s the kind of lead who can sprint into danger, carry the emotional weight, and still make it feel fun. We’re so excited to get started.”

Per Deadline, the show will film on Venice Beach and at the Fox lot in Los Angeles.

  • Sarah Michelle Gellar Project ‘Other People’s Houses’ in Development at Fox

Sarah Michelle Gellar Project ‘Other People’s Houses’ in Development at Fox

    Sarah Michelle Gellar
    CBS

Fox is developing what could be Sarah Michelle Gellar‘s next TV series.

The network has given a script commitment to “Other People’s Houses,” a project Gellar is attached to star in and executive produce, Variety reports. “Ringer” creators Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder are on board as writers, and they’ll serve as executive producers alongside Gellar, Neil Meron, and Mark Nicholson.

The project is a suburban dramedy based on Abbi Waxman’s novel of the same name. The book follows four families in the same neighborhood carpool and how an affair changes everything. The potential series is described as being “somewhere between ‘Big Little Lies’ and ‘Catastrophe,’” as it looks at nine people in Los Angeles’ Larchmont Village who are going through emotional ups and downs. Gellar’s character is Anne Porter, a social media influencer and mom.

Over the years, Gellar has had many memorable roles. She notably played the titular character in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and starred in films like “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” “Cruel Intentions,” and “The Grudge.” More recently, she starred in the shows “Ringer” and “The Crazy Ones.”

There are still more steps between now and “Other People’s Houses” getting a greenlight, but we’re interested to see where this project goes.

    Animation on FOX/YouTube

“The Simpsons” will kick off Season 31 (yes, 31!) this fall, and in the meantime, Fox has unveiled a new clip, a parody called “West Wing Story.”

The 90-second video offers a fictional look into the White House, where a “Simpsons”-style Donald Trump is dealing with “so many problems.” One of those is the so-called “Squad” — Senators Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib — who emerge from a framed photo in the Oval Office as the cartoon Trump sings a satirical version of “America” from “West Side Story.” They start singing as well and chase him through the kitchen, the Situation Room, and more.

Other political figures make appearances, too, including Vice President Mike Pence and the many 2020 Democratic candidates. If you’ve ever wanted to see animated versions of them in a kick line, now’s your chance. Watch below.

“The Simpsons” Season 31 premieres Sunday, Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.

    Universal Pictures

It’s been less than a week since news broke that Ronda Rousey was joining “9-1-1” Season 3, and she has already shed blood for the show.

TMZ reported Tuesday that the MMA fighter badly injured her hand while filming a scene in Mexico last week. Once the word was out, Rousey shared more details about the “freak accident” that occurred. It turns out that a boat door fell on her hand during a scene, almost severing one of her fingers. The wildest part, though, is that Rousey, being used to a lot of pain, didn’t even look to see the extent of the problem until after the director yelled “cut.” At that point, actual first responders had to be called into action.

Rousey posted a photo on Instagram on Tuesday, and it’s not pretty. (You can see it here, if you’re curious.) In her caption, she explained more about her grisly injury.

“So the word is out I nearly lost my finger shooting @911onfox,” sh wrote in part. “Freak accident, first take of the day a boat door fell on my hand, I thought I just jammed my fingers so I finished the take before looking (I know it sounds crazy, but I’m used to live audiences and never showing pain unless I’m supposed to) after a break in the action I told our director the situation and was rushed via ambulance to the hospital where they promptly reattached my bone and tendon with a plate and screws.”

Gruesome as the injury was, Rousey was back on set and filming the next day. Clearly, it takes more than a nearly severed finger to keep her down.

    “9-1-1” Season 3 premieres Monday, Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.

    Universal Pictures

WWE star Ronda Rousey is going to try out being a very different kind of fighter.

The well-known mixed martial artist has signed on for a recurring role in Fox’s “9-1-1” Season 3, Deadline reports. Rousey will play a firefighter named Lena Bosko, a member of Los Angeles Fire Department Station 136. When a disaster hits, she’ll take action and show off her courage.

Season 3 is scheduled to premiere on Monday, Sept. 23. It will continue to follow the lives of various Los Angeles first responders. A new preview dropped Wednesday, and it showed a terrifying event: a tsunami. We don’t know yet how many episodes Rousey will appear in, but based on the footage we’ve seen, it’s clear they’ll need all the first responders they can get.

Rousey is best known for her fighting, but she has also had several acting jobs in recent years. Her film credits include roles in “Mile 22” and “Furious 7,” among others. She has also appeared on series such as “Blindspot” and “Drunk History.”

    Fox

“BH90210” has officially premiered, and it already looks like six episodes of the “Beverly Hills, 90210” reboot just might not be enough.

At Fox’s TCA presentation on Wednesday, stars Tori Spelling, Jennie Garth, Brian Austin Green, Gabrielle Carteris, Shannen Doherty, and Ian Ziering were on hand to discuss the new event series, Deadline reports. When the topic of future seasons came up, they made it clear that they’re not maxed out yet. As Spelling put it, it has been an “amazing experience” to reunite and work on this new project.

“We would love to continue to work together,” she said, per Deadline.

The actress didn’t get into specifics as to where the show would go, but she did note that they’ve got ideas.

“We have so many stories to tell that this could keep going season after season so we hope it does,” she said.

As of now, there aren’t official plans for more episodes beyond the six Fox ordered, but it seems there are fans who are just as excited about the idea as Spelling is.

    “BH90210” airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
