  • ‘Deadpool 2’ Casts Jack Kesy as Major Villain, But Who Will It Be?

2017 Turner Upfront“Deadpool 2” has found another bad guy — but his identity remains unclear.

“The Strain” actor Jack Kesy as a major villain. Though his exact role is unknown, sources tell the site that he could be playing Black Tom, a Dublin mutant who can manipulate and project energy through plant life. In the “X-Men” comics, he usually sends blasts through wooden shillelagh.

Kesy is just the latest new cast member to hop on board “Deadpool 2.” Josh Brolin is joining as the main villain, Cable, and “Atlanta” star Zazie Beetz will play Domino.

Ryan Reynolds reprises his role as the titular, foul-mouthed, snarky merc mutant. Morena Baccarin also returns as his love interest Vanessa, Stefan Kapacic as Colossus, and Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead.

On “The Strain,” which premieres for a fourth and final season in July, Kesy plays a goth rocker who’s one of the first to be infected with the virus that turns everyone in vampires.

“Deadpool 2” opens in theaters June 1, 2018.

  • Patrick Stewart Is Totally Open to Playing Professor X in ‘Legion,’ Too

Build Series Presents Hugh Jackman And Patrick Stewart Discussing 'Logan'Patrick Stewart is done playing Professor Charles Xavier after “Logan.”

Well, except he’d play him again in “Legion,” too!

On “The Late Late Show With James Corden,” Stewart once again told the story of screening “Logan” with Hugh Jackman in Berlin and shedding a tear that it would be a perfect farewell to Professor X. But then, he hedged, as he has been in recent days, mentioning there’s been talk of including Xavier in the “Deadpool” sequel.

Then, fellow guest Dan Stevens, who stars in “Legion,” had an idea. “What about Professor X in ‘Legion’?”

“Absolutely! One hundred percent!” Stewart replied to the “job offer.

Xavier’s inclusion in “Legion” makes a lot of sense, since — comic book spoiler alert — he is the biological father of David Haller, aka Legion, the mutant at the heart of the story (and played by Stevens). Haller is an incredibly powerful telepath, much like Professor X, though his abilities have been mistaken for (or at least complicated by) mental illness.

And hey, while we’re at it, why not add Stewart to that “X-Men” pilot that Bryan Singer is developing. Professor X in everything!

  • ‘Deadpool 2’ Eyes ‘John Wick’ Director David Leitch

After losing original “Deadpool” director Tim Miller last weekend over creative differences with star Ryan Reynolds, “Deadpool 2” may have already found his replacement.

Mashable is reporting that David Leitch, who co-directed Keanu Reeves action flick “John Wick,” is the “strong frontrunner” to take the coveted gig. According to the site, Leith and Reynolds share the same talent agency, and that connection propelled the director to the top of the actor’s list, though Mashable also notes that “several other directors remain in the mix.”

Leitch may not be Quentin Tarantino (who some fans petitioned to land the job), but he’s worked with Reynolds-as-Deadpool before (he was the action coordinator for “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” in which Reynolds made his debut as Wade Wilson). The director also previously collaborated with studios Fox and Marvel as a stunt performer, in flicks such as “Blade,” “Daredevil,” and “Fight Club,” eventually working his way up to the second unit director on fellow “X-Men” spinoff property “The Wolverine,” as well as “Jurassic World” and “Captain America: Civil War.” He made his feature directorial debut on “John Wick” as part of a co-directing team with Chad Stahelski.

Though Mashable’s report cautions that no formal deal is place for Leitch yet, Variety is reporting that the gig is all but a done deal for the director. There’s been no response from Fox or Marvel yet on either report.

“Deadpool 2” does not have a release date yet. Stay tuned.

  • Ryan Reynolds Promotes Awesome ‘Deadpool 2’ Potty Poster

“Deadpool” is confirmed to go Number Two, and one fan is so excited he’s already putting in maximum effort — creating brilliant posters Fox should definitely use when promoting the eventual sequel.

An Instagram user called Mutant 101 — descried as Writer|Artist|Dad|Coach — has been posting great Marvel fan art, including two posters for “Deadpool 2.”

Here’s the best one, which Ryan Reynolds flushed down his own Instagram:

    Ahhhhh, @mutant101. Isn’t this a felony?

How is that not completely perfect in every way? Totally worthy of a Taylor Swift heart symbol.

Down at the bottom it says “coming soon,” with “‘soon’ as in 2018.” Is that really the case? Producer Simon Kinberg recently told Collider they hope to start shooting the sequel in the beginning of next year. That could leave an opening for a 2018 premiere.

In terms of when, here’s Collider’s theory:

“Right now, Fox has untitled Marvel movies set for March 2nd and another set for June 29th. June 29th seems like the more likely option between the two. While March 2nd is closer to the original’s mid-February release date, that date showed that Deadpool could play with the big boys and stand as a serious studio tentpole. Granted, with an almost guaranteed R-rating it’s not like Deadpool 2 needs to wait for kids to be out of school, but the July 4th weekend just seems like a more promising opportunity for the superhero sequel.”

We’ll see. We know, thanks in part to a tip from Deadpool himself at the end of the first movie, that the sequel will involve the character Cable. Speaking of Cable, here’s another Mutant 101 poster for “Deadpool 2,” featuring a Cable tease:

“Deadpool” had such perfect marketing, and this guy fits right in. Fox probably doesn’t need to pay him to keep going, but with all the money flowing in, why not? Put him on retainer and let him do little teasers like this for the next two years.
