“The Walking Dead: The Complete Eighth Season”
All the crazy *stuff and thangs* that happened in “The Walking Dead” Season 8 can be watched along with bonus features as All-Out War arrives on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital August 21. Extras include audio commentaries for three episodes, with showrunner Scott Gimple and episode writers and directors; and the featurettes “Carl Grimes: Leaving a Legacy,” “In Memoriam,” and “The Price of War.”

Check out this exclusive featurette clip with the stars talking about the moral compass of the season:

    “First Reformed”
This acclaimed thriller-drama (easily one of the year’s best films) arrives on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital August 21. Reverend Ernst Toller (Ethan Hawke) is a solitary, middle-aged parish pastor at a struggling church. When a pregnant parishioner (Amanda Seyfried) asks the reverend to counsel her husband, Toller is plunged into his own tormented past-and equally despairing future-until he finds redemption. Extras include audio commentary with director Paul Schrader, and the featurette “Discernment: Contemplating First Reformed.”

    “Adrift”Shailene Woodley, AdriftSTX Films

Shailene Woodley went on a “f*cking miserable” near-starvation diet to make this underrated drama, which is based on a true story. As two sailors set out on a journey across the ocean, Tami Oldham (Woodley) and Richard Sharp (Sam Claflin) never anticipated they would be sailing directly into one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in recorded history. With no hope for rescue, Tami must find the strength and determination to save herself and the only man she has ever loved. Watch the film on Digital August 21, and Blu-ray/DVD/On Demand September 4. “Crime & Punishment” (Hulu)
Hulu picked up the rights to this award-winning documentary, and it’s partnering with IFC Films for a simultaneous theatrical release and Hulu streaming this Friday, August 24. The documentary goes behind-the-scenes to expose discriminatory policing practices, intimidation, and corruption within the NYC Police Department. “Amidst a landmark class action lawsuit over illegal policing quotas, ‘Crime + Punishment’ chronicles the real lives and struggles of a group of black and Latino whistleblower cops and the young minorities they are pressured to arrest and summons in New York City.” Check out the trailer.

    “Mystery Road” (Acorn TV)
Judy Davis and Aaron Pedersen star in this Outback noir series, which starts streaming Monday, August 20 on Acorn TV. Compared to “an Aussie ‘True Detective’ and ‘Fargo,’” the drama stars Pedersen as detective Jay Swan, who is sent to the remote Outback town of Patterson to investigate the disappearance of two young cattle workers. He is partnered with local copy Emma James (Davis) to solve the case. Check out the trailer.

    “Summer of 84”
This horror-thriller just hit select theaters August 10 and will be available on VOD and Digital HD this Friday, August 24. The official synopsis: “Summer, 1984: The perfect time to be 15 years old and care free. But when neighborhood conspiracy theorist Davey Armstrong (Graham Verchere) begins to suspect his police officer neighbor might be the serial killer all over the local news, he and his three best friends begin an investigation that soon turns dangerous.” If you’re a fan of “Stranger Things” or Stephen King, give this one a whirl. It rules.

    New on Netflix

    “The Innocents” (Netflix Original)The InnocentsNetflix

If you like the supernatural and scary, this could be a good week for you. This British supernatural TV series follows a teen shape-shifter, and her eight-episode journey starts August 24 on Netflix. Guy Pearce, Sorcha Groundsell, and Percelle Ascott star in the mysterious drama: “What you see…is not what you see…June’s adventure starting a new life in London becomes a LOT more complicated than she could have ever expected. Suddenly she finds herself the subject of a kidnap plot, their intentions unknown. Faced with extreme stress her body and identity begin to shift in ways she could have never imagined. The question is not just how…but why?” Watch the trailer.

    “Ghoul” (Netflix Original)
From the makers of “Insidious,” “Get Out,” and “Udta Punjab,” “Ghoul” is a chilling new Indian horror miniseries about “a prisoner who arrives at a remote military interrogation center and turns the tables on his interrogators, exposing their most shameful secrets. You can fight the demons of this world but what about the ones that aren’t?” Here’s the trailer.

    “Follow This” (Netflix Original)
This new docuseries seems like a Netflix version of HBO’s “Vice,” following reporters at BuzzFeed as they probe cultural topics ranging from quirky Internet crazes to safe injection spaces for opioid users. Check it out starting August 23.

    “The After Party” (Netflix Film)
If you want a break from scary stuff and docuseries, check out this comedy film arriving August 24. “When an aspiring rapper goes viral for all the wrong reasons, he thinks his career is over. But when his best friend gets them into a wild NYC after party, he gets one more chance to make the impossible happen.” Here’s the trailer.

    TV Worth Watching

“Mr. Mercedes” Season 2 (Wednesday on Audience Network at 10 p.m.)Mr. MercedesAudience Network

Everything Stephen King touches is gold these days. Brendan Gleeson (Bill Hodges) and Harry Treadaway (Brady Hartsfield) return for Season 2 of this series based on King’s “Mr. Mercedes” trilogy. Be warned, though: Season 2 will be inspired by the third and final book, “End of Watch,” rather than “Finders Keepers.” During Comic-Con, EP/director Jack Bender explained that it’s because the heroes don’t even come into the story until halfway through the book and that didn’t wash with the TV series plans. The 10-episode second season, which premieres August 22, adds several new stars — including Jack Huston as Hartsfield’s doctor, Felix Badineau; and Maximiliano Hernandez as Assistant DA Antonio Montez.

“America to Me” (Sunday on Starz at 10 p.m.)
This ambitious 10-part docuseries — starting August 26 on Starz — follows students, teachers, and administrators in the suburban Chicago area’s Oak Park and River Forest High School over the course of a year. OPRF is one of the country’s highest performing and diverse public schools, and the series sparks candid conversations about what has succeeded and what has failed in the quest to achieve racial equity and overcome obstacles in our education system.

MTV Music Video Awards (Monday on MTV at 9 p.m.)
Imma let you finish, but you never know what can happen at the VMAs. Cardi B, Beyonce, and Jay-Z lead the nominees for the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards, which air live August 20 from Radio City Music Hall.

  • Chris Hemsworth Tries to Share ‘Avengers 4’ Spoilers, and Trade Roles With Deadpool

Chris Hemsworth Tries to Share ‘Avengers 4’ Spoilers, and Trade Roles With Deadpool

    Chris Hemsworth, Thor, Thor: Ragnarok
    Marvel Studios

Well. Chris Hemsworth may or may not be in “Star Trek 4,” but he seems free to take over Ryan Reynolds‘ job as Deadpool.

That’s boldly going where only one guy has gone before!

Hemsworth made headlines Friday for his “Star Trek” salary dispute, but he seemed to be in great spirits over the weekend. That’s probably because he celebrated his birthday on August 11, turning 35.

Thor had some birthday cake, as one does, and that’s when he made his quip about taking over as the Merc with a Mouth:

Of course, Ryan Reynolds jumped in and offered to be the new Thor:

They’re joking, but there’s something to that idea. Marvel and Disney are in the process of joining forces, which should eventually bring the MCU and Marvel-Fox worlds together. Anyone else up for a Thor/Deadpool buddy movie?

So on Saturday Thor almost burned his other eye out. On Sunday, he won a Teen Choice Award, but wasn’t around to accept it because he’s filming “Men in Black” in the U.K. So instead he taped a cute video, sharing “Avengers 4” title and plot spoilers that just didn’t survive the connection:

We’re supposed to learn the title of “Avengers 4” sometime later this year, around when we get the first teasers for “Captain Marvel.” “Avengers 4” opens in theaters May 4 (for now). Meanwhile, “Deadpool 2” is now out on Digital and coming to DVD/Blu-ray August 21.

  • ‘Deadpool 2’ Star Zazie Beetz in Talks for Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker’ Movie

‘Deadpool 2’ Star Zazie Beetz in Talks for Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker’ Movie

    Deadpool 2, Zazie Beetz, Domino
    20th Century Fox

Zazie Beetz is still feelin’ lucky. The Domino actress is fresh off “Deadpool 2” and now she’s ready to join another superhero/villain movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the “Atlanta” actress is in talks to join Joaquin Phoenix‘s “Joker” origin movie, from director Todd Phillips.

She would play “a single mother who catches the interest of the man who will become the ‘clown prince of crime.’”

“Joker” has been compared to a dark crime thriller, described as an “exploration of a man disregarded by society that is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.”

It’s meant to have a lower budget than the DC Extended Universe movies, since it’s not part of that world. (Jared Leto is still the current Joker in the DCEU, and he may still get his own movie.)

“Joker” — the official title — is scheduled to start filming in New York in September.

Meanwhile, Beetz’s career is still flying high. She’s an Emmy nominee for her role as Van in “Atlanta,” and she has several films coming up beyond “Joker” — including “Finding Her,” “Slice,” “High Flying Bird,” “The Undiscovered Country,” “Against All Enemies,” and “Pale Blue Dot.” She’ll also be back for more fun with Ryan Reynolds in the eventual “X-Force” movie.

“Joker” was just given a release date of Oct. 4, 2019.

  • An Uncut Version of ‘Deadpool 2’ Will Screen at Comic-Con

    20th Century Fox

The Merc With a Mouth is getting an extended encore at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, with a special “uncut” version of “Deadpool 2” set to screen at the fan event later this month.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the sequel — alternatively titled “Deadpool 2: Uncut” and the “Super Duper $@%!#& Cut” — will be the same version that audiences can see when they pick up the film’s Blu-ray or digital release on August 21. But fans who secure a coveted Comic-Con ticket can watch it an entire month earlier, on Saturday, July 21.

The exact logistics of the event are still a bit unclear (EW reports that both 10 p.m. PST and 9:30 p.m. PST are listed as start times for the event), but you’re going to need either a Saturday or weekend-long Comic-Con badge in order to buy tickets. The lucky few who do score a seat at the screening will be treated to “15 minutes of brand-new action and jokes lovingly inserted throughout,” per EW.

Fox will also host a “Deadpool” panel earlier in the day, featuring titular star Ryan Reynolds and some unnamed “pals.” The official listing for the event tells fans to “Expect dirty jokes, broken fourth walls, maybe some spandex, and real, live unicorns!* *Panel may not actually include mythical creatures.”

More information about both events can be found on the official Comic-Con schedule here.

  • Ryan Reynolds Re-Teams With Deadpool’ Writers, Michael Bay for Netflix Action Film

Fresh off the success of “Deadpool 2,” Ryan Reynolds is re-teaming with that flick’s writers for yet another action film. And this time, they’re collaborating with one of the kings of the genre.

Netflix announced on Tuesday that it had acquired the rights to a new action flick called “Six Underground,” and it’s already got a seriously impressive roster of creative talent: Reynolds will star; “Deadpool” and “Deadpool 2” screenwriting duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are penning the script; and none other than Michael Bay is directing.

Bay’s bonafides in the action genre are legendary, putting out some of the most recognizable titles in that category over the past few decades in either a director and/or producer capacity. In case you need a refresher, his hits include the “Bad Boys,” “Transformers,” and “Purge” series, “Armageddon,” the rebooted “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” and most recently, “A Quiet Place.”

For “Six Underground,” Bay will once again produce. There are no details about the film’s plot, though the official Netflix press release says the film is “based on an original idea” by Reese and Wernick, who are also producing.

According to Variety, the film will be one of the most expensive that Netflix has made so far, with an estimated budget in the $125 million range. The streaming service reportedly beat out several other suitors for the project, including Bay’s home studio Paramount, after committing to the eye-popping pricetag.

Production on “Six Underground” is slated to begin sometime this summer, and Netflix hopes to release it worldwide sometime in 2019.

  • ‘Deadpool 2’ Promo Offers David Beckham an Apology, Several Grand Gestures

Sometimes, the merc with a mouth puts his foot in it.

In the latest “Deadpool 2” promo, star Ryan Reynolds, dressed as the oft-inappropriate superhero, decides he needs to make amends with soccer star David Beckham after insulting him in the past. The short video reminds fans of what went down: In “Deadpool,” Reynolds’s character claimed that Beckham sounds like he “mouth-sexed a can of helium” when he speaks. Now, Deadpool (or maybe Reynolds?) is shown feeling bad about his comment and ready to do what it takes to gain forgiveness.

Deadpool has his quirks, and it turns out that apologizing in style is one of them. The unconventional superhero shows up at Beckham’s door not one, not two, but four times with grand gestures that ultimately put him back in his friend’s good graces. It makes for a pretty entertaining promo, especially when they reconcile and we learn what Beckham smells like.

    Watch Deadpool grovel below.

“Deadpool 2” opens in theaters May 18.

  • Zazie Beetz Admits She Didn’t See ‘Deadpool’ Before Getting Involved With Sequel

Don’t tell Marvel, but it looks like “Deadpool 2” star Zazie Beetz isn’t necessarily the biggest comic book aficionado.

The actress was a guest on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Wednesday, and the late-night host got a confession out of her that she looked a little guilty about. Kimmel started by asking her if she saw the original Ryan Reynolds-starring superhero flick, and she was able to say that she had. However, when he followed up by asking her if she saw “Deadpool” before getting involved with its sequel, Beetz had to admit she had not.

“Did you see it before you know you were going to be involved in the sequel?” Kimmel asked.

“No,” Beetz told him in a whispering and with a hand covering her mouth.

Kimmel didn’t harp too much on her revelation, but he did joke that he’d have asked her at casting and taken her out of the running for the part. Fans will hopefully move past her revelation as quickly, too. From what we’ve see of Beetz in “Deadpool 2” so far, it looks like a good thing that Kimmel didn’t keep her from getting the role.

Watch a new clip from the film and Beetz’s Kimmel interview below.

“Deadpool 2” hits theaters May 18; “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.

  • Watch Deadpool and Celine Dion Team Up for a New Song from the ‘Deadpool 2’ Soundtrack

Vancouver native Ryan Reynolds is getting some assistance from another Canadian superstar for upcoming sequel “Deadpool 2“: Celine Dion has recorded a new song for the film’s official soundtrack, and the Merc With a Mouth himself stars alongside the songstress in the music video.

If you’re at all familiar with “Deadpool” and the marketing machine behind it — led by Reynolds’s willingness to do anything and mock anyone (most importantly himself) for a laugh — then you already know that the video for “Ashes” is hilarious. What you may not expect, however, is that the song is a straight-up power ballad, exactly the type of tune you’d expect someone like Dion to belt out with all her might.

Of course, that level of self-seriousness isn’t all that serious, especially when Deadpool takes the stage with the singer to dance his spandex-clad butt off. His leg lifts (revealing high-heeled boots) are pretty impressive, too.

Come for the hilarious juxtaposition. Stay for Celine’s closing burn not-so-accidentally calling him a different super hero.

As Dion raved on Twitter, “Deadpool 2” is poised to be “the most insane ride of your life,” and the singer promises “You’ll be laughing your ‘ashes’ off!” Now that’s the type of celebrity endorsement we can get behind.

The sequel opens on May 18.

  • Ryan Reynolds Is Lloyd Dobler in New ‘Deadpool 2’ Photo

The promotional campaign for “Deadpool 2” has been all about making references to (or many cases, making fun of) various pop culture properties — just look at the film’s latest (and allegedly last) trailer for proof. Now, yet another photo has been released from the flick, and it should come as no surprise that it, too, has the fingerprints of another movie all over it.

The image, debuted by Entertainment Weekly, is a direct reference to beloved ’80s flick “Say Anything…,” and the specific moment in which lovelorn Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack) holds up a boom box outside the window of Diane Court (Ione Skye) in the hopes of winning her back. This time around, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) is standing in for Lloyd, and he’s trying to convince Colossus (Stefan Kapičić) to join his new gang, the X-Force.

According to Reynolds, audiences should expect many more moments like this in the sequel.

“There are a lot of different nods to films that we all loved growing up,” the actor told EW.

“Deadpool 2” also stars Zazie Beetz (you can see her in the above image, hanging out in the cab while Deadpool tries to woo Colossus), Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, and T.J. Miller. It opens on May 18.
