Michael Keaton Looks Appropriately Evil in New ‘Dumbo’ Character Posters

    Disney

New “Dumbo” character posters make it clear that Michael Keaton is every inch the villain in the live-action Tim Burton remake of the Disney classic.

We’re getting a kind of Max Shreck/Lucius Malfoy vibe from Keaton’s platinum hair. And the ascot… well, we can’t help but think they’re suspicious since Hugh Grant’s delightfully vain actor villain in “Paddington 2” rarely went anywhere without one.

Now as for good guy Colin Farrell’s neckwear, that’s more of a cowboy kerchief, right?

    Here’s the official character breakdown:
    • Holt Farrier (Farrell), a former circus star charged with caring for an elephant who can fly
    • Max Medici (Danny DeVito), the owner of a struggling circus who hopes Dumbo will bring in the crowds
    • V.A. Vandevere (Keaton), an entrepreneur who sets his sights on Medici’s circus and its flying elephant
    • Colette Marchant (Eva Green), an accomplished aerialist who’s cast to fly alongside Dumbo in a state-of-the-art amusement park called Dreamland.

    “Dumbo” opens March 29.

  • Danny DeVito Joins ‘Jumanji’ Sequel

    Danny DeVito Joins ‘Jumanji’ Sequel

    Disney

Danny DeVito is the latest actor to join the sequel to “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.”

Along with new addition Awkafina (“Crazy Rich Asians”), the sequel will bring back the original cast with Jake Kasdan returning as director.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” a loose sequel to the 1995 film, earned $962 million worldwide. It followed four teens transported into the world of Jumanji, where they’re turn into their adult avatars. Including, hilariously, a teenage girl who’s now Jack Black — and crushing on her now beefed-up schoolmate played by Dwayne Johnson.

While we don’t know who DeVito is playing, it’s likely he’ll be a game character as well.

“The magic of ‘Jumanji’ is who becomes who. And the idea of Danny DeVito joining our cast was too irresistible and something we knew we wanted to deliver to our audience this upcoming Christmas. Dwanta Claus loves everyone,” Johnson said.

DeVito will next be seen in as the circus ringmaster in Tim Burton’s live-action “Dumbo.”

    “Dumbo” is ready for take-off.

Disney released a new trailer for the Tim Burton-directed live-action remake of its 1941 animated classic. Colin Farrell stars as a single dad  who works at a traveling circus. His two kids bond with an adorable young elephant with huge ears named Dumbo, who demonstrates the amazing ability to fly — taking their small circus to new heights.

But that unique skill bring him to the attention of a greedy entrepreneur named V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton), who wants to exploit Dumbo — by putting him in harm’s way.

The trailer provides much more detail about the plot than previously known, and much of it aligns with the original film, though there appear to be new characters.  Danny DeVito, Eva Green, Alan Arkin, Finley Hobbins, and Nico Parker also star.

“Dumbo” is the latest Disney animated classic to get the live-action treatment. It will be followed by the more high-profile remakes of “The Lion King” and “Mulan.”

“Dumbo” opens in theaters March 29, 2019.

  • Penguin May Be the Villain in ‘The Batman’ or ‘Birds of Prey’

While we still have no idea when “The Batman” is hitting the big screen, we may now know who will be antagonizing the titular hero.

Variety reporter Justin Kroll has been tweeting about a new rumor floating around the DCEU, focused on the Penguin. The villain is apparently currently the main choice to appear in director Matt Reeves‘s spinoff flick, according to Kroll’s sources.

The reporter cautions that fans should “Take this with a grain of salt as things are constantly changing in the DCEU,” but the word on the street is that studio Warner Bros. is very keen on including Penguin in some fashion on the big screen, “sooner rather than later.” If the villain doesn’t ultimately end up in “The Batman,” there’s a very good chance he’ll star in the “Birds of Prey” spinoff, fronted by Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn.

That’s certainly some intriguing scoop, and we’re curious to see how another actor portrays the quirky character, who was previously memorably played by Danny DeVito in Tim Burton’s “Batman Returns.” (And is also featured on Fox’s prequel series, “Gotham.”)

Of course, as Kroll noted, this is all speculation right now, since Reeves clearly isn’t anywhere close to shooting, and we don’t even have a release date yet for “The Batman.” And then there’s the question of who exactly is going to play the Caped Crusader, since Ben Affleck is heavily rumored to be looking for a way out of the DCEU ASAP.

Fans will likely have to wait a while for answers. In the meantime, feel free to dream cast who you would want to play the new version of the Penguin.

  • The ‘Always Sunny’ Cast Was at the Super Bowl to Cheer on the Philadelphia Eagles

The Super Bowl is always a star-studded event, with celebrity football fans rubbing elbows with average NFL aficionados to cheer on the sport’s best teams. But this year, the game was even more meaningful to a select famous trio with some pretty strong ties to the ultimate champion.

Several members of the main cast of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” — the long-running FXX comedy about a gang of morally bankrupt people who run a failing Irish pub in the City of Brotherly Love — were there in Minneapolis, Minnesota to watch the Philadelphia Eagles triumph over the New England Patriots on Sunday night. Rob McElhenney, Kaitlin Olson, and Danny DeVito flew out together on a private jet to witness the historic win (the Eagles’ first), and the actors couldn’t contain their excitement.

McElhenney — who is actually a Philadelphia native, and a lifelong Eagles fan — tweeted throughout the days leading up to the big night, sharing snaps from the jet he and Olson (who are married in real life) and DeVito shared, the coincidental weather report, and the view from their seats in the stadium. McElhenney and Olson even got to schmooze with Pennsylvania governor Tom Wolf, and McElhenney was clearly overjoyed as the clock winded down and the crowd realized that Philly had indeed claimed victory.

We have to say that the real winner, though, was whatever genius decided to blast the “Always Sunny” theme song inside the stadium following the game.

Now that was some inspired play calling.
