  • An Uncut Version of ‘Deadpool 2’ Will Screen at Comic-Con

    20th Century Fox

The Merc With a Mouth is getting an extended encore at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, with a special “uncut” version of “Deadpool 2” set to screen at the fan event later this month.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the sequel — alternatively titled “Deadpool 2: Uncut” and the “Super Duper $@%!#& Cut” — will be the same version that audiences can see when they pick up the film’s Blu-ray or digital release on August 21. But fans who secure a coveted Comic-Con ticket can watch it an entire month earlier, on Saturday, July 21.

The exact logistics of the event are still a bit unclear (EW reports that both 10 p.m. PST and 9:30 p.m. PST are listed as start times for the event), but you’re going to need either a Saturday or weekend-long Comic-Con badge in order to buy tickets. The lucky few who do score a seat at the screening will be treated to “15 minutes of brand-new action and jokes lovingly inserted throughout,” per EW.

Fox will also host a “Deadpool” panel earlier in the day, featuring titular star Ryan Reynolds and some unnamed “pals.” The official listing for the event tells fans to “Expect dirty jokes, broken fourth walls, maybe some spandex, and real, live unicorns!* *Panel may not actually include mythical creatures.”

More information about both events can be found on the official Comic-Con schedule here.

  • WB TV Reveals Comic-Con Hall H Slate Featuring ‘Riverdale,’ ‘Castle Rock,’ ‘Supernatural’

“Riverdale” will be temporarily relocating to southern California: Warner Bros. Television revealed its lineup this week for this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, and the hit CW series is set for its own splashy panel in Hall H.

Though the show — which just wrapped its second season — has had an annual Comic-Con presence since before its January 2017 premiere, this will be the first time it’s featured in the hallowed Hall H at the annual fan event. The panel will include what’s being dubbed as a “special video presentation” (perhaps including footage from the upcoming third season?), as well as a Q&A with the cast and crew.

Other notable standalone events scheduled for Hall H include a presentation and Q&A for long-running sci-fi show “Supernatural,” and the world premiere screening of Hulu’s new J.J. Abrams-produced Stephen King anthology series, “Castle Rock,” which will also be followed by a Q&A. All of the CW superhero shows — including “Supergirl,” “Arrow,” and “The Flash” — are also set to be featured, as is “The Big Bang Theory,” which airs on parent network CBS.

The full schedule of WB TV’s Comic-Con 2018 panels and presentations can be found here. The event runs from July 18 through July 22.

  • ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Westworld’ Are Skipping Comic-Con

Yet another major pop culture player is foregoing a San Diego Comic-Con panel this year, with HBO announcing that neither “Game of Thrones” nor “Westworld” will be present at the annual fan event.

In a statement, the premium cable outlet explained that the omission of its two biggest series from Comic-Con was a purely logistical choice, noting that “production schedules and air dates” for the splashy series conflicted with the July event.

Here are HBO’s remarks in full:

“Due to production schedules and air dates for Game of Thronesand Westworld, these series will not be presented at San Diego Comic-Con this summer. HBO has a longstanding relationship with SDCC, and we are very grateful for the fans’ enthusiastic response over the years. We look forward to returning in the future.”

HBO has offered a “Game of Thrones” panel every year since the show’s premiere. Skipping it now, ahead of the launch of the show’s eighth and final season in 2019, seems more than a little anti-climactic. And while “Westworld” only made its Comic-Con debut last year, it seemed by all accounts poised for another buzzy panel in 2018, following all of its season two shakeups.

Of course, HBO isn’t the only notable name that won’t be presenting a panel in Hall H this year: Marvel is also passing on that noteworthy annual event, instead simply offering fans a floor exhibit honoring 10 years of the MCU. But according to Deadline, HBO won’t even be doing that, skipping any sort of Comic-Con presence entirely (and that includes a rumored sneak peek at one of the potential “Thrones” spinoffs). Bummer.

Regardless of those glaring absences, Comic-Con will be overflowing with other offerings — more information can be found here. The event runs from July 19 through July 22.

  • Sorry, Marvel Fans: The Studio Won’t Hold a Comic-Con Hall H Panel This Year

Marvel fans may want to rethink booking their tickets for this year’s Comic-Con: The studio is skipping its annual panel presentation at Hall H.

That’s what several media outlets are reporting after speaking with none other than Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige, who told reporters from both Vulture and Collider that the MCU would still have a presence at SDCC to celebrate its 10th anniversary. But there won’t be any splashy cast reunions or big-time movie reveals at a fan-packed panel event.

“Kevin Feige just told me that while Marvel will still have a floor presence, they’re skipping the usual Hall H panel to let the dust settle from INFINITY WAR,” Vulture’s Kyle Buchanan tweeted.

Collider offered a few more details from Feige, including the reminder that this isn’t the first time that Marvel will be missing from Hall H (they also skipped the panel after the first “Avengers” flick in 2012, as well as in 2015). And according to the exec, the studio purposefully wants to avoid giving out any information about its upcoming slate of flicks — including not proving the names of several untitled films scheduled to hit theaters in 2020 until after “Avengers 4” is released in May of 2019.

Skipping a flashy Comic-Con panel is certainly one way of ensuring absolute secrecy about its future releases, though as fans noted on Twitter, it’s a bit odd, considering the studio has been promoting the 10th year of the MCU so heavily and seemed primed for a big, celebratory Hall H event. And now, there won’t be any more “Avengers” panels at Comic-Con, since “Avengers 4” will come out well before SDCC 2019 (currently scheduled for July).

While this news may be disappointing for fans, at least they can comfort themselves with the knowledge that “Avengers: Infinity War” is coming out on Friday (or Thursday night, for those who bought tickets for advance showings).
