  • Charlize Theron: ‘Dark Places’ Filming Got ‘Down and Dirty’

Hollywood’s glitz and glamour went out the door during the Kansas filming of “Dark Places.”

“On the financial side, this was a bit of a harder film to finance, but we ended up getting the exact financing that we needed,” the film’s star Charlize Theron tells Made in Hollywood. “And we made this movie, I think, in the exact manner that it should have been made – which was down and dirty.”

Theron adds that she’s a “huge fan of that kind of filmmaking because I feel like everybody, you know, is there for the right reasons, ’cause they’re not getting a paycheck. They’re there because they really love it, and it’s just a different environment. It’s my favorite environment to be in.”

Nicholas Hoult and Chloe Grace Mortez are also part of the film, centered on the brutal murder of the family of Libby Day (Theron), and the secrets Libby uncovers about it 25 years later. The movie – based on the bestselling snovel by “Gone Girl” author Gillian Flynn – hits theaters on Friday. — Written by Dahvi Shira

  • This ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’-‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ Mashup Is Perfect, Dammit

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Mad Max: Fury Road
As both “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and “Mad Max: Fury Road” have proven, females are strong as hell. Now, one enterprising YouTuber has taken that concept to its logical conclusion, and created a mashup of the Netflix series and the action flick.

Featuring the auto-tuned “Kimmy” viral video spliced with footage from “Fury Road,” the clip works surprisingly well, singing the virtues of the badass women who escaped the clutches of a sadistic madman who kept them trapped for years (a plotline that can apply to both the show and the movie). Kimmy’s (Ellie Kemper) story meshes perfectly with that of Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron), who similarly breaks free from Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne) to become Unbreakable Imperator Furiosa.

Sadly, there’s no Titus (Tituss Burgess) stand-in for the ladies of “Fury Road” (maybe the next mashup video can feature Tom Hardy‘s Max belting out a special apocalypse-themed rendition of “Peeno Noir”?), but we think their new theme song is perfect all the same. Check out the awesome clip below, dammit.

  • Best of Late Night TV: Howard Stern Kisses Letterman Goodbye

    Howard Stern Kisses Letterman Goodbye
    YouTube

On Monday night, Howard Stern was Dave’s guest. Howard asked about Jay Leno, to see if he would be on Dave’s final show. It sounds like Letterman’s team asked Jay and Jay said no. Dave said Jay asked him to be on his own show for the final episode, and Dave said it was a lovely offer but he thought the show should be more about Jay. Dave thinks Jay now feels the same way about Dave’s final show.

Dave also showed an embarrassing old photo of Howard, and Stern told a story about previously going on Dave’s show and getting no response – even his own parents and listeners didn’t see it. “Thank God it’s over.” Dave and Howard also discussed their best guests ever. Good talk. In the second video, Howard – showboating through the whole interview – stood up to share his disappointment that Dave was going out to dinner with Don Rickles after the show, and they didn’t invite Howard. Then Howard brought Dave out in the open stage and basically groped him to try and get a kiss goodbye. “Kiss me! Kiss me now!” Sexual harassment!

“Conan” had an interesting Monday. Jean-Claude Van Damme – aka The Muscles From Brussels — recreated his “Kickboxer” dance scene. He also said there will be a “Kickboxer 2.”

Also on “Conan,” “The Vampire Diaries” star Nina Dobrev talked about her Instagrammed cross-country road trip (she’s in the middle of it and just paused to fly out and do this show) and did some splits with Conan O’Brien.

Charlize Theron was on “The Tonight Show” and she and Jimmy Fallon chose each other’s outfits and gave each other characters to play. It was weird. Jimmy couldn’t figure out whether he was meant to be a man or a woman. (Charlize said he was a woman, and even named her.) Charlize had a potty mouth and had to be bleeped at one point. Late in the video, they went over to join the Roots and Charlize pretended to play guitar. If they weren’t high through this, they should probably say they were anyway. Dumb.

Louis C.K. was on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and Louis talked about how he wrote for “Late Night” when Conan O’Brien was the host. Louis and another writer slipped in a joke about Conan getting a pearl necklace. It’s not a great joke even if you get it.

This Sunday is the final episode of “Mad Men” and Seth did a great video on the “Mad Men” previews that tell you NOTHING about the next episode. Here’s “The Best of ‘Next Week on Mad Men.’” This is an accurate representation of what they’re like.

Mark Harmon and Zoe McLellan were on “The Late Late Show with James Corden” and James pushed Mark for spoilers on who will be killed off “NCIS.”

  • The New ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Trailer Is Basically ‘Fast and Furious: Apocalypse Edition’ (VIDEO)

    mad max: fury road
A new, bats–t insane trailer for “Mad Max: Fury Road” is here, and like the flick’s other teasers before it, it’s full of explosions, car chases, and creepy dudes in masks and chains — all seasoned with an apocalyptic flavor.

This time around, the clip focuses more on the villains, led by Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne), who straps on a horrifying teeth-filled mask as he makes odd proclamations before screaming masses. He’s also consumed by the need to recapture a group of comely lasses who have escaped his clutches.

Leading the charge against him are Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy, with the latter explaining what’s driving him to fight back.

“As the world fell, each of us in our own way was broken,” he intones. “It was hard to know who was more crazy: me, or everyone else.”

If we had to go out on a limb, we’d guess “everyone else,” but who are we to judge? In the world of “Fury Road,” it seems that insanity is the new black.

“Mad Mad: Fury Road” is directed by original “Mad Max” mastermind George Miller. It’s due in theaters on May 15.

  • Charlize Theron Investigates in Gillian Flynn’s ‘Dark Places’ (VIDEO)

    Dark Places
A new international (and somewhat NSFW) trailer for “Dark Places,” based on the book by “Gone Girl” author and screenwriter Gillian Flynn, shares its predecessor’s penchant for ominous twists and turns — and appears equally goosebump-inducing.

The film follows Libby (Charlize Theron), a now-grown woman whose mother and sisters were murdered when she was 8. Libby implicated her brother, Ben, in the crime, and he’s currently in prison — but a group of people dubbed the Kill Club believe he may be innocent.

Libby agrees to track down old witnesses in an effort to uncover the truth, though when she awakens the past, she finds there’s more to be afraid of than ever before.

“Dark Places,” directed by French helmer Gilles Paquet-Brenner, also stars Nicholas Hoult, Chloe Grace Moretz, Christina Hendricks, Tye Sheridan, Corey Stoll, and Drea de Matteo. It’s due in theaters this spring.

  • ‘The Huntsman’ Adds Jessica Chastain

87th Annual Academy Awards - ArrivalsOscar nom Jessica Chastain is the latest high-profile star to join “The Huntsman,” Universal’s spin-off of the 2012 blockbuster “Snow White and the Huntsman.” It’s taken a while for this big budget fantasy flick to get off the ground, but with the recent hire of Emily Blunt and now Chastain, it seems this team is just about ready to go back into the woods.

Chris Hemsworth is returning as the eponymous huntsman, alongside Charlize Theron as Ravenna, the best and meanest screen queen. The project was originally intended as a sequel, but after considerable behind-the-scenes drama, Kristen Stewart’s Snow White and director Rupert Sanders were banished from the land. Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, who was the second unit director on “Snow White and the Huntsman” and “Maleficent,” will be making his feature-length directorial debut, with a script most recently polished by Frank Darabont. Darabont was also attached to direct but left due to “creative differences.”

“The Huntsman” is currently aiming for release on April 22, 2016. Meanwhile, you can catch Chastain in Guillermo del Toro’s creepy “Crimson Peak” next October.

  • ‘The Huntsman’ Sequel Is Axing Some Dwarves

The HuntsmanThe sequel to “Snow White and the Huntsman” already won’t feature Kristen Stewart’s Snow White. Now, Deadline reports, most of her seven dwarves are getting axed, too. Only two dwarves will be in the “The Huntsman,” though it’s unclear exactly which two.

It is known that Nick Frost (“Cuban Fury”), Toby Jones (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”) and Eddie Marsan (“Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows”) will definitely not be in the movie. Marsan has a scheduling conflict with his work on Showtime’s “Ray Donovan.” And Bob Hoskins died last year, so he won’t be part of the project either.

“The Huntsman” is a prequel that will show the titular character (Chris Hemsworth) and Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron) crossing paths before the events of the first movie. Emily Blunt is on board to play a villain, reportedly a Snow Queen who is Ravenna’s sister.

“The Huntsman” is set to be released April 22, 2016.
