‘Aladdin’ Star Marwan Kenzari Joins Charlize Theron in Action Thriller ‘Old Guard’

    Disney

Marwan Kenzari, who plays Jafar in Disney’s live-action “Aladdin,” has just signed on to “The Old Guard” with Charlize Theron and KiKi Layne.

Gina Prince-Bythewood is directing the action feature, which is based on the comic from author Greg Rucka and artist Leandro Fernandez.  Skydance and Netflix are producing.

“Old Guard” is about a group of soldiers, led by Andromache of Scythia (aka “Andy” (Theron), who have been cursed with immortality and have been working as mercenaries through the ages. They then discover the existence of a new immortal, a black woman serving in the Marines, as a nefarious organization captures their undying actions on camera.

Kenzari will play a man who was once a Moor warrior.

The Dutch-born actor’s recent Hollywood films include the star-studded remake of “Murder on the Orient Express,” Malik in the Tom Cruise flop “The Mummy” and Druses in the “Ben-Hur” remake.

First ‘Addams Family’ Teaser Trailer Is a Ghoulish Good Time

    MGM

Snap, snap — “The Addams Family” is back.

MGM has dropped the first teaser trailer for its upcoming animated take on the classic creepy characters. Charlize Theron and Oscar Isaac voice ghoulish couple Morticia and Gomez, who encourage their kids Wednesday and Pugsley to be as uniquely themselves as possible.

And we can’t forget the delightfully out-there antics of Uncle Fester and Grandma!

The Addamses are planning for a big family function, but run into trouble with neighbor and reality TV host Margaux Needler who is “consumed with a desire for absolute suburban pastel perfection.” What a weirdo.

This is the fourth feature film version of the Addams Family, and the first animated. It will have a lot to live up to in its 1991 predecessor starring Anjelica Huston and Raul Julia.

“The Addams Family” opens in theaters October 11.

With Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen‘s new rom-com “Long Shot” due out next month, Lionsgate has released a new clip.

The two actors play a mismatched pairing, and the clip shows just how much. Her character, Charlotte, is a presidential hopeful, and his, Fred, is a struggling journalist. “I mean, who wants to follow me around the world and hope I have five minutes to be affectionate?” she asks.

The footage also highlights his growing crush on her, which stems all the way back to his childhood. Watch below.

The film is directed by Jonathan Levine, and its cast also includes June Diane Raphael, O’Shea Jackson Jr.Andy Serkis, Ravi Patel, and Alexander Skarsgård.

Another character describes the mismatch to Fred in a creative way: “It’s ‘Pretty Woman,’ but she’s Richard Gere and you’re Julia Roberts.”

    Watch below.

The film also stars June Diane Raphael, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Ravi Patel, Bob Odenkirk, Andy Serkis, Randall Park. Meanwhile, Alexander Skarsgård appears as a fictional Canadian prime minister unafraid to use a bad pickup line. • Roger Ailes Movie With Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman Gets Release Date

Roger Ailes Movie With Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman Gets Release Date

    Universal

The star-studded, still-untitled movie chronicling the downfall of Fox News boss Roger Ailes has a release date.

Lionsgate has slated the Jay Roach-directed film for December 20.

The movie is packed with A-list talent: Charlize Theron as Megyn Kelly; Nicole Kidman as Gretchen Carlson; Margot Robbie as news producer Kayla Pospisil; and John Lithgow as Ailes himself.

Malcolm McDowell, Allison Janney, Kate McKinnon, Mark Duplass also star.

The story follows the women who took on the Fox News mogul and the network’s toxic male culture. Carlson sued Ailes for sexual harassment in 2016 and Kelly came forward with her allegations. Ailes ultimately stepped down as CEO.

The Ailes movie joins a crowded slate around Christmas, which includes “Star Wars: Episode IX” and the adaptation of Broadway’s “Cats.”

  • ‘Long Shot’ Trailer Pairs Seth Rogen With Childhood Crush Charlize Theron

‘Long Shot’ Trailer Pairs Seth Rogen With Childhood Crush Charlize Theron

    Lionsgate

Turns out Charlize Theron isn’t such a “Long Shot” for Seth Rogen.

The trailer for the romantic comedy previews introduces Rogen as Fred Flarksy, an unemployed journalist who runs into his childhood crush/babysitter Charlotte Field (Theron), now the Secretary of State.

As Charlotte prepares to run for president, she hires Fred as  a speechwriter. Unexpected sparks fly, but their around-the-world romance is threatened by Fred’s past and present indiscretions.

The disparity in their looks and levels of success are clear, and the movie doesn’t hold back in acknowledging that. Fred’s friend (O’Shea Jackson Jr.) observes, “It’s ‘Pretty Woman,’ but she’s Richard Gere and you’re Julia Roberts.” Meanwhile, Charlotte’s advisor (June Diane Raphael) likens the pairing to Kate Middleton hooking up with Danny DeVito.

The humor seems to balance between profane and sweet. And while Theron’s character is a world-famous politician, the movie is not as political as it is a firm rom-com.

“Long Shot” opens in theaters May 3.

When Charlotte hires Fred to spice up her campaign speeches, sparks fly. What ignites is what the synopsis describes as a “profane, funny and unexpected love.”

    Watch below.

The romantic comedy also stars O’Shea Jackson Jr., Andy Serkis, June Diane Raphael, Ravi Patel, and Alexander Skarsgård. It’s directed by Jonathan Levine based on a script by Dan Sterling.

  • 2019 Oscars Reveal First Round of Presenters

2019 Oscars Reveal First Round of Presenters

    Warner Bros.

This year’s Oscars will mark the first time in three decades that the ceremony has gone without a host. But the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is making sure that the event will still feature plenty of stars on stage.

Earlier this week, Oscars producer Donna Gigliotti and co-producer and director Glenn Weiss revealed the first round of presenters who will be announcing categories and handing out statuettes at the Academy Awards later this month. That group is:

Awkwafina, Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Tina Fey, Whoopi Goldberg, Brie Larson, Jennifer Lopez, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Amandla Stenberg, Charlize Theron, Tessa Thompson, and Constance Wu.

We have to hand it to producers: That’s a pretty solid list of people. We’re especially excited to see what kind of witty banter Fey, Poehler, and Rudolph deliver. (Perhaps a preview of their upcoming Netflix film, “Wine Country”?)

According to the producers, the show’s aim is to put the focus squarely on the honored films, and the diversity that they represent in the industry at large.

“The Oscar nominees have generated tremendous worldwide attention through their captivating stories, achievements and performances,” Gigliotti and Weiss said in a joint statement. “We want to give the public an opportunity to once again experience the moments that have moved us all. It is a celebration of our universal love of movies.”

The 91st annual Oscars will air on Sunday, February 24 on ABC.
