“Star Trek: Picard” is ready to engage.

CBS All-Access announced the official title of the upcoming series starring Patrick Stewart as his iconic “The Next Generation” captain, Jean-Luc Picard.

The title is simple and straightforward: “Star Trek: Picard.”

At the upfronts, CBS also unveiled the show’s official logo:

Stewart played the wise and inspiring leader on the syndicated TV series from 1987 to 1994, then in four feature films.

Not much is known about the story of the new show, aside from following Picard in the next stage of his life. Showrunner Alex Kurtzman has said it will be “extremely different” from previous series, including its CBS All-Access sibling “Discovery.”

“‘Discovery’ is a bullet. ‘Picard’ is a very contemplative show,” he explained. “It will find a balance between the speed of ‘Discovery’ and the nature of what ‘Next Gen’ was, but I believe it will have its own rhythm.”

Joining Stewart are cast members Alison Pill, Santiago Cabrera, and Michelle Hurd.

“Star Trek: Picard” does not yet have a premiere date.

CBS has a big farewell planned for “The Big Bang Theory.”

The network will air a half-hour retrospective special on the night that the series finale airs, Deadline reports. Called “Unraveling the Mystery: A Big Bang Farewell,” it will be a walk down memory lane with stars Johnny Galecki (Leonard) and Kaley Cuoco (Penny). They’ll discuss their 12 years on the series and give viewers some new behind-the-scenes intel, including sharing memorable moments and leading a set tour.

The end of “The Big Bang Theory” was announced in August, when word came that the show’s 12th season would be its last. It later was reported that star Jim Parsons (Sheldon) had decided to move on; as one of the show’s big three stars alongside Galecki and Cuoco, his planned exit prompted the end.

The final season has been bittersweet for fans, but it has had a lot of high points, of course. For example, “The Big Bang Theory” recently filmed its 276th episode, making it the longest-running multi-camera sitcom in TV history. We expect to celebrate that major milestone and others in the upcoming special.

“Unraveling the Mystery: A Big Bang Farewell” airs Thursday, May 16 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

CBS Considering Making Offer to Acquire Viacom: Report

    CBS

Another merger between media companies could be coming.

CBS is reportedly again considering a merger with Viacom. Sources tell NBC News that CBS board members are having internal conversations about an acquisition after giving a contract extension to president and acting CEO Joseph Ianniello. It would reunite the two companies after the original version of Viacom Inc. was split into today’s Viacom and CBS Corporation at the end of 2005.

There were previously moves in that direction, but they were complicated in May 2018 when CBS, under now ex-chairman and CEO Leslie Moonves, sued its parent company, National Amusements. The lawsuit claimed in part that the merger “was not in the best interests of CBS and its stockholders.” Ultimately, the parties reached a settlement in September 2018, as Deadline reported at the time.

This time, CBS leadership has changed and Viacom considers itself better positioned for the merger, per Variety. Should it happen, the combined company would own assets like Viacom’s Paramount Pictures, MTV, and Nickelodeon, and CBS’s Showtime, CBS Television Studios, and Simon & Schuster. Together, they could potentially be better poised to compete with rivals like Disney, which recently acquired key 21st Century Fox assets.

An NBC News source says not to expect an imminent offer. The companies involved have not commented.

“The Big Bang Theory” cast, crew, and fans may have to say goodbye to the popular show soon, but in the meantime, there is cause for celebration: The comedy series recently took a longstanding record from “Cheers.”

Now in its 12th season, “The Big Bang Theory” has reached production of its 276th episode. That makes it the longest-running multi-camera sitcom in TV history, as the show announced via social media Wednesday. “Cheers” ran for 275 episodes before concluding in 1993.

The “Big Bang Theory” milestone was sweet indeed. The cast posed for a photo with a giant tray of cupcakes that spelled out “276.”

To date, 272 of those 276 episodes have aired; the next new one will air on April 4. Then, after the series finale airs on May 16, there will be 279 episodes in total.

“The Big Bang Theory” airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

It all started with the big bang, and the show will likely end with one, too.

“The Big Bang Theory” is in the midst of its 12th and final season, and the end just keeps getting closer. CBS has revealed the series finale date, and yes, it’s really happening. The sitcom’s hour-long final episode will air on Thursday, May 16, Deadline reports.

News came in August that Season 12 would be the last hurrah for the (mostly) science-loving gang. Jim Parsons (Sheldon) made the decision to move on, and co-creator and executive producer Chuck Lorre had previously decided the show would end if it lost any of its three main stars. The exit of either Johnny Galecki (Leonard) or Kaley Cuoco (Penny) would also have prompted its cancellation.

“The Big Bang Theory” had a good run. The sitcom, which also stars Mayim Bialik, Melissa Rauch, Simon Helberg, and Kunal Nayyar, has been nominated four times for the outstanding comedy series Primetime Emmy Award. Meanwhile, for his role, Parsons has won three Emmys for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series.

“The Big Bang Theory” airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

  • Walton Goggins to Star in CBS Comedy ‘The Unicorn’

Walton Goggins to Star in CBS Comedy ‘The Unicorn’

    HBO

Walton Goggins, who’s been so good in playing bad in “The Shield,” “Justified,” and “The Hateful Eight” has lined up a new comedy for CBS, “The Unicorn.”

He’ll play a recent widower and devoted father to two teenage girls. The character is described as “a big-hearted open-book of a guy” who’s at sea without his wife. When he gets back on the dating scene, he discovers to his shock that he’s a hot commodity.

Too early to expect a crossover with another CBS comedy, “Mom”?

While that sounds fun, we’re sad to that another pilot he filmed for CBS, an adaptation of the Oscar-winning film “LA Confidential,” was scrapped after being deemed “too dark” for the network. Alas, the subscription service CBS All Access did not pick it up either.

Goggins recently showcased his more comedic chops in the HBO comedy “Vice Principals.” And was a hilarious villain in “Ant-Man and the Wasp.”

Hold the Phone: ‘Young Sheldon’ Renewed For Seasons 3 and 4

    CBS

Since “Young Sheldon” is one of the most-watched series on TV, it’s no surprise that CBS just greenlit two more seasons of the “Big Bang Theory” spinoff.

Iain Armitage stars as  10-year old Sheldon Cooper  as he struggles to fit in with his family and classmates in East Texas.

The only show that’s more watched on good old broadcast TV? Mother ship “Big Bang Theory.” The prequel series currently averages 14.6 million viewers per week in the Nielsen Live+7 numbers, according to Variety.

The series finale for Season 2 airs March 7.

The news also comes as “Big Bang” prepares to air its series finale this spring, wrapping up a 12-season run on the network.

“The Coopers are portrayed by an amazing cast, and we are looking forward to having the gifted writing staff mine even more of Sheldon’s hilarious backstory and the warm family dynamic that has made this comedy a favorite with audiences for the past two seasons,” said Thom Sherman, senior executive vice president of programming for CBS Entertainment in a statement.

Also recently renewed on CBS: “Mom,” “God Friended Me,” “FBI,” and “The Neighborhood.” And the 15th and final season of “Criminal Minds.”

‘Criminal Minds’ Renewed for 15th and Final Season on CBS

    CBS

The case is closed on “Criminal Minds.”

The long-running CBS crime drama will end after a 15th and final season, according to TVLine. The final  10 episodes will air during the 2019-2020 TV season.

“It’s really bittersweet, but I’m so, so grateful to CBS for giving us this heads-up,” showrunner Erica Messer told TVLine. “I think one of my biggest fears was always, ‘Oh man, what if we don’t know’ and then they just don’t bring back the show? But they respect this series and the cast and the crew and the fans enough to end this properly.”

“Criminal Minds” has been a solid and steady ratings performer for CBS, though not as the network’s other procedural franchises like “NCIS.” The show has experienced quite a bit of cast upheaval over the years, with original lead Mandy Patinkin departing after Season 3. Thomas Gibson was fired during Season 12 after an on-set altercation. Currently, Joe Mantegna and Adam Rodriguez lead the cast.

Season 15 will feature a time jump, Messer told TVLine, and more serialized storytelling. She teased “a bad guy that we meet toward the end of Season 14, who will be our main focus” for the final episodes.

  • ‘Elementary’ Ending After 7 Seasons on CBS

‘Elementary’ Ending After 7 Seasons on CBS

    CBS

And that’s the end of “Elementary,” my dear Watson.

CBS announced that the upcoming seventh season of the crime procedural is its last.

The series, which debuted in 2012, put a modern spin on the Sherlock Holmes stories. Jonny Lee Miller starred as the grouchy but brilliant sleuth, while Lucy Liu played the gender-flipped Joan Watson. Together, they helped the NYPD solve crimes in New York City.

“Elementary” has been a reliable performer, if not a ratings mega-hit for CBS. The decision to wrap up the show was made when Season 7 was ordered and production is already complete, so fans will get a planned-out ending.

In the Season 6 finale, Sherlock and Joan moved to Baker Street in London. The 13-episode final season will reportedly take them back to New York at some point.

Executive producer Robert Hewitt Wolfe tweeted about the end of the series, thanking his cast and crew:
