  • ‘Avengers 4’ Title to Be Revealed After ‘Captain Marvel’ Teaser, Marvel Boss Says

If you’re sitting by your phone, waiting to hear the official “Avengers 4” title — grab a snack. It’ll be a while.

Marvel has had a title ready for well over a year, but Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige said it was too spoilery to reveal before “Avengers: Infinity War.”

Now that “Infinity War” is nearly three months out … we’ll still have to wait several more months.

Feige is doing press for “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” and he’s being asked about what’s ahead in Brie Larson’s “Captain Marvel” (March 8, 2019) and “Avengers 4” (May 3, 2019).

Feige told ComicBook.com they’re still working on the promos/trailers/marketing for “Captain Marvel.”

“I think there’s still a few months on it. You already know as much as you need to. We’ve got Skrulls, we’ve got the Kree, it takes place in the 90s, you have Sam Jackson with two eyes and Carol Danvers, a unique telling of Carol Danvers origin story. We are about two weeks out from completion of principal photography.”

Collider asked Feige about the “Avengers 4” title, and he tied that to the “Captain Marvel” promotion:

“That’ll be after the Captain Marvel teaser probably, announcing that title. It’ll be towards the end of the year with however we launch that film.”

So we’re looking at a “Captain Marvel”/”Avengers 4” double-header toward the end of the year. Consider it a holiday gift for Marvel fans!

Whatever the title ends up being, it won’t be “Infinity Gauntlet” — despite that rumor. Feige later shot that rumor down cold.

Feige — a font of information, always — added that “‘Ant-Man and The Wasp’ also connects directly to ‘Avengers 4.’ These characters are going to be very important going forward.”

He wants you to buy tickets to that movie, and you should. It’s getting good reviews so far, and it’s the bridge between “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Captain Marvel”/”Avengers 4.”

“Ant-Man 2” opens Friday, July 6. “Captain Marvel” arrives March 8, 2019, two months before “Avengers 4” on May 3.

  • Rumored ‘Avengers 4’ Concept Art Shows New Team in Action

    Spoilers galore!

A new image purporting to be official “Avengers 4” concept art has fans in deep speculation mode. It’s not confirmed by Marvel — and could simply be fan art — but it’s being taken seriously by various comic book fans and outlets, so it’s worth checking out.

Hero X published the art, and sent it to Screen Rant; if it’s truly associated with “Avengers 4” then it’s the first “official” look at anything from the movie. (Those leaked set photos aren’t “official,” but they are very telling.)

Let’s assume for the moment that the concept art is indeed legit. If so, it’s filled with spoilers.

    Here’s a closer look:

The artwork clearly gathers the “Avengers: Infinity War” stars who were not dust-busted by Thanos in “The Snappening.”

We (finally) see Hawkeye and Ant-Man … but not The Wasp. Was she dust-busted, and we’ll find that out after “Ant-Man and the Wasp“?

We see Captain Marvel with the team, even though we have yet to meet her. Brie Larson’s “Captain Marvel” will be released in theaters two months before “Avengers 4.” The end scene of “Infinity War” showed Nick Fury sending her a message, so we know she’ll be key moving forward.

In another interesting note, The Hulk is shown in costume, and may hint to a Professor Hulk storyline for “Avengers 4.”

Also, Black Widow and Captain America seem to have reverted to their pre-Infinity War looks — she with red hair, and he clean-shaven.

Here’s one fan’s list of takeaways:

Yeah, but Hawkeye’s kids may have been vaporized. But don’t worry. We’re pretty sure the vaporized stuff isn’t going to last, especially since the original Avengers are the ones whose contracts are ending after “Avengers 4,” and the next phase of the MCU seems focused on the characters who were vaporized.

So our OGs will get one last hurrah in “Avengers 4.” We already know Cap and Black Widow will have much bigger roles in “Avengers 4” than they did in “Infinity War,” and Chris Hemsworth said “Avengers 4” will shock fans more than “Avengers 3,” but in a completely different way.

“Avengers 4” opens in theaters May 3, 2019. “Captain Marvel” opens March 8th, 2019. “Ant-Man and the Wasp” is next up for the MCU, on July 6, 2018.

  • Annette Bening Joins ‘Captain Marvel’ Cast

Premiere Of Sony Pictures Classics' 'The Seagull' - Speaking SessionAnnette Bening, welcome to the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

The four-time Oscar-nominated actress is joining the cast of “Captain Marvel,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. She’ll star alongside Brie Larson, who plays the titular superhero — Air Force Captain Carol Danvers. THR says Bening’s top-secret role is that of a scientist.

Danvers gains her powers after an accident that exposes her to alien DNA. Perhaps Bening will help her figure out her new biology.

The movie, which is set in the ’90s, brings back familiar faces like Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, and Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser. The cast also includes Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn, and Gemma Chan. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (“Mississippi Grind”) are directing.

Danvers has not been introduced in any of the Marvel movies, though there was a related tease in a post-credits scene after “Avengers: Infinity War.”

Bening most recently starred in 2017’s “Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool” and can currently be seen in the upcoming “The Seagull.”

“Captain Marvel” opens in theaters March 8, 2019.

  • ‘Captain Marvel’ Announces Start of Filming & Reveals More Cast Members

The Marvel train cannot be stopped! “Black Panther” just became the top-grossing superhero movie in U.S. history, as “Avengers: Infinity War” breaks pre-sale records ahead of its April release.

And now Marvel Studios has announced the start of principal photography for Brie Larson‘s “Captain Marvel” movie.

“Captain Marvel,” opening March 8 of 2019, is basing production in the greater Los Angeles area. Filming is also planned in Fresno, CA, and locations in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, Louisiana.

Here’s more on the film’s plot:

“Based on the Marvel comic character first appearing in 1968, the story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, ‘Captain Marvel’ is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

The photo above shows Brie Larson with Brigadier General Jeannie Leavitt, 57th Wing Commander, on a recent trip to Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada to do research for the character.

In addition to Larson, the film also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.

Some of those names were already announced for “Captain Marvel,” but others were pleasant surprises to fans:

Here are the release dates for the upcoming MCU films (so far):

    • “Avengers: Infinity War”: April 27, 2018
    • “Ant-Man and the Wasp”: July 6, 2018
    • “Captain Marvel”: March 8, 2019
    • “Avengers 4”: May 3, 2019
    • “Spider-Man: Homecoming” sequel – July 5, 2019
    • “Guardians of the Galaxy Vo. 3” – 2020

  • ‘Captain Marvel’ Will Be an ‘Action-Comedy’ Following a ‘Sassy, Funny Superhero’

Sounds great … and also like almost every other Marvel movie?

“Captain Marvel” screenwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet isn’t reinventing the wheel with Brie Larson‘s standalone movie. Instead, she’s staying pretty loyal to the Marvel Comics source material.

“Carol Danvers is one of the funniest comic book characters,” Robertson-Dworet told Entertainment Weekly. “She’s so sassy, she’s such a smartass, she won’t take sh*t from anyone, and the comic books do an amazing job at capturing that voice, and it was important that the entire Captain Marvel creative team [kept to that].”

Robertson-Dworet compared “Captain Marvel” to an early draft she wrote for Alicia Vikander’s Lara Croft in “Tomb Raider.”

“‘Captain Marvel’ has a very funny voice, and it’s more of an action-comedy, more like what we were talking about doing in the first draft I wrote for ‘Tomb Raider’…. [but] that tone survived in Captain Marvel. I love funny female characters, so as ‘Tomb Raider’ got more serious, I got even more committed to the idea of ‘Captain Marvel’ being hilarious. […] I’m hoping that sassy, funny superhero [in the film] is something people haven’t seen before, and that they’re going to be excited to see in Carol Danvers.”

The word “sassy” is often associated with women, or we’d say Iron Man is the original sassy Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero. Does Jessica Jones qualify?

Comparisons may defeat the purpose, but comparisons will inevitably be made. Robertson-Dworet said they started writing after DC’s “Wonder Woman” came out and were conscious about doing something different.

“So we wanted to carve our own path and make sure we weren’t retreading the same territory, and showing all facets of what women are capable of.”

Sounds good. There’s more than one way to be a male superhero, so there’s more than one way to be a female superhero. But if you are a male/female superhero in the MCU, you are more likely to joke around than a male/female superhero in the DCEU.

“Captain Marvel” is scheduled for release on March 8, 2019. But you never know. Marvel is in a shifty mood lately, so who knows if they’ll move it.

  • Sorry, But That’s Not Captain Marvel in the New ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Trailer

It did look like her at a quick glance, but…

Marvel shared another “Avengers: Infinity War” trailer during the 2018 Super Bowl, and a brief moment ended up analyzed repeatedly by the fandom.

In the trailer, when Captain America and Black Widow are walking, with Vision behind Black Widow, it looked like maybe Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) was walking behind Cap:

However, upon closer inspection, it looks like the person behind Cap is Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). What fans were seeing was her red hair.

That does make sense, considering the close relationship between Scarlet Witch and Vision.

Brie Larson is now filming “Captain Marvel” for release March 8th, 2019. She got fans talking about her green costume, as seen on set, and now fans are scouring trailers for any shots of her before her standalone movie. Keep searching!

  • ‘Captain Marvel’ Set Photo Has Fans Talking About Brie Larson’s Green Costume

Why green? We’ll give you Kree guesses.

“Captain Marvel” is now in pre-production, with star Brie Larson busy on set as Carol Danvers. She recently shared a photo of her character “Learning how to fly,” but the latest photos are not so “official.”

The set photos show Carol Danvers in a green suit, which confused some fans who are used to seeing her in red and gold:

Yes. Marvel fans can dip into the character’s history to try and glean why she’s green. It’s probably related to the alien species the Kree.

Here’s some history from ScreenRant, referencing the Marvel character Mar-Vell, who’ll be played on screen by Jude Law:

“When the Kree warrior Mar-Vell originally came to Earth, he donned a green and white suit and used the name Captain Marvel. Eventually, he upgraded to the more familiar red and blue costume with the gold star which would serve as inspiration for Carol when she gained similar abilities.

Over time, Carol adopted her black and gold suit that she wore for most of her time as Ms. Marvel, but she returned to a costume inspired by Mar-Vell when she took his mantle as he’d been dead for years. […]

There are a couple of reasons why Carol might be in this green costume. The simplest explanation is that she snags it from a Kree soldier after gaining her powers. It’s hard to guess what Marvel will change or condense when it comes to Captain Marvel’s origin, but we do know the Kree-Skrull War will be a big part of the movie. As such, there’s a chance Carol will gain her powers during the conflict and then grab a uniform from a fallen Kree warrior as she heads into battle. The other big possibility is that we’re seeing Mar-Vell’s original suit which gets handed down to Carol.”

Here are more reactions, referencing the Kree or just keeping a more positive open mind:

Marvel has yet to let us down, and we doubt they’ll start here. “Captain Marvel” is scheduled for release March 8, 2019.

  • ‘Captain Marvel’ Villain May Be Played by the Guy Who Plays Every Villain Nowadays

You didn’t quite hate Ben Mendelsohn enough after “Rogue One,” so he’s going to give it another go in “Captain Marvel.”

Mendelsohn is a phenomenal actor, but his range is being slightly limited these days to Villain In Every Blockbuster. You just saw him as villainous Orson Krennic in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” and you’ll soon see him as villainous Nolan Sorrento in Steven Spielberg’s “Ready Player One,” and as the villainous Sheriff of Nottingham in “Robin Hood.”

And now, Variety reports, Mendelsohn is in talks to play the villain in Brie Larson‘s “Captain Marvel.”

BRITAIN-ENTERTAINMENT-FILM-STARWARSDirectors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck directed Mendelsohn (and Ryan Reynolds!) in “Mississippi Grind,” and they apparently want him back for “Captain Marvel.” Variety had no details on his role, but the “Bloodline” star would likely play the leader of the extraterrestrial shapeshifters called The Skrulls.

“Captain Marvel” will take place in the early 1990s, an era before the modern Avengers, including the first “Iron Man.” Samuel L. Jackson will return as Nick Fury.

“Captain Marvel” opens March 8, 2019, which is just two months before the Marvel Cinematic Universe gives us “Avengers 4.” We can expect some connections.

  • ‘Avengers 4’: Brie Larson Arrives for Filming … With Clean-Shaven Chris Evans?

HFPA & InStyle Annual Celebration Of 2017 Toronto International Film Festival - ArrivalsAt least one Marvel captain has arrived in Atlanta to film “Avengers 4.”

This is especially cool since it should mark Brie Larson‘s first week playing the Carol Danvers of “Captain Marvel.” Her standalone movie comes out two months before “Avengers 4,” but it hasn’t started filming yet.

Atlanta Filming referenced Brie arriving on Sunday night, and they — and JustJared — also mentioned Chris Evans, aka Captain America.

JustJared posted a few photos, clearly showing Brie, but it’s less clear if that is really Chris Evans with her. Many fans say yes, but others say no.

He is clean-shaven — which has upset some fans who loved Cap’s “Avengers: Infinity War” beard — but if that’s not Evans then it doesn’t matter. Honestly, no one seems to care about anything other than whether Evans is now shaven or unshaven.

Anyway, as ScreenRant noted, if Brie Larson is shooting some Captain Marvel scenes this week for “Avengers 4,” it may not be too long before we get to see her in costume, beyond concept footage.

“Captain Marvel” is scheduled for release on March 8, 2019, two months before “Avengers 4” opens on May 3, 2019. “Captain Marvel” will reportedly start filming in February 2018.

  • Samuel L. Jackson Isn’t in ‘Infinity War,’ ‘Avengers 4,’ or ‘Black Panther’ & He Sounds Upset

Samuel L. Jackson is feeling the fury (or at least disappointment) of Nick Fury after his character has been sidelined from multiple Marvel movies.

Fury helped launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it with his post-credits scene in “Iron Man.” He was last seen briefly in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” after being declared “officially dead” in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”

It was recently confirmed that Jackson will co-star with Brie Larson in “Captain Marvel,” which is set in the 1990s, before the first “Iron Man.” But when will be able to see what’s in Fury’s future?

In an interview with Yahoo UK, taped before the “Captain Marvel” confirmation, Jackson revealed his confusion about his place in the MCU.

“I’ve been rumored to be in several different Marvel movies that I haven’t shown up in. I wasn’t in the ‘superhero argument’ movie [‘Captain America: Civil War’], I’m not in ‘Avengers 3 and 4’. They’re shooting them now, and they haven’t called me yet. They wouldn’t let me go to ‘Black Panther’-ville, so it’s kinda like ‘How you gonna make a black Marvel movie and not let Nick Fury show up in it?!’”

Can we at least agree that “Superhero Argument Movie” should be the new official title of “Civil War”?

Maybe Marvel will see that Jackson is ready to be tagged in and find a role for him in “Avengers 4,” which is now filming. Or maybe it doesn’t make sense for his character. Considering everyone under the sun was cast for “Infinity War,” it is surprising to hear he won’t be in it. They already finished filming that one, so if no one called Jackson after this particular interview, he’s out.

“Captain Marvel” is scheduled to open March 8, 2019.
